1811 In the Mississippi River Valley near New Madrid, Missouri, the greatest series of earthquakes in U.S. history begins when a quake of an estimated 8.6 magnitude on the Richter scale slams the region. Although the earthquake greatly altered the topography of the region, the area was only sparsely inhabited at the time, and there were no known human fatalities.
The earthquake raised and lowered parts of the Mississippi Valley by as much as 15 feet and changed the course of the Mississippi River. At one point, the Mississippi momentarily reversed its direction, giving rise to Reelfoot Lake in northwest Tennessee ---------------- The early 20th century saw Americans decorating their trees mainly with homemade ornaments, while the German-American sect continued to use apples, nuts, and marzipan cookies. Popcorn joined in after being dyed bright colors and interlaced with berries and nuts. Electricity brought about Christmas lights, making it possible for Christmas trees to glow for days on end. With this, Christmas trees began to appear in town squares across the country and having a Christmas tree in the home became an American tradition.

Good Morning Holly Jolly Folks, Kathie, were you signed in. If you are it says Logout beside your name in the upper right.
Running slow this morning. Up getting rid of fluid retention. It always takes about a week. My last high sodium was Mexican food Saturday and the take home Sunday afternoon. Completed 4 days on my lower calorie eating plan. 4 smilies for me.
Well, I tried to help y'all with putting a picture on here. Even posted a site for Molly to go to since she does not have a mouse. Go back and read and see if it helps ya.
Chance of that stuff tomorrow night. Today 45 to 70 overcast windy. Tomorrow night down to 17. Going to town today. Betty stayed out last night and is in now. I am going to move her stuff off the back porch and in because there is no heat out there. I hate the litter box inside.
Camping friend called yesterday and said I did not miss a thing. She came home Wednesday. Too cold even for her to enjoy it. We believe camping means doing things outside. She said she was not going again till spring.
Have a great Friday everyone. KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS LUCY

Good Morning Lucy and Holly Jollies,
This morning it was 21º (feels like 10º) and cloudy and going up to 28º and with a wintry mix becoming lighter in the afternoon with winds E 10-15 mph. We have a winter weather advisory from 9:00 AM Friday until 6:00 PM Saturday. The huge snowball in the front yard is still the same and there are a few patches of snow left in the back yard.
Rachael had a doctor’s appointment yesterday morning and her temperature was 102º. The first thing he said was that it looked like either pneumonia or flu. He tested her for flu first and it came out positive so she is on Tamiflu. He also called in Tamiflu prescriptions for the rest of the family to be held at the pharmacy in case they are needed. I hope Rachael will be feeling better quickly and that no one else gets it. Rachael was worried because she has final exams starting on Monday. The doctor told her she should be feeling a lot better by then.
MJ took Hannah and Sarah to school this morning. Tonight is Sarah’s Christmas program that they are doing with some of the other churches in Lincoln. I’d like to go to Sarah’s program but will stay home with Rachael. Hannah was going to have a couple of girls over to spend the night but that had to be postponed.
Another Japan memory: I remember coming down with flu about 50 years ago and I was miserable. Ken who was about 3 or 4 then would stand by my bed just looking at me. I kept getting worse and coughed constantly and Bill finally called the doctor. He wanted to see me and it turned out that I had pneumonia and was admitted to the Seventh Day Adventist Hospital in Tokyo for several days. The nurses brought a bit of color to the hospital by wearing different colored sweaters with their white uniforms. I remember how gently the nurses treated me and would give me a bed bath. My whole rib cage was sore for weeks afterward and I’m glad there are better treatments for flu and pneumonia now. I also remember that when I was in the hospital the nurse would come in and have me hang my head down over the bed and cough to try and get my lungs cleared. More tomorrow.

Hi Lucy and Jolly Ladies,
Just stopping in before I get moving. It's 39 partly cloudy but feels like 32, the high 44. Tomorrow 7 for a high,
This morning I have a hot stone massage waiting for me, then a trip to Ikea, Bed Bath, and Barnes and Noble. After all that I need to get started on a fast and furious wrapping marathon. One gift left and that's in the mail, (should be here tomorrow).
Hope everyone had a good nights sleep.
Lucy, that Betty is definitely an independent cat, and is definitely her own person or should I say cat.
Better get ready to head out, will try to get back later.
Rocky Mountain Christmas Linda

Good morning! Are you ready for cold weather? From the forecast, it looks like we will be in for the weekend. Low is to be 7º sometime Sunday in the wee hours. Today we have light rain and 36º. Feels very cold out there, but we went to breakfast with our friends anyway. We will probably go out to Walgreens a bit later for a few things we need -- meds! We do have a decent pantry -- except flour. Hmmm, I think Walgreens has that, too.
I'm so sorry Rachael has the flu! But that stuff works wonderfully, so she should be good to go. Hope the rest of the family escapes the germs!
Lucy, I wouldn't think going anywhere to camp in the bitter cold would be very much fun. You could always move into your camper right there at home if you park it in your driveway. If you need a hideout for a day or two, would that work?
Wow, Linda, you'll have it pretty cold! Enjoy those hot stones today!
Have a wonderful, jolly day today, ladies!
Diane

Hello, Lucy and all Jollies,
A cold 28 here this morning. Tomorrow will be a very cold morning.
Amazon delivered packages at six-thirty last night. Amazon rocks.
I hope more staff shows up today. I don't see many cars moving up and down the outside road.
Betty should not go dancing on these winter nights.
I'll keep working on pictures. I wanted to show pictures that are on the 'C' drive but doesn't work. I'll go back to internet.
I invited Yvonne here. Hope she finds us sometime.
Health to all. Extra for Trace.

Doris, I am sorry Rachel has the flu. I had it the year my brother next to me passed away. 26 years ago. He was waiting for a kidney and a visitor brought him the flu.
Linda, Betty is definitely her own person. Aren't all cats?
Dianne, when y kids were young we used to tent camp in all kinds of weather year round. My neice is camping now and this weekend, but in a camper not a tent. It will be nice today and OK tomorrow. Sunday will be terrible if they stay. They got there Wednesday and she is going to work from there.
Cat, you will have to upload your pictures to the internet so you can copy the link. Make an album on facebook. If you don't want them up there permanently then delete them after a few days.
Waiting for my diuretic to wear off then I will go to town. Don't wanta go but I am running out of time and today will be a decent weather day.

Well house is picked up and some of it will be back out but didn't want the card Table and all the wrapping stuff out. going to lunch with my friend today. It is 12° but those in the know say Feels like 6° it was below 0 this morning earlier.
Sweeper is run and the feral kitty is now in my bedroom. she has her own litter box and is using it. Brought her in because of the cold temps. she is 21 years old and She and my cats hate each other. So I do keep her separate. she has wicked claws and a temper. She does love me and purrs louder than any cat I have ever owned. She is certainly spoiled these days. the other litter box is in basement and I prefer it there!!
WE are to get snow and then freezing rain if they are right. that will make for some bad driving conditions for awhile but the temps to be 44° tomorrow so the salt should work. I still have some small shopping to do may just wait until Monday. I have had good luck with Amazon. some of it has come with Mail man and some with the FedEX truck. Depends on if the FED EX is going to be in my area or not. My mail man has delivered a couple of big boxes. Fed EX will come later in evening but not the mail man.
The garbage pick up is a bit late today was hoping to be able to catch him for his gift card but not sure I will unless he comes before I leave. they have cut back and only one guy with the truck and know that is lot more work for them than 2 on the truck. they still have to put the dumpster on the lift at back of truck.

Connie, you are such a great Grandmother and Cat Mother. That feral cat is one lucky cat.
The United moving truck is sitting down the hill deciding if it really wants to venture up to the building. I don't blame it. There is continuous moving in and out here.
I might need an early nap.

Connie, what garbage company do you use? Grandson is over the landfill at Iowa Park for IESI, Progressive, or whatever the newest name is. The 17 year old worked there every summer after he turned 15. He won't this coming summer. He said he will be looking for something he can do while going to college, that will pay more that Pizza Hut. He is at Pizza Hut right now. The landfill is only good in the summers. No weekends and no after school time. He would have to come straight home and then only get a couple of hours at most. He is active in school stuff and stays after school a lot.

Guess it's already afternoon. Snowing here and suppose to continue throughout the day and night. Not sure if we'll make it to our Christmas celebration tomorrow. Hate driving if the roads are iffy. DGS said he would come and pick us up but want him to be safe also. I've started making my appetizers to take because I can't leave them until tomorrow morning. Our celebration starts at 11 a.m.
Decided to cancel DH appt at cardiac rehab today. Weather report not good and by the time we're done it's the beginning of rush hour and people are in such a hurry they aren't always too careful. We don't have a rush hour like the big cities but still enough to bother me. We'll just make it up another day.
Don't know if everyone heard that we're getting a puppy in a couple of weeks. It is a Yorkie, a little boy puppy. We are so excited. Been thinking about this ever since our Molly died several years ago. Just never could make up our minds whether to do or not. DD kind of got this ball rolling and they are getting together to give him to us for Christmas.
Time to peel eggs for deviled eggs. Have a good day. bettyj
