Its always a shock to me when I see the opening dates of a new week and see how time is flying by. Hard to believe that September is here at the end of the week!! We welcome all crafters here to join our warm and friendly chat.
So obviously, this is the start of a new week....I love how we share ideas here and help each other out as best we can with issues of crafting, life and even weight loss.
Think today I will make a few phone calls (and spend a few hours on permenant hold), also keep slowly moving toward the goal of reorganizing the attic. I did get a tiny amount of crochetting time in last night.
Ruth- I will keep thinking about gifts for DGD- what about a gift bag with items so she can give herself her own facial? Here CVS sells their own brand of skin care as does Walmart- which is not too pricey. When my girls were teens they used to like to give each other facials as a treat when they had sleep overs.
Ok, better get breakfast going. Dd goes to work for the first day- its a preservice day for teachers, no kids. BBL Ginny

Again they had me login.I've never had to do that before.
Ginny, I was wondering if there were some mettings and orientation or something you dd had to attend before school actually started.
Yes I hate those waits on hold. I hope you can get thru without having to spend too much time listening to the "elevator music" or the "we appreciate your business" messages.
Very cold nasty looking day here today. It's overcast and looks like rain. I don't know what happened to the hot days dh mentioned. They also said that it's going to snow. At elevations over 9000 feet there will be 4-8 inches and below that 2-4 inches but only in parts of the state so probably not here.
We're planning on a little road trip sometime after Labor Day. Will have dd stay here while we're gone. We never really explored around our state much even though we've lived here for nearly 30 years. So I'm going to be doing some cleaning and planning my list of things to pack and it will include yarn and hooks for evenings in the hotels.

Oh and also, while out last week we noticed that the tree leaves are turning already. Most of the trees along our street and the bushes in the open field between our house and the mountain are all turning. We don't get many colors...mostly yellow but one very large bush has a big patch of a very pretty bright golden color right at the top.

The tree skirt is 43.5 inches across- I forgot that I added a border to it.

Hello Crafters - Ready for a new week Ginny - I've had authors I read that really upset me with what they did with characters too. I recently read a novel where 3 women dealt with weight issues and I was very troubled at the storyline and how the book ended. I will probably read this author again, but I know to expect some more storylines that are tough to deal with. Ruth - It was almost 100 degrees here today, can't believe how cold it is there. I made the shirt pillow last night and it was so easy and quick, didn't take more than 2 hours. The most difficult thing was cutting the front and back pieces to the right size. I ended up with a 20 inch by 20 inch square and sewed using a 1/2 inch seam. The pillow size I used was 18x18, and it fit perfectly. I will definitely make some more of these. The material of the shirt I used wasn't even flannel, it was acrylic So it's probably a good idea to use these acrylic shirts for pillows and if I do find any real flannel shirts in my father's clothes I could use them for a quilt. Earlier today my smoke alarm in the basement went off, it really scared me. I went down there but didn't see any problems. I have two alarms down there, one of the new 10 year ones and this old one that went off. The Internet says that humidity, dust, bugs, or just plan being old, an set it off so I hope it was just one of those things. My outside trash pickup in my front yard today netted me a glass beer bottle, a plastic water bottle, assorted pieces of trash and branches from my neighbor trimming some trees and letting the branches drop in my yard Take care everyone!

thank you Ginny, that really helps. Did you find it a good width for a tree skirt?
CJ, yes a smoke detector going off is enough to scare anyone. I'm glad it wasn't really a fire. 100 degrees and all that humidity...no way would I like that. And I would hate to find trash in my yard. Bad enough the dog leavings but I haven't seen many lately. I knew you would have no problem with the pillow and I'm glad it did go well. It certainly is a good way to use those shirts.
I did a few minutes on my tree skirt and need to make myself just do that instead of picking up this laptop so often.
I may have to check some stores for season end sales. The one hotel we are planning on staying at has an indoor pool and I think my bathing suit is going to be too big. I remember when it was too small but I've lost at least 20 lbs since I last wore it and it fit great back then so I do have a feeling I'm right about it being too big now.I have to try it on and also see if dh has one that fits him. When I bought that suit is when it was too small but I really liked it so got it anyway. Had to lose about 25# to fit into it back then. Dh must have "found" the weight I lost. Too many carrot cakes. There's also a few other things I'd like to find for next summer.

Hi!
CJ- So sorry that you were gifted with such presents. It used to bug the tar out of my dad when that happened at my parents home- noone wants to clean up after another person. You do take pride in your home and do not deserve that. THe pillow pattern was a winner! Awesome....hope that you are going to keep the first one- or your favorite shirt of your dads. Bet those pillows will become cherished items in your family- and it also gives you a nice remembrance of your dad when you are working on the pillows. With regards to authors, the book I am finishing now, the author killed off the main characters boyfriend. The fans revolted and got super upset.....she actually brought him back to life (claiming he was in a witness protection program while he was βdeadβ). I must say that two of the books she wrote, the first one after his death and several books later when he returns will bring me to tears. I have re read them several times.... but have not done so for many years. Throw out the old smoke detector. They should be replaced after 10 years.
Ruth, are you travelling soon? Yes this is a good time for end of season sales- especially with all the school stuff coming out. Bet they want to clear the racks of summer items. Yes, I felt that the 43.5 width worked well for the tree skirt. I used it for 2 different trees, the one we had 2 years ago (which we got rid of as it was falling apart) and the nice tree I got last year (great sale!!!). It did not stick out too much at all but was still visible under the tree. It was super easy to find too- glad i could help.
SPent way too much time on the phone today, but accomplished much. The heat and humidty are back- for a few days. Yuck. Did sneak in a few minutes with my crochet hook this am....
Have a good night all Ginny

yesterday's outing pie day was a lot of fun.the shop showed a lot of items about 50.anything from bags,place mats,lap quilt s,baby quilts,wall hangings.etc.
we went downstairs for pie. there must have been about 15 different pies. I had butterscotch.delish! not good for a diabetic. these pies are all homemade.
I did buy about 3 yards of fabric again. both for a future project.I need to stop buying fabric and work with stuff I have.phyl

Good morning!!!
Phyl- embroidery is nice because its so portable. Guess you just had an urge to work on a winter project to remind you of the cooler temps we see in the winter. The more you embroider the better you will become at it...will you be making a snowman to stuff with this? All those pies sound delicious- I doubt many pies are good for diabetics anyway. Bet that butterscotch pie was amazing. I tend to like those sweet pies too, not the tart fruity ones. Did you have a project in mind for your new fabric?
Got my walk in, even though it was crazy hot and humid. At least its done. Spent a few minutes crochetting and s tiny bit of housework. Will be heading to Bible study in a few minutes. Ginny

Ginny, thanks again for the info on the tree skirt. Mine is about 34 inches now I think so not much more to go to get to that measurement.Congratulations on getting in the walk altho it's so hot. at 11 am here it was only 50 but rest of the week will be in the 80's. And congrats on getting to Bible study too. You're taking care of both your physical and spiritual.
We're starting to organize things for our trip. It's only going to be for a couple days and we'll go in about two weeks so I do have time to get things done but I always get into a frenzy about cleaning and so forth. I just need to be a little calmer and just sit back and enjoy the days at home before we go. I do all the driving so can't crochet while travelling. I don't think I can do that anyway while riding either but have never actually tried. I know I can't read while riding.
Phyl, I haven't embroidered in years and even then it was only simple embroidery. Good luck with all your projects.
Hello to Meg and CJ too. I hope it's not too hot where you are but I'd bet it is
Well on to do some household tasks. See you later

Good morning! Ruth, for me- preparing for a trip is a stressful experience. Its a challenge getting all the βiβs dotted and the βtβsβ crossed so that you can leave home and not have to worry. I will pray for you as you prepare for going away....that you remember all you need to do so you can travel in peace. Well, I am sorry that you do all the driving, but I guess I admit that crochetting in the car is a way to pass the time becasue Dh insists on doing all the driving. He thinks I am a terrible driver . Anyway, yes, enjoy the time at home! Good progress is being made on that tree skirt- it surely will be done in time! (Got a feeling your tree skirt will be done before my afghan).
Heading over to help out Dd- she has a house full of sickies. Got a few minutes of hooking in last night. Have a blessed day all. (Still very hot here in the NE, which thankfully breaks tomorrow) Ginny

Hello Crafters
Phyl - I hope your back is feeling better soon. I love pies, that butterscotch one sounds good. I think most quilters say they need to stop buying fabric and use what they have, but what fun would that be
Ginny - I hope your DD and her family are feeling better soon, hope you don't get sick.
Ruth - I'm excited for your upcoming trip. I do all the driving when I go somewhere too, mostly because I get really carsick if I don't, but also because I'm a bit of a control freak
Meg - Hope you are getting in some crafting and listening to some good books. I saw that Season 4 of Poldark is starting on September 30th on my local PBS station.
It's been very hot here, highs in the 90s, feels like over 100 degrees. I'm miserable and can't wait for the cooler weather. I went out to lunch at Cracker Barrel yesterday with a few family members. Had a really nice visit and meal. I don't get there very often so it makes for a nice treat.
I had problems at the bank yesterday though. I was trying to transfer some money from savings to checking, since I'm about ready to pay for my roof finally (just waiting to get the final amount the insurance company will pay). The teller messed up the transaction and instead of depositing the money from savings to checking, she moved the money from checking to savings! What a mess. Fortunately I caught the mistake before I left the bank and went back in and got it fixed.
That was a very serious error, which could have caused me to bounce checks, so I was upset. I was a bank teller at one time and this is not a mistake a decent teller should make, this woman should not be a bank teller, in my opinion. I thought about complaining to the bank, but I probably won't. I was also upset that when the error was pointed out to the teller she didn't apologize to me. That's just good customer service to do that. Fortunately the teller that fixed the problem was very nice and did apologize for the bank.
I am looking at starting to move my money to another bank because this one is getting to the point where they are closing all their branches and forcing people to bank by computer, which I don't want to do yet. I really hate to think that someday everything we do will have to be done online instead of dealing with a person.
I pressed some fabric the other day that I want to use for the borders on two quilts, so next time I get motivated I'll be ready to cut and sew them on.
Take care everyone!

CJ, I'm glad to hear you were able to get out to Cracker Barrel with family. It's always great to be able to do that. I've never been in a Cracker Barrel. Last time I was visiting my ds and his family ddil asked if I'd ever been to one and I said no but then we didn't go there so don't know why she asked. I thought maybe she was suggesting we go there which would have been fine with me. That's terrible about that teller. I wonder if they've had other problems with her work. Yes I always hate to complain but making mistakes with people's money is a serious thing. I do do all my banking online and only have to stop at a bank when I have to deposit a check which is rare but I do have one now that I need to deposit so probably tomorrow when I go out I'll have to do that. I'd better check to make sure the check isn't outdated by now. I think that if a person has online banking and they have a smart phone they can just take a picture of the check or something and have it deposited that way. That would be great but again, I don't get all that many checks. And yes, she definitely should have apologized personally to you. Mistakes happen, yes, but they need to result in the person making them try harder.I do all my banking online, it's all free and I've never had any problem. I pay all the bills online and it's great. They even send reminders to you in email to tell you when bills are due. you can have your bills sent to the bank online site and they will even fill in the amounts on your payees list. I don't do that though excpet for one credit card company. I should really set up the others that way also and my other bills. It makes it so easy and you can always see your balance right there.
Ginny, I'm praying everyone is well soon. It's so hard having sick children especially babies.Thank you for the prayers. I actually feel calmer already aobut the whole thing but as the time gets close I know I'll have to pray about it more.
Phyl, yes I think we all have that problem about buying more fabric, more yarn, or more crafting kits. I know I do.

Hello everyone, It feels humid today or perhaps it is just me. Our temps have been in the mid 80s this week. I didn't sleep at all last night so I don't have any energy today. I have been feeling that way for awhile. I am probably due for iron infusion treatments. I have not been crafting much an I am still trying to finish the b/blankets I have been working on all summer.
Ginny, is your DD teaching already? I remember when you were packing her off for her 1st year of college. It just doesn't seem very long ago. I wish her well and I am sure she will be a great teacher. I am sure you are very proud of her. I can't imagine your DH thinking you are a bad driver after all you drove the school bus for years. Hope everyone at your DDs house get well soon.
Ruth, I had to log in a few times recently but it seems to be OK now. I am glad to hear that you and DH are going on vacation it will do you both good to get away for a few days. When my DH was alive we used to go out to the coast for a few day every year in Sept. It is a nice month to go as it is a little quieter in Sept. I hope you have a great time.
Phyl, good to see you are keeping busy. I know I would find the pie very tempting.
cj, sorry your temp is 100 and hope it cools down soon. I am glad you got your banking sorted out before you left the bank.
I am doing laundry so I have to go. Take care everyone.
