Good morning!
Ruth, so sorry that your tomatoe crop fell flat on its face...(mine did also). Guess then its a mixed blessing that you got no zucchini this year (I know that is normal for you). If Dh is not a big fan of it, then perhaps its better not to have too much. When my parents grew it in north New Jersey, the stuff literally took over my parents yard, and they had way way too much, some zucchini growing to about 2 feet long! Would a hard squash work for you for next year? (Acorn or butternut?) . Of course you have to like that vegetable....just if you really want squash that might work. Or even yellow squash, which is sort of like zucchini, but just yellow. I know one year we grew them and they had a much better yield than our zucchini.
IMO- if you were to switch to another yarn for the tree skirt, Super Saver is a better choice than pound of love. Super Saver is not as soft as POL and should hold up better. My mom made probably 30 hats for my kids and several afghans out of SS- all of which are still in great shape and have not pilled.
CJ- how is your weather?? I know sometimes we have pretty much the same weather system. Hope you are staying comfortable and are working on or planning another quilt top.
Meg- bet its nice to get back to a routine with Devin in school. In as much as its nice having kids home, they do need structure and its nice getting that back..Hope he does not need too many school supplies and that you do not have to go around with him getting his school equipment.
Phyl- what project will you be working on now? Are the felted Santas done?
Got a few rows done on the baby afghan. Looks like today will be busy with errands. Ginny

Greetings: Just dropping by to say "hi". I knit and crochet. Right now am doing an afghan for my 5 year old DGS. I have yarn and a pattern for an afghan in a ....drat. I can't remember the name of the stitch, but it's a complicated one. I have realized how long I have had that yarn and have been afraid to start it. It's the knit stitch where you do it in bits of color. I have been afraid to start it since I've not done it before. I think I've talked myself into making a pillow cover or something smaller with some leftover yarn. Maybe that will help and I can see how best to make the stitich.
Anyone have any good ideas on how to break in working with a new stitch? Thanks!

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today karen8787 - Welcome to the thread. The afghan you are working on sounds beautiful - what color yarn are you using? I'm sure some of the others can answer your questions about the stitches. I do more quilting than crocheting and knitting. Ginny - Hope your day isn't too busy and you get to work on the afghan again. Hope your weather is getting better there, it's still hot here but supposed to get cooler the next few days. I still haven't found a fabric to go around that gingham block. I should probably just bind it and be done with it Ruth - Sorry to hear about your garden woes, I give you a lot of credit for doing the work of growing the plants and caring for them. It's a lot of work. Meg - I hope the smoke and heat is getting better. I also hope you were able to get to KnitWits. How is Devin liking school this year? Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting done, are you still working on the Santas? I went out to lunch yesterday and had a crabcake. I figured it would be good to get one in the Summer when the crabs are fresh. It was O.K., but a bit bland for me. I like to use more Old Bay Seasoning when I have crabcakes. I also treated myself to some frozen yogurt at Sweet Frog, and that was good. The weather here has been very hot, and when I came back home yesterday afternoon the house was really warm after being shut up all day. I'm home for the weekend so I can keep it cooler. Have a great day!

Karen, it's great to see you. How have you been? Did the move go ok? Welcome to the thread! Yes this is where I "hang out". Here and on the lifetimers over on over 60's. So you're saying your afgan is knitted? I do know how to do some basic knitting but I mostly crochet so can't help with the stitch but I would say that it's probably a good idea to start with something small to see how you like doing it and see how it turns out. Ginny, I love the hard squashes but have never tried growing them because I don't know if our growing season is long enough. Yes most people get way too many zucchini when they plant them but since I've never had any luck with them I wasn't worried about ending up with an excess. Maybe next year I will try some kind of hard squash. I don't really care all that much for the yellow summer squash that's like zucchini. The only thing I had any succes at all with this summer is my kale. I planted kale seeds indoors and only three germinated and grew but those three are doing great. I may have enough for one serving of cooked kale or one kale salad My rosemary plant still seems to be doing ok. I haven't noticed it growing but at least it hasn't died off. Thyme all died except for one pitiful little sprig. CJ, I would like a bit of seasoning my my crab cakes also. The only crab cake I've ever had was at Long John Silvers and it definitely was not fresh crab that was used...OH I take that back. I had one one time at Red Lobster also. It was pretty good. That being said, I'm not much of a seafood lover. Sorry it was so hot in your house when you got home. Today here is very cool and I don't think it even hit 70 yet I did do a little on my Christmas tree skirt yesterday but just now got to row 6. When doing row 4 I thought there was a mistake but there actually wasn't. It turned out ok. ONly thing about it is that it's ruffled...doesn't lay flat on the floor and I found out that's what was intended. Seems odd to me and I'd love to know how to revise to have it lie flat but I'm not that creative so hopefully ds and ddil will like it.I'm going to go work on it now. See you later

Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that your tomato crop also fell flat on it's face. Mine took a battering from three bad hail storms we had but didn't start to turn yellow and have the branches wither and fall off until I fed them some new "natural and organic" fertilizer.
I just remembered that you can't post your own pictures on here so I guess if we want to share pictures of our crafts we'll have to do email But here are the instructions in case you want to try
How to post a picture.
1. Find one on a website that is free.
2. Click on the picture and get it in a different page.
3. Right click on it there and choose copy image address or something to that effect. [Not save picture as.]
4. To double check it you can put the address at the top of a new page in the http place and if it opens there then you have the address correct.
5. Come to this page and find the picture icon which is next to the envelope icon. Click on it.
6. Delete 'http://' then paste in the saved address.
7. Last, click 'Insert Image,'
There you have it. You can't use a photo from your computer. It has to be on a website.
Oh and Ginny, thanks for the advice and info on the rhss yarn. I was thinking of my dh's poncho that I made him and how it pilled but then remembered I did it in three colors and two were wool ease. So it's probably good that I'm not using the yarn from the kit either because, as I mentioned yesterday, it's also acrylic with 20% wool although it could be a better quality yarn but who knows. I've never used it before

Good evening!
Welcome Karen!! I wish like crazy that I had a solution or idea to help you out with your afghan, but I do not knit. I crochet, embroider and quilt. An occasional cross stitch too... Anyway, itsgreat to meet you and I hope you will check in and visit here anytime. What color will the afghan be (yes, CJ already asked that). And do you have any idea how large it will be- are you hoping for something to cover DGS’s bed or just a throw size?
CJ- your lunch treat sounds so wonderful, a nice splurge at the end of the summer!! Hope you can stay nice and cool this weekend. I know it stinks to wish your life away...but summer and all this heat is over in a few weeks.
Ruth, there is a seed company that specializes in seeds for shorter growing seasons. Perhaps next year you could try some of their seeds for plants. I know even here in NY our growing season is too short for some crops.
We were out a lot today....had to keep Dh happy- he likes to be on the go a lot. Not much fun for me, I would like to have some quiet time at home too.
Have a great evening....Hi to Meg and Phyl Ginny

It's always good to keep our men busy and happy. I think that after Labor Day when all the kiddies are back in school and places aren't so crowded I have to drag dh out to some places. He used to like to go out but we stay home because he wants to please me.We'll have plenty of time to stay home in the winter. Nasty weather weekend here. People here are always saying "we need the moisture" but I'm sure most are unhappy that yesterday and now today it's rainy and overcast and cold and the days looked like those back in WNY. I got a bit done on the Christmas tree skirt yesterday and if I'd stuck to it instead of playing online games(Karen, I only do the games myself because I'm a sore loser . Never compete) I could have got a lot more done. I have to find out how wide ds and ddil want it. The pattern has options. Today I have to pack up youngest dgd's birthday presents because dh wants to go to the post office tomorrow. There's something he needs to mail and doesn't want to trust it in a regular mailbox.Probably will stop at the bank too since it's in that part of town also then a stop at Walmart since we'll be out anyway. Have a great day eveyone

Hello Crafters - I was looking at some blogs/message and found a few pictures that you might enjoy checking out: stitchingfarmgirl.blogspot.com/ - scroll down the whole page to see some really cute animal zoo blocks - they look like potholders to me. www.quiltingboard.com/pictures-f5/first-place-fair-t298989.html - some quilting and crocheting projects this lady entered into a fair and won prizes for. I love the little white hat with the flowers on it. Hope everyone is doing well today. I'm jut relaxing. It's a bit cooler and supposed to be only in the 80s this week for my area. Hope everyone is getting in some crafting today and doing well.

You are a very busy woman, Ginny. Maybe things will slow down for you after Labor Day when your dh really realizes that you will have plenty of time to do things now.
CJ, I especially liked the blue ribbon site. I'd love to have those patterns for the crochet things she made. And the site reminded me of that woman that won the blue ribbon using my bonnet pattern
I don't think tomorrow is going to be the day we go out but it will be sometime this week. I thought dh meant tomorrow but he said no, just soon.
Now that the weekend is almost over and people gave up hope of doing anything because of the weather it's actually getting to be really pleasant outside. It's still hazy and one of those days I didn't like when working because it really affected those suffering from respiratory problems such as COPD.

Hello Ruth, Phyl, cj & Ginny.
Finally our weather is a little cooler. I looked at the 10 day forecast and it looks like we will be in the 90s and then the 80s. This has been a very hot summer here and we have had too many days 100 +. Today I spent time in my bedroom where I keep a lot of my stash and I have been trying to tidy that up. I also sorted out some shoes that I will never wear again so I will send them off to a thrift store. I need to treat myself to some new shoes.
Karen, welcome to our thread. Have I met you before on another thread? Hope you post often. I go to UTube when I need to learn a new stitch and most of the crafters I know go there and type what they want on the search box. We are never to old to learn.
Ginny, does it feel odd not to be driving your bus as you watch everyone go back to school. I am sure you will get a lot of calls to sub.
Ruth, good luck with your gardening. The thought of gardening in the heat makes me want to run and hide. Even going out to water the planters.
phyl, What fun to go on a home tour. I haven't been to one for years. That was great that you had the instructor to yourself. I have paid to take a class and there have been so many people there I haven't learned a thing. So I avoid taking classes I have to pay for, usually they have been a waste of money for me.
cj, have you been doing any baking?
Devin has been away all weekend and he will be home soon. I love Devin dearly but it is nice to have the house to myself for a few hours.
Have a good evening.

Phyl, I've never been on a home tour but I would love to. I really love seeing different homes but mostly see them on HGTV when I used to watch that channel. I also liked when I could see into people's living rooms when driving past at night and often wished I could see the rest of the house I also like to look at magazines that have house plans. A woman on the other thread I post on lives in an apartment in a senior coop. she sent the site address where they had descriptions of available apartments and the layout plans. I loved seeing that too. I often go to sites like Trula and Zillow to look at the pictures or videos they have.
Meg, yes even though Devin sounds like a great little boy and well behaved I imagine some time alone at home is very welcome for you. Nothing like peace and quiet.I'm also glad you're area is cooling down some and I hope it will help in getting those fires out. Do you have plans for this week now that Devin will be out to school all week?
