Happy Wednesday everyone! Time to start a new movie thread.
I am happy to see my old TV series back, POLDARK and THIS IS US among them.
I watched two films today neither of which I would recommend. THE SQUARE is a Swedish film that has too many messages, though all important and with some funny moments. THE FUNDAMENTALS OF CARING is a bit too saccharine about a man who works as a caregiver for a young man with muscular dystrophy. Paul Rudd does a good job acting, but it is not very believable.
Watching 800 WORDS now and looking for a good film. Have you seen one?

We watched the Mayo Clinic documentary AND the documentary on Ruth Bater Ginsburg. Both were absolutely remarkable! What amazing stories. I wish the one on RBG was longer, what an interesting life. I will have to read the book!!! I have to get back to 800 Words. Between gardens, sorting and tossing, freezing our produce and having youngest DD and family here for the long weekend, not much leisure. We did take an amazing 3 mile hike at Fruitlands Museum in Harvard, MA after a lovely lunch there. It was just my youngest GD, my DH and myself. What a workout, but a lovely hike and we learned a lot about the culture and the period when Fruitlands was an active farm. Fruitlands is where the new Little Women is being filmed. My DD, DSIL and another GD were in Concord today and said they are also filming Little Women. People were talking about the filming.

I saw BOOK CLUB in the best possible way. We had a Ladies' Night at the clubhouse and started out with pizza and BYOB. I think there were about 30 of us there. Fun to meet some new people. Then the movie, projected on a big screen. It is definitely not a great movie, but it is chock full of laughs. And the laughter was contagious. Oh my, it was fun! I'm glad I waited to see it with the group.

AnnsansE - A sheep farm is an enormous amount of work/wool . What breed of sheep do you have? About 17 years ago I was on a "buy a couple of alpacas kick". Got over that one when I got spit at for making eye contact, not exactly Guerlain.....lol I envy people who know where they want to retire to.....DH offered me the Cape, but it is a bit far to Logan if we settled in Chatham. All the kiddos are in the midwest.

AnnavecE: Where do you live? I originally thought of the Cape as a summer escape after my divorce, but the drive was awful, that narrow road and the bridge back-ups! We have friends who live there (one in Chatham)and we only visit them in the late fall and winter. Alpacas and llamas have tempted us over the years, but one kind of livestock was enough for me.....although one daughter had chickens as a 4-H project, but that is another story. I have worked with a wonderful gene pool of Romneys and Corriedales. At one point I kept five rams to create the right genes for the kind of wool that became standard fare for my farm. I grew up on midwestern dairy farms and still love the big cows, but not the milking schedule.
It would have been fun to see The Book Club with friends, but watching it peacefully by myself wasn't bad. My DH was away. No films for me in sight right now. I'm not even watching the news, no loss there!. We have my youngest GD and two DGDs with us in Maine. We jsut spent the evening playing train dominos, had a great beach walk today, as well.
I hope evryone is having a beautiful weekend. The colors here are almost at their peak.
OH! My daughter and one granddaughter are reading The Notorious RBG for a mother daughter book club.

Yesterday a girlfriend and I went to see A STAR IS BORN. We both really liked this movie. It is a romantic drama. Two surprises—I did not know Bradley Cooper could sing and I did not know Lady Gaga was so pretty. I thought this version was much better than the one with Kris Kristofferson & Barbra Streisand in 1976. I did not see the 1937 version with Judy Garland, but would like to.

Oh yes about the daughters' comments, Anne And Ann, that is a great idea for a mother/daughter book club selection. How old is the granddaughter reading it? I want to see A STAR IS BORN, Ruth. The reviews are good! They all say it is much better than the Streisand/Kristofferson version. Tonight I saw AIDA simulcast from the Metropolitan Opera on a local big screen. Gorgeous. And when I got home I watched THE RED SHOES. I fell in love with the film when I first saw it, at a time when I was taking ballet lessons. It has been digitally restored and is sharp and clear. I loved it all over again. Moira Shearer was beautiful. Gail

Yesterday I saw 'The Way We Were' and liked the movie as I thought I would. Bradley Cooper is awesome. I saw him interviewed on 'Actors Studio' awhile ago and he was so kind and humble. He took voice lessons in order to sing in this movie. 'Lady Gaga' has an amazing voice and her acting was superb in the movie, too. It would be nice to see her have an acting career going forward. I didn't remember the ending of the movie from the film long ago. I kept telling myself, 'it's only a movie', but I still was overcome with sadness at the outcome!
I'm confused, I am seeing mention of Barbara Streisand and Robert Redford and Barbara and Kris Kristofferson on line. Did she make this movie with each of them?
Just noticed 'Nothing Like a Dame' is playing at my favorite historical theater. Judy Dench is in it so that's enough to draw me to see it. Yay! I didn't think there was anything else to see this weekend. I love the big screen, the cost is only $7 and it's so relaxing to watch with no interruptions.
Happy viewing all!

Marlo, THE WAY WE WERE starred Streisand and Redford. A STAR IS BORN was Streisand/Kristofferson. I did like the STAR IS BORN with Judy Garland and James Mason, who were romantically involved when it was filmed, but reviews say the current STAR is the best and the Streisand/Kristofferson the worst. I want to see this one!

Marlo, Is Actor's Studio still on? ?? I loved that show and am sure I have seen every one of the old ones. The one with Paul Newman was amazing. Gail: The granddaughter reading it is Big C, she is 14 and has been reading it on and off all weekend....in between walks and games and cooking. We tried to find the CNN bilm RBG but it isn't available On Demand yet, apparently. I have it DVR'd at the farm, but not in Maine. Love the book, The Red Shoes. Ann
