Happy new week everyone. Ginny thanks for always be so diligent in starting us again.
I forgot to mention that I did read over the pattern for the Christmas tree skirt and I'm glad I did. It sounds complicated so I really need to get started so that if there's a problem I can change to a different pattern if needed. It uses something they call the brick stitch which I've never done. The other issue is that I don't see any directions that indicate how it end up round. I do already have another pattern in my list that will work fine if this one doesn't work out but this is the one that my ddil told me that my ds likes best so I'll do my best. Who know, I may be surprised.
I did do a bunch of finishing work yesterday but the manta ray was my biggest accomplishment. Later last evening I started and am almost done with actually something for myself! I'm making a case to carry some of my crochet equipment back and forth from upstairs to downstair when I change working locations. It will hold just a couple yarn needles, some stitch markers, scissors, and the crochet hooks that are the sizes that I use most often. The pattern doesn't mention hooks being put in it but there's no reason you couldn't do that.OH and a tape measure. The pocket that designated as the scissors pocket could be used to hold a copy of your pattern. It's a great size, about like a small clutch purse and could actually be used for a lot of things esp with some small revisions such as seaming one side of the part she has designated as the needle holder and using it also as a pocket instead of having it open on both sides as the pattern currently calls for.
Have a great day everyone

Gee, I thought I got here yesterday after start up!!! Opps.....so sorry I did not.....
Got the grandkids Friday night. Gotta come up with some good crafting ideas for a 3 year old and a 5 year old. I did go thru some crafting supplies I had here to see what I could conjure up.
Ruth, well I never heard of a brick stitch either! Practice it....I know you will get it! But agree its a large project- so best to start early so the tree skirt can be done by Christmas.

Hello Crafters - Hoe you are all doing well today Ruth - I was looking at a quilting blog this weekend and they had a little crocheted rooster - it was cute. That crafting case sounds useful. Ginny - Hope you are enjoying the grandkids. It's always fun to do crafts with the little one. Meg and Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting in. Its been rainy and humid here for days. Looks like we have a few more days and then it breaks up. I think I'll take this over the really hot days. I made a few 2 Ingredient Bagels this morning and added cinnamon and raisins in them. They were good. I'm glad I found that recipe. It's a quick way to make something that isn't high in fat, and you get the protein from the yogurt. I haven't been doing any crafting, but do check out a bunch of quilting blogs and message boards each day. Take care everyone!

Good morning Ginny and all the others. I see we have lots of views already even though there were only the two posts
Yes I think I need to start small with the practice piece. The pattern also has choices for differect widths. Of course you could always make it larger or smaller without the pattern designer giving you that choice because in this pattern it's just a matter or adding more rows.
Oh and speaking of Christmas tree skirts, Ginny did you ever get back and do that little finishing on the one you made for your dd last year. I think you said you had just a small piece of binding that needed to be added.
Hot here today but I might do some of the prep work in getting the bedroom ready for painting. I'm not sure of that though. I think it will be cooler tomorrow so I might do it then instead.I don't want to have to have fans and a/c on because it will blow the dust around. We have a drop ceiling, which I dislike but what can you do...and where the panels sit in the grids, dust collects. We did change ceilings in a couple of the rooms downstairs but neither of us could do it now.
Last night I worked on the baby blanket and found that I had a mistake on the previous row again so most of my work was in just redoing those two rows that I had to take out but I did go on to a little bit more. Good thing there are no babies waiting for this blanket...not that I know of anyway. It was too late at night to be starting to practice on that brick stitch.I did get an octopus made but have to sew on his tentacles...they're make in one piece in a ring so that doesn't take long.
Ginny there sure are a lot of sites online that have some really nice children's craft ideas. I hope you find some appropriate for the ages of your grands.
I do hope that all of you are having a good day.

Good evening!
CJ- we have the same humid but breezy weather here also. Agreed, its better than 95 degrees, and I hate to complain.....its so darned muggy. hope you are able to stay comfortable. THink you were the person who discovered those 2 ingredient bagels.....which are pretty amazing. I have made them in a toaster oven to avoid heating up the whole kitchen...anything to stay cool.
Ruth- I know you will figure out that tree skirt....size and new stitches and all. Were you able to complete that octopus?? Bet it felt awfully good to get the mistakes out of that baby afghan. It sure can nag you to know that there is a mistake somewhere and not know for sure how much ripping out to do.
Dd stopped by with the grandkids. The baby had a routine check up - and the doctors office was running behind so I had them for about 3 hours....therefore I got nothing done today. Gonna head out for my walk soon- its still humid and warm. At least there is a breeze. Perhaps tonight I can crochet a little bit.
Hi to Phyl and Meg Ginny

CJ, It happens so often that when I go to post there is not post from you then later when I come back there's one back there. Same happened just now. Your's is before mine and Ginny's and I just now saw it. I still haven't make the 2 ingredient bagels. I used the dough for those calzones and I used them for one other thing which I can't think of now but I do remember they didn't come out right with those...oh I remember now... I was trying to make sticky buns with them. That was a huge failure.
Ginny, you've been having lots of grandchild time lately. I hope you enjoyed their company. Kids can be so much fun but they also can be exhausting at times.
Yes I did finish the octo. Doesn't take long to sew on that little circle. But I did start a starfish which I thought would be really easy. Well this turned out to be the most complicated and time consuming pattern I've made in a long time and I still have four more star points to make. I don't even know why I'm bothering to finish it but it's a challenge so I might keep on working on it IF this second star that I'm in the process of making now turns out the same as the first star.I might just set it aside for another day and try that brick stitch.
Ginny, enjoy your walk. I really need to get back to walking.I don't know if I could even survive in humid weather again. I'm just not used to humidity.
CJ, enjoy those bagels. I'd try making some but it's too hot to turn on the oven. I do have a toaster oven but it's a cheapie from WAlmart and nearly burned down the house when we tried it out. I don't think you could have it on long enough to bake anything.I think dh used to use it for heating pizza but only if he was standing right there to make sure it didn't overheat.I keep thinking of tossing it then remember that my garbage company won't take it because of the electronics

It is still hot this evening I just went out to the garage and it really hot out there and the side door has been open all day. It was at least 102 today and the forecast is for 106 on Wes & Thur. So I will be staying home as much as I can. I haven't been anywhere today and am going to bed soon. I have been working on my b/blankets but have not got a lot done. I will read myself to sleep.
Take care everyone and stay cool if you can.

Meg, I will not complain about my weather hearing about your temperatures. Stay in.....stay safe and cool. Think reading yourself to sleep is an excellent idea- it sure beats most anything on television! Hope that this weather breaks a little bit, so that you can get to knit wits at the end of the week if you like.
No crafting for me yesterday. Had to attempt to straighten out a computer glitch- actually an issue with paypal. I created a separate paypal account for my mom (I was ordering groceries for her from my home to have them delivered to her home and desired a separate account as I was POA). Now to make any changes to that account- or even to close it out I have to submit a mountain of paper work. I will continue on that endeavor today- not happily but its something I have to resolve. G

Good morning all. It's still morning here.
Meg, it's good to see you. Yes it sure is hot where you live. Even if it is a dry heat, it's still too hot. I used to read often before bed and would even start falling asleep while sitting but them when I actually got into bed couldn't get to sleep after all.
Ginny, I've never used paypal. I think I opened an account with them once but never used it.
Well I did finish that starfish last evening but that sure is a pattern I'll never be using again. They take something that should be very simple and make it very complicated. It's even hard figuring out what she's trying to say. One example of how strange the wording is, and maybe it's just me but she says "sc2, dec, repeat twice". Well there's only enough stitches to do it once and repeat once...not twice. And she does this in several rows. There are other weird phrasings also.
I did look up brick stitch on youtube but that wasn't any help because what they were talking about was actually block stitch not the brick stitch that's in the tree skirt. So I found a picture tutorial (which I like better anyway) and it explained things better than the pictures that came with the pattern. I'm pretty sure I can do it now ok but I'm still puzzled about what makes the turns. The whole thing is like a large hexagon and I'm wondering what makes the corners. I'm going to start a small one and see what happens. I've wanted to make something for my very small Christmas tree anyway. Now to email ds or ddil and find out how wide they want the skirt.
I think it's going to be hotter today than was forecast although it's almost noon and it's only 73 degrees but I did hear it's to get up close to 90. I won't complain though...it's not over 100 like it is in Meg's area.

Good afternoon!!
Ruth, so glad you found decent instructions on how to make the brick stitch- and in a format that you can work with. Sometimes those. Youtubes are difficult to sit through or the person just does not do a good job of explaining. The picture tutorial I can imagine has to go step by step and sort of freeze frame things- which is easier for me also. Best of luck- I am so sure you will do just fine with this project!! Indeed it stinks when online directions are not well put together, like the starfish. There is an art to creating directions that most of the world can follow. Frequently the writer takes some basic knowledge for granted...and neglects to put that information in. Writing directions is more difficult than it seems....its an art.
In my estimation, I wasted 2 1/2 hours straightening up the paypal situation and its still not fixed but I can live with it for now. After being on hold for 20 minutes a young man helped me repair the siituation- for now. I am very very thankful for his assistance. It was slightly annoying that Dh (actually he had me seething last night) shifted into his “I do not care”mode, knowing that he left me with the problem to fix becasue he did not have the patience to do it himself. Yes, he knew of my frustration- now I am just very thankful that the Lord helped me find a person to assist and get me through the situation.
Perhaps I can crochet tonight. I did help Dd find some craft supplies so that she could take some crafting ideas to the kids she is babysitting for today. Guess that counts, right?
Hi to Meg, Phyl and CJ- Ginny

Yes the Lord is good and often gives us that person we need just when we need them. I'm glad you got the problem somewhat straighted out. And yes I am grateful for the patterns that are available. I couldn't write one myself I don't think. It would be a challenge. And you're right about the basics. Sometimes the designer of a pattern assumes that the person looking at the pattern has basic skills and you can, a lot of times, see that some of the people reading that pattern have no clue at all about how to do even the most basic of crochet. You would have to have a lot of patience to respond to some of the comments that I see. Well my plan to clean the grids holding up the ceiling panels didn't work at all. I even got a ladder and got up there and tried to clean them by hand and that didn't work either because well the whole ceiling just really needs to be replaced so I'm going to go to plan B as soon as I figure out what plan B is. Can't paint them with a roller because when putting the pressure on them to apply the paint the panels would just lift up. Ginny, yes helping your dd find crafts and supplies is definitely on our list of activities that constitute crafting Ok I'm going back to crafting. I'm going to make a seahorse today then we'll see what follows. Tomorrow will be shopping day.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get the PayPal mess worked out, but I'm sure it was frustrating. I had an account with them years ago and someone hacked it so I closed it and never set up another one. That's a good idea to make the bagels in the toaster oven. They are good - but the only "bad" thing for me is that I like to add some margarine (or I Can't Believe It's Not Butter) to mine and some preserves or cinnamon sugar - so it does up the calories Ruth - Hope you are careful getting on and off the ladder - sorry you couldn't just clean the ceiling and that you can figure something else out. I bet that seahorse will be so cute. You should put all of the sea creatures together when you're done and take a picture of them Meg - It is so hot out there, I feel for you! I'm glad you are getting some reading in. Phyl - Hope you are doing well and doing some crafting. It is cooler here today, only around 80 but still very humid. I'm lucky to have missed a lot of the really heavy rains that have been in the area. Some of the flooding looks terrible. I went to a farm market today and picked up some peaches and tomatoes. I'm ripening the peaches in a paper bag and hopefully they'll be good. I'd like to use a tomato for a BLT. This market also has a bakery and they sell single slices of pie so I bought a Strawberry Rhubarb piece and it was good. I haven't been doing any crafting. I think it's just so hot in the Summer that I don't have a lot of energy for it. Take care everyone!

I am just taking a quick look at your posts. It was 106 today. I made quick trip to the grocery and I stayed indoors the rest of the day. It is comfortable inside and I have a good A/C. I have been reading a lot and no crafting today.
Take care everyone and stay cool.

Kudos to you CJ for buying a single piece of pie!!!! You show a lot of resserve and good planning for staying on program. (I have had little luck with that recently). And if you enjoy a little bit of margarine on those bagels, again, know you can have anything on WW- just have to account for it and work it into your day. So glad you got to the farmers market. Equally glad that you are not in an area that got flooding. These rains are so severe- I feel awful for those who are facing flooding. Hey for your BLT- do you use real bacon or turkey bacon? Just curious. CJ- have you ever done cinnamon sugar with truvia? I like truvia- for foods like that it might work well.
Ruth, I agree with CJ that it would be so cute to take a picture of your entire zoo... Must have been very frustrating not being able to do what you wanted with the ceiling. I am sure that you and Dh will have to decide how to repair/refurbish the ceiling. It would sure be nice if an economical but effective solution could be found. Houses are not cheap...How did your seahorse turn out? Hope todays shopping trip goes well.
Meg, glad you checked in....stay cool....is there any relief from this heat precidted for you?
Phyl- hope you are doing well and feeling good.
Well, last night brought super heavy rains- our gutters could not handle it. We did get a small amount of water in downstairs- so I have the dehumidifier running with some fans. I should be albe to put the room back together tomorrow (possibly tonight but I want to be absolutely sure its totally dry first so I will wait another day). I need that room as that is where DGD and DGS will be sleeping on Friday night.
As hard as it rained last night, the sun is out today at least for a few hours. I will be heading out later on with Dh and get to a craft store- for supplies for crafting with DGD and DGS tomorrow.
Have a great day all Ginny
