Yes time goes by fast. A lot of the crocheting sites are starting their Christmas cal's. This is the time to get started I guess.
I forgot to mention that I also got dgs' bag to hold his hatching dino made. After I finished it though I thought about the color which is ocean colors and I thought maybe I'd make him sea creatures instead. We sent him a little whale several months ago and he loves it so I know he'd love more sea creatures. I'm thinking dolphins, whales, sharks, octopus, etc.
Which reminds me, Ginny. I saw the cutest ideas on one of the sites. For one of them you take little bins or boxes that are completely various primary colors...or you could make them those colors, then you crochet little balls in the colors and the children use them as a game tossing the balls into the correct bins...teaches colors and also fun game to get the balls into the bins without bouncing out. The other was a pail of "snowballs". Make a little container full of white balls so that children can have a snowball fight indoors.I'm definitely making that one. I can see my grands throwing crochet snowballs at each other. And it will be an easy thing to make while sitting and watching tv or listening to a cd.And I have lots of white yarn, I've often thought of the crochet frisbee but haven't made any of those. Frisbees are a little harder because you have to get them crocheted tighter to be firm enough and it takes a lot of yarn.
Well we are in a new week. Praise God for His goodness in giving us this time!

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - You might like the Ice Cream bread. I think it would work better with a flavored ice cream. If I hadn't put the chocolate chips in it the vanilla would have just been bland. It's very hot here today, in the 90s and feels like over 100 degrees. I plan to stay inside. I've gotten caught up watching some shows I'd taped over the last few weeks that I hadn't watched, so I enjoyed that. Take care everyone!

I wonder if it would work with gluten free flour. I think some said it would but I have yet to find a bread recipe for bread made with gluten free flour that didn't turn out like a brick or very gummy.
This was supposed to be a cool weather week but my thermometer already says 86 so who knows
I've spent the morning trying to figure out why my computer will open some pdfs and not others and also why I can't download from the Red Heart site although I can download from other sites and also why in that daily email from all free crochet I can open two of the choices and then after that no more will open. It will work again for another couple of them if I reboot but I hate having to reboot every five minutes. After I open the 2 or so things in that email I also then can't get to other sites. I guess I'll have to resort to asking my son but I hate to bother him because he's so busy.

Hi Ginny, Thanks for starting us for another week. I have noticed that Christmas projects are now available and also that we are getting near the end of July. Devin will start school in the middle of August. How time flies.
It is HOT here today and I have stayed home again. Devin had a dip in the pool and I watched him through the window. I got my b/blanket out to do some crocheting and instead read aook on my Nook which was not audio. I will probably listen to an audio book this evening and do some crocheting. I just have not been in the mood to do any crocheting the last few days.
Ruth, Sorry you are having computer problems. I hate it when there are some sites that need to get into and can't. I hope your DS can find the time to help you. I am sure your DGKs will have fun having an indoor snow fight.
cj, I watched the British Baking show last night or was it Sat. Anyway those sponge cakes looked yummy. The British are big on sponge cakes. I remember my mother baking them. Last night I watched Poldark. I really look forward to it every Sunday.
I wish you all a good evening.

Thank you Meg, It's good to see you. I'm glad you're able to stay inside when it's so hot. I'm not sure when the kids here go back to school but it's usually toward the end of August. Is Devin looking forward to going back or is he dreading the new school year?
I did find a way to open my pdf's after much searching and trying various things. I never did email my son.
Only crafting I've done today is look up patterns for little sea creatures and sew the button on the clutch purse so it's all done now. I'm trying to get up the courage to work on the face of this second stuffed cat.I hate to do things that I'm not familiar with but how can I get experience in doing them if I don't start. They say practice makes perfect but we probably never get really perfect with anything but better with time...philosophy of the day I guess.
CJ It's good to see you also. I'm not sure I'll try the ice cream bread because mostly we eat up all our ice cream and I'm not sure dh would like the bread. He's not much interested in sweet breads. The recipes you share with us are all very interesting and worth trying but on this one I may pass. Thanks for telling us about it.

Good evening! Ruth, I think the idea of making little balls (white or colored) for the kids to play with is such a good idea. DGD #1 is heading for kindergarten, but we willl also have DGS and DGD#2. What an adorable project idea...thanks for finding it! I am curious to see what other sea creatures you find patterns for and end of making. You do take on the most interesting projects. I am sure that the second stuffed cat will be adorable.try not to be overly critical of your work. Whatever you do will look great.
Meg, so glad Poldark was on for you! Its such a nice treat to have a show that you can look forward to each week. Hope that its a long season.. and that you can enjoy it for a long time. I hate it when I watched a series and the season was so short. Hard to believe that Devin has only a month left of this summer break! When its so hot its hard to get up the initiative to want to work with fuzzy warm yarn. The GBBS is also fun to watch. Lord knows I would never be able to be so innovative with baking under such a time constraint.
CJ- think I might try that ice cream cake in the fall when I actually feel like baking. Glad you are staying cool.....is it supposed to get cooler in your area soon?
I did take out one prairie corner on the table runner- and sew it back in. I did not like how it was laying. That was it for my crafting today.
Have a good night. Ginny

Busy day!! Table runner is almost done- just have to hand stitch the opening shut and iron it. I love it looks so pretty. Got to chat with my pastors wife today, and we have agreed to take a quilting class together in the fall. (She is a really nice woman).
Got out for Bible study also....all in all a good day. Its humid here, but the cold front is coming through and supposed to carry the humidity away.
Hope everyone is having a great day Ginny

Good afternoon to Meg and good evening to those of you in the east and midwest.
It's a nice day here today but the cool days aren't lasting as long as forecasted. It will be 90 tomorrow and higher the rest of the week
I've been making a little penguin today and still have to sew on the flipper or wings or whatever they are and put a pupil in the eye and it will be done. I had to take a break because I'm tired of sewing on parts. I don't know if I'll ever get good at it during this lifetime. I did find that, although I thought I had finished sewing all the things onto the fingerless gloves I forgot a pair or three. So I'll do that probably today. I have a couple things to cook in between though
Ginny, how nice to have your pastor's wife join you in a quilting class in the fall. Has she quilted before? It's a lot more fun going to those things when we have a friend with us. And congrats on getting the table runner nearly finished and I'm so glad you like it. Sometimes I'm not real pleased with how some of my things turn out and it's always great when they do. I'm sure you are really happy with your table runner. It's such a great feeling to finish something like that.
CJ, Meg, and Phyl, what are you all up to today. I hope you have/had a good one

We went to a minor league baseball game this evening...came back early due to rain.
Ruth, you are probably way too hard on yourself getitng those little eyes and faces on the little animals. But I hear you , sometimes its nice to have another project to work on to break up boredom or tedious work. Sounds like those gloves will help with that also. I do not know how you keep track of all the crafting you do! You make so much and are so generous.
THis table runner is a twin to one I made last summer. Thought that 2 would coordinate better in our somewhat small home...hope to finish it tomorrow.
Yes, it will be great to hear from Phyl, CJ and Meg when they can check in G

Ginny, somehow I knew you would say that. You are the nicest person. I do agree though that I am hard on myself and when I look at the projects other people make even when they display their final product I do see mistakes that they make also or maybe not really mistakes but just some areas that don't turn out completely perfect. I did finish that little penguin and I got one foot a little off kilter so that he kind of lists to one side but actually it's very cute that way.His eyes aren't exactly as I would like but still he looks fine. Tomorrow I'm going to make a starfish and a sand dollar mostly because they're both easy. Or I might do an octopus because they're easy too.
I didn't get to the gloves but still might get one pair done. All I have to do is put a bow on each one and the pattern designer suggests you just attach the ends so that the gloves can stretch easily over the arm and hand so that shouldn't take long.
It did get a lot hotter today than they said it would. It got up to 95. Later we had a hail storm with strong wind and it looked like a winter blizzard because after the larger hail they turned to just ice particles so it looked like it was snowing....HARD! You couldn't even see. So that's three really bad hail storms just in the last month and I keep thinking of the hail damage to the roof.
I thought I might see a posting from Meg but she is probably reading or listening to an audio book while knitting or crocheting.
See you all tomorrow

Good afternoon all. I haven't done any crafting today so far except to look at some patterns after one popped up when I signed on this morning. Then I did a little cooking. Made dh a pasta salad and I have salmon cakes mixed and ready to make into the actual cakes and pop into a pan. Got the kitchen partly cleaned but decided to take a break. Spent some time with dh this morning to.
So now I want to look thru some yarn I have sitting in the corner and get some out to make the little toys and I'm thinking of starting the Christmas tree skirt so that I can pick it up and work on it in free moments but I don't know if the pattern is such that you have to really concentrate or not or keep track of where you are so I really need to read over the pattern before I start that. I have so many things I want to work on that sometimes I just can't decide so do something entirely different and waste time.
Just wanted to stop in though and say hello before too much time has passed and you're all asleep.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today The weather here is finally cooler, in the high 80s but with lower humidity. That's nice after the last few days. I had a dental appointment yesterday to get a crown put back in - it fell out while I was flossing. So while I was out I ran errands and got groceries. I bought some fresh green beans and cooked them today. I decided not to cook anything (like ham) in them since the last time I added the ham hocks they were just too greasy. Ruth - Your pasta salad and salmon cakes sound good. My mother used to make the salmon cakes a lot when I was a child. Even though it's tough to decide on a project, I'm glad you have so many that you want to do Ginny - Sorry your game was rained out. Did you finish the table runner today? I have enjoyed the few table runners I've made. They are quick but still a nice way to showcase fabric and decorate the house. Meg - Hope your weather isn't too bad and that you are "reading" a good book. Are you almost finished with the Poldark series? Speaking of the sponge cakes, I tried Mary Berry's Victoria Sponge Cake recipe and it was pretty good. It's just an adjustment for my US palate since I've found that a lot of British recipes are not as sweet and the texture is a bit heavier. Phyl - Hope you are feeling well and getting some crafting done. I haven't been doing any crafting. It seems like the time of day that I get the motivation to work on something is after 10:00 P.M. at night!!! Isn't that a strange time of day to feel motivated? There have been a few evenings where I did do some fabric cutting and piecing up to around midnight. I guess it's the "night owl" in me. Take care everyone!

Hello, Ginny, Ruth, cj, & Phyl. I hope you are all staying cool today. The high here is 105 so I am staying indoors and luckily I don't have to go anywhere except the service station to fill up my car . I will leave that to later when it cools off. I have not been doing any crafting. I did get my b/blanket out yesterday but I didn't do any crocheting. It will get finished eventually. I have been reading a lot. I did go out to dinner last evening and ordered a chef salad and it was the worst chef salad I've ever had. The food at the restaurant is usually very good.
Ginny, I am glad you were able to get out to bible study. I hope that now you are retired you will be able to go on a regular basis. For years I went every Wed morning and then we would go for lunch. I was the youngest in the group and all of my friends are dead now and I do miss them all. There is a bible study at church on Thur morning and I think I will go to that. I did go for while but stopped because I had so many medical appts. I don't have many appts. now so I think I will try and go again after Devin goes back to school.
cj, I have been reading a lot . I have 2 more of the Poldark series to read 11 & 12. I am giving myself a break but I will get back to them soon. I am just doing some light reading at the moment. The last 2 Poldark books are not available in audio at my library. I hope you are avoiding the heat. Do you get a lot of humidity? The texture of cakes and bread id different in the UK and the measurements are different. I do have my mothers cook book with some of her favorite recipes also some of the war time recipes when everything was rationed and we had to substitute ingredients.
Ruth, You are the craftiest person here. I hope you are not too hot and that you can keep crafting. You had an ice blizzard, that seems odd to me at this time of the year. If we had rain here now it would be like taking a warm shower. We could use the rain but that will probably will not happen until Oct.
Phyl, I hope you are keeping well and cool.
Bye for now.

CJ, I've never had a ham hock. The green beans sound really good but if they're too greasy with the ham hocks maybe you could crisp up a little bacon and sprinkle on the top before eating. That should liven them up some. I'm sorry you lost a crown and had to have it replaced. That happened last year too didn't it?
Meg, Getting out to a Bible study sounds like a great idea. You'll meet some new people and maybe go out to lunch with them. I'm sorry your chef salad was so bad. Did you tell them about it? It's usually a good thing to let them know because then they can make them better and someone else won't have to have the same bad experience that you had. 105 is just way too hot even though you have low humidity. I'm glad you could stay home and only go out to get gas. I'm going to do that in the morning. My gas gauge doesn't work right and if it gets to 1/4 it's empty.
The grocery stores all have back to school sales this week. I don't think the kids here go back until about the 27 or so of August. And why are all the grocery stores turning into general stores. Our Albertson's recently put in a whole new florist section. It's not supposed to be a place to buy flowers, it's supposed to be for buying food. They also put in a Starbucks. I'd never buy from Starbucks. They're regular coffee is terrible and the other coffee drinks are way too expensive IMHO.So my gripe of the day.
Still haven't started on any crocheting. I think I'm kind of like you CJ in that I get most inspiration late at night. I do usually stay up till 1am though. I might as well stay up even later because I never get to sleep until 4am but I'm just afraid that if I went to bed at 4 maybe I'd be awake until 7 then.
Ginny must be really busy today and hasn't had time to stop in but maybe, as happens often, her post will show up when I send this one.
Ok going to go and do something with yarn. See you all later
