Good morning! CJ - sounds like you had a wonderful day going to an amish market with your family. . The few Amish markets I have been to (been to the same one many times) is that they sell amazing handmade products, with quirky but delicious changes to standard recipes. Those pretzels sound so good....as do the green beans. Bet it will be nice not to have to cook for a few days, having the country ham and beans all ready to go!! Yes, I remember you tend toward the floral colors, pinks, lavenders, greens.... nice to leave our normal colors for a project or two. It provides a welcome change for the eye. Ruth,-checked out the giraffe on the web, oh its so cute! You are right about a somewhat non traditional construction, but the end result is believable and adorable. I do not know how you find all these cute projects. That granny square sweater sounds adorable, but awful to construct. Granny squares are pretty and can be made into so many lovely designs. I actually have a pattern for a gs afghan that is a quilt like design. I love it...... would love to make it but how many afghans can we have? Or quilts for that matter. I too love some of the shows on HGTV. I have been known to watch My Lottery Dream home- and take it episode by episode. Same with House Hunters. I slept poorly last night and watched HH International- saw a couple who relocated to Amsterdam. I was basically furious as the couple selected an apartment at the end of the show that met all the husbands desires and none of the wifes. I kind of viewed him as a monster. And yes I have seen episodes where the wife βneedsβ a walk in closet bigger than my bedroom- really? ? Who needs a closet that large! Guess I am too practical a person.. Not sure what today will bring. The one thing I want to do is get rid of all the hazardous chemicals from our shed- we have a hazardous chemical recycling day so I have every thing set aside for that. BBL Ginny

Good morning Ginny, Phyl and also to CJ and Meg who haven't stopped in yet
Phyl, have a great time at the quilt store and at lunch with your friends. Yes I remember that pie day because the pies sounded so good.
Ginny, I have a bunch of hazardous chemicals that I need to dispose of but, although we've lived here for almost 30 years we've never been to the place where you have to take them. The people that pick up our garbage won't take them and never have a day when they will. One of these days I'll have to get them all together and drive over there. I had asked my neighbor if he ever goes there because he is a very busy person and I thought for sure he would have to go there a lot but turns out he doesn't. His business is trucking loads of things for other businesses but guess he doesn't do loads of things to the "dump".
I've seen patterns of afgans that look like quilts and they are beautiful for the most part but I haven't gotten to any of them yet.
And yes that is a great description of the giraffe..non traditional. Thank you both for the comments on him. You asked, Ginny, who he's for, well it's for my soon to be 12 year old dgd who likes giraffes and giraffe colors. She can use this guy as a decoration on her area of the bedroom (there are 8 of them so none of the girls have their own bedroom) Dgs was the oldest and the only boy for over 14 years so he was lucky and had his own. Now he's still over in Taiwan so I don't know if one of the girls is using his while he's away or if the little boys are using it. I think I found this pattern when I was looking for patterns of sea animals. I do a lot of searches too so that may be how
I did almost finish all the parts of the giraffe. Now just have to finish a little bit more of the second body panel and I'll be ready to embroider on the eyes and mouth and put him all together.
Have a great day everyone and a great weekend

Hello Crafters - Hope you are enjoying your weekend Ginny - I agree about some of those "demands" that buyers have on those shows, and I also feel kind of sad for the spouse that has to settle on a choice they didn't want. Phyl - Hope you enjoy your day out and trip to the quilt shop. Ruth - I'm glad to hear you've almost finished all the parts of the giraffe, I bet it will be cute when it's done. The weather here was milder today and finally this afternoon the humidity is lower, that's so nice. We're supposed to have a lot of rain tomorrow, and temps in the 60s. I haven't done anything today but watch a few cooking shows. I like America's Test Kitchen and Cook's Country - depending on what they are making. Take care everyone!

Blessed Sunday all!!
Phyl- hope that your trip to the quilt shop was fun, so nice that the item you ordered came in..
Ruth- bet that giraffe is almost done! Here they have hazardous waste day twice a year, no the regular garbage pickup will not take hazardous waste here either. For us this was a win win- we got rid of stuff the right way and made some more room in the shed.
CJ- enjoy the cooler weather! Tucking in and watching some great shows on TV was probably the perfect thing to do after a busy day at the Amish market. Stay warm and dry tomorrow. (Think I get the rain on Tuesday).
Dd #2 has shared her cold with me- not feeling all that well. Very busy day for us yesterday, and I hope that today we just stay put so I can rest. Tomorrow we baby sit all day, so resting up is a good idea for today. Ginny

Good morning everyone and I do hope it is a good morning and a good day for everyone.
Ginny, I'm glad you were able to get rid of all your hazardous materials. I do think that my neighbor either doesn't know that he can't just put his old oil cans, etc into a garbage bag and put them into his bin or else he knows and disregards that. Our company has an automated pickup of the bin and it empties directly into their truck so they wouldn't know what's in the bags...the other company that is available here and is a well know company still has men that pick up the bags or the whole barrel if they're stron enough and dumps it into the truck. Neighbor has the same one I do so unless the "picker upper' is broken they wouldn't know he had cans in the bag. I'm sorry to hear that your dd shared her cold with you. I hope you do get that rest you're hoping for and feel better by tomorrow when you will be babysitting.
On the giraffe...weellll.. No it's not done yet. I finally did make myself embroider on the eyes, sewed on the muzzle then put on the little squares for the nostrils and embroidered the mouth. So I still have to sew the other spots in place then crochet it all together, stopping to sew the arms, legs, ears, and horns in place, tucking them between the two body layers...THEN he will be done. Next will be getting that lining in the purse after attacking the strap. Then I'll make her Bible cover and I'm thinking of remaking the coin purse/little "things" purse because I didn't get the zipper in evenly. Then it will be on to finishing the little sharks, etc. After that I may make a couple things for ds and THEN if I have time, the little advent stocking bunting...then I can do some other things I'd like to learn to do.And of course in between the mittens and cowls.

Hello Crafters
Ginny - Sorry to hear you have a cold, hope you get some rest today and feel better soon. You're right, it's raining here today (about an inch so far), so I guess you'll be getting it in a day or so.
Ruth - Hope you can get working on the other projects you have planned.
Last night I cut all the pieces for the second small Amish-style quilt I want to make, just have to sew it all together now.
www.quilts.com/quiltscout/the-quilt-scout-on-the-amish-bar-quilt.html
This website has a variation of the quilt I'm working on now - Amish Bars. The other quilt pictured (Diamond in a Square) looks almost exactly like the first quilt top I made.
Hopefully I'll get to finish this quilt top in a few days. I'd like to work on something in a brighter fabric since the fabrics in these two small quilts has been very dark.
Take care everyone!

Good evening!
Ruth, making these giraffes sound like quite an ordeal, but I am sure that this will be a much loved item by youe DGD. Its pretty amazing that her grandma is so very talented that she can crochet a giraffe!!! I am always in awe of how you get your projects lined up and in order. Great that you are so organized and can keep all those projects straight in your head.
CJ- well I have tons to learn about Amish quilts! Never heard of bar quilts with reference to the Amish before. Simplicity is a beautiful thing, and a joy to the eye. Some quilts are too busy in my book- this is a pleasure to enjoy the way the colors play off each other. Also a challenge too, as small prints do tend to hide stitching errors. My hat is off to you for taking this project on! What is your color scheme for the bars quilt?
Cooked a lot today....getting ready for tomorrow. All in all, though a rather quiet day. Might build a fire and if not I will just sit and attempt to crochet a little bit. Is tomorrow really Monday? Ginny

CJ, I like the quilt but I would guess that sometimes working with a brighter color or colors can actually help a person feel more cheery. Some of the colors and patterns seem too busy. Other people make great fabric choices. Some patterns seem simpler and I think I do like the simple patterns the best.
Phyl, I'm glad you got the pieces cut out and all ready. If you don't like how they tell you to sew them together can you just sew them together the way you like them? I don't know much about quilting at all and I know that there are certainly patterns a person can follow but I would think it would be more fun to just make up your own.
Ginny, I think a fire sounds great so I hope you got to do that and were able to get in some crocheting if you felt up to it. I hope you have an easy day with the grandbabies tomorrow. Doesn't sound like your day was as restful as you had hoped in that you said you did a lot of cooking.
I did do some cooking also but not much. I found that I had to make a new horn for my giraffe because when I was using stitch markers to mark where all the parts go I found that I somehow made one bigger than the other and it was such that you couldn't just rip some out. It wasn't a big problem though because there's not much to making the horn. Now I have it all pinned together and ready to crochet it all together. As I mentioned, when you get to the parts...like arms and legs, etc you just tuck them between the two layers, sew in place then continue crocheting around. If I can talk myself into it before I get too tired I'll have it done tonight barring any serious mistakes.
And no I'm not all that organized. I was never really organized with anything except work. I just make a lot of lists. And I do better when under a time constraint because then I make myself concentrate. I've seen a bunch of patterns lately for Tunisian crochet. I'd like to learn to do that because it really looks like fun. I think it may be similar to croknit which I've done but only learned the one stitch in it.I'll have to finish my list though before I can take time out to try that. A woman named Kim Guzman who has a blog has videos that show how it's all done and she's got some great patterns using that technique. I probably do, though, have enough patterns on my list and new things to learn in regular crochet that I should probably just stick to that.

Just stopping by before I go to bed. I have had a very lazy day. I didn't sleep well last night so I didn't do much today. I did some knitting and listened to an audio book. I have been working on 2 b/blankets almost all summer and I need to get them finished. The one I worked on today is almost finished the other one about 1/2 way. I didn't go to Knit Wits on Fri. I was just too tired because I didn't sleep on Thur. night.
Ruth, having a list of things that need to be done helps me get moving. I feel good when I can check something off. Good luck with your list.
cj, the farmers market you go to sounds great. I am sure there is some great home made stuff. There are farmers markets here but I don't think they would be as good as the market you go to.
Ginny, you are going to build a fire. Though it is cooler here tomorrow it will be 95. We have had quite a few days in the 80s which I enjoy.
phyl, I am glad you are having fun bumming.
Now I am off to bed and I hope I can sleep. I hope you all get a good nights sleep.

Today the Lord stepped in and saved dear friends of mine thousands of dollars. My friend who lives in Alaska got a call...actually her dh talked to the caller. They are in their 90's and the caller told them that their son who also lives in Alaska ,was in a terrible accident in NY and was in jail. He then told them that they needed to send thousands of dollars to him for their son's bail and for attorney fees. She said they then got cut off and they immediately called their grandaughter to ask advice but before she could explain the dgd said she was already on the way over to visit. When she got there the husband was on the phone trying to call that man back and the grandaughter yelled "hang that phone up it's a scam"... WEll thank the Lord they got disconnected. They were so concerned about their son that they didn't even think and would have gone ahead and done what the man wanted them to do because of love for their son. I can't imagine why they thought he was in NY. He was right there in the same town at home, hadn't mentioned to them that he was taking a trip...which he wasn't. In fact shortly after that he showed up to visit them. These are smart people too but it just shows how emotions can get in the way of common sense
