Hello Crafters Ruth - I hope you do enjoy the air conditioner, it sounds really hot there. I'm not looking forward to the heat we're going to have this weekend. Do you have any problems from the wildfires out in the west? I hope not. Ginny - I'm glad you had an enjoyable evening with a fire last night. It is frustrating when neighbors cause us to not enjoy time in our own yards. I pulled out some fabric today since I want to make a small quilt top using this pattern for the Gingham Quilt block: mypatchwork.wordpress.com/category/quilting-beginner-series/I'm going to do it in those same colors too - I love purple. I pressed the fabric, as well as another small piece of fabric I'm going to use to put a border on a small embroidered block that I bought at one of the quilt shows. It's a little dog with a ball and has a very vintage 1930s look, so the fabric I'm putting on the border is a red, with blue dogs, in a 1930s fabric. I also cleared away a few things on the table again, just so it doesn't get out of control. Take care everyone!

Cj, that's a very pretty quilt block and the one with the dog sounds wonderful too. I scrolled down on that page and saw the hourglass block for beginnners. When you just take a quick glance it looks complicated but when you realize it's just a bunch of squares put together you reali
ze that you can actually do that...well that I could do it. I almost said I wish I had more time but the reality is that I have nothing but time but I don't put it to good use.
I did look at a yarn sale at Hobby Lobby site just now and restrained myself from buying
Just got inside from a little gardening. I wasn't going to go out but noticed the tomato plants needed water so I watered all my plants and flowers and did pick up some of the weeds. I've got a bit more to pick up but that will wait.
CJ, I hope you don't have to go out in the heat. Stay inside and enjoy your a/c
Oh and I was amazed last week to see my zucchini plants had blossoms already. They're still pretty small but this week have even more blossoms. So we'll see if any actual fruit results. I'm not holding my breath. And two of the tomato plants have blossoms.
There still aren't any silver dollar plants. I planted some dianthus plants behing where I put the seeds and they're blossoming but no dollars have popped thru. Of course the dianthus wasn't seeds it was poor bedraggeld plants that walmart had marked down. I rescused them.

HI GIRLS, yesterday was a sit and sew at a different place since our quilt hop is not having it for the summer.only 10 of us and we had alot of fun.
I worked on the fabric boxes and my machine was giving me trouble. kept geting a rats nest. did that saturday at sew and sew.
cleaned it out both times.changed needles, thread and rewound the bobbins. finally last night got it working right.
probably more my error then the machine.
last night was quilt guild.we had along program on crazy quilts. interesting history on that.ellie talked so long we did not have time to do our activity.
she gave us a wool kit to make a needle holder using the crazy quilt stitches.
we voted on not having a quilt show next year.
ginny enoy your retirement.take a couple of weeks of from doing anything major and
just enjoy yourself sleep in.spend the morning in your pj's as long as you want. phyl.

Phyl, I would imagine that quilt shows are a boatload of work- and very time consuming to organize and pull off. Sounds as though your program on crazy quilts was a lot of fun....perhaps your activity can be rescheduled for a day in winter when you are looking for something to do. Really glad you figured out the glitch in your machine- we have all had days like that and its SO very frustrating. half the time I do not even know what the problem was. So glad you figured it all out.
CJ- the purple gingham quilt sounds so very feminine and pretty!! Congrats on clearing out stuff on the table too- which will make things much more organized when you do work. Think the purple color scheme will be lovely to work on - especailly in the heat- the purple will remind you of spring and not hot summer weather.
Ruth, so sorry that a mosquito somehow found you and bit you a few times. Indeed its one of the problems with summer and you have had a lot of rain giving the bugs lots of water to grow in. Think 70 inches will be perfect for the scarf- unless the wearer was super tall or long waisted. I hope that you get some zucchini!! I know you really have hoped to grow them- and had little luck. They seem to like hot summer weather...Hang tight with those silver dollar plants. I keep hoping that they will eventually sprout, perhaps even in the late summer or fall. And while I have not had plants that wintered, those that ended the season large seem to come back large in the spring . Stay cool when the hot weather sets in....so glad you have an airconditioner.
More gardening done today. I tried to save some of the pachysandra I removed for my friend, but I got tired gardening today. Its way too rough on my knees and I had to take tylenol this evening. So glad that the worst of this is over. Tomorrow I hope to pick up 4 small shrubs to put where I removed the pachysandra two of them I will be able to plant immediately. got a little bit of work done on the pillow case. One small butterfly to embroider and its done. And I did a lot of cooking today- tried to get ahead of the heat.
Hope everyone had a great day. Ginny

Phyl, yes while the history of crazy quilts sounds interesting, if I'd been there I'd have wanted to get to an activity also. I'm glad to hear that she gave you a kit to work on with the wool. I'm glad too that you were able to find a place to sit and sew and that you were able to correct the problem on your machine. I'm just not good with anything like that anymore. I used to be able to fix things at work but sewing machines are one of the things I have problems with. I even took one to a repairman and even though I told him it was very old and not worth much so I didn't want to spend much on it, what he did was just to clean it and give me a new needles which was a real scam...$16 for a needle? And the whole thing cost me over $70...far more than the machine probably was worth and the worst part is it didn't work any better after that. Ginny, it sounds like you worked your fingers off out there in the yard. Yes the knees do take a beating when you're trying to do some of the things in the yard. I'm glad you got to rest and do some embroidery. I don't know what the bushes are you said you dug up but apparently you don't like them so I'm glad you're getting something you actually like to put in that spot. Dh was just talking about going out and cutting the grass he couldn't get to with the riding mower. I told him to wait and I'll do it Saturday when it's cool. His back still hurts from the work he did yesterday. Even though he used the riding mower just the josting of his back riding on it made it hurt more than it usually does anyway. And it will be good exercise for me although there isn't juch that needs done with the walk behind mower

Yes, a walking mower is good excercise, just do not over do it and drink plenty of water.
I removed a ground cover that was taking over the world. It will be replaced with mulch and some small shrubs

That's what I pulled the other day...the whole ground on one side of my house and a patch along the while depth of the house and out about a foot so there was a lot of it...it was kind of like a vine type thing..and there were grasses and other weeds too but I don't know what that vine type stuff was. There's still more of it that I haven't got to yet. And thanks, yes I got a thing in email today from Silver Sneakers (which I don't belong to) that talked about preventing heat induced illness so I've been upping my water.

Silver sneakers includes a free gym membership to selected gyms....its a great program - at least the way I see it. Dh is a member, but has never used the free gym member ship and its only a short drive from our home. (He does always complain about being out of shape, however), Oh well. Ruth, drink your water. Its important.
Stay cool everyone...

The free Silver Sneakers is free thru some Medicare supplements or advantage plans but is not available here. For two years I had a plan that included it so I went several times but they did away with that and there's none available in this state that cover gym membership anymore. I probably would be like your dh and never go anymore anyway though
Today is the VERY hot day so I'll be sitting inside. Maybe I'll organize my desk. It's right in the path of the cool air from the a/c.
I did get the scarf done and even started the weaving in. Gotta finish that today. The pattern calls for fringe but I'm not going to use fringe. Then I'll start on the scarf made with the pattern that Ginny mentioned and the beautiful yarn from Michaels

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today All of your yard work sounds tiring to me, but I've never had a green thumb. I do enjoy looking at a pretty yard though. The extent of my gardening is pouring some water on my Peony plant this morning, since the leaves were drooping. I have it in a large pot and it's several years old so I try to keep it living. I also have two wild sunflowers growing in my yard, and I put water on those. I guess that the sunflower seeds I throw out for the board took hold in the ground. I always find things like this so fascinating, so I'm enjoying watching them grow. That website where the gingham quilt was one does have a lot of really neat tutorial to make some easy quilts. We are all so fortunate to have the Internet with so many free patterns for crafting. It's warm here today, around 90 and humid. But the real heat is supposed to come in the next few days. I'm hoping to just stay home and keep the house as cool as possible. Take care everyone!

PHyl, that's fantastic news!!! Platlets are in the normal range now. I'm praying a prayer of thanks
CJ, I see there's been a shooting in your state. It's sad that people do these things but not unexpected. Some people just seem to be filled with evil.
I'm going to go look up flannel baby quilts. I have one flannel baby quilt partially made but it's made in a different way than most quilts.. In a way It's kind of like a quilt as you go but not really.

Good evening.
Phyl that is awesome news that your platelets are now in the normal range!! Its great that your medication is working, As Ruth said, an answer to prayer..... glad you were able to make good progress on your fabric boxes. I know you were so frustrated by them the other day.
CJ- Have you ever considered putting that peony in the ground? I know we used to see them all the time in NC-so if they grow there and here well I am sure you can get them to grow well also. Peonies are pretty much maintenance free plants once established. My friend is vacationing in Assateague (sp) this week- she says its nice and green there, your general area has gotten plenty of rain. Hope you can stay comfortable in this heat. Its supposed to be with us for almost 10 days. Yuck.
Ruth- you too....stay cool! Let me know how that pattern is, I figure I will get to it sooner or later. Hope you got your desk cleaned up. Sounds like a good job for a hot day!!
Ended up doing a fair amount of cooking and cleaning- both of which I will probably not want to do when its so hot. Hard to believe its supposed to be 100 on Sunday. And humid. THe humidity has already started to creep up. I am trying to pretend its not too hot- I am sitting on the deck with a pretty scented candle going. But its humid....I do long for fall weather.

I don't mind the cool weather but I'm not looking forward to long cold winter. I'd really like to have 70's all year round
Well no I didn't get to my desk. I've really wasted time today and I feel like tomorrow will be a lost day because of shopping. I did start the scarf and it's a little confusing on the second row. I had a hard time with the first row too but only because I was looking at the pattern on my laptop and wasn't focusing on it well. I finally wrote it out (no printer) and once I did that I realized the mistake I had made.....THREE TIMES!! That is I started it over three times before I finally came to my senses. I do have to say that this yarn is really nice. I have another pack of three in the color they mention in the pattern but...well you probably can guess... I can't seem to find it right now.Anyway, trust the pattern and in row 2 where it says sc in the chain 3 space but it seems like you should be making a chain ignore that thought and follow the pattern. Probably no one else has these thoughts but me. I always think I know better, and sometimes I do find mistakes, but mostly just following the pattern is the best choice
CJ, I meant to mention the other day that there are now a lot of gingham crochet patterns. I haven't tried one yet but gingham and plaid seem to be the newest trend in crocheting.
Sitting outside with a scented candle sounds relaxing and enjoyable. The mosquitoes would get me though. Is there a fragrance besides citronella that will keep them away. I wish I had a screened porch like I did in Arkansas althuogh I liked sitting on the deck more than sitting even in the screened porch.

Hello Crafters Phyl - I'm happy to hear that your platelets are coming down. Hope you make some progress on the boxes this weekend and get to the baby quilt too. Ruth - I would love the 70s most of the time too. I do like a day in the 50s or 60s, with just a bit of chill though. Fall is my favorite season. Hope you get your shopping done today. Thank you for mentioning the shooting in my state's capital, an area I go to often throughout the year. It's just so sad that people are just at work, doing their jobs, and living there lives and then it's taken from them Thanks for the information on the crocheted gingham projects. I did a search of them and found some really nice patterns on this website: daisyfarmcrafts.com/8-free-crochet-gingham-blanket-patterns/I'm a lazy crocheter and I don't like to change colors of yarn, that's why I buy a lot of variegated yarns Ginny - It looks like your weather will be hotter than mine this weekend, it's really a crazy weather pattern! Stay cool. I like having the Peony in a container because if I do ever get out of this house I can take it with me. And I can move the container around if I want to so it's out of the way of the guys that mow my lawn. It's really hot here today already, in the 90s. I have the blinds and curtains covering the windows and my portable AC and fans on. I'm not working on any projects right now, just doing some reading. The cable TV in my area is down just when there were several shows I wanted to watch today Take care everyone!
