CJ, it's great to see you. I'm glad you're able to stay in out of the heat. I love long cabin squares. I think my favorite in those shown so far is #6 although I don't know that the pink swirly fabric was a good choice. I love the wreath squares too. I need to go back and look at all of them since I haven't seen them all yet.I used to be able to sleep like a log too. I guess it must be something that just happens as we get older because I have a horrible time getting to sleep. Phyl mentioned she woke early and couldn't be back to sleep. I don't have that problem. Mine is in getting to sleep in the first place.

GOod evening!
CJ- thanks again for posting the link for Pat Sloans Christmas sew along. Think I like #31, 8 and 7....best. For some of the quilters I am sure they are using what they have, and I marvel at how they make it work! Its an inspiration to all of us. Thanks for posting. I do think that when things cool down a bit, the thought of playing with fuzzy yarn and fabric will have a greater appeal. Each of us knows here how inspired you become and can really get a lot done when you set your mind to it. For now, its a season to get inspiration and look at all the beautiful work that others have done. I agree with you on the modern decorating shows. THey seem to be done with the assumption that noone has a picture of piece of furniture from their family that they might want included- so everything is non personal and super modern. Sure the rooms look nice- but lack the human touch.
Ruth, hope that your black floss arrives quickly so that you can finish that killer shark! Guess that shark cannot harm too many folks out there as it is missing gill lines and eyes, so it cannot see its victims! Its a safer world that way. Hope you appreciate my stupid humor. You got it! Design on a DIme and the other show was Decorating Cents. (Joan Steffends hosted Design on a DIme). Think one show had a $500 decorating budget- a realistic amount of money in my book instead of these thousand of dollars total remakes.

OK so this silly site lost my post....
Phyl- so sorry to hear you are not feeling well and are in pain. I hope it passes quickly...and how sweet that Don helps out cleaning. Does he give lessons to other men? (Ha ha ha). Yes, of course we would love to see pics of the santas- and each of us understands the difficulty of loading a picture to the site. What will you be working on next?
This is the second day in a row that I got up early and went for a walk. That is my old routine and I am finding it seems to help...despite it being so warm I have slept fairly well both nights.Of course having another bladder infection (went to the doctor today about that) probably also makes me tired and sleep better. In as much as I am a type A personality and am task driven, I think having some structure to my days might be a good idea.
So today Dh and I went to the food store, and then Dd and her Bf were here for lunch. We got to know her Bf a bit better. He seems like a good Christian young man. In the doctors waiting room I did get some crochetting done, yay!!
Guess I will sign off. Meg, hope you are safe and enjoying a really really great book. By any chance are you voting in the Great American Read? If you google that, think the web site is through PBS.org, you can every day vote for your favorite book from those listed. Its kind of fun and. I cannot wait to see the results.
Have a good day all Ginny

Hello everyone, another hot day. I did make a quick trip to the store and mailed a letter. Even though I am indoors the smoke still finds its way into the house and it makes me cough and sneeze and irritates my eyes. But it must be horrible for the fire fighters and people living closer to the fires.
I have not done any crafting for several days but I will get to it when it is a little cooler. I did go out to dinner last evening. We went to sizzlers with friends. This has been a weekly outing but DS's hours change so we wont be able to go for awhile.
Ruth, My one attempt at quilting was the log cabin design. I never finished it and I gave it away. That was years ago. At that time I had kids here and it was not easy to sew. so I took up crocheting.
cj, sorry you have trouble sleeping. I think it happens as we get older. Most nights I sleep I do take some Melatonin, it was recommended by the pharmacist.
Phyl, sorry you have back pain when you are trying to sleep. At one time I couldn't sleep and the only place I could sleep was in my recliner. My Dr. gave me Nortriptoline which really helped . At the moment I am weaning off it.
Ginny, sorry you have a bladder infection and hope you don't start having them frequently. I am taking several probotics and though I had been taking cranberry soft gels I now drink more cranberry juice and I haven't had a UTI for quite awhile. Actually medically I have been doing very well for several months. I guess UTIs are part of growing older.
Devin has discovered Harry Potter and he is watching the movie.
I wish you all a good nights sleep.

Ginny, the part of the shark I forgot was the piece that's to be sewn on the bottom to form the mouth so between no mouth and no eyes, everyone is safe for now.Sorry to hear you have another UTI It's good you took care of it right away.Having a routine is probably good for all of us and exercise definitely is supposed to help us sleep better. I need to get back to that but after I get everything else done i forget about exercise.
Meg. I forgot that my doctor had given me nortriptyline for sleeping at one time. Melatonin doesn't work for me so maybe I'll ask my doctor about nortriptyline again. It would be good for my IC too and keep a flare up at bay.I'm glad you haven't had any UTI's lately Last time was pretty serious. We used to go to Sizzler a lot back in NY. Well not really a lot but we did go many times, We don't have one here.Sorry the bad air is even affecting you inside the house.

Good afternoon!
Meg, watched the news this am and then shortly thereafter prayed for your state. So much heat, plus the fires. I pray that cooler weather and some welcome rain are just around the corner. Gee, I have not been to a Sizzler in about 10 years. I remember them being great for hanging out with friends and family- no rush to leave and for the price the food is pretty good. Hope you enjoyed your dinner out with friends. So, Devin got into the Harry Potter series! Does he read?? Perhaps reading the books first will make the movies more meaningful for him. Glad that your health has been good for several months! Lets pray that continues for a long long time.
Ruth- thanks for the heads up, that it is safe and I will not be eaten by your shark. Ha ha ha. When is your DMC thread due to arrive, perhaps I will start worrying then.
Well, got a little bit of crochetting done this am. Chatted with Dh and Dd for a while....then I worked on painting the trim in the bedroom. That will take 2 coats. I feel pretty good today, the antibiotic I am on has some sort of pain relief in it. And I am taking cranberry tablets- hopefully will be able to avoid future issues.
Have a great night. GInny

Hello everyone. It's a nice but hot day here today. It always cools down during the night but you'd never know because the house is always still hot even though we leave windows open and sometimes even leave a fan on
Ginny, be on the alert. The floss is to arrive Monday and the shark will have eyes and a mouth.
I'm glad you're feeling better today Ginny and that the antibiotic is doing it's job.
I finished my cute little penguin today. I used a pattern that is supposed to be a tiny penguin for on a keychain but I used a larger hook and ww yarn and it came out a wonderful size. Of course you know what's missing...yes the eyes. I have a pattern for a crab so maybe I'll do that next.I'd like to do a killer whale but really don't feel like doing another animal like that right now. It's awhile until the little guys birthday so I have time later to do more animals and fish after I do some things for the others....dgd and the Christmas tree skirt.I need to get the skirt done and there before Thanksgiving because in one of the letters I got from one of the girls last year she mentioned how excited she was because they put up their tree early.
I'm fairly sure we'll go shopping tomorrow. I need to get carrots and powdered sugar to make dh a carrot cake for his birthday which is Monday. And of course we'll probably come home with a whole bunch of bags to carry in and put away.
Today my oldest living brother sent me pictures of his face and wanted me to diagnose his rash. Guess he doesn't remember that even doctors seeing you in person can't very often diagnose a problem just by looking at you. It's hard to believe he looks like he does in the pictures. I haven't seen him in awhile but he looks very old and wrinkled in the pictures. Men usually age better.

Hello Crafters
Meg - I'm sorry to hear the smoke is bothering you, these fires are just awful. I hope it will get better for you soon. We don't have Sizzler's around here but I used to love to go to the old Ponderosa Steak House (I guess they're gone now) and I like Golden Corral but don't get to go there very often. I liked the early Harry Potter movies, so I'm sure Devin is just about the right age. The later movies were a lot "darker" but I realize that was all part of the story line.
Ginny - I'm sorry to hear you have another bladder infection, hope it clears up soon. I remember my mother used to get those a lot and she always kept cranberry juice in the house (that was back in the 1970s). That's nice that you've been able to get up and take a walk. I'd love to have a safe place to go walking, but there are none around where I live. Yeah for getting some crocheting done.
I agree about those house design and remodel budgets. I'm always shocked to see someone spend 1000s of dollars on things I wouldn't spend $10 for
Phyl - I'm glad you are feeling better. I'm going to test and see if I can attach the pdf file for the blocks from Pat Sloan and you make just be able to click on them and print them.
Ruth - All of your animals sound so cute, I hope you put them all together when you're done and take a picture. The crabs would sell here in Maryland, since it's something the state is known for Hope your carrot cake comes out well. I have an confession to make, I've never tried carrot cake! I really need to try a bit of one sometime when I can just get a small piece. I don't like nuts and that has always stopped me from trying it.
It's very hot here again today, in the high 90s for awhile. I didn't have to go out anywhere so I've stayed home and have been reading some. I'm almost finished with a book that has a bit of a mystery in it so I'll be interested to see how it turns out.
The guy that mows my lawn was here today, so the yard looks really nice. It's a large 2/3 acre lot and most of the grass is zoysia which my father worked on for years. It's a beautiful thick green grass in the Summer and then it turns tan/light brown and straw-like in the Winter.
Take care everyone!

Phyl, I tried CJ's links and at first it said blank but in just a couple seconds they opened right up for me.
CJ I ended up making a lobster so maybe they woulld be more popular in Maine than Maryland. I probably won't go back and make a crab anytime soon but if my dgs really loves the ones I send him I'll make him more and a crab would be included in that. Sorry you don't have a safe place to walk. one of the ladies on over 60's has a "track" set up in her house for when the weather isn't conducive to walking outdoors and she listens to an audio book while walking to avert boredom
I got my lobster done. He's pretty cute for a lobster. If I had thought about making these little animals a year ago I woulldn't have thought I could do it. It's pretty nice to accomplish things you think you may not be able to do. As they say, you never know till you try...and they should add "and try and try again"

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - I'm sorry the links didn't work for you. You do have to have Adobe Acrobat installed on your computer to open those pdf files, so I'm not sure if that's the problem or it is just Firefox. I used Internet Explorer most of the time and I just tried clicking on the links I posted and the pattern pops right up. It's a hot day here today, so I'm staying inside. We're supposed to get some cooler (in the 80s) weather in the next few days. I went through some of my fabric last night before I went to bed and came up with some pieces that I'd bought at quilt shows (at the guild tables) that I really don't care for so I'll pass them along to my sister-in-law who quilts. I found a nice purple fabric I'm going to use to put a border around the small gingham 12 inch block I made. I also decided I'm not going to use a brown fabric to put a border around those 25 Solstice quilt blocks. The color was too dark and when I looked at it laying on my table all I saw was the brown and not the block. I'm going to look for a dark rust fabric that will go much better with the colors of the other fabrics in the quilts. Take care everyone!
