It's nice to see so many posts CJ, that takes a lot of willpower to get only one slice of pie especially strawberry/rhubarb. I do miss having farmer's markets here. sometimes as you drive along you might see one from Colorado here but it's not a regular thing so nothing that you can plan on.They just park in a parking lot somewhere and put up a sign. Anyway, you do such a good job working out your eating plan to accomodate treats like that. Ginny, so sorry you got some flooding in your house.Luckily you caught it and had the dehumidifier ready to turn on. I didn't realize the grandchildren were spending the night. I remember the days My youngest one here just turned 13 and hasn't spent the night since he was an infant.I hope you find some fun crafts for them to do while they're visiting and I hope it isn't too hot so that you can take them outdoors if you want to do that. Meg, I hope it cools down there. It sure did here. It's not even 70 here yet today. I did start the seahorse but that's about it. I ended up doing other things instead of crocheting. I don't know if dh has plans for today or not. I hope not. We already decided to wait until tomorrow to shop.It rained here yesterday too but not a whole lot.And we don't even have gutters. It never used to rain enough to bother with them. This year it's rained more than usual.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are doing well today Meg - I hope it gets cooler there soon, that must be miserable to be so hot. Ginny - I'm sorry to hear about the water in your house, I hope the dehumidifier takes care of getting the moisture out. It's finally stopped raining here, hopefully for you too. I haven't tried Stevia, I'm hooked on Equal (aspartame). I've heard it's a good sweetener though. Ruth - Hope you can get to work on your seahorse later on. Your weather sure is cool! Thanks for the kudos on getting one slice of pie, but I have to admit it was easier because this place already portioned the pie into one slice containers I've been eating a bunch of a junk for a few weeks now, so I'm not doing well at all with staying on track. I'm hoping I can get this "out of my system" and get back on track soon. I can tell I've gained weight but I'm afraid to get on the scale I actually did get to work on my Solstice quilt last night. This quilt top has 25 blocks, about 12 inches in size. I've decided to put them 5 blocks in a row, for 5 rows and I'm going to just sew them all together into one big 25 block quilt block. Then I'm going to put a few borders on it. I'd really like to get this top done by August 1st so I can start on some other tops I've been wanting to make. It's finally sunny here today, but warmer. I did go out earlier and got some groceries and bought some food to eat for lunch and dinner. It's a pleasure to get a break from cooking for myself. Take care everyone!

CJ, well I'm sure you'll get back on track. It's so tempting when you see good foods and so hard to resist foods that we like. There are so many reasons we eat. Most of us don't eat only for the nourishment but for various other reasons including the fact that some things just plain taste so good that we can't eat just a little of it. What keeps me on track isthe fact that I'm so happy to be at a weight I probably haven't seen since I was 10 years old. I want to stay here!
Well we did go out shopping after all and it was a major disappointment. One of the things I wanted to get was bulueberries that they had on sale for 99cents for each 11 oz container if you bought 12. so I was going to buy 12 to put in the freezer but all they had was 3. If you bought them individually they were $1.49 which is still a good price but I thought that since they only had 3 that they should sell them to me for 99 cents each anyway. They didn't though so I didn't get them. If one of the managers I know had been around they would have done that but I didn't see any of the ones that are usually there. Had good luck at the other store though because they have digital coupons and I don't have a smart phone so was unable to download those but they gave me the things for that price anyway.
I plan to spend the rest of the day resting and crocheting but probably will cook some things too. It is hotter than they said it would be. I think we'll do some painting on SAturday so tomorrow my either a day of sitting and crocheting or moving things in order to be able to paint more easily.

Phyl, the only way I've seen platelets reported is by the mcl...a microliter. They should be between 150,000 to 500,000/mcl. (it does vary by lab but not by much) your meds are working well. And since it's been 15 years since I retired I'm not up on all the meds but it sounds to me like your med isn't depressing the formation of red and white cells then...only the platelets which is fantastic. And I'm glad your back is feeling better. Yes bone pain they say is the worst pain but I can tell you from my experience last summer that any serious pain can really get you down. Sometimes I wonder how my dh makes it thru each day in all the pain he has and it sounds like you have to sometimes wonder how you'll get thru this back and hip pain.
I did a very little bit of crocheting on my seahorse before I left for shopping and haven't got back to it yet.

Wow, its been a busy day here.
Ruth, glad you got to some work on the seahorse, hope that some time this evening life settles down a bit and you can work on it some more.
Phyl- that is awesome news that your medication is working so well!! Congrats on the new dishwasher. I hope it works really well for you.
CJ- good news that you worked on the solstice quilt a bit! Wish I could see the project when you get all 25 blocks put together....and I am also struggling with out of control eating. Lets hope we can keep each other accountable and get back on track.
Busy day, tomorrow is crazy too. I started putting the downstairs back together, only a tiny section is damp now. Fans and dehumidifier are running.. all should be back to normal tomorrow morning.
Have a great night all Ginny

I have been home all day as it was 105. Even though I have an A/C and fans to circulare the air it still gets hot when I have chores to do. Usually we get a break when we get a breeze from the Sacramento Delta but this year it seems like continuous hot weather. The long range forecast is 100+ through next Tue. Then we will have 1 day at 99 and then more 100+ days. I have not been doing much crafting and instead I have been reading.
Phyl, I am glad you have your test results. I don't always understand my lab results. Sorry your breakfast was not as good as you hoped for. Interesting information about pre rinsing your dishes, I always do and wash on the lite cycle. I will try not rinsing. I do try to buy American when I can. I pray you will be pain free.
Ruth, a sea horse makes me think of the ocean which is where I would like to be at this moment.
cj, well you are not alone getting off track with your eating. I am eating foods I should not be eating and not eating the foods I should be eating. I just don't like to cook anymore. Yesterday was not a good day. I have done better today.
Ginny. are you having problems with water in your house. Some how I missed that. I hope everything is OK now.
Sleep well.

Yes don't get me wrong. I am staying at my weight but certainly not by eating the way I really should.
Ginny, you have so many busy days but I hope they're enjoyable days too.
Phyl, I forgot to comment on your new appliances and planned new ones. Back on the old ww board one of the ladies... I think Lin from AZ bought a speed queen. I would have bought one too if I had known they still sold them. I didn't see any in any of our stores. The way she described it, it's just what I want. I just got this one though about three years ago so probably will have it forever now although the refrigerator I bought at the same time only lasted just over a year. I've had my dryer for a very long time so I keep thinking that I'll soon probably have to buy a new one of those. My dishwasher was really never any good. You pretty much had to wash the dishes before you pot them in so what's the point then is bothering to use the dishwasher if you have to do hand washing anyway. So I got rid of it and just hand wash. With only two people there really aren't enough dishes anyway to warrant running a dishwasher..not at my house. I'm glad you got a new one and it's one you like.
Meg, it sure has been hot there and no relief yet. Cooling down to 99 doesn't seem like much of a reprieve to me. Will you be going to Knit Wits tomorrow? Is Devin looking forward to going back to school? My homeschooled grandchildren haver started their school. Besides the homeschooling they attend and educational coop and they've started to classes there too. They take only two subjects there and at home have a Christian curriculum that they follow

Good morning!
We get the grandkids today for an overnight, so today will be busy. Thought I would check in early in case I do not get here later on.
Meg- oh dear your weather sounds so hot. I wonder the same thing as Ruth, if you will venture out to Knit Wits today. THe local library here is a “cooling center” , an area open with extended hours during heat waves. I hope your library is nice and comfortable- so that if you want a change of scenery you can get out to socialize. Even with AC its hard not to feel that its hot outside. And the body is stressed by the heat.....stay hydrated and take good care of yourself. As far as housework goes, well so much of that can wait till cooler weather. Just do not want you to over do things and suffer becasue of that.
Ruth, I hear you loud and clear about dishwashers!!! My present one only cleans dishes that are almost spotless going in. Hmmmmm.....whats the point then? We bought this one becasue it is known for low water useage and its quiet. I will agree with both, but it does a lousy job cleaning dishes. I will go back to a whirlpool when this dishwasher must be replaced.
Indeed days are busy. Yesterday I could have stayed home and done what I wanted, but I am glad that I went with Dh to pick up Dd#2 from her GRE test. We shared the hour car ride together and the time coming back with Dd. Dd is heading to the shore tomorrow morning- her bf and his family rent a large house there each year. So I will not see her next week. (: It was good to spend time with her last night. And today we get the grandkids. I have to get the family room back together (almost done with that!) after the small amount of water we got. Considering all the very heavy rain we got, I consider myself blessed. If I get any crafting in today, it will be making crocodiles out of craft sticks (tongue depressors) with DGD and DGS. Guess that counts, eh?
Have an awesome day. Ginny

Good morning all. It's still morning here in the wild west. It's much cooler here today so far.
My ds and ddil have a Bosch dishwasher. All they do is scape off any scraps...the kids all do it automatically...put the dishes in and that diswasher gets everything perfectly clean. They need a dishwasher that works well with a family that large. It was expensive I think but he got a military discount and it was sure worth whatever it cost. They assign one of the kids to empty the dishwasher every morning and put everything away.It would take me a week or more to have enough dishes to warrant using a dishwasher and by that time the dirty dishes would drive me crazy and I'd have to take them out and wash them anyway.
Never did get back to any crafting yesterday so maybe today although I am going to bake some things since it's cool.I got some sauce made last evening to make a lasagna and will make dh a carrot cake and freeze half of each of those...well if I can find room in the freezer after yesterday's shopping trip.
I hope you all have a fantastic day. and Ginny, yes any crafting counts even making crocodiles or as my son's oldest used to call them...croc o die lows.

My dishwasher is also a bosch-it gets high marks for low water usage and being very quiet. But my old whirlpool did a much better job of cleaning dishes.
Hope you can sneak in some crafting time Ruth! Love the croc o die lows...those silly pronunciations our kids come up with when little are hysterical.
Hi to CJ, Phyl and Meg Ginny

Hello Crafters
Phyl - I'm glad you are starting to improve, but sorry to hear about your pain. Sounds like you have some interesting projects to work on.
Meg - I hope that you are safe and the fires are not near where you live. Your weather sounds so hot, I hope you get some relief soon.
Ruth - I think you should have only had to pay 99 cents for those blueberries too. Sorry you didn't get any. I'm glad for you that you are motivated to stay at your low weight, I need to get back into that mindset.
Ginny - I hope those crocodiles turned out well, I'm sure the kids enjoyed making them. I'm glad your room is drying out and hopefully it will be all dry soon. I forgot to answer your question from a few days ago about bacon. I buy the Oscar Meyer fully cooked bacon. There are about 12 slices in the package and you can just microwave however many you need at a time. This works for me since I don't really care for turkey bacon or the reduced fat bacon.
I went to my monthly lunch today and had a delicious bowl of Cream of Crab soup. This small family owned restaurant has really good food and my favorite version of this soup so I get it every time I go here. I also had a French bread style pizza and it was good.
It's still warm here but not as hot and not as humid either.
I don't have a dishwasher and don't want one. The last time my kitchen was remodeled, over 20 years ago, I had them remove the dishwasher (which was broken) and put in a cabinet and space for my microwave. That has worked better for me and I figure whoever lives here after me will remodel the kitchen anyway and they can add it back then.
I'm spending some serious time thinking about how I need to eat to get back to the weight I want to be and to have a plan that I can live with. I thought about rejoined WW but I really don't think their current plan will work for me since I don't like to eat eggs and beans/legumes. There are also limited vegetables and fruits I like, so I don't think I'll get the benefit of the free foods if I was on this plan.
I haven't gotten back to the quilt, but hopefully will soon, maybe this weekend.
Take care everyone!

CJ, I was thinking of Meg also. I think one of the ladies that I used to be on the journaling thread with on the old WW board lived in REdding before she moved. Also I'm with you on the bacon. I tried turkey bacon but I thought it was terrible. I've never had cream of crab soup. I'm not much of a seafood eater but I do like the crab wontons they have at the Chinese restaurants. And that's what I did too was take out the dishwasher and make storage space in that spot. It's much more useful to me than a dishwasher. So it sounds as if the quilt top you spoke of yesterday is very large. Is that right that it's 60 inches with just the blocks?
Ginny, I guess my son and dil were just lucky then because their Bosch works great. I don't even know if they still have it though. I would think so because they only moved into that house 10 years ago and got it when they moved in. Of course, as I said, it sure gets plenty of use.
I got all my cooking and baking done but haven't done any crafting yet today except to look at patterns that popped up.

Another hot day temp is 104 and the same forecast for Sat. I didn't go to Knit Wits today as I didn't feel like going out in the heat. I haven't been doing any crafting and spent some time reading which is what I will do this evening.
Ruth, Devin will go to school mid August but I haven't heard him express whether is happy about it or not. My church will have a week of Vacation Bible School at the beginning of August and I would like him to go to that. I will be glad when he goes back to school but not because he is a problem but he needs to be with other kids. Your DGKs are lucky that they are home schooled I think it would take a lot of discipline by both parents and kids. I do know a family and they home schooled all8 kids and they were great kids. Very well behaved.
BTW I have never heard of a Bosh dish washer. I will have to remember when I need a new dishwasher. I have a GE which I have had for years. Is the Bosh made in the USA ?
Ginny, the library here had goo A/C and A lot of homeless people stop in there when it is wet and cold and also in the summer when it is really hot. I just didn't want to be out in the heat if I didn't need to be outside. There is smoke haze in the air from the fires which are further north but the wind blows in this direction. I don't know close to the fires. I live a long way from Redding and it does get hot there. I guess the fires there are really bad.
I hope you will be dried out soon.
cj, cream of crab soup sounds good. I like sea food. I can see why you don't need a dishwasher. I don't mind washing dishes but my family use a lot of dishes.
Now I am off to read.

Meg, when you have a family as you and Ginny do a dishwasher is pretty much needed. When there's only one or two as CJ and I have it's just easier to just wash the few you have after each meal or two. Yes it probably is good for Devin to be with other children. My dgc do see other children at their coop and at church and at the activities the coop and church have plus they have each other...all 8 of them so it's not like with Devin where he's the only child. It would be good for him to go to VBS too for that week. He'd get used to being with other children again before school starts. I'm glad you aren't close to those fires. It's bad enough that all that smoke still is carried to your area by the wind. We've had the same here where the fires aren't close but we still get smoke from them. I'm sorry you had to miss Knit Wits but it's probably best that you didn't go out in all the heat. We have a lot of homeless people that spend their time in our library to. I haven't been to the library in at least two years but when I did go last they had security guards and I was wondering if it was because of the homeless. I didn't see very many there that day. Once back in 2003 one of my brothers was here visiting. It was so hot that year that that's what we did was go to the library to take advantage of their aC. We also went to a movie for the same reason
See you all tomorrw
