Good morning
Been trying to keep up with Florence- no that is not all that I do, but when you live where you can be impacted by such a large storm its important to stay informed.
Phyl- what kind of fabric did you get at Hobby Lobby- I wonder if that is the batik you were chatting about the other day to go with the leaves fabric. What kind of wall hanging will you be making? Some people really suffer from side effects, I am really happy to learn that you are not one of them. I pray that this therapy is effective for you and maintains your blood levels for a very long time.. Sounds like you had a perfect day- bummin’ with Delona! I have not been to an Arby’s in many years, the one closest to me closed about 10 years ago. I know they used to have some nice salads, in addition to their sandwiches. Those decorative outdoor flags sure are cute!!! Not sure if I have the wherewithall to change flags for the seasons, I am challenged plenty enough to change out the wreath on my front door 3 times a year. I am sure your flag looks so cute, and has great fall colors. Hope it makes you smile when you see it!!!
NO crochetting for me yesterday, my thumb needed to be rested and it does seem better today. We babysit today also....so I might get some hooking time in during naps. Gotta say I am a bit concerned about Meg- she had some blood work done, and doctors appointments. Prayers are with her too that she is ok. Ruth and Dh, hope your trip is going well and you are blessed with good weather! CJ, do you have any contact with your family in Va and NC- have they evacuated and are they safe? Stay safe yourself CJ- this storm seems rather unpredictable.

I do hope your family and friends are out of harm's way CJ. My brother and two neices live in NC.. I think my db lives near Raleigh so is inland some. One neice (his daughter) I think lives in Cherry Hill but I don't know for sure. I don't know where the other one lives.
Ginny, I hope you're thumb is well soon and you can get back to your crafting. I only have read a little bit of what I missed but I see that you have the baby blanket almost done! Congratulations on that
I do hope Meg is ok. Maybe she's just being kept busy with iron infusions or something and then there's the heat.
OH by the way, we're home now. I'm thanking God for safe travel and appreciate the prayers of friends.
Phyl, I know you're going to love the finished products on your quilting. And I would say that if you didn't have side effects by now you probably won't but who knows with these new meds they're making
I'll be back later.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I hope your relatives will be alright. I'm glad you had a safe trip, hope you enjoyed getting away. Ginny - I hope your thumb continues to improve. We still have Arby's around where I live but I rarely go there because of the calories. The sandwich I like the best (Smokehouse Brisket) has 600 calories! I do love the curly fries though. One fast food place that I miss is Long John Silvers. They don't always get the best reviews but I always liked their fish and hush puppies. Phyl - I'm glad that you found some fabric for your backing and that you had a good time with Delona yesterday. Meg - Hope you are feeling well and getting in some crafting. It was around 80 here today with a few showers. Very humid too. I talked to my relative in VA and they are alright and probably won't be impacted too much, but I do have a relative in New Bern, NC and that looks very bad there with flooding. They didn't evacuate so I hope they'll be O.K. My other relatives are over toward the center/western part of NC so they might just get rain/wind. I cut some fabric last night for a small 16x16 quilt in the Amish style. It's from a book I had that was by Nancy Zieman (Sewing with Nancy). There are only 3 fabrics used - solid black, solid red, and solid purple. I fortunately had enough scrap pieces for it. I hope to piece it together in the next few days and I want to hand quilt it since they had a design to use in the book. Take care everyone!

Good to see you CJ, thanks for the good wishes for safe travel for my dh and me. My relatives in NC seem to live west of Raleigh. My brother did live a little east of Raleigh but they bought a house and moved so I don't know where too but I'd bet that they don't live far from there. My one neice did live in Chapel Hill, not Cherry Hill but now lives in a suburb west of Raleigh and I'm not sure where the other is but I imagine it's somewhere right arund there.
The Amish style quilt sounds interesting. It also sounds like you're getting your desire to quilt back
We do have Arby's here and one is quite close but we never go there. My son loved Arby's and was a picky eater so we would take him there often. My dh liked one of their shakes but I'm not sure which one it was. We haven't been there in years and years. The sandwiches always look so good on the commercials on tv but sadly not when you see them in person. I'm sure I'd love their cheese sticks. I love anything deep fried but like you don't like the calories.
The nice thing about the trip we were on we didn't go out to eat so eating was within my plan At the motel they had an outstanding breakfast buffet.I got there yesterday but today was too late. I was waiting for dh to wake up because he had awakened at 3am and stayed up till about 7 and went back to sleep. I thought the buffet was until 10 but it was only until 9 and when he got up he told me that so I rushed to the dining area and sure enough the hot food was being put away but I was able to get some yogurt and juices for us and iced tea which was for dh. I had coffee I made i the room
I also got some walking in and I also crocheted a little bit

Welcome Home Ruth!!! gee the trip seemed to pass quickly...I hope that you and Dh had a really nice time and took in some beautiful scenery. Prayers for your family in NC. Sounds like some areas of that state have been hit hard with flooding.
CJ-prayers too for your family in New Bern! That was one of the areas in the news....they have had some issues with water there, but I know that the construction of homes is meant to protect against hurricanes. My prayer is that they are safe and will be able to stay safe for as long as is necessary. Please let us know how your family members are and if you hear from them. Your new quilt sounds so pretty and very simple. (I like simple quilts!). What a joy to have a Nancy Zieman quilt....I am sure you will finish it off and it will look so nice.
Staying up late here, waiting for Dd to come home. She had open house at school tonight, and was supposed to be home about an hour ago. I pray that she is ok.... Oh, the joys of motherhood.
Babysat today. Kids were pretty good. I spoke to my DSIL in Florida, and she had something similar to what I am feeling with my thumb. Well, they make a thumb brace, which I ordered today (DSIL had one and it helped a lot). I rested it again today, and figure I can wear the brace on bad days. It does seem to be improving a bit- and resting it helps.
I am working again tomorrow am only. DD just got home......so I can get some sleep.
Have a blessed night all. Ginny

Good morning, Ruth, sounds as though you had a lovely trip. Congrats on staying within your eating plan! Think we all love those hotel bufffets, and normally there are some really nice options- like fresh fruit and yogurt if you are not interested in the hot food items served. At least you were able to get some yogurt and iced tea for Dh. Travelling does make for an interesting challenge if you are trying to stay OP. Anyway welcome home! Bet your bed felt good last night.
Drove again this morning.....they asked me to drive this afternoon which I turned down. I did not sleep well last night and while I will not take a nap, I do want to get some bills done here.
Prayers for those in Florence’s path.....CJ- especially praying for your family in the New Bern area, which I hear was hit hard with flooding. I have heard good things about the rescue efforts there, and am optimistic that your family is ok.
Got laundry to do today and check some banking issues.....have a blessed day Ginny

Thank you Ginny and CJ. Phyl, many times a plain and neutral color fabric really makes the other colors you're using stand out. I think all of you are very talented in quilt making. Wish I could say the same but I've never tried quilting except for that one series of classes I told you about. I did like it a lot. I found an amazing way to put a zipper into a pouch that could be used in many, many ways. I can't believe how easy it is that way and I can't believe all the ways I've already thought of to vary the pattern to use different stitches, make it different sizes and shapes, etc. Here's the link in case you want to check it out megmadewithlove.com/blog-2/2018/3/6/free-crochet-pattern-and-tutorial-for-zippered-pouchesGinny, I thought that would be the case when they asked you if you would remain available to fill in when needed that they would be calling you a LOT. I saw that you are going to be doing driver evals and I know you said you like doing that. I know you're very good at it too because you are a very kindhearted person yet you have definite standards and would not give a good eval just to please the driver being evaluated if you thought children would be endangered by their driving. It was very hot when we were on our trip. It broke records. Now that we're home it's hot here...until next Thurs when the high will be only 65 Thankfully Florence didn't end up being a cat4 as they said it would be but there is terrible flooding. I'm praying for your family CJ.I just saw that it's known that 3 have died as a result of the storm...one a storm induced heart attack and two from a tree falling on their house. My friend on another thread has a daughter in Myrtle Beach but she evacuated two days ago.

Indeed prayers are out for CJ’s family in New Bern. Looks like that area saw some severe flooding, and I do pray that wherever her family are they are safe and sound. I am sure CJ will be on pins and needles until she knows for sure that her loved ones are ok.
Ruth- so sorry you saw a heat wave while gone! travelling in the heat is no fun, even with air conditioning in a car the heat off the pavement can be miserable. I did just check out your weather on my phone, (I have your area as one of my weather locations) and the temperature swings you are going to see are crazy. 93 on Saturday and 65 on Thursday!!! We actually took out a window AC the other day to let in more daylight.....with those temps you would not be able to do that. Thanks for the info on zippered pouches, which I will check out when I get off this.
Phyl, I am sure that the beige fabric will help pop the leaf colors and look wonderful. I am sure you have a good eye for this. Don’t sweat the small gain, it could be water- get back on track, log those points and get to the Y when you can. You can do this!!!
Earlier this am I stopped at my church and dropped off the class catalog for the large LQS- we are hoping to attend a class together. I am waiting for her to email me with her class selections... we will see which one we can get in to.
Its overcast here, a little bit warm. I am tired, but hope to get a short walk in after I clean up from dinner. THen perhaps I will read. Dh and I slept poorly last night (waiting for Dd to come home). I am sure I will be in bed early. Hope that our Meg is ok.... Ginny

It does look as though Meg hasn't been here in awhile. I hope she's feeling ok. I know that sometimes she just doesn't feel like posting but we do worry and we miss her.
Well even though that method makes it look like making a zippered pouch with it would be easy, after putting the zipper in the pouch I already made for dgd I found that it's really hard to get even a needle though a zipper so I don't know how easy it would be to put a crochet hook through one. If I could master doing that I'd be thrilled because once you got the crochet stitches in the zipper, as I mentioned earlier, there are just so many possibilities. I did find that I need more practice getting the stitches even in the zipper so I'm wondering if I should just go with using my sewing machine and sewing the zipper to the liner (I didn't put a liner in my pouch and it doesn't show one in the link I posted earlier either) but I saw another tutorial showing sewing the zipper to a liner and that looks really easy...well it is easy. I just was too lazy to change to my zipper foot or I would have done that and lined this little pouch. I'm going to line the matching purse but no zipper as it already has a nice flap.
Yes our weather is strange and can change drastically in minutes. I'm sure that happens other places too but I was sure surprised when we first moved here and it dropped by about 40 degrees or more in just 20 minutes.
Actually when driving home that hot day it wasn't bad because we were driving out of the sun and it was breezy too. The evening before when I took my walk though it was very hot and the sun even hurt my eyes.

Good morning!
Hoping that our Meg is ok.....would love to hear from her when she gets a chance. Also thinking and praying for those so harshly impacted by Florence. I look forward to hearfing from CJ with news that her family members are ok.
Ruth, nice to hear that you got a walk in!! The closest thing I have done to installing a zipper is making one of those kitchen towel hangers, which has you crochet a top on a cloth towel. That first row, its sotr of a blanket stitch, is challenging getting the stitches evenly spaced. Then you crochet into that. IMO I figure that using a machine would go easier. G

Good morning everyone.
Yes I do worry about Meg.I hope we hear from her and I hope CJ will hear from her family that they're ok. I'm praying for both
Ginny, I've made a couple of those towel toppers and I sure agree that getting those stitches on evenly is definitely a challenge. I keep looking at the designers' sites and see them not getting them even either but it bothers me when mine are not even so I agree that sewing on the zipper would be the easiest. You just sew it onto flat fabric then do the sides of your liner, turn it rightside out then put it into whatever it is that you're lining and either sew the top edge by hand or machine...much easier than trying to force a crochet hook thru a zipper and, as you said, get it all even. When I have time I might practice more because I have a lot of zippers I can use to practice.Although I might just abandon that whole thing once I try the sewing the zipper. If I find we're right about it being much easier I won't even bother with the crochet thru the zipper method. It looked so easy on that site I posted yesterday.
I did see a lot of coin and clutch purses made with zippers and linings and they looked so nice that I really want to make a bunch of those. I could probably make a bunch to take to the rescue mission for the homeless people to use inside their backpacks. When looking thru my fabric I found a lot of fabric that would be really nice for using for that purpose and I did find the perfect piece of fabric to line dgd's purse I made for her.i
I was also looking at another site that had a video of that "knit" or waistcoat stitch and this person did it differently than the person I initially saw make items using that stitch. I think this second method would make the finished item denser but otherwise it pretty much looks the same after it's completed
Ok gotta go cook. See y'all later

Ruth, it sounds like you have figured out a decent method of making coin and clutch purses. They would be so useful for the rescue mission- I would imagine that a key issue with those in a mission is the lack of personal items and a means to store them. Those purses and clutches would be a huge blessing to those in need.
Cleaning up a bit here, going through the contents of the attic and doing a pretty good job of consolidating and eliminating.
My hand/thumb brace arrived, and its great. I do believe I can get some crochetting done with it on. The hand is getting better anyway, with limited use of medical tape fo keep the thumb immobilized. Now with this brace, I am much more functional and the thumb is better protected.
Prayers continue for those impacted by Florence, and especially CJ’s family. G

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all enjoying your weekend Ruth - That zipper crochet pouch is interesting, I enjoyed reading about that pattern. Hope it works for you, or if not that you can make some of the other pouches. Ginny - I'm glad you received your brace and that it is helping. And it's great that you can still crochet with it on. Phyl - I've been surprised every time I look for a beige or neutral fabric in my stash and don't find any. I guess those colors are just not ones that I'd normally buy unless it was for a project. I'm glad you found what you needed. Meg - I hope the weather there is good and your doing well. Please check in when you can. Thanks for all the thoughts and prayers on my relatives in NC. I haven't found out how the ones made out in New Bern yet since I have to contact their elderly relatives to see what's happening. I wanted to wait a few days so I didn't stress the parents, since I'm sure they are concerned too. But hopefully everything is well. I dreamed last night that someone gave me two embroidered pillowcases and the stitches were so tiny and perfect. Even when I dream I feel like I'm not up to standards I did finish the small Amish quilt and I like it. I'm going to do another one from the book too. Here's the book I'm using (I found it at a quilt show on the guild table and probably only paid a few dollars for it, a good deal): www.amazon.com/Amish-Quilts-Stories-Techniques-Sewing/dp/B07B9TXGHL/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1537039886&sr=8-1&keywords=sewing+with+nancy+amish+quilts&dpID=51NlZldI8CL&preST=_SX258_BO1,204,203,200_QL70_&dpSrc=srch The quilt I made is the diamond one in the bottom left hand corner of the book cover. I used the red, black and purple fabric too. Take care everyone!
