People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.
Questions of the day: Monday: Karen E; Tuesday: Ann; Wednesday: Sharon; Thursday: Ruth; Friday: Recipe Sharing; Saturday: Karen C: Sunday: Gail.

Good Monday friends. I was awake at 5 am. Yup, 7 hours from when I went to sleep last night. I can’t sleep longer than 7 hours. Yikes, it’s still dark out.
About the new app, I like it. I guess it depends on how you used the old one. When I track, it lists recently tracked foods which helps if you are one of those people. It does take a bit of exploring.
Joanne, when your DSIS bakes, is there an alternative food you can enjoy that’s less points? I’m struggling now just getting back on track as I miss chips, snack crackers and cookies. So far I can’t find a substitute. Oh well.
Sandy I am so glad you enjoyed The Lion King. What did Maija say about the Highlander?
I made two batches of soup yesterday. Some will go in the freezer for quick meals.
Plant based meals - from what I find in my research these recipes do not include cheese. Works for me!
My 2 Christmas cactus died while I was gone. Maybe I can find a start to replant. However, oddly enough the hostas are doing great. I need to clean out my pots on the patio and get some new herbs started.

No plans for today but it's $5 chicken bucket day at our Hy-Vee so will get that for dinner.
Going to get in the upper 80's for the next few days so turning the a/c back on as it will also be very humid and rainy and then bam Thursday high in the 50's!
Debbie bought a baby gate for the bedroom Maybean is in as somehow the dogs kept getting back there and eating his food but after she put it up she had to leave an opening at the bottom as Maybean wouldn't climb it but will go under and the dogs can't get through that. So Bridgette spent a lot of time sitting by the door pouting!
Maija loved the Highlander and Debbie let her take it for a test drive with Sam and when she got back she said she does love it but doesn't want to drive it much as it's too big! She said she'll drive the Mazda and be very happy with that. Debbie did tell her the Mazda is now hers which made her even happier. Debbie said last night that the Highlander will be great for our trip in June to Virginia for Morgan's graduation.

Rain all day yesterday and during the night with heavier rain early this morning. More today, tomorrow and Wed. maybe. Can't say how much we have had total as DH is keeping track of the rain gage and he is in town for breakfast. Would really welcome 2 or 3 days of sunshine.
Can't imagine much exciting happening here today.
QOTD: If you could live the life of another person for one day, who would you choose? AOTD: Off the top of my head, I am choosing Queen Elizabeth. Definitely not because I ever want to rule any country or be a Queen. I would like to spend a day or two in a palace to see the entire palace and how everything operates in a place like that.
Enjoy your day. Going to bake some Oatmeal Breakfast Bars.
DH says 4.4 inches of rain total since Friday.

Good morning
Here's to a new week for me and I will have to take it 1 meal at a time. I gained .2 this week and even though it's not much that's all I've been doing for the past few weeks is gain. My biggest problem is snacking at night, so with that said, I want to focus on eating more protein at supper that way that should stop me from snacking too much. I tried eating my main meal at noon and a light supper but that's not working for me. So now I'm switching it again. I know I just keep repeating this every week and you are all probably tired of hearing me vent, but this is my WW meeting and support group.
It was a very stressful weekend with the girls here and I'm an emotional eater. Plus with one of my other sister moving in with us it's making it even worst.
Sharon...I tried baking some things that are lower in pts but then I'm the only one that will eat it and of course I eat too much of it, so I just need to train myself once again and think why am I on WW or TOPS, and of course the main reason is my health and I want to be as independent as I can for as long as I can.
I really want to thank you all for not giving up on me.

Good morning all. My house is a mess and I have someone coming to talk about dog sitting at 10:00. Wanted to check in as I missed yesterday. Church, lunch, work, dinner and the day was gone. I was exhausted from Friday in the hot garage cleaning and Saturday in the sun at two baseball games.
Sharon when I went to talk about carbs with the counselor she suggested 30-45 per meal and 15 or less per snack, with a total of 1200 calories. I found that I needed to stay under 85-90 for the day. If one meal is over 30, I try to average them out. I was told that everyone had their own plateau where they needed to stay with carbs.
Joanne I try to stay away from baked goods, but if I must I have learned to eat only half or less of a small cookie, 1/4 of a piece of anything else that is offered to not offend people. Eating out I can say no to desert without any problem. If it is a birthday celebration I do have a forkful or two, but cover it with the napkin and quit there.
Off to dress, put away and sweep.

Good morning ladies.
My heart is heavy this morning. I received news last night that a very good friend of mine in Texas is fighting for her life in ICU after suffering a heart attack. Her name is Gail so I'm asking for prayers for her. We met almost 15 years ago in a Christian Chat Room and have been friends ever since. We had never met in person until last October when her family gifted her with a round trip plane ticket to come here to Indiana. I'm so thankful that we were finally able to meet and spend some wonderful time together. I haven't heard anything since her sister called me last night and right now all I can do is pray.
Sandy, the Lion King is one of my most favorite musicals. What a blessing you and your family were able to see it together. I plan on taking my DD and DGD when it comes back to Indianapolis in a few years.
That's a very interesting QOTD. I'll have to think on it for awhile before I decide an answer. Lots of ppl come to mind but it's hard to narrow it to just one.
DH and I just got the windows washed in the family room, kitchen, guest room and living room. The other windows need cleaned also but they'll have to wait. Now I can check that off oh my Getting Ready for Overnight Company To Do List.
Today I'm meeting a friend from church for lunch. I'm really not in a social mood but I know I'll feel better if I get out and get my mind off my worries. One good thing....I tend to not want to eat when I'm stressed so I don't think I'll be too tempted. I'll probably just have a bowl of soup.

Good morning! I couldn't post here OR get the site back for a while. Glad to see it back on my computer.
The carpet men are here, now taking down doors, moving furniture, and ripping up the old. I wish I had done this when I was more mobile. I did a lot last night but cannot get to the floor to take out plugs and cannot move even the lightest pieces of furniture. Question: do you tip the workmen for a job like this?
Sharon, Joanne, me, etc: it is so hard to get back to basics when you have strayed. My issue is bread. When at the senior center I have been picking up sliced loaves of a delicious Whole Foods bread at the food pantry that is 3 SP a slice. That would be ok if I stopped at one slice. Starchy carbs are my downfall! My thing is that I should NOT bring the tempting things into the house. My only sure cure is not to have it here.
As for sleep, I had less than 3 hours last night due to another issue with DD. I started it but felt I had to. I lowered the limit on a credit card I had cosigned for that was to be used by her only for business and would be paid off each month. Neither promise has been kept and I got a notice that my outstanding loans were too high for my income. The total on the card is huge. Not a great time to do it for her and she is angry and stressed. I feel awful about adding to her stress but have been talking about it with her for months.
Sandy, sounds like some happy days for Debbie and Maija. They certainly deserve them!
Tonight is Social Committee. Progressive Dinner coming up this weekend. Lots to do as I am co-running it. I was asked to make the Beef Bourguignon, but had to demur because there is no way I can really cook. Lifting a pot with food, standing and chopping, etc. way too difficult and dangerous. Last night I went to cook frozen veggies and spilled lots of the frozen veggies all over the floor, then scalded myself slightly after cooking. So I will pay for half and my co-chair will make a double recipe. I will also pick up (instead of making) a beet hummus and black bean hummus and crudité for appetizers.
Wow, Karen E. Great question and answer.
AOTD: For one day I would love to be someone (no particular person) in great physical shape and with a lot of money living in Australia/New Zealand. That is one area on my bucket list that I will probably not get to and I want to partake in all of the adventures that interest me, including swimming in the Great Barrier Reef, go to an opera in the opera house in Sydney, and sleep in some luxurious place in the middle of nature.
It is cool and gray here today. High in the low 60s. It would have been great for sleeping last night if I hadn't been so upset.
A quote I found to give me a laugh this morning:
May your hard times last only as long as a Kardashian marriage.
Prayers for your friend Gail, Vicki.
Joanne, never fret about bringing up an issue more than once. We are here for you and have all been there. Have you tried having something hot to drink at night? If I have a sugar-free hot chocolate or cup of tea it calms me and helps me feel satisfied.
Good luck with Michael, Jane.
Geri, you have a busy day ahead.
Have a great one, everyone!
Gail

Oh Vicki I am sorry to hear about your friend. Yes I will pray for her. I’ll add her to my list.
Joanne heavens no I’m not tired of your posts. You’ve lost and gained and keep working at it. Just think what you would have weighed if you hadn’t even tried! Not to mention more health problems. Stay determined, even if it’s a struggle.
Gail I’m sorry your DD is having money problems again. You should not feel bad about not enabling her spending. I worry about your financial welfare too.
Geri thanks for the carb information. I can’t lose weight either at 1200 calories either. Did you know by subtracting fiber from carbs you get net carbs. That’s what Don keeps track of and he loses weight. He stays at 50-60 net carbs per day.
We should be getting rain this week from the storm Michael. I have everything on my list done and even took a walk. Well not everything, I still need to shave my legs. How often do you shave legs? I can go a few days as the hairs are blonde/white.
AOTD: I would like to be The Rock, Dwayne Johnson for a day. Because he’s a nice person. Also he’s black and he’s a man. It would be interesting to see what that’s like.
I think I’ll fix my hair and go watch a shuffleboard tournament. I haven’t played in months.

Sharon I can lose at 1200 cals if my carbs are much lower than the 120 per day recommended. Im going to try to stay at 85 this week and see what happens? Dear son and grands coming tomorrow. Is this a good week to try?

Greetings:
Joanne, keep showing up! That's what this thread is for! When you mentioned another sister moving in, my first thought was, I hope she wants to eat healthy! Maybe she could be a support for you in resisting the other DS's great baked goods! Maybe the two of you can find something you can enjoy when she has those point dense goodies.
Karen E. Oh, the furnace! I did buy new filters which we needed. And an interesting QOTD. I'l have to ponder on that as well!
Vicki, will add your friend to my prayer list, too. How nice that her family gifted you both with that trip!
The cleaning lady is here and I think it's going well. It's a new house for her so I think it takes a time or two to get the feel of the place. Today is cold and rainy. I've said that a lot lately! The weather report indicates I'll be saying it more days!
Gail, the last thing you need is some dings on your credit report as you prepare to get a new place in Florida! I hope DD realizes how her behavior can negatively impact you. It's good you want to rent for a year to get space figured out. You may need that year to rehab your credit report. I hope you can impress upon her how that impacts you. For a couple of years before we made our move we didn't do anything. I'd wanted to get a Target card, but DH nixed it. I also wanted to cancel a few cards that I just didn't use any more -- cards I'd had around back to when my kids were in college and each had one. But, DH said, nope. Absolutely nothing on our credit. We wanted every entry to be old and boring. It's never too early to get lined up for a change in credit.
Gail's question about art ... in northern WY there weren't too many avenues to enjoy art. But we did have some community theater which we participated in as well as a national thing called community concerts. I saw my first opera at one of those. Rigoletto. Seeing that introduced me to the world of much larger productions which I love.
It's funny. The Lion King sounds wonderful and when we were in NYC we could gone for reduced prices, but DH had it in his head that it wasn't that great. So, we've never seen it. It is funny how that takes hold with him and then it's moving heaven and earth to get to something like that. His best friend thought it was great, but even that had no influence. I love the plays we've seen from community through University to NYC and London.
I've posted food on the new app. I haven't done much else with it.
I'm not focusing on the WW point range of whatever to whatever, but I find it interesting that it doesn't allow for the weekly points! I started Saturday and both Sat and Sun I had a little extra, using weekly points, but since both days were 30 I didn't get the dot. Interesting. It's like the weekly points shouldn't really be used. Sort of what I've figured myself a long time ago -- for myself that is.

Karen C - no my new app has weekly points. I’m looking at the app I downloaded on the IPad. I didn’t check the phone.

Sharon. You mean you can post that you used weekly points? Huh. Maybe I don't have the updated app after all. It's different than it used to be, but maybe it was just an update. Saturday is my weigh-in day so it's the day I expected to see any change.
Mine does show the weekly remaining and subtract each day, but using them means that the blue dot doesn't show. I was just curious about that but I think the top that can be posted is 28 per day.
I did just cruise through the wins. Does anyone know what "workshop" means? I can see if one posts regularly and gets good exercise that one will generate lots of wins. Well, I guess it'll be interesting to see what develops.
