Good evening!
How right you are, Ruth here I am at the end of the day. Yes, it was a busy day. Thankfully its going to be cool tonight, great sleeping weather.
Even stores here are having back to school specials. I think lots of parents like to get their supplies early, and here in the NE- August is a big vacation month. So if you get the supplies now, then you are all set to send the kids back to school. I suppose here the first day of school is in September. Honestly, I do not know.....its not on my calendar, for the first time in a LONG time. Ha ha ha.
Our grocery stores have become all in ones! Here the store used to have a Dunkin donuts in it- but they took that space over and created a super deli and ready to serve food section. And they sell tons of exotic foods now also. And yes, a floral department, but that is pretty small.
Meg, I hope that you can get back into the habit of attending study! The Tuesday study I just went to is mostly more mature women....the THursday study is more women who are still raising children. (But anyone can attend either study). Anyway, I SO appreciate the wisdom that the women who have been in the faith longer bring. I am so sure that you would be a blessing to the study group Meg, as much as the group would be a blessing to you. That sure stinks that the last 2 books of the Poldark series are not in audio at your library!!! Will you read the books on your Kindle?
CJ- oh no! Glad you got your crown put back in. Last time you had a crown fall out, I had similar issues. I like you a lot but hope that I do not copy cat you again. There is something so peaceful about crafting in the night hours.....do you find your creative juices flowing better then?
Phyl- where are you girl? We miss you!!
Ok, I am going to go find a needle and some thread and close up the table runner. Have a wonderful night. Stay out of the heat......stay hydrated. Ginny
As far as crafting goes, I usually am too tired in the evening to take on much crafting. I might try to slip stitch that table runner closed when I finish saying hello

when my kids were in school they would give you the list of what the children needed on the first day of school never in advance. Here they have lists in all the stores of what is required in each school and for each grade so you can buy in advance. Yes buying before you go on vacation is a great idea. I used to request the first day of school off so that we could shop for what was needed that day.
YOu are such a busy person, Ginny. I thought maybe when you retired you would have lots of free time but same thing with me when I first retired, I seemed to use up all my time too. The first summer I mostly read constantly. Then it was shopping all the time...window shopping and feeding my shopping addiction
You all remember me buying the Christmas tree skirt pattern kit. It was 30 some dollars and I found a sale and got it for $26. Well I've been trying to find it every since on the craftsy site and haven't been able to and just a few minutes ago I remembered that my ddil had posted it on her facebook private messages to me. Well I found it and went to the site and it's now close to $60 and they claim that's a sale...that the usual price is over $70.I was hoping to get another good deal and buy another but I won't now for sure.
I still haven't started any toys nor have I finished the fingerless glove bows. Instead I picked up a thermo stitch potholder that was in progress and am working on it because it's a mindless project and I have the tv on for company.I just don't feel in the mood to do something today that I have to pay attention to

Good morning!
Ruth, that’s me- a lot- making something that I do not have to pay attention to! Happy for you that you had the potholder to work on last night, so that you could work on something mindless while checking out TV. I am so very glad that you found the Christmas tree skirt pattern when you did....you almost did not purchase it then because you felt it was too expensive. Cannot believe that they are now charging almost $60 anc calling it a sale! That is just slightly crazy to me. Do you think you will make it using the yarn they provided? If my memory serves me correct, you were considering making from yarn you had on hand and saving the yarn from the kit for other projects.
The schools sure do post their supply lists on web sites, and also at some of the big box stores.Sure does make it eaaier for parents who at least want to get the majority of the supplies early. I always hated having to shop for school supplies after the first day of school- lots of times stores were running low on items and I knew that I was not catching the best sales. Guess its a lot easier now for parents if they are organized.
Finished the table runner last night- so it is actually out on the table now!
Yes, I am still pretty busy. Dh has been retired for several years , and I am allowling him (for the moment) to keep me busier than I would like to spend the first month of my retirement. I am well aware that in the fall we start babysitting again- so our opportunities to do things will be lessened. Many times Dh has told me he was waiting for me to retire, he did not want me working this last school year at all. Well as it says in Ecclesiastes 3, there is a time and a place for everything...this is a busy season for me for now.
Got the directions out and my hooks for my DGN (to be born in December) baby afghan. Guess that is my next project.
Have a great day Ginny

hi ladies, gosh I just realized I have not been here all week. I Have not been doing any crafting. I GO down and look and come back upstairs. I want to just don't know what project to work on. I think I have an idea. I am going to put the charity stuff aside till fall maybe.
my left hip is still bugging me.getting some what better. sure funny my right hip (the one for surgery)has settled down.
well I pulled a ruth. last week my order from msqc came. I had a free sewing tin in the order. I know it was on the table with the rest of the stuff.I can not find the tin.I May have taken it downstairs and still cannot find it.
ruth keep checking on the tree skirt.they may have a better sale closer christmas. do you need to do both this year? maybe after christmas they will have a better sale.
yesterday I cleaned out a closet trying to find my pink robe to take with this weekend.
there it was between the wall and shoe it rack.the robe must have not been hung up right and got caught between another piece of clothing. when I took out about 3 items I saw it fall. only spent 4 days trying to find it. knew it had to be in the house.
so I found my robe,(this is a summer one)my brown jeans and my white slacks.
I knew the slacks had to be downstairs. don found them.
we are going to his high school reunion this weekend. they have it every year. boring.
it's hard when a person does not go to the same school as their dh. I do have theresa(dsil) and fern. fern's dh went to school with don.harold and don's parents were friends.
they don't do any games. just have the supper and lousy jokes and speeches. then they tell what year and call everybody's name who graduateted from the school.
one year I did not go.
don takes me anywhere (almost) so I can't tell him no.I did let him go by himself one year.
on the way there we will stop at a couple of amish quilt shops. they are on the way. the shops are more like a mercantile.
well today is get the upstairs cleaned. still have not done the downstairs.
happy crafting. phyl

Good morning Ginny and Phy and to meg and CJ when you stop in later
I'm going to run out in a minute to pick up something for dh and get gas in the car...llike Meg did yesterday. This little store is a convenience store which we have an abundance of in our town even though the town is small.I don't usually buy things there but don't want to have to go to a large store today.
Ginny you're right to do all these things now. It may seem like you're not retired yet when you're on the go all the time but it sounds like you're doing interesting things and you're doing them with your dh and making him happy and having some togetherness. Yes you're right about the kit. some nice yarn was in the kit, too nice to be lying on the floor, and also because white was not one of the choices, strangely,so I'll use it for something else. I was only looking at the kit so that if it was still on the old sale I could get it because of the yarn price.
Phyl, yes I see you pulled "a ruth" in a few things...hunting for the tin, the robe, and the jeans. Yes the HS reunion does sound rather boring. I hope they have good food. I'm glad you found the things you were looking for.I've never been to a HS reunion. My class was very large and I didn't know many people very well.Dh has no interest in seeing his old classmates.
Yes the hotpad/potholder only had one row done and I do make them large but I finished that last night. So today after I finish my errands and chores I'll get back to doing something else. I'll probably read over the Christmas tree skirt pattern. In looking at the kit again online I realized again how pretty it is.Then I'll probably start another of the little swimmies..saw a very cute pattern for a whale yesterday.
Have a great day everyone and enjoy every minute.

Good evening!
Phyl good to see you here! Do you think you will get the hip procedure done, once your blood levels are stable? Thanks for coining the phrase..”pulled a Ruth”. We can all relate to that and what she goes through. Hope you can enjoy the class reunion. Yes they are tough to attend it you did not also attend that same school.
Ruth, you are always on the lookout for a new project! How does the tree skirt patern look- is it simple and easy to follow? Where we went on vacation last year, Indian Lake NY was full of little convenience stores...but the big stores were a good 40 mile drive. Glad you finished the hotpad/potholder. They are so much more useful when they are a little bit larger.
Lots of laundry for me today- and some housework. Hope to crochet tomorrow. Ginny

Ginny, when we used to go to the Adirondacks there were usually no convenience stores handy. When we stayed at the place in Saranac Lake they did have two grocery stores that were relatively close...a Grand Union and I think the other was an A&P which I had thought were all gone long before that. Congrats on getting the table runner completely done and on your table. I'd love to see a picture. When we had our little house in Arkansas there actually was a little store right there even though it was a town of maybe 40 total people but it was on a road that took you to a good fishing place so there were a lot of people coming thru and stopping there for bait, etc. The regular stores were either 25 miles away in Hot Springs Village or over 40 miles away in Hot Springs itself. The second year we lived there they opened a walmart in the village which was very handy even though 25 miles and they did have a lot of nice little interesting stores. I sure miss going to the Adirondacks. It was so nice there...beautiful with the fragrance of pines in the air.
I changed a lot of my plan for today. I found some nice yarn in my stash. It looks like Dazzelaire (no label, I prob got it from Caps for Kids) and is in light and dark gray and white varigated. I made the parts for another stuffed kitty with it...haven't put the parts together yet. But I did alter the pattern some because it dawned on me that you don't need to make the head separate, as the pattern calls for so this time I made it already attached. Just decreased to the number of stitches you use to start the head and went from there. After I finished that I started a little whale with the same yarn. It's very simple and is made all in one piece. It's nearly done, just have to go in the cave and get some fiberfil. So I haven't read the Christmas tree skirt pattern yet.

Another hot day here. It was 101 today. I did go out in the morning as I had a Dr. apt. Nothing serious just checking up on odds and ends. Actually I have been doing very well recently and I haven't been to the Dr. for ages. I had to stop at Target to get DD some underwear and Target is a good place to go for her. She is hard on her clothes. I have not been crafting all week. I did get my crocheting out and it is still sitting there. I will have to start an audio book that will get me going. My DGD has had to wear glasses and contacts for years and tomorrow she is going to have the surgery to correct her eyes. She is very excited.
Ruth, you mentioned being surprised that stores have flower depts. All the grocery stores here have flower depts. Though I don't think they deliver. Some of the stores are now offering delivery service for groceries. I haven't used that service yet but I might be glad of it when I stop driving. Some of the stores have a coffee shop area. I have never been into Star Bucks as their coffee is too expensive. I have had their coffee a few times but I am not addicted to it like some people are. Devin's school sends a list of supplies they would like the parents to donate. So DGS usually buys a lot of supplies. I think that the teachers spend their own money for tissues and that sort of stuff. Yoo bad about the Christmas tree skirt. I am sure if you can wait awhile they will have them on sale at a much lower price.
Ginny, A bible study group is a good way to spend an hour or two. I did go to the study gp. at my church for awhile and stopped going because I had so many medical apts. for awhile. I will try to go back when Devin goes back to school. I know most of the people who will be attending. So it will not be like having to get to know a lot of strangers.
cj. I hope your tooth is all fixed. I hope you manage to stop by later.
Phyl. I would love to go to a high school reunion. I am sure it is boring for you if it is not your high school. But I bet your DH enjoys going.
Take care and try to find a cool spot.

Good afternoon all. I haven't been doing much today but time has been going anyway.
Meg, it's good to see you. I'm glad you are staying out of the heat. In your area with low humidity it's even more important to stay hydrated so I hope you're drinking a lot of water...well unless your doctor has advised you not to do so but I don't remember you having any conditions that would warrant that advice. I'm glad to hear Devin is enjoying the pool and sorry to hear the two books aren't available on audio. that happens a lot to me...not that they aren't available on audio but that they aren't available on my library's online site.
Phyl, I checked my zucchini blossoms after looking on the internet to see how the male and female blossoms differ and I think I have all make blossoms. No wonder my self pollinating of them didn't work. I'll keep checking though to see if any females turn up although it doesn't look promising. It also says go out in the morning before the blossoms close for the day but whenever I look the blossoms are already closed. I have to open them to look inside.
Haven't done any crafting yet today except for showing dh my whale which is from a very simple whale patter with only a tail...no other fins...and dh says it needs fins. I'll look at some of the other patterns to find fin directions but I do think I'll keep some of them simple. The killer whale will get fins
Today I'm going to at least make a manta ray I thought I posted earlier so hope this isn't a repeat. I do remember saying that I was going to do eyes for the whale and practice eyes and do some more finishing work on other things that need it.
See you all later

Good afternoon!
Ruth, check out your post, its a pretty funny read. You are going to make at least a manta ray.... and give the killer whale fins. Very comical read indeed. Now I have no idea why all your zucchini blossoms are male. Makes no sense to me, and I wonder how to encourage a plant to make female blossoms also. Hope you can get some pollinated....somehow.
Meg, glad you were able to get some underwear for Dd- indeed that is one thing that Target does really well. Is the DGD who is getting her eyes corrected the one who lives in FLorida? That is very exciting for her and I do not blame her one bit for being excited. Its quite something to be able to give up glasses after a long time. Best of luck to her and I hope that her procedure goes really well. I have heard much good about the laser procedure and that it is very successful.
Got some work done on the baby afghan. The first few rows are challenging to do- really not hard at all, but a challenge becasue the afghan has no weight and flops around. I am going to start the 4th row- so its getting easier. I forgot what a pretty pattern it is.
Hope everyone is having a great day Ginny

Ginny, sometimes I read my posts and don't even know, myself, what I said. I often have to go back and change the wording.
Well dh has confiscated my little penguin. He really likes it and is very interested in oceanography. His "man cave" has a lot of fish themed things in it and is painted an ocean blue. His computer room aka man cave, is one of our projects...getting the painting finished in there and things more organized but first our bedroom which will be next week when it's cooler. It still doesn't really get cool in there even with the A/C in the room outside the bedroom...the family room so I want to wait till it's cooler. So anyway, the little penguin has found a new home sitting on dh's desk
I did start making an octopus but dh came up and we were discussing the bedroom project.
Ginny, good to hear you already have three rows done on the baby blanket. That is really inspiring me to start one also. I keep thinking about doing it but then tell myself I need to get these other things done but then somehow I don't want to work on the other things and end up wasting that time playing online games which is a complete waste.I never know when one of the grandchildren is going to have a baby so I want to get one done for when the time comes. Not that any of them need another or a first baby right now but somehow it happens whether they need one or not.I also want to make some to put away for the younger grands that aren't involved yet in activities that produce offspring.I hope that when ds' kids are old enough...which actually some are...that they wait until they have a good husband or wife before they have their own children.

Good evening !!
Ruth, as prolific a crochetter as you are, I would think that making another baby afghan would not be a struggle at all.Gee, I am humbled that you actually were insipred by me to make something! I think its so very cute that Dh has taken your penguin. His man cave sounds like a pretty neat place to be. Its decorated with a lot of love.
Yes, I am glad I got started on that baby afghan. And I hope this afghan goes quickly. I have painting to do at the house and a few other projects before school starts....and I have to baby sit again. Its supposed to rain tomorrow....hope that does not mess up our plans.

Ginny, I wasn't very clear on the baby blanket. Not only did you inspire me by talking about getting your's started but it's your pattern that I'm going to use also. I love that pattern!!
I got my octopus done...well it doesn't take long..it's small and the pattern is simple. Dh won't take it because it's purple. I may have to make him one in gray.
I sure hope it doesn't rain and spoil your plans too. It already rained on your baseball game the other day.

Phyl, glad you are in a good place and will be able to have the surgery. (A good place physically that is...)
Ruth, I understood you plenty on the baby afghan...so glad that I suggested a really nice (and easy) pattern that you can use also!!! With a smile on my face, I think you ought to go make Dh his grey octopus.
Sure looks like rain here....hope we can get done what we want to do. Ginny
