Even my friends noted what a boring person I was to have breakfast with. I had oatmeal and fruit salad- while they (including Dh) ate belly buster breakfasts. For me what stunk was that the coffee was too strong....we had a good time so it was not a loss at all!!
As far as decluttering goes, I have SO much to do. Think I am getting toward the end of what I can accomplish for now....until Dd and Ds move out, which I we are not at all in a hurry to do. But if you ask me, within the next 3 or 4 years we will truly be empty nesters....for now am enjoying having them home.

HI GIRLS, For the blocks I like the sample one,27,34,33. because these seem to be the ones the one stars stand out the most, with the best background fabrics.
I agree fall isn't really here till october in my book. when it gets rainy, cooler, windy, leaves start falling and I have to get out jeans and a sweatshirt for all day and frost, that is fall..

Phyl, leaves have already started falling here and next week, during the night it's going to get as low as 31. I'm glad to hear that you found some more fabric that you need and want.
Ginny, yes you sure are a healthy eater. I have oatmeal with fruit and kefir at home every day but if I went out to breakfast I know I'd be too tempted to be able to resist.I even love McD's hotcakes and sausage breakfast. And no, don't be in any hurry for the children to leave. My dd had six and now has only one left at home and is already depressed about being an empty nester.
So now tomorrow we'll take our old car and do some shopping. We were going to go today but then found that we had to do a couple other things instead.
I still haven't started on my crocheting so it's been two full days with none done and none so far today either. I need to get busy.

Sorry for not checking in. I have been having trouble with my eyes. Just bad air quality which I hope will change when we get some rain. That wont happen for a few weeks I hope it will freshen air . I do stay home a lot and have done some crafting but not a lot. The temps. are lower in the low 90s and the 80.
Now I am off to bed. You all take care.

Meg, you are family so we worry about you when you're not here especially since you had that trip to ICU last year. I'm glad you're ok and I hope your eyes clear up soon Very chilly here today and now they're saying that it's going to get down to 33 tonight. Dh was planning on going to his back today but now he's changed his mind but we might still go to Walmart. We want to get some floor mats for our new car. Did you all know that a lot of new cars don't come with even the little donut spare tire now? That was one of the extras I had them throw in with the deal we settled on. The car does come with an inflator kit but there are many circumstances under which that wouldn't work.I just feel better having some kind of spare. When dh mentioned that some of the cars he saw for sale online didn't come with a spare I was skeptical but I found that it's true. No floor mats either but then I don't think we got floor mats with most of our cars that we bought new and when we did buy new it was many years ago.The little Ford we have came with mats but it was my son that bought that car. I didn't do any crocheting again last evening so today I really do have to get to it. I want to get the things done that need to be done for the birthdays then I can work on other things. I saw a pattern for a Christmas decoration I'd like to make for the kids..they call it a bunting. Basically it's a chain with little stockings on it called an Advent bunting. I'm going to put 10 little stockings on it since there are 10 in the family and put a little candy in each one and they can hang it by their tree that has the beautiful tree skirt under it The pattern is actually in UK terms so I'll write it out so that I don't make mistakes by using the UK directions by mistake as I go along. Of course there are many patterns for little stockings aka baby booties so I don't really have to use that pattern actually but I will probably. Ok I'm going to do a little crocheting before we go out...if we go. See you later

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today The weather here is still in the 80s and humid, but we're supposed to get some cooler weather next week. I went ahead and put my portable AC away for the season, I think I can manage with the fans for any hot days I might still get. I went to JoAnn fabrics this morning and bought a few yards of some solid fabrics - one was teal and the other was a dull gray. Strange colors for me but they match the colors in the small Amish quilts in that book I mentioned. I also bought several fat quarters of some solid color fabrics. I'm surprised how few solid color fabrics I have, I guess I'm just more attracted to the patterned fabrics. I used a coupon to buy a few more of the pillows so I can make some of more of those flannel shirt covers for them (from my father's shirts). Hopefully I'll get a bunch of them made this fall and I can give at least one to each of my brothers. Take care everyone!

CJ- what a lovely idea to make flannel shirt pillows for your brothers!! Serves 2 purposes, they make nice gifts and commemorate your dad. Now that you figured out the directions these should go quickly. Did Joanns have any good sales?? I love the teal/gray combination- find it very striking. But I agree, it seems somewhat out of character for you, based upon the colors you chat about. Congrats on putting your AC away!! Fall weather has to get there sooner or later, and you will need sweaters and flannels.
Meg- we are just glad you are ok!!! I am glad I thought about emailing you (why did it take so long for me to remember to do that?). Ruth is right, we are a happy little family here...and if one of us is missing or not well we all feel the pain.
Phyl- glad you and Delona got that much needed bummin’ day in!!! I totally agree, Kohls is hit or miss....I either go there and want half the store or walk out empty handed wondering why I wasted my time. Hey at least you did not spend more money there! Now even as hot as it was, I stayed in my jeans all summer. But there is something so comforting about a sweatshirt......cannot wait to take those out!! Thanks for the reminder that HL also sells fabric! Glad they had a nice background fabric for you.
Ruth, yep, there is a lot of stuff that does not come in the new cars. Good instruction manuals are included on that list, which is why I suggested going online for help. Now how they expect you to have a car without floor mats is beyond me. With a typical NY winter a car without car mats would look absolutely awful in no time. Hope you can get some crochetting time in later on. Are you stil working on the giraffe?? BTW- check that your auto insurance does not cover flat tires. Some insurance companies do...
So I worked this am- did 2 driver evaluations. Then came home and babysat until 3:30. Got dinner made while the baby slept. Becasue of his sprained knee, Dh helped very little- so today was a long day. I am finally getting some time to relax a little.
Got the craft supply list for the table runner class. Will have to call the store tomorrow to get clarification on some items- I do not understand their abbreviations. Hope I am able to make some sense out of what they are asking for. And as I have said earlier, I will get my fabric at Joanns, I have some gift cards for there so it makes sense.
Still wearing the thumb brace, but its improving. I did a fair amount today without it on. If I crochet later on, I will wear the brace just to protect it and so that I do not make things worse. Not working tomorrow, at least they did not call me to. Got some bills to pay, and some banking. Have a good night all Ginny

Meg glad to see you and know your are alright.
guess what? I found some more of the background fabric I was looking for in my plastic shoe box tote.no alot but enough strips to make what I need. then I looked at the pattern and think I was reading it wrong.
will find out when I get it ready for sit and sew tuesday.
oh the surprises in life!
think I am going to soak in a warm tub. been up since 4.15. did get a little nap just before noon.
was raining this am.so I picked up hannah to wait for the bus. then it stopped. then about 11 for a few minutes we had a belly washer with wind. did not last long.

Phyl, yes we often do find some nice surprises in our stashes. I hope that you have plenty of fabric now to do the quilt. It rained here today too...for all of about 2 1/2 seconds. There were about 20 raindrops on the windshield. Hannah is a lucky girl to have you take such good care of her in taking her to the bus stop. I'm sure she's happy for the company.I too wear jeans all summer. I do wear shorts in the house and yard but never anywhere else. And I do love sweatshirt weather. There's not much cozier than snuggling up in a nice zipped up sweatshirt. t Ginny, are you speaking of the roadside assistance when you say some insurance companies don't cover flat tires or do you mean that in an accident they won't cover the tires. Yes I'm still working on the giraffe so I need to get him done. I didn't get any crocheting in this morning after all except for one very short row then dh came up all dressed to go out so we went and I haven't got back to crocheting yet. Yes Hobby Lobby has some wonderful fabric. I had never looked at it until I went one day with a woman from Caps for Kids.It does make sense though to get your supplies at Joann's if you have gift cards. Sounds like you had yet another very busy day. Most of us say that once we're retired we don't know how we ever found time to work. REtirement does keep you busy and you are a prime example of that. CJ, I always thought that teal and gray wouldn't go well together and then I started seeing the combo in crochet patterns and I love it! It's kind of like navy blue and that bright green that are the Seahawks colors. One of the leaders of Caps for Kids gave me some of both of those colors in yarn...before the SEahawks used the colors...I thought it would be weird but it isn't at all. I love that combo too. I some solid fabric to add to your patterned fabric sounds like a great idea. It's great you were able to put away the air conditioner esp since you said it keep filling up with water. Before we left on our very short trip dh asked me if I wanted him to take ours out of the window and I told him no so it's still there but he will need to take it out soon and hopefully there won't be anymore really hot day which I'm pretty sure there won't be.And I do think it's a fantastic idea to make those pillows for your brothers. And you all will think I'm nuts but I'm still using my old car. I don't want my new one to get scratches Ok I'm going to go crochet. See you all tomorrow Oh and I was so happy today to see that Walmart is again selling Red Heart with Love yarn!! Of course I had to buy some!!

Congrats on getting that Red Heart Yarn Ruth!!!! I do understand the desire to use the old car, especially at Walmart’s parking lot....there I usually park several counties away to keep the car from getting scratched.
Phyl- that is awesome that you found the fabric!! So glad you got your sewing area straightened up- good enough for you to work in....and bless Don for vacuuming. When he finishes at your house, he can come here and vacuum mine!!
Sitting with Dh this am, just chatting over coffee and my phone rang. Saw it was work, and asked Dh if I ought to answer it.....he said yes.....yup, I went back in to work this am. Just driver evaluations, which is great and I enjoy. Will be doing that for the next 2 weeks....not working this afternoon, however.
I did some hand sewing this am, a repair on a beautiful cotton yarn baby sweater that my mom made when DD#1 was a baby. DGD wore it yesterday, but there was a small tear in the sleeve. My thumb was a little sore, so I will continue to wear the brace, but was happy that I could get that done without much difficulty.
Off for my walk. G

Good morning everyone. It's a very cool day here today. I don't think it actually got down to 33 last night as they predicted.
Ginny, it's always so great when we still have things that were made by our parents or grandparents. My mother never made things but I do have those items I mentioned that were made by my dh's grandmother and his really wonderful stepmother.I also kept things that my children wore when babies to give them to wear on their own children. I'm hoping to make a baby blanket for each of the grandchildren to save for their children.I have two star shaped blankets I'd like to make but they're on my list and not being worked on right now.My dgd did get a blanket for her now 1 year old dd and I started two blankets for the 2 dggs' but haven't finished them yet and they are 2 and just turning 2 in a week. I made the dggd one with yarn I got from a friend who had used it to make a blanket for her dggd.
Today I don't expect to be doing much so hopefully I will concentrate on getting some crocheting done. I did work on it last night making the legs for the giraffe.Today will be at least the back of the body, the backs of the arms and legs and also the two horns and I would say that maybe I'll get it all put together too but probably not. I also want to finish the hat I started for dh while on our trip.
I see Ginny is going to be working although by now you're probably finished. What are the rest of you doing today?

Good evening,
Ruth - you make so much for your family, I am surprised that each family member does not have multiple loving made items that you crochetted!!! I forget, who will be the recipent of the giraffe?? It sounds adorable, and will be so cute! How large is the giraffe going to be? You have a large family- many grandchildren and even a few great grandchildren- so they will keep you “hooking” for sure!!! My mom, who lost my Dad when she was 59, was a prolific crafter. In her later years she concentrated on granny square afghans, and some crewel pictures. She used to knit socks and ties for my dad...my dad insisted that she stay home and not work, so she kept busy with her hands. My daughters had tiny granny square blankets for their barbies, of course their own granny square afghans, and the baby sweaters, which are quite intricate. She also knit. There are so many afghans that I am now donating the extras. But each of my kids has several things she made, plus some awesome memories of a very unique woman who was quite a character. Anyway, hope that you get to make a baby blanket for each of the grands to hand on to their own children. As avid a crafter as you are, I am sure one of your grandchildren will take an interest in crochetting to be like their loving grandma!!
Yup worked this am....then got caught up in laundry and some errands. Its a beautiful fall night here. Such a change from the heat we had last week. Hope to sit down and get some hooking time in G

Hello Crafters
Meg - I'm sorry to hear you've had some trouble with your eyes, I hope they get better soon.
Phyl - I'm glad you found some of the fabric you were looking for. It seems like the leaves are turning later and later each year. I bet they are pretty up there.
Ginny - You sound just as busy in retirement as you were when you were working I hope your thumb continues to improve.
You are right about the fabric colors for these last few little quilts I've been working on. I'm much more attracted to bright colors and prints (like florals), although I do love the reproduction fabrics. So it's a stretch for me to work with a solid color fabric, but I'm enjoying making these little quilts since the patterns are easy and they have a traditional look.
Ruth - I completely understand not wanting to drive your new car. That's part of the reason I've put off buying a new car. I won't want to take it out in the traffic and crazy drivers where I live so I figure I'll just keep putting off buying one until it feels like the right time. At least you know you have a dependable car to use, and that's important too
I went to the Amish market today with a relative. We usually go every few months. I did buy some baked goods and I'm just going to enjoy eating them and not worry about the calories. They also sell soft pretzels and some of them are filled. I bought one that had a beef hot dog and American cheese in it, and another that had pepperoni, mozzarella cheese and pizza sauce. I did buy some green beans too and when I snapped them they were very fresh (which isn't always the case). I cooked them with some country ham and have enough to eat for a few days.
Since I had to get up early the last few days I didn't get much sleep during the night before. I really have trouble falling asleep now. Hopefully I'll catch up on my sleep this weekend.
If any of you like to watch the House Hunting type shows on HGTV, the newest season of "My Lottery Dream Home" starts tonight at 9:00. It's fun to watch people pick a home with lottery winnings, makes me think it's something we might all get to do if we're lucky
Take care everyone!

Ginny, actually everyone in my family does have something that I've made. Most have more than one thing because I've made fingerless gloves one year for Christmas for the ones here and the next year cowls or scarves. They just don't have the baby blankets I intended to give them. My ds' family appreciates the crocheted items more so I tend to make more for them. They even tell me what they like...took awhile to get them to do that because they "didn't want to impose"...as if. And my ds's children asked me to teach them to crochet a few years ago. Actually it was my dgs that asked first so I taught him and the two oldest girls one year when I visited and the parents went away for a few days. I actually didn't teach the second daughter at first because I thought she was too young but when I changed my mind and did she actually caught on better than the older two. Now the younger ones want to learn how.So ddil says I have to move there so that I can teach the younger ones DD's children have shown no interest in learning any kind of crafting. My mother never worked when any of us were still at home either but she never crafted. Her mother sewed and did embroidery but my mother was never interested I guess. It sounds like your mother was very good at knitting and crocheting! You mentioned her making things with granny squares is ironic because just this morning I was thinking about the granny square sweater I made for my youngest grandaughter before she was born. It consisted of many, many tiny squares so you can image all the weaving in of ends I had to do. I wonder what my ddil did with the sweater. If someone had made one of my children sweater like that I would have held onto it forever but I don't know if my ddil did or not. It sure was a LOT of work making it.It had a hood too which was all little squares.I made a few gs afgans back when I started crocheting but haven't made any in a long time. The giraffe is supposedly 22 inches tall according to the pattern designer. He's narrow though and not a typical looking giraffe at all. I'll have to find the link so you can see. CJ, it sounds as if you had a good time at the Amish market and bought some very tasty things. When I eat things that are not on my plan I usually just am very careful the next day and stick to very lean protein and fruits and veggies and it seems to all balance out. And yes, living in a very busy area as you do I would probably never buy a brand new car. As it is I put it off for 18 years as I mentioned.Even now dh didn't really want to get a new one because of having to worry about scratches, etc but, yes we do need a reliable car. It's not like we can call uber or a taxi or take a bus I used to watch those house hunting shows because of my love of seeing how they are laid out. I think I did mention already about loving to see house plans. I haven't watched any of those in a long time though because it makes me sad thinking of people's greed. Single people or a couple with no children and they want a house with 5 bedrooms and 7 bathrooms.Or they can't buy a certain house because it doesn't have a double sink in the master bedroom but they have 3 or more other bathrooms...hey just go to one of the other bathrooms. Who wants to stand at a sinc with someone else anyway even if they are your spouse. Then again the House Hunter's international people buy very tiny homes with one or no bedrooms and they do have children...don't they realize that the children aren't going to remain infants forever? Some man my dh knows from a message board just moved to Japan with his wife and two young daughters and bought a home like that. I think the girls are maybe 3 and 5 or something like that and they all sleep in one room. What about private time?
