I did start the baby blanket last night. Got three rows done. After making all these small things 105 stitches in a row seems like a lot. And did you notice, Ginny, that the pattern calls for Bernat pound of love baby yarn...well Bernat doesn't make pound of love . Of course it makes no difference at all what they called it. They also said it's #3 and of course Pound of Love is #4...again doesn't make a difference but it's just interesting. I will make dh his octopus today and I'll put the real spirily legs on him. The purple one I made yesterday has different legs and I somehow only came out with seven. I don't think any one will notice.I'm also going to make that manta ray and I might as well make two. Dh will have a little shelf in his redone cave and it will have these and other sea figurines sitting on it.A couple birthdays ago I bought him some nice little wooden fish at Hobby Lobby that he has in that room PHyl, well you made a good guess because zucchini is supposed to have both male and female blossoms but "they" say that male blossoms are more numerous than the female ones. Phyl, does the med you take to lower your platelets also affect the production of red and white cells? Has the doctor mentioned anything about that? I'm sure they check all that too when they're checking platelets. It's all part of the blood cell count. Ginny, again, I hope you're able to carry out your plans and rain doesn't spoil them. CJ and Meg, I hope you both are also having a good weekend. Sometimes (well to me) sitting at home relaxing doing what you like is the best weekend.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - Hope you have a safe trip and hope that your DH (and you) enjoy the reunion. Ruth - All your sea "animals" sound so interesting. That's nice that your DH wanted the penguin for his desk. Ginny - Hope your afghan is coming along and you are enjoying some cooler weather. Meg - I'm glad you're still enjoying the Poldark books. Hopefully we'll get another season of Poldark later this year. It's cooler and rainy here today, below 70s degrees. It's always so strange to have this type of weather in the middle of Summer. But I'm not complaining, I'm happy not to have the heat. My crown is staying in so far, so hopefully I won't have the problems like I did last year where it came out 3 times over the course of a few months. I might make a small batch of peach preserves this weekend. It will just make one jar for me. I did this with strawberries back in May and just finished that off a few days ago. Years ago I made large batches of preserves and jam every year. But there's no point in doing it anymore. Plus I really don't have the energy for it now. I did always make several fresh peach pies each Summer too and I miss those. I might try to see if I can scale down a recipe and make a small one. I enjoyed watching the GBBS last night, but it was so scary for the guy who cut his hand. Take care everyone!

Well, I have 5 rows done of the baby afghan....did pretty well as we were in the car and I had to navigate- our GPS system works pretty well but sometimes Dh needed help.I am making the afghan a bit wider than the directions call for , think my opening chain was 124 instead of 106?
Ruth, well you are certainly more attentive to details than I am! Will have to check out the pattern....yes Pound of Love is Lion brand, and I never paid attention to if its a 3 or 4 thickness yarn. All I know is that I really liked the way it worked up for DGDโs afghan, and will stick with it for this afghan. Thanks for being observant.
Well, CJ- you got some heavy rain today. I know.....I thought of you as my husband and I travelled to Washington to see a baseball game. Hope that you are able to enjoy the cooler weather, sounds like this system will be with you for a few days. No need for airconditoning and you can perhaps open a window or two. Glad your crown is staying in!!! That can be so frustrating when they have to be recemented in. Will have to watch the GBBS later on. Sounds like it was a bit of a gut wrenching episode.
So, yesterday we left for Washington DC to see the Nationals play the Atlanta braves. The game we had tickets for was tonight....which is postponed becasue of rain. Mid morning Dh and I realized that would most likely happen- so we checked out and drove home in the rain. We did yesterday and this am get to most of the memorials we wanted to see, plus Arlington Cemetary. It was DHs first trip to Washington,we did have a good time. We also got a little view of the White House, but after 9 miles of walking (or so my fitbit said!) we did not want to go further....and went back to the motel. Would have liked for Dh to see his โNatsโ play....but we made the best of it. And its good to be home. Ginny

CJ, I'm glad it's cool so that you don't have to use the a/c and as Ginny said maybe open some windows and get real air. The peach preserves sound greaat. We don't get many fresh peaches here that are good but probably even those that are not so good would be great in preserves. Maybe you can post a recipe, or I could look one up. I wouldn't want to make a large batch either.
Ginny, yes I may see all those insignificant details but most mistakes I make are due to not paying attention as I should to patterns. And I agree about the Pound of love. It's fantastic and I love it. I wouldn't make this blanket in a #3 yarn. It's great in the P of L. You got a lot done considering that you had to navigate. We don't have gps but probably wouldn't use it if we did.
I'm sorry to hear the game was postponed because of rain but I'm glad you got to see so many things in Washington. I went there once years ago. I took my youngest brother and my sister and we had a great time. They were a lot younger than me and I had just recently graduated from nursing school so it was a long time ago.It was really interesting. I could have spent a week walking around the Smithsonian. Wouldn't even dream of driving in DC nowdays though.
And as far as yarn numbers go (back to yarn discussion), I started that Manta ray earlier. You make two of them and join together and stuff. They're made flat. Well I used Red Heart with love in gray for the top layer then used some off brand white that was also a worsted weight for the bottom layer but it came out much smaller than the top layer. So I went and scrounged around and found the With Love white I had and it still didn't come out right so I had to go to a size larger hook to get the bottom to fit the top.I know we talked about worsted weights being different before but now here's two that are the same brand, same name of yarn and still are different. It sure makes it hard to make things that need different colors of yarn. Otherwise it wouldn't have taken me any time at all to make that. I came downstairs to enjoy the a/c so I don't have the yarn I need with me to make the octo. Guess I'll have to make myself go up and get it and stop being lazy.

Ruth, think I had mentioned that I made a ripple afghan from 3 colors of the same yarn. THe one color was very different in weight than the other two. Go figure.
I did get Dh to go into the Smithsonian to see the dresses worn by the first ladies. IMO they have made that exhibit much smaller...but I was still very glad to see what I did. So interesting how styles change..... G

I saw that one too but there were a lot less first ladies when I was there.
I think I do remember that you said you did the ripple and one yarn was different even though supposed to be the same weight. I think you mentioned it after I made dh that poncho to wear in his cold computer room and it had three colors also. One was wool ease, two were colors of RH super saver but all were a different thickness. In your afgan it must have made the sides different too because it did that in the poncho.
I went upstairs to get my stitch marker and yarn needle but also got food so forgot my crochet supplies. I did bring the baby blanket down so will work on that for a half hour before I start on my attempt to get to sleep.
See you all tomorrow

The different yarns were just wierd to work with and I always had to remember when working with the white yarn that it snagged a bit more.. it did not impact the scale of the afghan at all- speaking of that afghan, I wonder if Dd still even has it! I gave it to them on their first anniversary and I have not seen it in 6 or 7. Years. Of course she might have put it away for safe keeping... who knows?

Hello Crafters Ginny - Your trip to DC sounds like it was nice, I'm glad you enjoyed the museums and touring. It's been years since I went in any of the museums, but they were nice when I did visit them. Sorry your DH missed the baseball game. Maybe he can get back for another one this season. Ruth - I did make the peach preserves (jam) this morning. I only used 2 peaches and it made about a cup of preserves, just enough for me. Here's the recipe I used: happyhourprojects.com/no-pectin-peach-jam/Since I only used 2 peaches I cut the water to 2TB and the sugar to 1/2 cup. I also didn't add the lemon juice and didn't see any difference in color. I'm also kind of lazy with preparing jars and lids, so I just wash mine out with hot soapy water and then soak them in hot water while the preserves (jam) is cooking. And I don't put my jars in a water bath afterward because I know I'm going to eat the jam quickly, and I do keep it in the fridge after first opening the jar. I just seal it after pouring the jam in the jar and leave it on the counter until I hear the "pop" knowing that it sealed. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are getting in some crafting. It's raining here again today, but I don't have any reason to go anywhere so it's nice to stay home. I do have a few windows open with fans going and won't turn on the AC unless I need to. I haven't been doing any crafting, but I look at a lot of it on the Internet. I think I like reading about it and looking at it more than doing it Take care everyone!

Oh well that's good that it didn't affect how the edges turned out or anything. As for where it is, well I often have wondered where some of the things I've made for ddil and ds are. I've made them several baby blankets and I think I mentioned that after her mother died and she gave me all her mother's yarn I made her close to 20 of the knitted diagonal dishcloths because she had seen one and liked them. I never saw them in use in their home...neither the dishcloths nor the blankets. Finally when the 7th child was born...their second boy... she mentioned that blanket that I made for him and even showed pictures in which he was using the blanket. Yes sometimes people do put things away for safe keeping. I have done that a lot and still do. I have two sets of good china still packed away after about 25 years as I never unpacked it even in our last home. But I have seen her use the things her aunt gave her...her aunt is an unbelievably fantastic quilter.Oh and speaking of quilts, my dd somehow got a baby quilt years ago that was made with Precious Moments fabric and somehow I got it. I had it for awhile and finally gave it to ddil. I never, ever saw it at their house and have always wished since that I'd kept it.
I worked on the baby blanket last night as I said I was going to do but didn't make any progress because I kept putting in an extra double crochet where there were only supposed to be 2. So I ripped that row out or parts of it out 3 times then decided I must be too tired to work on it.
Nice cool day here today. It's only 73 so far. Tomorrow will be shopping day and day to clear up the prescription problem so we'll probably be out for awhile. Not that we need much but at least we'll get some exercise walking around. I didn't intend to go to the store where the pharmacy is but now will have to.

Hello everyone. I am having a very lazy weekend. The temp. today is 97 I think but I will stay home. I have been knitting and crocheting and reading which helps keep me motivated. The knit b/blanket is coming along well and the one I am crocheting needs a little help. On one side the edge has something wrong with it and I don't want to have to rip it out so I will check with UTube. I have crocheted this b/blanket several times and did not have any trouble.
Ginny, I am glad that you and DH had a great time in Washington. Sorry that DH was not able to attend his game. You really walked a lot, good for you and I hope you did not have sore feet. A few years ago DS took DGDs. The probably were in their teens then so that was a good age for them to go. I have never been and now I probably would have a difficult time keeping up.
Ruth, I use a lot of Pound of love. I like it for my b/blankets. Well I hope your DDIL didn't use the quilt to line the dogs bed. If you remember that's what happened to my afghan. My DGDs still have afghans I made them when they were little girls. I am glad you had a cool day today. It is a little cooler but it is a little humid which I don't like.
cj, I have some rhubarb that I need to use before it withers in the refrigerator. I am glad your jam turned out well. What evening is the BB show? tonight I will watch Poldark if it is on. I will have to check the schedule.
Enjoy the rest of your Sunday.

Good afternoon!
Yes, Last night I watched GBBS- this was the quarter final in which they made some square pastry that I have never heard of and filled cones (which looked amazing). Noone got hurt, so CJ will (Please!) fill me in where I am in the series. I do have others on DVR- and am watching them out of sequence. CJ- the peach preserves sound so very good- and you do have this all figured out to make quantities that work for you. Many folks have trouble with that and cook for a small army when all they need is 2 servings.

CJ, thanks for the recipe. When I go to the store again I'm going to look for peaches. Well when you're going to use them right away and keep them refrigerated you probably don't need to seal them at all. sure don't need a water bath.Oh and since Meg mentioned the rhubarb, I bet you could make a nice rhubarb jam or strawberry rhubarb but with just rhubarb maybe you'd need more sugar
Meg, I sure do remember that your afgan was used for the dog bed. I was so disappointed that you went to all that work and that's what they did with it. Some people though really love their dog and maybe they meant it as a compliment but I'd be upset about that too. As for the sides of your blanket, well sometimes that happens to me and I can't figure out what went wrong. A woman on your old knitting thread on WW board gave a pattern for a baby blanket to me and to Marlene. I made one and it was fine but when I tried another the sides just kept being wrong and Marlene had the same problem
Ginny, I only had two kids but I've always cooked for a small army and that's probably why dh is such a big eater and has a large tummy. Got that from being in a family of 8 while growing up. So I probably need to learn CJ's skill at cutting down recipes so that I don't make so much at a time.

And CJ for short term storage, I would think your method of canning is fine. I will check out your recipe- I am sure that Dh would love some home made peach jam. Its almost local peach season here.
Ruth, so sorry that you have issues with the pharmacy. That can be a royal pain in the neck- hope the issue is resolved easily and quickly. Yes, I think that you probably needed to take a break from crochetting....if you keep making the same mistake. It happens when we are tired....and you do so much crochetting. Congrats on getting that cute little manta ray done!! WIsh I could see how cute it is.
Meg, hope you do not have to rip out much from your afghan. Of course you can solve the problem the lazy Ginny way (have done this once) and when I was not happy with how the edge looked I added a quick border. Problem solved. But I suspect you will fix things the right way.....so sorry you have such hot weather. Glad you are staying inside and crafting and reading. And I too remember the story of your afghan being used as a dog bed. How frustrating. I would, perhaps, make an afghan for a cat or dog bed but only of yarn that I had no other use for. Certainly not a good afghan.
Well thanks to our trip I have ordered two books from the library on the authors of the constitution. I will read one and Dh the other, then switch. We hope to get other tickets for a future game and travel to DC by bus. Dh has already figured out a way to do that, then we do not have to drive....and I can crochet or read a lot!!!!
Have a good night Ginny
