Good evening!
Its great to see everyone checking in this evening. I was unsure if I would be back here, but the day did settle down after awhile.
Meg, temps in the 80’s are sure encouraging!! Bet you can actually feel your airconditioning now, as opposed to feeling like it is barely keeping up. At least now its safe for you to be outside for short amounts of time, while its still too hot, its not as dangerous. Glad you had the energy to get some laundry done! (I have been avoiding doing that for a day or so). Hopefully the activity of getting the laundry done tires you out so that you can sleep well tonight. When was your last iron infusion??
Ruth, if your family offers to go to Cracker Barrel go!!!! I love it there also...and the food is, for the most part, tasting home cooked and just good. They are usually crowded though- a very popular spot. Like you, I do a fair amount of online banking and credit card payments too. I LOVE my one credit card, it sends me texts all the time when anything happens to the account, so that I am always aware of what is going on. Years ago a card of mine was hacked, so I am very thankful when the credit card stays on top of my account and sends me alerts. Hope that your packing is going well- and all the organizing to go also. Even for a short trip, it seems like SO much work.
CJ- well if you were heading to Cracker Barrel, why did you not invite me? It only would have taken me 5 hours or so to get there! Glad you got out and spent time with friends. Hope that the AC worked great so your meal was comfortable. What did you have to eat? Do you have a favorite meal at CB? Totally agree, the teller should have apologized. And while being really nice and not reporting the teller to a supervisor, it probably adds to your personal frustration. Who needs that!! Funny, about 6 months ago, Dh and I opened a new bank account and are now slowly switching all the automatic bill paying and deposits to that bank. Its a smaller bank, with better interest rates and they treat us really well. A very personal experience. I hope you can find a bank you are happy with. They have YOUR hard earned money. You deserve to be treated well and fairly.
Phyl- sounds like you over did things! Were you able to get your groceries done without aggrivating your back too much? Hope that the tomato squirt came out. I would think if you caught it early, it should come out fine.
Still hot here, but it does seem as though there is a light breeze and perhaps the weather will improve a bit. TOmorrow is supposed to be in the mid 80’s, and I welcome that. Dd has mastitis. DGS got a virus over the weekend- just an upper respiratory kind of thing- which he gave to the baby. Of course, she did not nurse as much, and Dd got the virus also. Lack of sleep, weakend condition, and a baby too stuffy to nurse....well that makes for mastitis. Fortunately, she convinced her OB/GYN to call in a script for an antibiotic and she was feeling a bit better by the time we left. Dh and I went out to lunch....then stopped at Walmart to get a probiotic for Dd. It was a long hot day.... Hard to believe we start baby sitting again next week. Meg, thanks for the encouragement about Dd becoming a teacher. Wow, it seems crazy that we have been friends here that long, but yes we go back to WW site. She needs to get her masters, but has a part time teaching position to start. I think she is an awesome teacher and will do great. Thanks for your encouraging words.
Still going through stuff from the attic. Saturday Big Brothers Big Sisters is coming to take a lot of stuff from us. Its going to be quite a process to get everything back into the attic. Oh well. Rome was not built in a day.
Hope i can get some hooking time in later. Ginny

hi, the problem is the back is not saying in after a treatment. the back was good for most of the weekend.
don does most of the grocery shopping. this got started in south dakota when margie was a baby.so we didn't have to take her out in the cold.as the kids grew went as a family.then with jobs and years changing he has done the shopping most of the time. sometimes I tag day along.lol today was a tag day.don goes one way and I go and picked a few thing that were not on the list.like blueberry muffins.cottage and cream cheese. some thomas bagel thins.
don is very good at sticking to the list.
he loads and unloads the car and helps put away.
think I will keep him another 56 years. well it will be in october.
yes the tomato stains came out. so did some of the pencil marks. will make a new pattern. need to have the lines a little darker then what was on the first one.
I found out something yesterday. have you ever used friction pens? the skinny ones for marking,. they come out with heat.
elli who is apprasier of quilts said not to. they can come back yellow or brown stains. she said to mark a piece of fabric, iron it and put it in the freezer .take it out and see if the stains have come back I can't quite remember think she said the stains com back. will check next week. phyl

PHyl, I'm glad you had a good time at both sit and sew and that the dinner was good that you attended. Too bad you didn't win anything.Sorry to hear about the tomato squirt and I hope it comes out but as you said, fortunately it's small. I keep worrying that something is going to get on this tree skirt and I WOULD NOT want to have to start this over or take out a significant part of it.
Ginny, I'm glad some of your sick family is feeling better. And yes, time flies. It's time for school to start and also your babysitting.
Meg, I'm glad to hear that it's cooled down some. I did some laundry today too but very little. Just a small load of a couple small afgans that I'm not even sure who they were made by. I thought the one was made by my dh's oldest sister and I guess I never looked at it closely because she only knits and the afgan is crocheted. She sent it to us as a Christmas present but Ithink her grandmother gave it to her and that it was made by their aunt. I think the other one we have and that I washed today was made by dh's aunt. His grandmother sent it to us when she was living with her daughter and they both crocheted but this doesn't look like the work of his grandmother. She couldn't see well and did things with a large hook and this was made with a small hook...you could tell my looking at the very small shells it's comprised of. We've had them both for a very long time now.I sure hope you can sleep tonight. I didn't sleep well but I did sleep some where it sounds that you got no sleep at all.
Thank you all for your nice thoughts and good wishes about our trip. It will be short but It will be nice to get away.Too much driving for me though but we'll still to the interstates as much as possible and some country roads that have no traffic.
My three brothers posted on Facebook about their weight loss efforts. All have been successful. so all of us that wanted to lose have. Two of my brothers say they haven't reached their goals yet but are working on it.I wish my sister would lose. She's not quite 5 ft tall and I don't know how much she weighs but she is extremely obese and has diabetes and sleep apnea and bad knees.
It's after 8pm and I haven't done a thing on the tree skirt

Phyl, I see you posted again. How nice that Don does the shopping. Dh and I both like to shop so we both go. I'd kind of like to go alone sometimes but he's really the one that needs and wants to get out.

good morning and happy thursday,
not sure what we will do today. I need to go to winona and get some more fabric to finish up a project. I messed up on the binding. darn it.
WE can still have the windows open with a nice breeze. our high will be 78. tomorrow we start climbing into the 80.s.course school starts tuesday and it always warms up when school starts. 80's won't be to bad if the humidity stays down.
hannah is so excited about being a 5th grader this year. I haven't seen her since school got out. she had been busy, staying at her dad's, summer school programs swimming.
ruth just make sure when you are working on the tree skirt you don't have any food or drinks near it.need a drink or to chew on something put the skirt aside. yes it would not be good if you had to start the project all over. I need to get back to working on hannah's scarf and hat.
what's everybody up today. phyl

Good morning Phyl and everyone. Yes winter will be here before you know it and Hannah will need that scarf and hat. Yes I do make sure to set the skirt aside when I have something to eat or drink. I just did the last increase row and am up to 156 brick stitches which is 780 stitches in all. Sure don't want to have to do a couple rows of that many stitches over again so I've been trying to stop every few bricks and check to make sure I have them all right be because in one row I luckily saw that I had done the sc and chain but forgot to do the three dc's so I was able to take out just a few bricks not the whole rows.I hope you get to Winona to get that fabric but sorry the edging got messed up and you have to do it over.Happens to all of us unfortunately. It's great when our projects do go smoothly.
I don't think we're going out today after all. It's too hot.

Well we did end up going out shopping after all. I guess I misunderstood dh when I thought he said he wasn't going to go after all. We only went to two stores though. In the second one I lost my keys but when I went back in I remembered when I last used them and it was to have the cashier scan my little key ring thing so they were on the floor there..she had shut down after ringing up my order so no one had been through that line after me.I guess I must have been trying to put them in my pocket and missed. Also got a gift card that I qualified for with my points that you earn when you shop. It's for dh actually for pizza.
After I got home I wasted a bit of time then worked on the skirt. I nearly panicked when I counted my bricks because I thought there were supposed to be 170 something and there were only 156 which is exactly what it really is supposed to be.I'll work on it more this evening and try to get at least another row done. So far I got only a half row done which is still alot of stitches.
I'm trying to decide what to take with me on our trip. I don't want to take anything too big and I don't want to take anything that requires a lot of different colors or has a lot of parts. So now I'm thinking maybe one of the Bible covers, or start the afgan I want to make eventually for my ds' oldest. He will be 20 in Feb and I wouldn't be surprised if when he gets home from Taiwan that he goes to college or if he stays around their area that he gets his own place now that he's getting used to having his own over there.
So what have the rest of you been doing all day?

Good morning!
Phyl- congrats on almost 56 years with your beloved Don! Wow....makes my Dh and I sound like babies at this marriage thing- only 36 years. Great news that the tomato stain came out, along with some pencil marks. Of course that is the great fear....Did you have to take out the entire binding or were you able to correct it otherwise? think that bindings are every quilters least favorite part of the project. Kind of wish that quilts would just bind themselves!!! Hope you are able to stay comfortable, both with your back pain and the heat returning. Pretty soon we will all be chatting about cold temps- with the exception of Meg. What color scarf and hat are you making for Hannah?
Ruth-sorry you are in the heat again. Your days are hot but nights get cool, which for me makes it more tolerable. At least when the nights are cooler, sleeping is possible. Do not blame you for counting stitches every few bricks. That is a lot of stitches, and It would be a challenge and discouraging to have to take out a lot of them to correct a skipped or incorrect stitch. Would you make this pattern again?? Sometimes after you get the hang of a difficult pattern, they become not so overwhelming.
Our temps dropped last night and we have cooler weather for a few days. Feels nice to have open windows and hear the birds. Have gotten a some crochetting done on the baby afghan. Its now approaching the point where its getting large, and is a little cumbersome to turn. Think its 22 inches.....I will probably end it around 36- 40 inches and will not buy more yarn for it as I have yarn leftover from the other afghan.
Have a wonderful day. Hi to Meg and CJ Ginny

Good morning Ginny and all who come in later.
Ginny, congratulations in being almost half way done with the baby blanket. Do you have a certain project in mind to start when you get this baby blanket done? I know you have several things in mind to work on.
Yes we're fortunate that we have low humidity and cool nights. There are drawbacks of course. The low humidity makes for dry skin, lots of watering needed for plants and yards. The cool nights make it hard to grow certain things like peppers for instance. They don't like coolness.
I don't know that I would ever make this tree skirt again except for one that is much, much smaller. I may make one for my 3 foot tall table Christmas tree which will require some pattern adjustment. I did finally realize where I used this same or, actually very similar stitch. First of all there are two stitches they call brick stitch. One seems to be just 4 dc's in a row then skip one to make blocks. The one in this pattern is sc, ch2, 3dc all in the same stitch or space but after you get the initial rows done it's made in the ch2 space. It's the same as the linus project sideways shell baby blanket which I've made a lot. Only in that pattern you do sc, ch 2 then only 2dc's in the same space or stitch instead of 3. I think the 3 makes it nicer so I may make a blanket or two with that added 3rd dc.
I did make another whole row last evening. Takes forever. When I'm complaining about the number of stitches in future projects I'll think of this one and stop complaining. I'm thinking that I'll make 12 more rows then edging. I was hoping to get this done before we leave for a couple days but I don't think that's going to happen with each row taking so long... I think I'm a pretty fast crocheter too but.....
Well gonna go get back to work. Have a great and blessed day everyone!

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today It's been so hot here I haven't felt motivated to do much. Hope your weather is better. I did get a border put on a small quilt top I'd made. The final size is 42x42. I'd like to get the border on the Solstice quilt and I checked my stash to see if I had some rust colored fabric, but I don't. I'm not in the mood to go to a quilt store (I know, crazy right ), but I'll get there eventually because I really want this quilt top finished. I do have a few other things to work on and then that will get me caught up to start new projects. Here's a link to Pat Sloan's latest block for the Merry and Bright quilt. It's Block 5 and it's a tree block, I like this one and might try it with some of my Christmas fabrics: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2018/08/merry-bright-sew-along-block-5.htmlTake care everyone!

I think I like 5, 11, and 16 best. All the squares so far have been so pretty.
CJ, I hope it cools down there for you very soon. I hate to wish time away but I know all the rest of you except for maybe Phyl are more comfortable when it's cooler. I know so many people who say that fall is there favorite season. It's definitely not mine. Spring to me is best. Everything coming back to life again is so great.
I've been procrastinating and haven't even started on the tree skirt yet but am going to do that now.I'd love to get two rows done today.

Good morning! I am on my phone, so typing is a challenge. I will be brief.
CJ , I figure the reason u did not want to go out for rust fabric is cause of the heat. As that is a flncolor it would be my guess that the fabric stores have plenty.....thanks for posting the pat Sloan link. She has such cool ideas for quilt blocks!
Ruth , this tree skirt will become a treasured family heirloom. Sounds like a ton of work but oh so pretty. Get the project finished so you can admire your own work.
Got a medium sized donation out this am, stuff from the attic. Did get some crochet time in .still enjoying Open windows, but I think the heat returns tomorrow. I love fall because the air is so crisp and clear. BBL Ginny

Hey Phyl, the variegated yarn sounds very pretty-I am a big fan of grey because its such a soft color and blends well with a lot of other colors. Hope your corn huskers have a great season! So glad that college football is missing all the stupid turmoil present in the NFL.
My charity donation was picked up. Dh and I got to the store and all that. Is put away.....Dd and I got a nice walk in too. Enjoying a few minutes of down time for now. The humidity is back on the rise....tomorrow is supposed to be warmer.
