Guess I’ll post here—not sure anyone is around lately—wondering where in the ocean Sue is now??
Wrote a letter to DGS18 (Sunday will be 18) and ran it past DD and DH before sending it—invited him to come to dinner here on Monday—for his birthday—talked about our decision at the beach this week—acknowledged that he did not want to come and pick up his surf boards here—tried to put a perspective on our stance—not trying to change his life but just don’t want pot use on our beach week or in our home—but respect his right to deal with depression and his life as he sees fit—DD felt really good about the letter—but, he declined the invite and won’t even answer himself—asked his mom to decline for him. Which by rights she should say no, you need to take care of your own response but I guess he wants to separate himself from us. Sad—would be totally different if his dad had responded to things differently—he could have said—hey, when you are a guest you follow your hostess and host’s rules which may be different than mine but still they are adults and have a right to expect you to follow their rules under their roof. But, instead he confirmed his right to expect all of us to enable and embrace his use so we are the bad guys. Maybe there will come a day when he understands and maybe there won’t.

Soooooo busy since we got back from California! Wednesday cleaned up the yard. We had mushrooms everywhere- never have had that many. Had some fungicide in the garage , so sprayed that after I got the mushrooms pulled up. Thursday night had dinner with friends and the theater. Friday had our physicals and then early voting. Had to wait 2 hrs. In line to vote. Ate Cinesey out and then saw a movie - Alpha - really good movie!
Joan- so sorry your DGS turned down your invitation!
I wish I could tell you why my DGS turned down the scholarship and didn’t go to college. He told everyone that he was just taking a break from school but that was 3 yrs. ago! He is not a leader and is very easily influenced by friends.
DH has lost 10 pounds! He still has a lot to loose but I am proud of him for finally getting serious about his diet. I wish now he would get some exercise . Any would help .
I was hoping that leaving milk products off would hep me keep my wt . Down but I have gotten back up to 128. I have started drinking my coffee black after 50 yrs of using half and half- and I like it like that now!

Holly- I’m making a lace shawl. Quite a challenge! How are you doing knitting in the round? If you can do that you can make socks!

JoAnne—good to year from you again! Glad you are safely back home! Amazing that you got mushrooms all over so fast—are they edible?
Wow, good job on your DH starting to lose. Was he just cutting portions or really changing what he ate? I am going back to tracking—I fell into a binge the other day and that starts a chain of disaster eating days—it’s not meals that mess me up.
I walked early this morning—was so nice out because it was cloudy for a change—wore a jacket, lite weight, and a scarf on the way. Yesterday took a break from all exercise.
We ate lunch out with cruise BF’s who are in town for a week—at a French Bistro—have never been there—it is gourmet—two chefs started it up about 2 years ago—oh I loved my lunch—had borscht soup that was heavenly—beets, ginger, grapefruit and a bit of goat cheese—was so beautifully presented as well. Then I have stuffed leeks (stuffed with cashew cheese) over beets and quinoa—the beets were tiny chunks and made the red quinoa into this magenta circle on the plate—-it was really, really good and again, a work of art—edible flower petals as well.
went to the Asian market in Chinatown mall yesterday with a friend—loved walking around seeing all the kinds of mushrooms available and fruits and veggies we are not aware of—we are trying to get ideas for dinner for Thursday—doing an Asian theme since we read Crazy Rich Asians.

Hi all,
Jo Anne, I’m trying to finish knitting dishcloths and scarves for the Art Sale in a couple of weeks. I like lace patterns. I’ll revisit knitting in the round once I finish making Art sale stuff. I’ve seen a bunch of mushrooms around here too. I think they just dry up on their own.
Joan, it’s been nice here too now that Fall weather finally happened.
Heading to Charleston this week for a conference. Looking forward to getting out of town for a few days.

I’m jealous—would love to visit CHarleston again—one of my classmates, one of my best friends, lives there now. Would love to go visit her.
Just hanging out on the floor with Tanzi—doing an occasional yoga pose—listening to some music—got a little “blue” taking the gift over to DD’s—a few tears here and there—first ever birthday I have missed for DGS—I texted him a nice birthday greeting but don’t expect to hear back. His father has caused so much damage !
DGS14 wrote an excellent poem for his English class— it is about alcohol and the affect on families—very strong.
I started tracking again—got 84 g of protein and reduced my carbs by a lot today. It really does help me control my snacking—keeps me aware. Maybe I can get back to losing a little again.

Wow- just realized Sue said she was walking 6 mi/ day!!!
Joan -DH has just cut out in between meal eating and is watching portions
I notice that you eat a lot of halibut. I never buy it because it is extremely expensive here- $30/ lb and up! Is it that much where you live? Would love to buy it but just can’t justify it. I think it is more than sea bass which I buy infrequently. Love Sea bass!
Got to get to the place to purchase the tile for the bathroom and flooring for the bedroom
I will be having 20 people for Thanksgiving! Staring to prepare now. Ordered a 24 lb turkey at the grocery store yesterday. Must check to see if my fryer will hold it or if I need to get 2 smaller ones.

Holly- I am struggling with the lace shawl I choose to do. Picked one that uses lace wt thread and not fingering wt. Will not do that again!

Hi all,
Cold day here. Finishing up with making stuff for the Art Sale.
We had a great time in Charleston. My coworker friend and I did some site seeing and a ghost tour. On the last day we met up with another coworker and went out to Sullivan’s Island to eat and see the beach.
Jo Anne, lace weight is hard to work with. My favorite is probably DK.

JoAnne, SOBSIL used to give us fish he did not use—from his annual Canada fishing trip that the DGS’s now go on as well—since he never cooks it amounted to a lot—I still have a bag of about 10 filets in the freezer—they are flash frozen in airsealed packs so last forever. He will never give us any again as he is angry we are not allowing DGS18 to smoke pot at the beach house. So I will use up what we have and seldom have it again as I too am not very willing to pay a fortune for is.
Holly, I saw all your work on FB—hope the sale goes well.
I loved the home and garden tour done by the CHarleston Heritage Society when we were there and done annually but I think it’s a spring thing—it was wonderful—so historic to hear about the houses and how people came to have them and the unique things about them.
Today is the coldest it’s been here—was about 45º when I walked this morning at 7. Tonight it is predicted to get down in the high 30’s—trying to decide if I should go out and pick my green tomatoes—probably should before it gets dark—it’s already 3:30 and gets dark so early!
I have not started dinner—doing to try making an all veggie lasagne—no noodles—hope it turns out edible!
I have done something to my shoulder/arm—maybe a pinched nerve or irritated a muscle—anyway past few days have been lots of soaking in Epsom salts, advil, tens unit, etc. No gym today for the holiday but not sure what I should do tomorrow. Take Jordan back to orthodontist for new bands tomorrow also at noon.
I took DGS14 to see The Lion King last night—DH gave up his ticket for it. He loved it—saw it when he was about 5 and did not remember much about it. It was so good seeing it up so close—we are in row 5 so pretty spectacular view. I love that play—4th time I’ve gone!
Wonder where in the world Sue is-=I thought we’d hear more often. Miss hearing from her.
Valerie cut her hair really short and it’s so cute—her oldest Mimi turned 14 today!! Time flies!
Got my hair cut very short—a little brown left on the tips and on the back but mostly gray now—I am actually happy with it. Shocking!!

Hi! Wifi on these islands can be really slow! We're having a great time, meeting lots of people, and seeing people we meet from last trip. Today and tomorrow we are in Fiji, and next week, New Zealand. 200 people are getting off and new people will board. It's been really hot and humid. Days are going by so fast, we have our routine set up, relaxing on sea days and going ashore and walking around the different towns on days we land. Hopefully I'll post more when in bigger cities!

So great to hear from you , Sue—did you like Fiji? Have you ever been there before? DH taught a girl whose parents owned a winery there—they were super wealthy and flew there for spring breaks and such in their own jet—I think he said they had a cave that was used for storing wine—something like that. This was when he taught in a very expensive private school here after retirement from the District. Another world.
Speaking of wealth—my school psych’s son in law created and is CEO of Qualtrix which was just bought from him yesterday for 8 billion. How does one wrap their head around wealth like that??
I walked the past two mornings in new Brooks==went up a half size as recommended by that PT guy I had been seeing last spring—wow, what a difference—no more pain in my one toe—today was cool—45º when I started toward the coffee shop. Nice and sunny though and no breeze so was warm in no time with my coat on! Had to unzip to walk home!
Picked all my green tomatoes—one was starting to turn—as it was predicted to get to 39 last night—decided to try to ripen them inside which will work for most of them—some may be too small. Also picked a ton of jalapeños and will dice and freeze them in small amounts and maybe avoid wasting the purchase of a jalapeño for certain recipes from now on. Cannot believe how loaded that pepper bush was—I thought they were a summer thing but honestly they took off with the cooler weather.
Made a total veggie lasagna last night using eggplant and zucchini instead of the noodles—it tasted good but was too much liquid—have a feeling that the noodles in regular lasagna absorb the liquid from the veggies—wonder if I included a bit of white potato it would absorb that and still be all veggie? Sue—any ideas? The calorie count of this lasagna and carb count is way down from regular. Would like to improve the recipe.

Joan - how wonderful to have the stash of halibut!
Hi Sue -glad you are enjoying the cruise. I know New Zealand must be amazing!!
Holly- I missed your things on FB. Haven’t been there much. Willl try to look them up. I have decided to use the lace wt yarn to crochet. I just ordered a bunch of pattern books on the big sale knit picks is having. Crocheting some boot cuffs now. Will go back to socks afterward.
Weather here raining and miserable. Haven’t gotten much exercise in due to it.
So much to do before TG

Hi! Today we are in Russell Island, NZ. It's stunning here, landscape, water, architecture - very picturesque. We did a lot of walking to top of hills to get amazing views.
Fiji was ok, we did not do any tours that would have taken us farther away from the main town center, which some day in the future we will do.
I have been buying some Christmas gifts from various islands though!
Joan, try salting eggplant slices and let sit in a colander to draw out the liquid for a little bit then paper towel dry.
