Hllo Ruth, cj, phyl & Ginny,
I have had sort of a lazy day though I did take care of some paper work. I finished the 11th Poldark book and have just 1 more to go. I did take a break for awhile and I may take a break before I read the last one. This evening I did some knitting and listened to an audio book. I haven't been anywhere since last Fri but I will try and get out of the house tomorrow. I just don't seem to want to go anywhere.
Ruth, I am sure your tree skirt is beautiful and I wish I could see it. You have put a lot of work into it.
cj, I would love to come and enjoy your 70 degree weather. Lucky you. It is still in the 90s here but the mornings & evenings are cooler.
Ginny, I hope your DD had a great day with her first class and I hope she has a nice group of kids. It doesn't seem all that long since she started college.
Phyl, I hope you are keeping well.
Now I am off to bed. Good night.

Good morning!
Ruth, congrats on finishing the tree skirt!! Bet is looks so beautiful and the edging sounds lovely. I wish that the package delivery services offerred a very slow but cheap shipping rate. There have been times that I wanted that also.....then you could ship the tree skirt- even if it is heavy- and not have to spend a fortune. Probably one of those “if it fits it ships” boxes from the PO will work. The tree skirt can be compressed into a box and then sent that way. This tree skirt was quite an undertaking....hope that they take a picture of it under their tree and send that to you.
CJ- thanks for the link! I am not one to buy fabric panels, but that is such a cute idea!! I can see myself trying that with the right panel. Easy quilt to make, and such a dramatic look.
I helped with a HS MS route this am....home by 8:30. Will do the same tomorrow- I am helping with a new driver.
Cannot remember if I got any hooking time in yesterday...I am going to take a nap now-slept very poorly last night. Still hot here, but this is the last day of the heat. Take care BBL Ginny

Meg, think its a good idea to save the last Poldark book for a little while. Can you check the authors web site and see when the next book is being published? It stinks when a good series comes to an end, or you have to wait for the next book. G

Good morning all. It's still morning here at least and also where Meg and Phyl are.
Dh said we're going to have at least a week of hot weather up in the 90's. Luckily we plan on going to a place where there are trees to shade us as we look around.
Last night I started a purse for dgd. I made her one back when I made one for all the girls but that was awhile ago...maybe three years...so it's probably pretty worn and also it was more appropriate for a younger child so now that she will be 12 in Nov I'm making her more of one that will be appropriate for a little older age. I'm going to line it too. I've never lined any of them and after I made the really fantastic one for the oldest girl of that family I was sure wishing I had lined it.
The instructions for this purse are confusing to me. It has a spike stitch and it's not made like any spike stitch I've seen but I think I have it figured out but if not I'll just revise and maybe will anyway because I have an idea for a spike stitch to put in it that I like a lot better.
Ginny, sorry to hear you didn't get much sleep last night. It's good that you're able to get in a nap. I hope you have a restful day today and will be able to sleep well tonight.
Meg, I often save my favorite books so that I can enjoy the anticipation of reading it. I hope you can get to Knit Wits tomorrow but I feel the same about staying home.
CJ, I didn't think I liked scenic fabric much but the one on that youtube is beautiful!Thank you for sharing that site address.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm glad you've been enjoying the Poldark books. I haven't been out of the house for a week either, and don't have much desire to go anywhere, so I understand how you feel. Ginny - That part time driving seems like it isn't too bad, glad you can do it. I sometimes wish I'd worked part time after retiring, but now I don't want to Ruth - Hope things work out with the purse, that sounds like a neat gift for your DGD. Phyl - Hope you are feeling better and getting in some crafting. I'm going to test out that panel quilt using a small piece of fabric (fat quarter) that I have already. I want to see how it works before I cut into my big pieces of fabric. I'm also testing out a Warm Wishes quilt, using some Christmas fat quarters I've had. I'm following directions I found on the Internet, but some of it doesn't make sense to me so that's why I just want to do a small test piece first. Here's a link to some pictures of the Warm Wishes quilt pattern: gloriouscreations.blogspot.com/2012/02/warm-wishes-quilt.html - lots of different colors here teresasquiltstash.blogspot.com/2010/08/warm-wishes-quilt-pattern.htmltamarackshack.blogspot.com/2016/01/warm-wishes-quilt.htmlAs you can see it really looks different depending on the fabrics you choose. After I posted yesterday the temperature kept climbing and the highest heat index outside my house was 121 degrees!!!! It's another hot one here today too. Can't wait for the weekend for it to cool off. Take care everyone!

CJ, it's just way too hot where you are. Heat index in the 120's would kill me. I checked out the warm wishes quilts. They're beautiful. I love the actual quilting stitches too and on that third site up in the top of the page she has one that is not so much the fabric as the actual quilting that makes the quilt. The one part of it is just white fabric with quilting stitches in it. It looks very ornate.
I helped dh today with inflating the tires. He had to try three tire inflators before he got one to work. One tried to catch fire. Smoke was pouring out of it. ONe the second one the hose just leaked and actually let the air out of the tires instead of pumping it in. I also found a mailbox key I though I had lost about a year or more ago.It was under the passenger seat and I know I cleaned out under there since the key was lost but guess I must have missed it. Seems to be my time to find keys. Our second safe deposit key was missing for at least 4 years maybe more. We finally just went and got a new box. So the ohter day when I was getting things out for our trip I found a set of keys in a little duffle bag we use for short trips and the lost sdb key was on it. Too late now.
I did work on the purse and it's looking very pretty already. I'm sure that dgd is going to really like it. It's really easy too so it shouldn't take long at all then I'll make the lining if I have a fabric in my stash that will work.
I hope you all had a good day and evening and get a good sleep tonight.

Happy Friday!
The ladies here teach me every day.....so todays lessons were a spike stitch in crochet and a warm wishes quilt. Had to go online and check out links for both....
Ruth, hope that you have lovely weather to travel in! Even with an airconditioned car, extreme heat is challenging, and can make the trip less pleasant. What color purse are you making for DGD? I am sure that you’ll find a pattern that you like to work on - and lining it is a great idea! I think most 12 year old girls embrace the concept of a purse, even if it carries nothing more than a hair tie and a chapstick. You are such a thoughtful grandma.
CJ- thanks for the links for the warm wishes quilt. I can see after looking at the pictures that its a row by row kind of construction - so cool how the pattern emerges! Any idea what color scheme you will be using for the quilt? Are cooler temperatures headed your way soon. Its hard to hear about a heat index of 121 degrees. Yesterday was awful near my house also.
I worked again with that new driver today. She has so much to learn, her former employer really did not provide adequate training. She is willing to learn and has a kind heart. Think she will be a good driver overall. Its nice to be home now and not to have to return to work this afternoon. I did get to see some of my kids from last year....I was happy to see them.
Well, I have trigger thumb (self diagnosed) so I have to behave myself. It came out of the blue, and most likely from texting. I do not text all that much- but have noticed that that is the main activity that aggrivates my thumb the most. Thankfully, crochetting seems not to be impacted as much- I was able to get a row done with no difficulty.
Thankfully here the weather broke and its cloudy but MUCH cooler today. Both today and tomorrow are supposed to be in the low 70’s. Not very sunny at all, but so much more pleasant.
Hope Meg gets to Knitwits today!!! Hi to Phyl, hope she is feeling pain free.
GInny

Ruth, what a funny story about the mailbox key!!! Think we can all relate to that....or have had that happen too.

Good morning all. Ginny, you have such a kind heart. I'm sure the driver will learn a lot from you and I'm glad she's open to learning.I'm sorry to hear about the thumb problem. I'm glad it doesn't impact your crocheting. I've had thumb problems and they can be stressful when you can't do what you need to do. The purse is brown and yellow. DGD used to love Zebras a few years ago so wanted everything in black and white like a Zebra. Then about six months ago she sent me a thank you note for something and mentioned that she now likes giraffes and giraffe colors. Well brown and yellow isn't exactly giraffe colors but as close as I can get. This spike stitch I'm doing is made by, after the main color, doing a row of color B with 2, 2 row drop stitches into one stitch, the a row of main color again, they a row of color B in which you drop the stitch down to the middle of the dropped or spike stitches that you made in that previous row thus forming kind of a flower looking thing..Confusing to explain but here's a link to the pattern with pictures melodys-makings.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/10/Essentials-Purse.pdfToday I'm going to get everything together to take so that I'm all ready then I can spend the weekend doing some cleaning. Is anyone else strange like I am in that I want my house sparkling while I'm gone in case something happens and people have to come to my house to take care of "my affairs"

Ruth you crack me up!!! When we go away, I like the house sparkling.....everything clean, everything put away, everything spotless! (Now I am not a perfect housekeeper, but I do the best I can). It drives DH nuts.....he would walk away from our house and leave things looking like a pig sty. I just like to come home to that feeling that “the maid” was here while I was gone, and that I am not facing a mountain of housework upon return home.
THe purse is adorable and is a nice sweet design.....I like the pattern cause it is not overwhelming but makes the purse interesting. Very pretty...

Yes that's definitely another benefit to having the house clean when you leave is that you get to come home to a really nice clean house and can just sit and rest up from the trip...well except for laundry of course
I made the purse a little different and a little easier. I just made the two bottom sections of the spike stitches then a wide band of brown, a three row band of yellow then a two band row of brown on the top. I'm done with the body of the purse....could have had it made the first day but slacked off... I just need to do the flap and the strap. and then the lining of course but I think that might be after we get back. Oh and mine is a little larger than the pattern calls for. I used a bigger hook so that I could get it another inch wider and since I'm lining it the stitches didn't need to be so tight but actually I'm sure since it's all sc that it would be tight enough even if you didn't want to line.
Oh and I looked back at the Christmas tree skirt pattern and it calls for Caron simply soft yarn ( I used RHSS) and it said 40 oz which comes to 6 full skeins and about half of another so a little over 1970 and probably more like 2000 yards at least for the 4 foot wide one. I don't know offhand how many yards are in a skein of RHSS but I think about the same as Simply Soft which has 315 yards/skein. Nice thing about both those yarns is they're readily available at Walmart and have no dye lot so you can go back and get more if need be.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - That purse is cute! Hope you get everything done so you'll be ready for the trip. I always think of how I might go out of my house someday and not come back and I'd hate for people to find it like it looks, with all the decluttering that is needed Ginny - Hope your thumb is feeling better soon. The larger Warm Wishes quilt I want to make has a floral print for the squares and a soft green, a lilac and a pink for the strip sets. The floral has those colors in it and these fabrics look really pretty together. It's not as hot here today, but still around 90 degrees. It's supposed to be much cooler this weekend in the low 70s with rain and storms. I'm hoping I can open the windows some of the weekend to let some of the heat out of the house. Here's a link to the latest issue of Pat Sloan's Merry and Bright quilt. This week she gave the instructions for the setting blocks for the quilts, so you can see in the pictures where quilters have already made them and started their settings. I like the setting blocks and layout for this quilt and the pictures of them in Christmas fabric are so fun to look at: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/merry-bright/Take care everyone!

Good evening!!!
CJ- so before I forget my block numbers, I like #9 a lot- its probably my favorite, but #3 makes me smile!! I imagine a pink and light green Christmas theme! So cute. So sorry to hear that you are still in such hot weather. The weather channel seems to indicate that your general area might be getting a lot of rain which I hope cools things off. Its a bit scarey hearing about hurricane Florence- that is something both of us might have to be concerned with. You are a bit inland - if I remember correctly- as am I- but still these storms can cause a lot of trouble. I am sure you are watching the forcast as I am also. Do what you can to secure your home- and thank goodness you have a new, secure roof. Your warm wishes quilt sounds so very lovely- soft green, lilac and pink is such a pretty combo of colors! When do you think you will start the quilt?
Ruth, well totally agree that its a pleasure coming home to a clean house. this will be a busy weekend for you getting things done and cleaning up. You bet- one of the best things about RHSS yarn is that there is no dye lot! It sure makes things easier if you run out of yarn and need to get more. I have never worked with Caron simply soft.... The purse for your DGD has come together so quickly and must be adorable! Wish we could all see her face when she opens the gift!!
So, I built a fire in the firepit and tried to clean up the yard a bit while watching the fire. I love the man dearly, but Dh is a slob, and the very area I cleaned up only a week ago is a mess already.(grrrrrrrrr). So the first thing I did when I came inside was schedule another pickup for Big Brothers Big Sisters at the end of the month. Still have so very much to get rid of, and well I am going to start to get a little bit ruthless this time. So much we have in the house that has not been used ever (stuff from my mom’s house) or in many years. So its time to clear things out- and I will still have too much stuff here!!!
My thumb is still a bit quirky.....will see if I can get any crochetting in. If it bothers me I will rest it. Looks like we are in for a few rainy days... even without Florence. We have cooler temps too, which allows me to open the windows. I am very thankful for that!! Guess I have babbled enough for one day.
Hi to Meg and Phyl..... Ginny

hi girls, our trip to quilt expo turned out to be a bit of a adventure.
I posted on last night's owl and today's train if you would like to read about it.
I almost wrote a novel. DO not know how to copy paste and send .other wise I could have sent the post to all the threads I am on.
I can say I only bought 1/2 yard fabric at the show. I did by small things. no patterns or kits.
my dsil theresa is the only person we ran into that we knew.the place was packed.
nita and I missed getting together at he show.she kept calling my home phone instead of the cell. I think what happened is I do not have voice mail on my phone. never set it up. so when she called the cell it would be sent to my home phone.
as if it wasn't enough shopping at quilt expo I went to our local quilt shop and bought quilt shop and bought 12 fat quarters. these are for the paper piecing class in october. so now I think I have all I need.
betty said judy neibuer /neimeyer patterns are compalicated. she likes to use newspaper type paper tears easy. betty likes to use copy paper.
oh my have nita and I bit off more then we can chew? phyl

Hopefully Florence will go off to sea and not impact anyone. Best to be prepared though and yes, I know it's a relief to you, CJ, to have that roof all repaired.
Phyl, I didn't read about your adventure but since you mentioned an adventure I'm sure that it was trying. I'm glad all worked out.
Good morning to everyone. I was up early today. Last night I finished the day reading what is called a cozy mystery.nice clean reading in this one. Earlier I started a coin purse for dgd using the waistcoat stitch. I had never done it before but loved the look so tried and it's really a lot of fun to do and much easier than I thought it would be. I'm also going to put in a zipper which I've never done with crochet items before but in looking at videos it looks pretty easy so we'll see if it really is. I have the purse all done except for sewing on the strap which is all made, and the button and of course the lining. Today I plan to look thru my fabric to see if I some fabric that will work. If so I might make the liner and then take it with me to work on while on our trip as I plan to hand sew it in. I've never sewn a crochet item on my sewing machine so I have no idea how that would work. I'll have to try a swatch sometime and check. I see people online machine sewing but it seems as though the crochet part would get stuck,I don't know.
