I was slow getting started today. It's very hot out and all I've done really is water my plants. My neighbor, bless his heart, mowed some of our yard this morning and I'm very grateful. I never know how to thank him for his help so this time I'm going to make some hotpads, potholders and dishcloths for their kitchen I started the thermostitch hotpad a little while ago and hope to get it and one of the smaller potholders today. Last night I practiced the no chain hdc foundation stitch as the woman that designed the Christmas tree skirt said it made a nice edge. Well her tutorial was really great but mine looked terrible so I ditched that and just made a chain and a row of hdc's instead. Sure looks better than my chainless one. I guess I need practice but just don't have the time right now.
CJ, it sure sounds like you have a great eye for color and can see exactly what ones go together well for a quilt.I went thru my fabric awhile ago and put a lot in bags for GW.Sometimes we just need to part with some things esp those we really don't care for.I hope you're having a great day
Ginny, Meg and Phyl, I hope all of you are having a great one also. I'm looking forward to seeing your posts later

Ok so lets see how my poor memory goes bringing information back from yesterdays posts....
CJ- yes 2/3 an acre is a lot to maintain for one person. Glad you have someone to do that for you, especially in this heat. Zoyshia grass is nice, looks funky in the winter but in the summer makes a lovely lush lawn. Thanks for posting those pat sloan web pages, it keeps me in the loop with what others are doing when I do not have time to search the web...stay cool. Hey, did you ever resolve your airconditioner issue (drainage problem?).
Ruth, congrats on making a lobster! I can imagine the claws were difficult to execute, but I bet he (or she) looks adorable. What will be funny is the look on DGD’s face when she opens the menagerie! (Hope they use facetime or skype when the critters are opened.) you are one talented woman. Glad you figured out an easier way to start that tree skirt. I well respect the beauty of doing something in a simpler manner. I am sure the tree skirt will look awesome anyway.
Phyl- hope y ou are staying out of trouble.....and that you are feeling well.
Meg, well every time I see coverage on the news about the fires in your state I want to cry. Praying for rain and a change in the weather patterns. This must be so sad for you, seeing areas you have visited ruined- and I do not blame you for not putting the news on.Stay safe.....
Last night we went to see a Beach Boys revival band called Still Surfin”. It was a free concert- my 4th time of seeing this band. They are awesome- sound just like the Beach boys! We went with Dd and friends, had such a good time. CJ- the band hails from the Washingon DC area, if you ever get a chance to see them go. THey are well worth the trip (their web site has their schedule).
Today we went to the fair, the large fair in north Jersey. Took the grandkids and Dd #1 and#2. A hot day, but a good time. As usual the quilt display was lovely......I could not put in for the raffle quilt becasue they were sold out of tickets. It was a magnificent dresden plate quilt....so pretty.
Got a few rows crochetted in the last 2 days.. The honeymoon period is over for this project, and I really want to get it done. That will not be for awhile however.
Have a good night Ginny

Beach Boy music is my king of music...oh and gospel music and country.
Ginny, the claws were actually extremely simple to make. In fact the while lobster was soooo easy and took no time at all.I meant to go back to the original site and mention to the designer that I loved the pattern and was really surprised at how easy it was since it did look complicated.Guess I'll do that now

Ruth, thats a great idea to tell the designer that you enjoyed using her pattern. Far too many do not take that extra step (boy am I guilty of that!).
Rainy here.....they say the entire day will be overshadowed with a chance of showers. Wish I could send these clouds and rain to the West coast. G

well I tried to thank her for the pattern but the comment section was closed.
Yes it would be great if we could send weather to where it's needed. Some areas get no rain at all and some have extreme flooding
Well I really do want to get these kitchen things done for my neighbor. He left two good size zucchini between my screen and regular door this morning. He and dh had talked about our zucchini plants and he said we wouldn't get any actual zucchini because there's no enough light where we have them but actually, as I've mentioned before, we NEVER get zucchini. the plants are really nice though. My tomato plants on the other hand look terrible. They have a lot of tomatoes on them, no new blossoms, and the plants look like it's the end of October....leaves turning all yellow and brown and withering. I probably said this before so if I did I apolgize for repeating myself.
I hope you all have a great day and great weekend.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today It's hot here again, around 90, and very humid. I've been staying in to stay cool. I went out a little while ago to check the mail and it wasn't here yet, I just saw them go and it's almost 6:00 P.M. I'm not complaining because it's nice to have my mail delivered, I just wish it came a little bit earlier While I was outside I checked the fig bush that I have an found a few figs that were ripe so I picked them and ate them, they were good. This bush used to be giagantic, probably 15 feet tall and 10 feet wide with loads of figs. But it just about died during one of the rough Winters. I had it cut down to the ground and then over the last few years it has started coming back and now it's probably 7 feet tall. But the figs that come on it don't always ripen now. I guess because it needs to mature again. My father used to pick the figs and sell them to a local farm market, at least for a few years. And I made loads of fig preserves. Take care everyone!

Another hot day and we probably wont get any rain until October. We are supposed to get a breeze from the Sacramento Delta this weekend so far I haven't noticed it. So I am staying home today. I have DD home this afternoon so that will keep me busy. I am so tired of this continuous hot weather. But the fire fighters have it much worse than I do.
I did go to knit Wits yesterday and worked on my Waffle stitch b/blanket. I have not felt like crafting and probably wont until it cools down. Eventually it will cool down I just have to be patient. Devin goes back to school next Thursday and I hope they have good A/C. He is off for the weekend with his mom.
I have to go and take care of Janet. I will be very tired after she leaves. Her care provider will come and pick her up so I don't have to go out in the heat.
Have a good evening and stay cool.

Long day for me as we went to a family reunion on Dh’s side. I manage to try to fit in- for the most part its ok, just too long a day.
Meg, glad to hear that some relief might be on the way with a breeze from the Sacrimento Delta. Bet fall weather cannot come fast enough. I am sure that its a challenge taking care of Janet- but also doing so in this heat. Air conditioning makes it bearable but exhertion is still more challenging. Hope you can rest well tonight.
CJ- I enjoyed your story about the fig bush. That is quite a miracle that the bush almost died- and is now producing fruit again. Bet you had lots of memories of your dad today as you enjoyed those figs.
Phyl- well its a great feeling of accomplishment when a crafting area is straigtened up! Its so easy to get messy- and that just makes it hard to work in. Glad you got your play pen back in good working order.
Ruth, do you grow your tomato plants from seed? It almost sounds as thought the plants have some kind of blight- hope that the fruit you have on the plant still will ripen.
Gotta get up early tomorrow. Have a good night G
Ruth,

Phyl, I hate when I lose posts and I hate when my friends lose theirs because then I can't read them.It always feels so good to have our workspace cleaned off but it sure takes no time to get them all cluttered up again.
CJ, the fig tree sounds great. I didn't know you coud grow actual figs in the US...well maybe in Ca but I didn't know they grew anywhere else.
Meg, I'm glad you got to go to knitwits yesterday. It's nice to get out if it's a place that has a/c.I'm sure that taking care of Janet for even a day is tiring. I'm glad they come and get her when you're ready for her to go back home. Taking care of a developmentally disabled person is not easy. Thankfully there are some good people like at the care home she stays at that are there to help
Ginny, I hope you had somewhat of a good time at the reunion. I remember one time I went with dh to some family reunion that was supposed to be his family but even he didn't know the people.

Hello Crafters Meg - I hope you enjoyed the time with your DD and get to rest up today. Sure hope the fires are over soon - for you and all those affected. Ginny - I'm glad you did O.K. at your DH's family reunion. Ruth and Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting in. We're having thunderstorms here today, but I don't have to go out. In case any of you want to check out the linked blogs today is Slow Stitch Sunday, so here's a link to Kathy's blog: kathysquilts.blogspot.com/I enjoy checking out all the blogs each Sunday. Take care everyone!

Happy Sunday all!!
CJ- thunderstorms are a good reason to stay inside and stay dry and safe. Those quilting blogs are a really neat way to see what others have done with the same pattern, how they interpret a pattern. Hey a question about the fig tree, do you have to wrap it in burlap each winter? Perhaps your winters are mild enough there that they do not need wrapping. Here they need some protection from the cold.
Ruth, hope you are doing ok. Funny you mention about Dh not knowing anyone at a reunion once, well there were plenty of people that Dh did not know and even more that I did not know! Were you able to harvest those tomatoes yet- or do they need to ripen? Hope that your day is going well.
Meg and Phyl- you are both probably busy- but I hope get some time in to craft and relax.
Church this am and then Dh and I went to a historical lecture on the Revolutionary war. I was a bit tired....he found it more interesting than I did. I hope to get back to painting that bedroom tomorrow. Did get a little bit of crochetting in today. Take good care all Ginny

I can't believe I haven't posted here yet today. It got up to 99 here yesterday officially and I'm sure it got as hot or hotter today so I stayed downstairs in the cool a/c air. Did do some crocheting work but I'm still on the potholders. I've been taking too many breaks I guess.
CJ I do love seeing those links and the different ways people make the same square. I'm glad you didn't have to go out in the thunderstorm. Dh is very leery of ightening. He's always telling me I shouldn't stay in the living room during thunderstorms because he's concerned that the lightening will hit the stove chimney, travel in to the room and strike me. I don't know if that's even possible but to make him more at ease about it I usually then go into the dining room.
Ginny, you've been on the go a lot this week. I hope you can get in some days to rest and just sit, crochet, embroider or whatever will be most relaxing for you.

Phyl, good to see you. I used to love to get ice cream at McD's but I forgot they even sold it and haven't been there in ages anyway.I'm glad to hear you got the fabric you like better for the unicorn panel. As as far as I know I'll be joining you in crafting this coming week.I finished the large hotpad and the two potholders but I had wanted to make the potholders in two different sizes but they came out about the same so since I have nothing better to do I started yet another.
Tomorrow starts another week. I hope it's good for everyone.
