I looked at the Joann's site. What a great price on the POund of Love! I have a lot of it though so will pass for this time. I think antique white is a great choice because, first of all it's a great look. Looks more heirloom that way plus it can be used for the next baby also no matter the gender.
Yes if I don't use the plastic dino's I'd have to crochet the dinos for in the eggs. I have a couple patterns for the small ones but not enough I don't think and don't want to have to pay for the pattern for the set. My dinos are bigger than the "shooter guys". (my grandson was so adorable when he was little. He's 27 now)
Well I'm glad you got to see a movie and also had your walk. Yes as time goes by you'll get more used to the fact that you actually are retired now. It's nice you have travel plans. We did a big of travelling when we first retired.
The song went like this
Enjoy yourself, it's later than you think Enjoy yourself while you're still in the pink The years go by as quickly as you wink Enjoy yourself, enjoy yourself, it's later than you think
You're a lot younger than I am so maybe you never heard it when you were a child. It's a very old song. I don't even know who sang it but it probably was Bing Crosby or someone like that.
See you all tomorrow

Good morning! Of course I have heard of Bing Crosby- but at the moment am not familiar with that song. But yes, its a true sentiment- time fliesl and only the Lord knows how much time we have left on this earth, or time that we will be able to travel. That is why I have been letting Dh drag me all over this summer, we usually are pretty busy but he seems to be pushing to do a bit more...I guess during the winter when weather keeps us in I will have plenty of time to just stay home. Of course with the hot weather, just staying home is not always a good option either.
Joanns also has a sale on quilting fabric. Will have to see what they have- I am going up with no particular quilt in mind, just want to help my friend get her fabric and get the pound of love. It does not hurt either that I get a teachers discount at Joanns too, an additional %15 off.
Lovely morning here- cool and bright. Hope Meg, CJ and Phyl are doing well. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I've had a few busy days. Yesterday I went to visit some family who are getting their house ready to put up for sale. It looks like so much work, I'm not looking forward to doing it myself I also did some grocery shopping. Today I went to the Amish Market and bought some goodie there. It's still warm here, but not too humid. I'm just trying to keep the house cool. Take care everyone!

Well that 15% makes it even better! And in helping your friend pick out fabrics you may see just the fabric you need for a future project. It sounds like your dh is still in the old mode too where he thinks you both need to get everything done before school starts again. He'll get used to you being home all the time too. I do like hot summers for that reason too..that dh then prefers to stay home and not go out in the heat. When the weather cools down there are quite a few things we want to get done before winter sets in but most of those are in the house and yarn.

CJ, didn't see your post. Yes getting a house ready to sell is a big job. However there's just so much you can get for a house depending on location mostly. IN some places it's certainly worth it to put in a lot of work to update, stage it, etc but in others not so much. I'm pretty sure I mentioned my sil doing a lot of expensive work on his parents house and all that did was decrease what his part of the sale price was. He could have sold it for the same price without having spent all that money remodeling. In fact he lost even more money because some company wanted to buy the house but not at his asking price then after a couple years on the market he finally ended up selling it for even way less than that company offered him. That was just a couple years ago.
However just getting things packed up and ready to move is a huge chore and you can't really sell a house with a lot of "stuff" in it so sometimes as you probably already know, you even may have to put some of your things in storage just so the house looks more spacious. When I sold my house in NY a realtor and customer showed without calling or anything so the house wasn't in "showable" shape but that's the person that ended up buying it. Of course that was back in the day where people offerered more than the asking price and tried to outbid one another.WE've been so blessed in selling houses.

Ok, frustration is setting in. I'm trying to find rattle inserts and crinkle paper for making baby toys. I looked on Micheal's site and Joann's but the search didn't bring up anything but the crinkled confetti type stuff you use to pack things or toss around at party's. Rattle inserts came up with nothing. They have some real cheapy looking ones on Amazon from China which I'd be afraid to use and only one crinkle paper. Guess I'll do what they said and use cereal bags but I'm not sure what they mean...the bag the cereal is in inside the box I guess. I want to make those squares that make the crinkly sound and have tags and I also want to make toys for my sister's cats.

Ruth, just a thought does Hobby Lobby carry that stuff, or AC Moore? I have never looked for rattle inserts before- I wonder if you are using the wrong wording in a search engine. (Have had that happen to me before!). I do hope you can find what you are looking for or something easy to substitute for what you need. After I get done with this post I will see if I can locate the stuff somewhere....
Phyl, well here I sit at my messy dining room table, complete with the fabric from the next table runner project! So what does that tell you? I do not clean up either! Think lots of us are not super neat with our crafting areas, and it does catch up to us eventually. Think that song is before my time., but I do thank you and Ruth for helping to figure out who was the artist.
CJ- well only 3 years ago I was stuck with the onerous task of selling my mom’s house. My realtor was an angel- and with the exception of one bathroom that seriously needed help- we went with no rennovations at all- just made sure everything was up to code, and that all rooms had a nice clean neutral coat of paint. Had the hardwood floors refinished ( they really reallly really were in bad shape) and other than that, the house was super clean. I did not stage, I did keep super cheap curtains ( simple sheers) up on all the main windows so the house did not look naked. And in a few strategic areas, I bought CHEAP area rugs, to keep foot prints down on the floors that I worked so darned hard to clean. My realtor said not to rennovate- the next owner would figure out what they wanted. So I went for very clean and a very neutral palate. Its a boatload of work. Think in your case you ought to figure out where you want to move, so that you can get excited about a new locaion- and then work toward that end. Just make sure that you pick a place with a good quilt shop and a farmers market nearby!
Got my yarn. Trip to Joanns was fun. I helped my Df pick out fabric- she found a charming red floral print and then we found a nice tone on tone beige fabric to go with it. I know she was looking for another red fabric to match the red floral. Until I found this adorable blue print to bring out the blue accent color in the red floral. Game over! I literally picked up the bolt of blue fabric- put it in the cart and walked away. Then I heard her scream “that’s it”! So we had a lot of fun shopping. THe quilt will be gorgeous when she finishes it- and ALL the fabric was %40 off. Cannot beat that.. I do think that counts as my crafting for the day.

When we sold our house in NY dh did do a few much needed things. And you are so right Ginny about the people moving in wanting to have the house their own. Most want to remodel to suit them so spending a lot of money is mostly not a good idea.Do the basics. And I agree with Ginny on that too CJ. Find out where you want to go then you can really get excited about moving and the task won't be so hard.
This morning when looking at the Joann's site I saw that the fabric was 40% off. What a great deal that is! And it sounds like you have a true knack, Ginny, on picking out fabrics and colors that go well together. If I made a quilt I'd have to have you pick out the fabrics for me.I think I'm getting better at picking colors and patterns that go together than I used to be but still not great. Now your fun begins when you help your friend with the questions she has when she starts making the quilt and when you see her learning new things and becoming proficient at doing them. And I love the quilt with the triangles they had on their site.
No I didn't think to look at Hobby Lobby and AC Moore. In fact just the other day I was thinking that since some of you had mentioned AC Moore I'd never looked at their site. As to the wording well I tried several things that I though might help but they didn't so there must be something I'm missing. I did use what the paper is called on Amazon and on a place called Americanfelt and craft. I heard that you can use the cereal bags... I think I may have already said that so forgive me for repeating myself...I'm old so I have an excuse. As I was searching for some black mustard seeds dh bought I did see some other things I could use for the crinkly sounds but don't know how they hold up. For the things that I can use a plastic Easter egg with beans inside it I do use those after wrapping in duct tape and wrapping in batting but I need something smaller for some of the things.that I want to shake and maybe jingle.I'll keep looking and thanks for the help. I probably won't get to making them for awhile anyway but would like to make some for my youngest dgs before he's too old for those type toys.

well I tried Hobby Lobby and AC Moore..no luck there either. I tried all the variations I could think of.
Now I need to stop procrastinating and get to work on the kitty I'm making. I did get the clutch purse done last night and am really happy with the way the band looks that you put your hand thru. I didn't know if the colors would be good together but they really work. I just need to sew on a button..always one thing more that I didn't do on somthing. I'll do it for sure tonight so that I can truthfully say it's completely done.

Yes Joanns had the fabric 40% off and then we had a coupon....my friend got all the fabric for a king sized quilt and all her cutting equipment for $220. Pretty good deal in my book! She has my directions for a double Irish chain...and should be able to make the quilt with little assistance from me. Those directions are idiot proof- extremely step by step and very very easy to follow. I made my first big quilt using them..
Regarding fabric selection, Joanns was a big help to me. When selecting fabric for my DSIL’s quilt, I was in a Joanns, and stymied over my decision. Color scheme I had ( I wanted Red, white and blue) but the fabrics were the issue. The woman at Joanns gave me a lot of help....and she was right. Anyway, most of the time you can find one main fabric, and then pull colors from that to accent. That is all I did yesterday. And unless you are trying to make a bargello quilt...where you are dealing with various colors in different tones, then just pulling a single color as an accent from the main fabric works. Then too all you have to deal with is the size of the print- keeping in mind that there should be prints of large scale, medium scale and small scale. Feel free to contradict me, I am NO expert on this.
Dd went to visit a friend this weekend. Looks like the job that she thought was hers is not.....she went for an interview on Wednesday and not heard back yet. (They usually let you know within 24 hours). I feel bad for her...am praying that something else comes her way- think she is becoming discouraged. Most of her class mates have already gotten full time positions (were lucky in that openings were there in their education specialty).
Better go get to some bills. Its going to be another hot day, we are in for several hot days again. Ginny

Ginny, thank you for that advice. It sure is sound advice. The instructor at the quilt class I attended made it sound complicated and she made it complicated. she said that you have to have a dark, a medium and a light of each color and what most of us thought of as dark, med, and light didn't fit her bill.I think for the small quilt top we were making she had us buy about15 different fabrics. Not sure of the exact number but it was a LOT. It was not a large quilt top either so there wasn't a lot of each fabric but there were a lot of different ones. I was never completely convinced that they ones she had me buy actually went together all that well. And I don't know that she ever mentioned a name for that quilt top.
HOt day again today and tomorrow here also but starting Sunday it will be cooler for about a week.
Yes I would think that they would have made a decision by now but you never know, she may hear yet.

Well in the quest to find my black mustard seeds I cleaned out several cupboards. I knew that when I found them they'd be somewhere right in front of my face. After I got all my cupboards cleaned...everything out, shelves, sides and fronts washed and things wiped off and put back in (spice shelves, etc,) I had just finished all but one shelf on the last one that held those type things and well, there it was staring right at me...right on the eye level shelf and right in front!!!! As I started to clean that shelf I saw the package sitting there laughing at me...of course not really but it sure felt like it.

Ruth those black mustard seeds were laughing just as hard as my daughters wedding rings. So glad you found them!

Yes the wedding rings probably told my mustard seeds to do that!
I never did get the eyes on the kitty last night. I made the eye pattern and it really is nice but the eyes were too large so I made them with a small hook and embroidery thread but they didn't turn out all that well in that. The yarn colors don't show up well so I went to plan B and made different eyes and will attemp to attach them this evening. I did watch a bunch of youtube videos on crocheting so lots of crafting there. And since I was busy trying different eyes I didn't get the button sewed on the clutch purse either so another project for this evening.
Some crochet magazine has a monthy challenge. They say make yourself a hat then make one to donate.Of course they want you to buy their magazine too. Well I already have a stack of hats waiting to go to the Senior Center to Caps for Kids and I don't wear hats myself so all mine are either for donating or for family but mostly for donating because I don't know how much my family members wear hats either.I was happy to see that my dggs' mother kept something on his head all the time. I can't believe the boys will soon be two.
