Good morning! Phyl, thanks for the start up this week! I was just getting ready to get us going, and saw that you beat me here. Dd and I watched Chesepeake Shores last night, interesting- seems like a nice story line. We both agreed that the episode seemed very intense, they covered a lot of ground trying to get the viewer back into the many story lines. Yes, I think I will watch future episodes....good replacement for HGTV, some of whose shows I was tiring of. I will miss Fixer Upper- I really enjoy Chip and Joanna Gaines, and that they reinforce family values. Dd went to see I can only imagine- she said it was a really good movie, made her cry. Not sure if you know Phyl, but it is a true story. Guess I will have to rent it some day and have a box of tissues nearby. Hot day here.Dh and I are trying to figure out how to get to the darned utility company and accomplish other errands in that area. Its a large utility company, I am a bit surprised at how useless their web site was at resolving my issue Got some crochetting in last night- now I see I need to get busy on that baby afghan,, becasue I have kids hats to make for the grandkids for winter and want to make a bunch of Christmas tree ornaments for Dd. Phyl, thanks for starting us. It's a nice break for Ginny
One of my brothers mentioned that movie and I never looked into it because I just don't watch movies. This one sounds like a good one though. A far cry from what most movies nowdays are.
Not sure what today will hold but probably not much more than a little cooking and cleaning and maybe get back on track with the crocheting.I for sure won't get any Christmas ornaments made if I don't get busy since I have other things that NEED to be made and made before ornaments. I also need to get busy on my winter items to donate before winter gets here. I won't do hats because the Caps for Kids group makes plenty of those so my "thing" will be the mittens and scarf type things as I've mentioned before. I do have some mittens made but not nearly enough and haven't even started on the scarf/cowls yet.So I'll make yet another revised list and get going. I also need to get busy and write some letters. It's amazing the number of people I know that don't have or use computers. I just got a letter the other day from a friend in Arkansas so added her to my list of letters to be written.
Ginny, yes, you have to keep those little heads warm. How about a little cowl to match. They have cute ones for both girls and boys and they don't fall off like a scarf and keep their little necks warm. Plus who doesn't like a cute hat from Grandma. And the ornaments from Herrschners are calling you to make them.

Well I got the parts sewed on my shark and now just have to do the eyes which will only take a minute so I should get to that I went back to the pattern site because I thought I lost of of the tail fins and was going to make another (I found it though). I saw her reply to my comment thanking her for the pattern and telling her how much I appreciated it. I also told her to ignore those that made negative comments...why do people have to do that...being nasty to those that are generous enough that after they go to all that work to design a pattern, make a video, write it out too and share it all free? If they had a question or a suggestion they could do it in a nice way. Anyway she really thanked me for my encouragement and said she was actually thinking of not making any more videos because of those mean comments but my comment and the two before me made her feel a lot better. So now I'm really happy that I took those couple minutes to write that. It doesn't take much time to make someone's day just a little happier.

Hello Everyone It's so hot here, I hope it's not as bad where you all live. I went out and did my grocery shopping today. Once a month or so I go to a town farther away so I can buy some of the yogurts that I like that the local stores don't carry anymore. That's the story of my life - every time I find a food or product that I like, they discontinue it or stop stocking it Chesapeake Shores is based on the novels by Sherryl Woods. I've read all of them so I was excited when the Hallmark Channel made the series. The one that started last night is the start of Season 3. The funny thing about the show is that it's filmed in Canada and the scenery looks nothing like the Chesapeake Bay area But I'm still enjoying the show. Take care everyone!

Not a lot to report from here, I have been staying indoors because the air quality is bad. The ash from the fires is falling on the cars and it looks like dust. It must be horrible for the people in the fire areas so I have nothing to complain about. I have not been crafting but I have been reading a lot. This has been a very hot summer here. We usually get a few days break when we get a breeze from the Sacramento Delta.
phyl, I am glad you found a good movie to watch. I haven't watched a movie for ages though I do watch Poldark on PBS on Sunday evening. I have taken a break from the Poldark books I have read 10 of them and I need to read 11 & 12.
Ruth, I know lots of people who do not use a computer. I would be lost without mine. Though there is a lot I could learn to update my skills. I don't have anyone to write a letter to anymore and it would be nice to receive a letter once in a while by snail mail. Good for you getting your scarves and mittens ready to give away for winter.
cj, It is nice to get your big grocery shopping out of the way and have a good stock of food in the house so that you don't have to run to the store all the time. DS and I did our big shopping on Saturday.
Ginny I used to watch HGTV a lot but haven't watched for ages. I am not very interested in watching TV at the moment.
I am off to relax and read. I've turned into a compulsive reader.
Have a good evening.

Cj, Yes I hate when I find something I really like and find that they have quit selling it or they make it "new and improved" and it no longer tastes the same
Meg, when the mountain behind us had the huge fire there was ash everywhere. Right now we had smoke over the weekend but it wasn't from a fire anywhere near us. They say a strange weather pattern was bringing the smoke from the Calif and Oregon fires here. It wasn't bad but make things look very hazy. There was a firs in the southwestern part of our state but I think it's pretty much contained now.
My little shark is so cute. Dh got up while I was on the second part of my jelly fish so I didn't get him done today like I thought I might.
Meg, it's so cold here in the winter. I hate to see anyone be cold if I can help in some way. I used to be a compulsive reader too. Now I've kind of gotten away from reading novels.
It's been great seeing every one today. Have a good night everybody.

Ruth, I would say that you are a compulsive crafter at the moment. At the moment I am a compulsive reader but I have been a compulsive crafter and I am sure when the weather cools down I will become a compulsive crafter again.
I am sure your shark looks very cute. I wish we could have show and tell here.
Now I am off to bed. Good night.

I know!!!! Don’ t you wish we could have show and tell here?? Would love to see CJ’s quilt tops, Meg’s afghans, Ruths fgs and her menagerie and Phyls felted santas.
Meg, well if you are compulsively reading then you have found a good series of books. May that series be a long one to keep you happy for a long long time. Stay safe, stay inside. Hope these horrible fires end very very soon.
RUth- that shark sure sounds adorable. Do not think I have ever regretted providing positive feedback to someone, ever. Remember that old hymn, “Make me a blessing?” Well that is what you were to that craft designer.
CJ- I too have had that happen- losing a favorite product to the scrap heap.. Whatever happened to WW yogurt, or WW bagels? Both excellent products. Anyway, glad you found your yogurt. Good that you are stocked up for a long time!
Who remembers Room By Room or something like Designing Cents (got close to the name). TUesday nights on HGTV used to be “my night” with both those shows- plus a third. It was great creative viewing providing inspiration for decorating without spending $250,000. Now I would love the Property Brothers or Chip and Joanna Gaines to come redesign our home, but I do not have that kind of cash. So I resort to buying a few new accent pieces from Hobby Lobby. (Did that today) and redecorating with what I have- and some changes in paint color.
Hi to Phyl-
BBL I hope Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today and staying cool.
The weather sure has been hot. I'm glad that I didn't have to go out anywhere today.
I watched the Kid's Baking Show last night and I'm amazed that those kids can make Pate a Choux for eclairs. I made that dough one time and it's not that easy. These kids sure do have some baking skills and I can only imagine how talented they will be as adults.
Take care everyone!

I won't have to worry about him on my death bed. now ironing that is a wholeddifferent ballgame. he had enough doing air force uniforms.
so I missed out on the office gal at the place we do quilting cooking lunch for us. oh well maybe it will help me have a loss at friday's wi.
had I felt better yesterday the cleaning would have gotten done.then I good have gone today. there is alway a reason for not doing something.
I evr figure out how to put a picture on here I will show the sants. phyl

Ginny, I remember Design on a Dime. those people were so creative! Yes I'd love for those people that remake your entire house to come to mine. I always thought it was such a waste on the program where they tore people's homes down completely and rebuilt it completely over. What was that one called again. I really wanted them to go to my friend's house in Arkansas. Now there was a woman who deserved to have a wonderful house. She now has the best possible up there in Heaven. What a woman she was.
Phyl, I'm so sorry you weren't/aren't feeling well. I'm glad to hear that Don was able to do some of the cleaning for you. It sure sounds like the two of you are a great team. We don't iron much but my dh wouldn't want to do that either and the other thing he dislikes is washing dishes Other than that he doesn't mind at all doing work around the house...laundry, vacuuming, he always cleans the toilets
CJ, I'm glad too that you didn't have to go out today with it being so hot.I didn't watch the kids baking show last night but I do have a lot of Chopped episodes recorded so I either have to get busy and watch them or delete.
Meg, I, too hope the fires are soon out It sounds like it's going to take a lot of time though. If the air quality is too bad please don't go out in it and get sick. Ash particles are not good for the lungs.
I didn't get much accomplished today. I did start another pattern for a penguin but when I needed to start another color yarn I would have had to go look for it so I set it aside
Ginny, congrats on getting some home decorating items at HL. They do have some nice things and, of course, THE coupon

Well I haven't gotten a thing done yet today. It's just one of those days. I also didn't accomplish much in the way of crafting yesterday. Last night was helping dh look up some information he wanted
I did realize that I left part of my shark off so have to finish that. I also wanted to make the eyes and the gill lines with back embroidery floss but, although I have a very large bag of floss I didn't have any black so I ordered some and will wait for it to arrive before I do the finishing touches on that and some other things I was planning to do with the black floss
I guess I should try to get myself motivated to accomplish something.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - Hope you enjoy watching those Chopped shows. I'm really enjoying reading about your menagerie of crocheted animals Ginny - I remember those shows you mentioned from the early days of HGTV. Sometimes I miss them, they were a lot less "sensational" and also more sensible. There are few of the remodeling and redesigns I see on the current shows that I would ever want in my house. I've never been one to like the most popular product that is out at the time. Just old fashioned I guess. Meg - I hope the air quality isn't too bad for you, the fires look so terrible. Hope you can stay inside and stay cool. Phyl - I can always find a reason for not doing something too We'll both have to figure out how to post photos so we can show things here. It's hot here again today, in the 90s. I'm just staying inside to stay cool. I've been checking out a bunch of quilt blogs and even watched a crochet tutorial. I have all these ideas in my head of quilts and blankets I want to make, but just can't seem to start working on them. I just have to take advantage of the times I do feel motivated. My sleep is so messed up now that I'm retired. I have at least one or two nights a week where I can't get to sleep until 1:00-2:00 A.M., and then sleep until 9:00 A.M., with a few times waking up in between. I never appreciated how deeply I used to sleep when I was younger, but I sure do now. The new weekly block for Pat Sloan's Christmas sew-along is up (a nice Log Cabin block), here's a link if you want to see the early blocks. Check back in a few days and I'm sure there will be a lot more: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2018/08/merry-bright-sew-along-block-3.htmlTake care everyone!
