Welcome to another week fellow crafters!
Glad you got to slip away to a fabric store and found perfect fabric to match the unicorn pattern Phyl. Hope you and Don are feeling better...
Gotta say Ruth, I thought it was odd not to see you here when I checked in last night. Have you been able to put any attention to crochetting that tree skirt?
We took the grandkids out for ice cream a week ago when we were on the way home...it was a nice way to break away from the fair. Anyway, half a mile before the ice cream stand was a Mickey D’s.....and had I been in a mood for ice cream I would have gotten mine there. It tastes just as good and costs a ton less!! Here the ice cream used to be a dollar menu item. Cannot beat that price!
Years ago....about 21 for fact, our chimney was struck by lightening. The chimney is about 8 feet from where our kitchen phone is (of course the chimney is outside and the phone inside.). We had a fair amount of damage to the chimney and needed a mason to rebuild that section, the current passed and zapped me while on the land line. (I had no idea that the storm was that close). I indeed was shocked, felt the lightening pass though me.....and it took an hour or so for me to feel normal again. It could have been much worse- the Lord was watching over me!! Needless to say I get off all phones now when lightening is near.
As busy as we have been, I have gotten some crochet time in, I work on it in the car. Dh thinks I am a terrible driver....The baby afghan might be about a quarter done. Yesterday at church a woman who also quilts asked me some questions about using silicone spray to make the quilt glide over the machine quilting extension. So I offerred her to use mine- a few sprays goes a long long way and her project is small. So I got some crafting time in there too! I will give her my spray on Tuesday am at Bible study.
Hi to Meg and CJ! Happy Crafting. Ginny

Just a momentary bellyache here.....I just checked some pretty sweater patterns on Allfreecrochet.com. Wish crafters would NOT post if they just think the pattern is pretty. I want ratings from those who have actually made the pattern and can comment on if the pattern is well written.

Good afternoon Ginny and all.
There's a woman that posts free patterns on a facebook group and most people just say "pretty". It's rare that people have said they've followed the pattern and given their thoughts about it. One day she had the mountain land scarf on there so I posted that I had made two and said that I did have a little problem at first figuring out row 2 but after that it was great so hopefully that helped people to see that they are not alone in having a little problem with the beginning.
It's so nice of you to share your spray with the woman at church. Sometimes things that you need are expensive and if you just need a small amount of something it's great to have a friend you can borrow from.
No I haven't got started on the brick stitch part of the skirt yet because I've been working on the hotpads and potholders for the neighbor. I may get to it tonigh
That sure is a scary story Ginny. God surely was watching over you and sending His protection. Most of the time when even current from an electrical strike passes thru a person it causes ventricular fibrillation then death. I don't have a land line. i wonder if cable phones are risky for lightening strikes.I don't talk on the phone much anyway because of my hearing but I'll remember to stay off the phone during thunder storms from now on.
I think the ice cream was on the dollar menu here too but not sure anymore since I haven't been there.
Well I have to go and check and see if dd is still coming over. She hasn't said for sure

Forgiive my frustration, but just saying pretty is absurd about a pattern. The appearance of a pattern is personal taste and what I might think is magnificent others might think is ugly. I guess doing as you did, posting if you encounter diffuculty is a way to deal with that, but I am interested in knowing how the pattern is before I commit to it and buy the yarn.
Ok working on the potholders for your considerate neighbor is great!! I am sure he will appreciate the gift. Are you using that double thick stitch that is so very pretty? Praying that your visit with Dd (if she stops in ) is a good and pleasant visit. I know sometimes we look forward to see our Dd#1- and well sometimes she is just in a difficult mood.
Regarding cable phones, well they are still connected with wires (I think) so the hazard is there. Cordless phones are no better as they ultimately have electrical connections. THink its best to stay off phones during lightening storms.
No crochetting yet, but I am pretty sure I will get to that tonight. I did some cleaning and am getting ready to take all t he stuff out of the attic. (That will be a mess). Gotta get rid of a LOT of stuff. good thing there is a donation box at church.
I could not see my friend from Bible study buying the spray. SHe might not like it anyway- and I paid $10 for it. I did think it helped- perhaps she will not.
Dh is trimming out the walls in the bedroom, and I will roll it. Love the new color.....thankfully Dh is doing this moderately cheerfully. G

Thanks for the info on the cable phone. I kinda thought that was the case. I'm glad your dh is helping with the bedroom in a moderately, at least, frame of mind. My dh likes me to do the trim then he does the rolling. I don't like the way he rolls and he doesn't like the way I do it so I just keep my mouth shut and go with the flow. I tried to send you an email but it wouldn't go thru so don't think you got it. It said no internet connection..well if that were true how did I get into my email at all.
I hope you will get in some crocheting time. I think I'll start working on the brick stitch this evening. Yes potholders sound like a strange thing to give a man I guess but I think he does a lot of the cooking and he does grilling so these should work for him.oh and, yes, they are the double thickness ones...the thermostitch. They do have a pattern for making that into an actual mitt which they call "Dad's mitt" and show it being used at the grill but I think the flat one would work better. A thick mitt would probably be too heavy.
DD isn't coming over today after all because she has a job interview and some other things she needs to get done so we'll see her some other tme this week.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I was just working on a post and the page closed out on me, so irritating. Phyl - I hope you and your DH feel better soon. I didn't sleep too much last night either, hope we both get better sleep tonight. Ginny - I'm so glad you weren't hurt worse from that lightening. I've always heard to stay off phones during a storm, so I try to do that. Ruth - I meant to respond to you about the figs the other day. The brown turkey fig variety is very common in the Southern US. My father grew up down there so I'm sure that's why he planted the tree I have over 20 years ago. Here's a link to what they look like: www.fast-growing-trees.com/Brown-Turkey-Fig.htmMeg - Hope you are getting in some crafting. I like the McDonald's Hot Fudge Sundae and get it sometimes. It's not too bad for calories/points and it's a nice treat. Not much going on with me. Weather here was a bit cooler and less humid. I opened the windows this afternoon, but the sun has come back out now and I might have to close them again since that builds up the heat in the house. If I ever move from here I will make sure that I don't have a house that gets that full afternoon sun against so much of the house. Take care everyone!

CJ, I forgot about those sundaes!!!!!!! I used to get them all the time and I completely forgot. I knew it couldn't have been cones.. They have caramel sundaes too right. I actually like the caramel better.
I tried the brick stitch and realized it is a stitch i've done before but they didn't call it a brick stitch, just told you what stitches to do, so didn't really call it anything. I can't remember what it was that I made with it but I know I made several of whatever it was. Now, row 3 looks tricky. That's an increase row. I haven't even done row 2 yet though so will do it then do row 3 and will be able to concentrate because dh is taking a nap.
Have a great evening. I'll check back later for posts from Meg and Phyl
CJ, thanks for the info on the fig trees. I guess I could have planted one in Arkansas but we were never there in summer or fall so guess we wouldn't have ever been able to harvest the figs but the neighbors could have had figs. I know that one of my friends there had a fig tree but it was one like I used to have growing indoors...a houseplant fig tree...never got any figs or blossoms or anything.

Tough day, had to watch the grandkids while Dd and DSIL went to have the dog put down. It was time he was losing control over his bladder...and had not eaten for several days.
Ruth, given time you will master that brick stitch. And I figure once you get the pattern of how they increase rows, that will all make sense also.
CJ- stay comfortable today! Yes the Mickey D’s hot fudge sundae is really good.
Off to throw up a second coat of paint. Ginny

Hello Crafters Ruth - Yes, I think McDonald's has caramel sundaes too - you need to treat yourself sometime. Hope you've had some success with that crochet stitch. Ginny - I'm sorry to hear about the dog, it's so tough to make that decision even if the animal isn't well. I've done it and have never forgotten I had to make that choice. Hope the painting is going well. I watched the Kid's Baking show last night, I can't believe how talented those kids are to make a cake and frosting from scratch. Today I've been watching the marathon of Early Edition on the H&I channel. I've really enjoyed them showing this every Tuesday. The weather here is a little nicer today, not as humid, but still a bit warm. Take care everyone!

CJ- you are absolutely correct- Mc Donalds has hot caramel sundaes, looks like both the hot caramel and the hot fudge sundaes are 18 points, but a plain Mickey D’s ice cream cone is 9 points. Ok both are high in points but sometimes you gotta splurge. Is the kids baking show also PBS or is that on the FOod network? THanks for your condolences about Dd’s dog. I will bet that while she misses him, she does not miss the worry about him- as he had not eaten for a few days it was always a concern when he would completel fail. I do not think anyone ever forgets having to decide to put a beloved pet down, at least someone with a heart does not forget.
Paint is done- and I have washed the window- will wash and hang the curtains tomorrow. Then I have to get busy making the quilt to match the paint color....I have to re read the directions before I take that on.
Have a good night

Yay, I'm home again and all set to spend the evening crocheting and maybe doing some reading. Yes the brick stitch is no problem at all and I did do an increase row and it's not bad either. Sometimes patterns look more complicated than they really are.
Ginny, so sorry about your dd's dog. The kids are probably devastated.
CJ, I actually pretty much have a lot of caramel sundaes because I love Hershey's caramel syrup and always put it on my ice cream which, when I have a choice I buy salted caramel ice cream to put it on.ONly one store here sells it though and they have a lot of freezer problems so I don't often buy it there. But I do love the soft serve ice cream so I do plan to go to McD;s to get one soon. Thanks for mentioning them. as I said I'd forgotten about them
See you all later

Good morning, Guess that 6 am will end up being my ‘normal” wake up time...which seems to be the latest time I can push the cats off. Its actually kind of nice and gives me an hour to be up and catch the morning news and weather.
Ruth, sounds like you had a good evening! If you were looking for a quiet evening of crochetting and reading- I hope that you got just that. Congrats on figuring out the key to the brick stitch. That tree skirt is going to look so pretty. Did you decide to use synthetic yarns and save the wool for another project?
Yes, Dd’s dog will be missed...they do have another dog but the one who was so sick was a boxer and they have very quirky personalities. I do not think the grandkids understand what is going on- at least the 3 year old does not. The 5 year old might actually see the pain the dog caused her mother and be happy that the source of that pain is no longer here. Its complicated.
Going for a walk with my friend in a little bit. G

Good afternoon everyone. I got up a little late and then dh and I spent time visiting then cooking and I'm now baking. WEll it's all mixed and in the oven and doesn't need frosting or anything so actually my work is over. They had a sale on peppers at one of the stores we went to yesterday and they were huge. At another store they had Italian sausage at a great price. So today we made stuffed peppers to put in the freezer (they're in the slow cooker) and cut up peppers, onions, and mushrooms to put on the sausages. I had some plain Greek yogurt that needed using so I made two loaves of yogurt, olive oil bread. ...used only half olive oil and half canola. And I put a lot of nuts and brown sugar as a middle layer. Dh likes it and it has high protein because of the yogurt and all the eggs you use so not as unhealthy as some desserts. They'll go in the freezer too. I made two loaves.
Ginny, when I was in high school my parents had a boxer. She was a really nice dog but then got cancer or something and she was so sick. What kind is the other dog they have? I do like dogs and cats but not to have myself. It's like grandchildren....all the love but not the work
That sure is a lot of points for the sundaes. It's mostly from the syrup I guess.
I did spend the evening doing a little crocheting but mostly reading.. I had to catch up on my Bible study and reading since we left the house before I could do it and I also read a little bit of a novel online and also watched a little tv.
The Kids' baking show is on Food Network.
I hope all of you are having a great day. Ginny, I hope you had a good walk with your friend. CJ, hope you figured out what to do about the water produced by your a/c. Meg, you're probably resting now that Devin is back in school and Phyl...are you at sit and sew or out "bummin" with Delona?
OH yesterday when we went out to go to the stores BOTH of our vehicles had dead batteries!!! Luckily the car started when dh got an old battery from the garage and jump started it. Today he has the SUV on the charger. Both have fairly new batteries and it's summer!!! So what the problem is we have no idea.

Hello Crafters Ginny - Wow, those are a lot of points on this new program for a small treat. I don't think I'd be successful on this plan, I just like the older ones better. I'm glad you got your painting done. I'm sure it looks nice. Ruth - I get the Hershey's lite chocolate syrup and use it in several things, it does satisfy the taste for something sweet and chocolatey. I'm sure the caramel is good too. Sorry to hear about your car battery problems, I hope you figure that out. It would be bad to be stranded if you had an emergency and needed to get out. Phyl - Wow, your mother was still driving at 94 - good for her! I'm sure it will be difficult for her to give up her license, but hopefully there are people to take her out where she needs to go. Meg - Hope the weather there is better and the smoke is clearing up. I went out today and took care of some errands and did some grocery shopping. It's hot here, around 90, but not too humid. We're supposed to get a few hot days ahead before going back in the 80s this weekend. Here's a link to the weekly quilt block from Pat Sloan. There are only a few blocks showing so far, so check back in a few days for more pictures. It's a pretty block: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2018/08/merry-bright-sew-along-block-4.htmlTake care everyone!
