Good morning all. There's still a few minutes of morning left here. Happy Monday and Happy Labor Day. It's been a beautiful weather weekend so I hope not too many were killed and injured while celebrating without thinking of the consequences.
I finally just laid out my tree skirt and measured again and I found that it's 53 inches so main part is done!!! Now for the edging and weaving in of what seems like a thousand ends and it will be completely finished. It should be finished by the time we take our little trip which is a week from tomorrow. It will be great to have it completed and also to complete the other things I'm going to send at the same time.
We have no Labor Day plans. Dh is napping and I'm going to do some more cleaning and some cooking and that's about it. Of course I'll be working on this tree skirt edging and who knows... I may have it done by the end of the day. I don't know if I should weave in the ends (which are at the ends of the rows) before I put the edging on or if I should try crocheting the edging over the loose ends. I'll have to see how the first little bit goes and then decide.
Ginny, does your babysitting start tomorrow? Do you have the the children every day... I guess you would.
Phyl, take it easy with your back hurting. Don't do too much and make it worse.
CJ and Meg, I hope you both have a good day also. I'm going to go now and read the instructions for the edging and see which one I want to do.

I definitely should have read these instructions before. The "border" is only for the sides where you create a button or a tie to fasten the skirt together. you don't put an edging around the whole thing so this whole tree skirt should be done today!!!

Good evening!
Ruth, congratulations on pretty much completing the tree skirt!! Wow, that went quickly,- at least for us it did!! How do you like the finished product? Bet its so pretty and is a very unique tree skirt that I know will be cherished for many generations.
Phyl- did you get your laundry and cleaning done? I too wish safe travels for all on the road today. How are you feeling?
Hi To Meg and CJ- hope you both had a safe and productive day.
Still doing lots of cleaning, got rid of more stuff and some super old papers. When the plastic bins return to the attic they will be much better organized and MUCH lighter. Got some crochet time in also while chatting with Dh over coffee.
We babysit 1 whole day and 2, half days. Tomorrow is a half day. Early in the am I am taking my friend to Lowes, her husband has been sick and I think she needs cheering up and to get away from him for a little bit. I just need to get some paint from Lowes....and we will get coffee on the way there....we usually have a lot of fun together.
Going to watch some TV and crochet. Have a good night Ginny

Ginny, it's great of you to take your friend to Lowe's. Yes I'm sure it will help her a lot to get out of the house for awhile. And who doesn't like to go out with a friend for coffee. I'm glad you got a couple chances today to do some crocheting. Soon your blanket will be done also.
But no, I didn't do the edging today. I'll do it tomorrow after we get home from a little shopping. The rest looks great. I know ds and ddil will love it and they kids will really love it. It will look so nice in their living foom under the tree.
Have a great night's sleep everyone and a great day tomorrow. See you in the morning or after I get home.

Good morning! Ruth, what color is the edging on the tree skirt? Is it a reverse single crochet- think if my memory serves me correctly, that is what we had discussed last week. Of course, I could be way way wrong. May your shopping go efficiently and that they have everything you are looking for. Were you able to figure out a nice gift for DGD? Think her birthday was coming up soon....
Up early this am- so I got my walk in, and have been to Lowes and back. This trip to Lowes could have waited, but I think my friend wanted to get out and probably needed a good laugh.I am blessed to have her in my life..... We often think alike and had a good time on our short trip. Yes, I got my paint and hope to start that project in a day or so. Its a tiny bathroom, and just needs freshening up.
Babysitting today.... so I will get our dinner in the crockpot so its done later on.
Have a good morning. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today It's just so hot here I didn't feel like posting yesterday. We're supposed to have the hot weather through Thursday and then maybe it will only be in the 80s on Friday. I'm definitely tired of this heat. I hope we'll have a nice Fall/Autumn, but it seems like in the last several years it just goes from hot to cold(ish) without many days of that lovely 60-70 degree weather which I like. Hope you are all getting to do some crafting too and have a great day!

Good morning Ginny and all who will come in later.
Ginny, you get more done first thing in the morning than I get done all day. I need to do my bathroom too but it still has wallpaper. It's a nice wall covering w ith a small motif that goes well with everything in there but it needs to go. Looking at it, it looks like the wall is not at all smooth under the vinyl covering so will need sanding. The wall covering seems to peel off easily though so one good thing
No I haven't bought anything for my dgd yet. Her birthday is at the end of this month. Ddil said she didn't even know what to get her but she would ask her what kinds of things she would like but I haven't heard yet. I guess I'll ask her myself in an email.
I didn't do the edging yesterday because I didn't really understand the directions so I emailed the designer. She emailed back with some really clear instructions so I'm all set now. It was so nice of her to take that time. And when I looked at the edging instructions yesterday I found that it's not a reverse single crochet after all but, yes, I did say it was. There are two choices. One is brick stitch and the other is picot "if you don't want the edging so thick" she said. Also two options for holding it together..button or tie.
Well I'd better get busy and make my list before I forget what I need to buy while out. Thanks for the good wishes on a successful shopping trip
Be back later.

Good afternoon!
Busy day here, and I am really glad to be home. Waiting for Dd to return from her first day of work as a teacher. No kids yet, they will be going in tomorrow.
CJ- so totally agree, I am SO tired of this hot weather. Just a few more days and we get fall temps- well cooler temps at least. Really looking forward to the weekend, as I am sure you are also. At least the heat wave will be over with. Hope you can find something fun to do that will keep you comfortable too.
Ruth, how sweet of the desiger to get back to you so quickly! I am sure you can figure out your own border if you so not like what she suggests. Hope that shopping trip was a success.
Good enough day babysitting. Got a call from work, they want me to work ! Ha ha ha. I will go in on the first day of school am only....just to help work with a new driver. Maybe Friday am also....but that will be about it.
Hope to get some hooking time in later on. Hi to Meg and Phyl too! Ginny

Yes she actually got back to me twice because the first time she misunderstood what I was asking so the second time she clarified. It is a nice edging so I'll probably go with the brick stitch one to match the outside ring..this is going to be on the inside edges where it will go together to form the circle and the inside ring that goes around the tree trunk.
Ginny, yes you did have another busy day. And it sounds like they're probably going to be calling on you for help pretty often. The kids here did start back today to classes. It was still busy in Walmart but then ended up going to two other stores. We had intended to go to the walking trail but dh wasn't feeling very well and was having palpitations so we just came home instead.
CJ, Meg, and Phyl, I hope you all had a great day.
Even though yesterday got up to 92 today was much cooler and got to only about 72.

Good morning!
Ruth, I am sorry to hear that Dh was not feeling well enough to walk yesterday- but its a nice thing that he was willing to give it a try! Perhaps another day he will want to get out for a walk. Bet even a few minutes of walking will feel good. The tree skirt designer is a real class act- gettng back to you to clarify what her intent was. Bet this tree skirt is magnificent!! So happy for you that you finished it so early. I can imagine with a dense stitch like the brick stitch, its a heavy project. How many skeins of yarn did it take?
DGD starts her first day of school today! Dd just sent me a picture of her on line to enter the school.....she is ready to go I am sure its a bittersweet moment for her....but something every parent eventually goes through.
Trying to make some sense of what came out of the attic. Little by little I am making headway - getting rid of a lot of stuff and making better decisions about how to store things. I did get some crochet time in. I have not measured the afghan in ahwile, but figure I am 2/3 done Cannot wait for this to be over and start on kids hats and Christmas ornaments.
Have a blessed day all.....hot here again today and tomorrow. Then it looks like we rea in for cooler temps for a week. Ginny

Good morning everyone.
Ginny, as you said, it's a bittersweet experience when you send your firstborn and then later your baby to school for the first time. I hope your dgd enjoys it and has a good experience at school. I'm also thinking of your dd and her first day of teaching and meeting her students.
Yes going thru things that we've had stored is interesting. Sometimes we find treasures and sometimes things that we wonder why we even held onto. I still have to put my things back in the storage space. Maybe I'll get to that today. I didn't crochet at all yesterday so the skirt is still awaiting the edging. The whole thing is three rows of red alternating with three rows of white and I have no idea actually of how many skeins of yarn it took. I should have counted my skeins before I started so that I would know how many I used.I always think of these things when it's too late.Since I started and ended with white I guess I'll make the edging around the inner circle in white also. And yes, this is quite heavy. My dh even mentioned about the cost of sending it.But since they live so far away it's the only way to get things to them and it's sure worth it when, as yesterday, we get the cutest and best thank you notes
Ginny, I know you'll be happy to have the baby blanket completed. I think we all have the feeling that whatever our current project is, we can't wait to get going on our next one.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I hope your DGD has a good first day of school. They are so cute at that age. Ruth - Hope you have time today to get to the tree skirt project. Meg and Phyl - Hope you get some crafting in too. It's really hot here again, heat index was 114 degrees outside my house this afternoon I haven't been doing much of anything because of the heat, but the weekend looks like it will be better. Here's a quilting project I want to try sometime. I have a lot of panels and scenic fabrics, since I'm really drawn to them and buy too many of them www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCdwdk2tsnkTake care everyone!

CJ, I think all of you have to come here where it's cooler. It's been in 70's last few days. I'm going to go look at that site you posted CJ. I think we're all guilty of buying too much of something we like. It's done!!! Completely done, all ends taken care of and all. I'm glad I did the brickstitch edging on the sides as that brings it all together. in between the sides where you go around the inner ring she calls for an interesting edging. You do a slip stitch/ch1/slip stitch in every other foundation stitch and it makes a REALLY beautiful edging for that. I've never seen anything edged like that before and I'll definitely be using it again. Dh mentioned cost of shipping it again .
