Cj, I'm glad you got to see the wedding. I know you're interesting in the royal family and things to do with them. I'm sure it was a beautiful wedding. I hope that she's happy with this man for a lifetime
Ginny, no I don't think you're lazy at all. I feel the same way. I hate when dh has to go out and mow and although each spring I think I might do a lot in the yard I soon tire of it all...very soon. I hope all works out with your new cable and you find that it has nice features that you like and can use.
Well this shawl sure is going MUCH BETTER than the other one. It's basically a half granny square but with what she calls "slats" which are the colors you add...not stripes as you would think of when doing grannies. As I mentioned, it's kind of reminiscient of a log cabin quilt...in a way.
Anyway see you later

Ruth, the new pattern sounds really pretty and its so good that this pattern is much easier to follow. (Remember what a tizzy i was in a year ago looking for a good baby afghan pattern?). I do totally understand.....hope it goes well and quickly. This was not meant to be torture, for sure.
Jury is out on the new cable. What will be great is no more outages because of bad weather. Guess each system has its own ups and downs.

Ginny, when they say there will be no outages due to weather that's not entirely true in some instances. For instance our cable company is downtown and theyuse (as all cable companies do) sattelites to get their signals so when they can't get signals you don't either. Oh here is the link for the shawl if you want to see it www.youtube.com/watch?v=6nU76glpjaM

Wow am I really the only one here today?? Hope that each of you had a really nice Saturday and were able to get some crafting time in, plus enjoy some nice fall weather. Hard to believe that November is right around the corner. No, I am not trying to rush things at all, I just know that if you have plans to make gifts or decor, well the time to start planning those projects is soon. Herrschenerrs had some gorgeous fall cross stitch kits on their catalog cover., no I did not throw the catalog out....but put it aside. The pretty kit ideas are an inspiration though
Slow day for me today- got my Leslie Sansone time in this am- and then Dh, Dd#@ and I took the defensive driving class. Its a 6 hour class, and therefore a long day. Well worth it though in the savings on our auto insurance. I try to take the class every 3 years.....just to keep the discount.
Gotta load the dinner dishes and then get back to work on the Christmas tree ornaments. They are coming along slowly, but do not seem difficult Ginny

Oh Ruth, thanks for posting the shawl instructions! It sure does remind me of a granny square in construction. What yarn are you using and what colors?? Bet it will be very pretty and warm. A true comfort for the recipient. How are you finding this pattern to work with? G

Ginny, I was looking into taking that class. It would save me 10% but it would be a whole day class too and can't be done online so I'm not sure I want to go sit in a class all day. And is that 10% off the entire insurance cost or does it come off only on your liablility? With my other vehicles my insurance was very low but now since we got the new car it, of course went up significantly.
No fall weather here. Started off just after midnight at over 50 degrees and now is down to about 25. It's been snowing like crazy since about noon and there's a lot of accumulation. It's sure much more like winter here.
I'm using pound of love yarn in dark hunter green, light green, and white. It's working very well and it's turning out beautiful if I do say so myself.I don't think she mentions an edging on it but I'm going to put one on. It just makes for a more refined looking item. I'm over half done so hope I can't get all but the edging done tonight. The nice thing about the pattern I abandoned is that the stitch used for some of the rows would make a great edging for this one. Also an observation on the pound of love... The antique white that I'm using for the baby blanket (and Ginny used for hers) is nice and soft. The hunter green I'm using in this shawl is nice and soft too but the light green and the regular white I'm using is not as soft as those two colors. Some other yarns brands are like that too.For instance in With Love (Red heart of course) some colors are softer than others. I wonder why that is.

Hi just a quick post before I find my Nook an spend the evening reading. I had DD home this afternoon and she just went back to her care home. She has a soft cast on her right hand. Apparently she fell on Thursday and broke a bone in her hand. I think she needs a hard cast so we will see what they do about it. It doesn't seem to bother her she just keeps going. She broke both her wrists at different times. Other than take care of her I haven't done much today and I am not planning anything.
I did go to Knit Wits yesterday and worked on the b/blanket I am knitting, that blanket is growing quite fast.
Ruth, I checked out the web site you posted. That is the stitch I use for my granny stitch blankets. I made one for my DGD a blanket using that stitch a few months ago. It is easy to do. I have also used it to make b/blankets.
Ginny, have fun making the Christmas ornaments.
I am tired so I am signing off for the night. sleep well.

Meg, yes it's a very easy and a very relaxing stitch to use. It's so familiar to most of us crocheters that we could practically do it in our sleep like she says in the video.
sorry about Janet's hand. I'm glad it doesn't seem to bother her. I'm glad to hear that you got to Knit Wits yesterday too. Sometimes it's nice to get out with others
Ginny, you're right about the holidays coming up. They'll be here before we know it.Time is going fast.

Good morning, Ruth, so you are in one of the areas that I heard was supposed to get snow! What a change, as I do believe you were in 90 degree weather only 2 weeks ago, perhaps no more than 3. Glad to hear that this project is somewhat mindless for you, in my book that is perfect crochetting! The colors sound pretty, and I do really like green...hunter green is such a deep and rich color, which I find very comforting. With regards to the defensive driving class, what you save varies by state. As I live in NY, but NJ is only a few miles away, the instructor was licensed to teach in either state. So in NY, its 10% off the liability portion of the policy (you were right) but in NJ its only 5%. You will have to investigate the law on the course in your state. The course is offerred online in NY too- but my son took it and its a pain in the neck. You must call into a voice regognition system periodically as you are taking the test, to verify that its still you taking the test. Part way through the online sections the test stops- asking for that call in at random times. Ds found it to be very frustrating. But still, if the weather is bad and you were just going to be home anyway, it might be worth the hassle.
Meg- hope that your visit with Dd was pleasant. I too am sorry about Janets hand, and its a good thing that she is not bothered by it much. Perhaps a hard cast would be uncomfortable for her, but it would provide greater protection. Guess the greater protection would be a good thing if she is prone to wrist injuries. Glad you got to knit wits.....always good to get out and spend time crafting!!
Now I have no idea why different yarn colors of the same manufacturer and yarn type are soft, others not. The baby afghan I made 2 years ago, supersaver yarn, the grey was as soft as it could be and the white was scratchy. Makes no sense to me at all....perhaps I will email one of the yarn companies and see what I can find out.
Hit a snag with the ornaments last night....guess I misinterpreted how they wanted the pattern laid out on the canvas- or the directions did not indicate it well. Thankfully I have only gotten very little done on the first of 8 ornaments, so its easy to start over. Hope that today I can spend some time working on that.
Am playing flute this am in church again...late yesterday I had to practice. Looks like a cool fall day here, presently the temp is 38.
Have a great day all. Ginny

Yes in this state it's 10% off so I would not save much at all if it's just on liability part and the course costs $100 so with that I wouldn't end up saving anything. Well that online course then sounds like a major pain. I wouldn't want to have to stop and call in all the time like that. One of the ladies on the lifetimer's thread didn't like it either. She didn't mention having to call in to voice recognition but she did say it took forever. I wouldn't mind the taking forever part and I'd love some hints on defensive driving but online class is not available here anyway so it's a moot point.
We did get quite a bit of snow but nothing terrible. I'm going to just sit inside though and work on my crocheting. Yes I love the hunter green. I didn't even know that pound of love came in dark colors. I think they mostly used to make it for baby blankets and now that people want the more "modern" look they decided to make it in other colors. I really did like the colors the designer had used in the picture she used at the beginning of the video to show the shawl. It looked like black, grey and white. I didn't know P of L came in black. I do have it in two shades of gray but this shawl I think really needs one really dark color like the hunter green, black, or navy to make everything stand out.

Hi everyone, It was very nice today though I noticed that there was a good breeze but I have been indoors all day. Did a few chores but no crafting so far. I hope to watch Poldark later.
cj, I wasn't going to watch the wedding then I thought I would watch part of it but I ended up watching all of it. She was a beautiful bride and they looked like a very happy couple. From what I have heard of the groom he is a very nice person. As I am from the UK I have always been interested in the Royals. Last week I missed Poldark because they had a fund raiser on.
Ginny, Janet has had a hard cast both times when she broke her writs so I am sure she would be able to manage it. It is her right hand and is a wee bit awkward. When she gets hurt like this she just seems to accept it and just keeps going as best she can.
Ruth, a year or two ago they introduced Pound of Love in some new darker colors. It is a good yarn and very popular. I am using some of that pink P of L that we ordered a couple of years ago. I don't know how much of it I have left but I am using it for a b/blanket I am knitting now.
I wish you all a good evening.

Meg, it was on such a great sale that year that I got carried away and bought a ton of it. Then I didn't like the color when it came but now I think that if I make baby blankets with it and mix in some gray and white that it's actually going to look good. Maybe even that pink, the other pink they sell and some gray. I am so surprised, now that they show baby blankets with gray in them, just how nice they look
