wow, I've been out shopping, got home, got the perishables put away and no one has been here yet. Guess everyone is busy doing yard work or something more interesting. Shopping was exhausting and there were two majoy mistakes that were made that I had to take care of.
Well I got 20 inches of the scarf done. Only about 50 to go. this pattern calls for 78 inches. As Ginny said, the trend if "super scarves" ...longer and wider. This one is not wider though. It's a nice width and I'm not sure yet what length I'll make it but probably 72 since Ginny said that's a good length for her so I think it will be a good length for anyone I make one for because the tallest person would be my ddil who is probably about 5'9 maybe.
Before we went out dh was out mowing again this time with the walk behind mower...the mowing I was going to do tomorrow. He also watered all the plants so since he didn't get much sleep he'll probably nap most of the rest of the day so I may just sit here and crochet. I'll work on the scarf and maybe some on weaving ends in on things I've already made but didn't get end weaved (woven) which would include at least 30 pairs of the fingerless gloves. I've only been talking about doing that now for about three weeks or more!!!!!
I do hope that Meg is enjoying herself at the beach house and that the rest of you are having a great day.I'm going to go put away the rest of the groceries.See you later

Good evening!
Well sure enough its hot here and we are in for some hot weather.
Ruth glad you got the shopping done- bet we are all alike in that the shopping is not so bad, but getting everything put away is a pain. Now weaving in the ends of a crochet project is noones favorite job- its rather like putting the binding on a quilt- a much dreaded task. 30 pairs!!! Wow, what an accomplishment- but I am sure you are dreading finishing off all those gloves. Start slowly- one glove at a time. It will go more quickly than you think. I appreciate the heads up on the scarf pattern and will have to remember your comments when I get to make the scarf.
CJ- indeed that is such a horrible thing- the shooting at the newspaper. I thought that the editorial page was a fitting commentary on the situation, just commemorating those 5 who senselessly lost their lives. There seems to be so much loss of life these days- and people who really had nothing to do with the monster who took their lives- they just, unfortunately were there at the time he acted out. I blame so much of this on our politically correct society- in which kids are no longer taught to try hard, but that everyone gets a trophy for participating. People just do not know how to deal with and accept loss or trials anymore. So they become frustrated and act out- instead of turning to a constructive means of expressing themselve. Sorry, I did not mean to launch into my little rant on you. What color is your peony? THey do transplant well and are pretty sturdy plants. Don’t they smell amazing when they bloom? Dont sweat it......I am a lazy crochetter too!! One of my favorite afghans is a ripple I made several years ago, the star of which was an awesome variegated yarn. Hope your cable is back soon- and that you are not missing GBBS!!!
So- went for my walk this am, then we went over to DD’s to help with the kids. Dh and Dd got the cement poured around the legs of the swing set- so that it will not move when a bunch of kids are on it. Dd is planning a joint birthday party for DGD and DGS soon. Got a little bit of housework done- some laundry too. I hung out the laundry to save electricity- which I am burning up like crazy with airconditioners on. Oh well. Its going to be very hot and yes my weather will be hotter here than CJ’s will be several hundred miles south.
Hope that we stay cool tomorrow and for the next few days....think I will be inside and hopefully working on my pillow cases. Ginny
Meg, hope you are having a great time!

CJ, I guess I forgot to look back on page 2 because I didn't see your post there till now. Yes I'm a lazy crocheter too. that's the real reason I haven't tried the gingham or plaid yet. Making that flowers in a row blanket was a real trial so I do hope that dgd really likes it. DDil said that dgd loved it from what I remember. That's why I have my internet and tv with different companies. If one goes down the other is still working
It was very comfortable here today. Warmer than forecast but still ok. Now cold air is moving in and high for tomorrow is forecast to be according to one channel only 58 and other channel says 60's so we'll see. so come on over ladies. It will be cool for two days then back to 90's but as I've said, at least we have low humidity. Yesterday on 5pm news the said the humidity was 7, yes seven, percent and temp was 97 they said and 100 even on my thermometer.
I was going to take a nap this afternoon but after lying there for an hour just resting I got up and came up and worked on the scarf.
Ginny, since the pattern starts with only two rows and the rest is all made by repeating row 2 it's actually very easy. After doing row 2 a couple times thus getting used to the directions, the rest is all just mindless crocheting. The yarn I'm working with right now...the color is called onyx which is a gray and black so I'm not sure it looks like a woman's scarf. I guess either a man or woman could use it. I still have to find the other color of this yarn that I bought at the same time then I'll make this same scarf with it and decide which I want to send to my dgd who will be 17 in Sept. The other I think I'll keep for myself. I was never one to use a scarf but I'm changing my mind about them esp since I have so much nice yarn I can make them with.
Have a good evening all and I'll see you tomorrow.
CJ, again, sorry I missed your post earlier. I hope your cable is up soon so you can watch some favorite shows

Good morning!
THanks for the update on the crochet pattern, Ruth. It sounds like something I can handle as long as I can get those first 3 rows down. Yes I remember when you made that flowers in a row afghan and saw how many color changes were in that. It sure took a lot of patience on your part to make that, having to change colors so frequently. I thiink most of us just like to run it and gun it- starting with one color and just crochetting for a long time. I have never heard of such wide fluctuations in temperature before- this seems to be normal for your area. I am sure you get used to it- as a matter of fact its pretty neat.
Missing posts on this site is pretty easy to do....I did just figure out that my reply (while still being written and in an unsubmitted form) will carry to the previous page when I go back to previous posts. Nice for me....and it makes it easier for all of us.
Supposed to be hot here today. Upper 90’s.
Have a great day Ginny

SOMETIMES working with more than one color is easy...only if you are making something where there is an inside that won't show when the item is being worn such as a hat. you can, when you have rows of color changes that are close or a design in another color in the middle of something, just leave the second or even third color at the end of the row crochet around that strand of yarn and pick it up when you get back there. It brings the second color up to the next row and works well creating kind of a seam inside with that color contained. I used to do that all the time with hats and it worked really well. When making something in a different color in the middle of an item even when it's a flat item like a blanket you can just leave the second color there and when you get back to that area pick it up and carry the first color along so that it doesn't show on the front. In flat things that are going to have an edging you can just carry the colors up the side and they will be covered by the edging. Sometimes though you just have a zillion ends to weave in. Just depends on what you're making and the pattern. On the flowers in a row pattern you couldn't really carry all the yarns with you because it made it too bulky on the side...believe me I tried it. I think we all want to do things in the easiest way possible if we can have what we're making turn out looking good.
Ginny, I know you are in the hottest area of anyone here so stay cool. It's certainly very cool here. I'm not sure what the temp is right now but it's definitely cool.
I worked on the scarf last night and also worked on rearranging my craft cave. Moved all the fabric bins to one corner...sure have a stack. I still have more to do to get everything organized the way I would like it to be.
Have a great day all and, as Ginny said yesterday, stay hydrated.

Hello Crafters There was a video on that website and the lady showed how she changed colors and I could see that it probably isn't that difficult. I'm still lazy about crafting though Hope everyone is staying cool. It's in the 90s here and feels like it's over 100. I'm just staying in to stay cool. My cable did finally come back on later yesterday, but I'd missed the shows I wanted to watch. I was able to see the Great British Baking Show last night and enjoyed that. Take care everyone!

CJ, I'm sorry that you missed the ones you really wanted to watch. I'm glad to hear that you're staying in out of the hot and humid weather though
I have 50 inches or more of the scarf done now. Only 22 more inches to go...or thereabouts. I'm going to make yet another list of the projects that are next in line. I saw the cutest scarves called candy cane. They're crocheted on a diagonal in red and white. I'm thinking of making those for the grandchildren for Christmas season.

Good evening!
CJ- was wondering if you were going to be able to catch your GBBS- and am really happy that you did get to see that episode. So happy that your cable was restored and now you can watch what you wantl. In this heat we all need good coping strategies, and sometimes watching a good TV show works. I appreciate the heads up on the changing color video. Will have to check it out if I ever need to do that again. The next few projects I make with a crochet hook will be single color items, no need to add another color. Stay cool. The temps I see for you in the next 3 days are high also- appears as though both of us get a break on Wednesday. Make sure you drink water in addition to your tea....
Ruth, well its a lovely feeling of accomplishment to get your crafting supplies straightened out and better organized. It really helps you see what you have and what you do not need to buy just yet. NIce way to get ready for winter and Christmas projects too!! Think those candy cane scarves sound awfully cute!!!! The scarf is almost done too- with almost 22 inches left. Are you happy with the pattern and how it turns out. Does the picture do it justice?
Well, I am working on the last tiny butterfly on the pillow case, then that one will be done. Not sure what to work on next.....we will be travelling at the end of the month, so having a nice project for the car would be good. Maybe winter hats for the kids or the scarf. Oh, just remembered, I have to make a baby afghan for my niece. Sounds like a trip to Joanns for more yarn.

Ginny, congrats on getting that pillow case done. I bet it's beautiful. Butterflies in those type things are so pretty.Yes I think hats are a good small project to take with you on trips. That or the scarf would both be good projects for that. and yes, even though I have a lot more to do in that room things are looking better. At least I mostly have similar yarns together.Yes that will be a real trial having to go to Joanne's to get the yarn for your neice's baby. I do think a baby blanket is another good thing to take on a trip although it is larger. But if you're in a car it doesn't matter too much I don't think. What color are you going to make? And are you going to make this one crib size also?
Back in 2006 when we flew back to NY I took a baby blanket along to work on on the plane and while there but I didn't keep my tension right and the whole thing was a waste of time. I was using the diagonal blanket pattern that Meg uses and since I had not knitted in a long time I forgot about holding tension and it really looked bad because in that pattern nothing is hidden by a stitch pattern if you know what I mean...it's all flat (stockinette stitch)and you have to have even tension for it to look right. Now I could do it because I realized what I was doing wrong however since I don't really enjoy knitting too much I'll probably just stick to crochet except for with some nubby yarn and the homespun I have. It's just way to hard to crochet with it
Well I finished the scarf. The pattern says 320 yards are needed. Well I used the whole skein which is the 320 yards and it ended up being just 72 inches which is what I planned anyway but I don't see how she got 78 inches. I have about enough yarn left to do another half row maybe, certainly not enough to make six more inches of length. Each of my rows is an inch.
Just saw on the weather channel that next Saturday it will be 99 degrees.

Oh and Ginny, I forgot to say that the scarf looks so beautiful when it's done. Can't say for sure if the picture does it justice or not but I do know I love it. Thank you so much for sharing that pattern with us!!!

Good morning! Well, I am not totally done with the pillowcase, need about 15 minutes for that last tiny butterfly. Its a very colorful pattern. The last pillowcases I embroidered (probably 20 years ago) was a very pretty pattern in a single color. I selected that pattern cause my kids were young and I knew that I would not have to change DMC colors. How lazy is that!!!! Anyway, I am pretty happy with how this came out. Now have to figure if I start the second one or go on to something else. For my nieces baby, I am considering seeing what the gender is, But that antique white worked up so prettily- and its good for either sex. I will make a crib size afghan. They no longer recommend putting blankets on babies for sleeping, so I would imagine it could be used in a stroller, or as my DD did- on the baby swing (inside). She would put DGD in the baby swing and have her swinging in the kitchen- and so could see if DGD was in any stress or trouble. Ruth, so sorry that you are in for some very hot weather in a week. Unfortunately, those systems usually travel east, and I will probably get those temps also. At least for now you have somewhat comfortable weather. Just checked and you too have a hot week. Stay in by the AC and stay cool. Hope DH will do the same. The scarf sounds really pretty and it sure worked up quickly for you!! How cool is that, one skein of yarn did the trick- no leftovers!!!! (Best project ever I would think- I hate to throw away leftover yarn). 72 inches is a perfect lenght allowing for warmth and a fashionable drape. Indeed Homespun is a monster to work with and I ended up donating most of mine to Big brothers Big sisters. Well its gonna be hot today and tomorrow. Think of all of us (with the exception of Meg) my region gets the dubious honor of being the hottest today. Is it September yet? Going to church in a little bit, then running one errand on the way home. Stay cool and hydrated. And I hope that Meg has had a really nice time while at the beach. Ginny

Hello Crafters I hate to wish time away, but I'm so happy May and June are over and can't wait for July and August to be done too. I can't stand the hot weather. ginny - that mug rug is cute. I'm glad your embroidery project is coming along. ruth - I'm glad you have your scarf almost done. The board is very slow for me when I'm typing today, so I'll just say have a great day!

I don't really like it real hot but I do love spring and summer. Well Ginny, you will have that pillowcase done any minute now and on to other things. yes the antique white is really nice. It's a beautiful color and so nice and soft. I LOVE the mug rug. I'm definitely going to have to try that. It's something like the pot holder the shop owner showed us how to do in the quilting class the day she subbed for the no so good instructor. I've been meaning to make more of those but haven't gotten to it yet. And, gee, it's only been 14 years Did a tiny bit of yard work today and will do a tiny bit more in a couple minutes Yes that scarf goes fast. Takes no time at all since it's so repetitive. Row 2 over and over can get a little boring but at least it's done in no time. The other yarn I have for one is the color they mention in the pattern so I'm starting one with it soon but debating on whether or not I want to make it right away or start something else just for variety. I guess I could start two things and go back and forth but I mostly like to concentrate on one pattern at a time so my fingers don't play they own way and use Pattern#1 stitches in pattern #2. Or maybe get to that weaving in the ends on those fingerless so I can stop talking about it.

Hard to believe that tomorrow is Monday.
CJ- I am totally with you....hot summer weather is no fun. Do what you can to feel as comfortable as possible. Lets hope that this heat wave passes quickly. 80 degrees is tolerable.....its the 90’s that are awful to bear.
Ruth, think for me the repetetive nature of the scarf would be fine. Because the yarn is variegated, that provides a nice diversion for the eye. Glad you liked the mug rug pattern...Sure looks easy enough for me to do!! Hope you give it a try.
Sleep well all G
