Good morning and Happy Columbus day!
Gee, in this politically correct climate I am surprised that we are still permitted to honor (not sure celebrate is the right word) Columbus day. Anyway, its a day off from work for me- I do not babysit today either as schools are closed. Ok, the grandkids are going to be here for about an hour this afternoon as Dd has a doctor appointment.
Ruth, gee you accomplished a lot!! How sweet for you that the crochetted headbands are in style, it makes it much more fun when you know you are making a project that will be appreciated so much. Do not blame you for ordering the yarn... Thanks for the info on the book. I will see if I can add it to my library list- I have a digital list of books on the library web site where I keep track of what I would like to read when I get the time.
Anyway, Happy Monday! Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - Hope you didn't get too much snow and it was just enough to be pretty. Ginny - Hope you enjoy your day off. Meg - I didn't watch Poldark last night, but I'll watch it today. It seems like it's going to be a good season Phyl - I thought you might like to read this post by a quilter, she is going to be embroidering one of the barns from those patterns we talked about some time back: catpatches.blogspot.com/2018/10/omg-flimsy.html - scroll down some on the page to see the barn she's going to embroider I have several pieces of barn scene fabrics and I also have the pattern with all the Appalachian Barns to embroider. Maybe I'll get to them someday The weather here has been warmer, low 80s, but not too hot and humid. I have a few outings planned for this week, so it will be a bit busy. I went out yesterday to the only store left that carries the yogurt I like. It's about 40 minutes from where I live, and I was concerned they might not have it, but they did!!! I think I bought about 20 containers of yogurt, so I have enough for a month. I hope when I go back in November they still sell it. I've started trying some store brands to see if I like any of those and the ones at Aldi aren't too bad. Some of the store brands are just awful! And that's my yogurt saga for the day Take care everyone!

Good morning and happy new week to all.
I think the issue of Columbus Day has been discussed and I imagine it will be brought up again. In the meantime it's great to have another day off. I know my ds has today off too as he works for the federal gov't.
It's still cold here and I'd love to have those 80's you're having CJ.
I did get 10 rows of the prayer shawl done and I was thinking that if I can get 10 rows done a day it will take me only about 6 days however I kinda forgot about the small fact that each of the rows gets significantly longer so as that happens I will without doubt, not get 10 rows in after about the middle of the shawl and maybe before that. I'm sure glad I did those shawls for my dgds because as I struggled with those I learned a lot that is helping me with this one.

I think the schools were open here today too, Phyl. The banks and post offices, etc were all closed though.
Phyl and CJ, that embroidery on the quilt barn squares sounds interesting. It's amazing all the different choices you have in quilting.I'm glad you were able to get some of the things you wanted for making triangles with that discount. Yesterday I got the 20% discount on my yarn because of a site called Honey. Do any of the rest of you use that. It's a program where, when you order from sites it's affiliated with, each time after you pick your items to buy, this Honey program scrolls thru coupons for that site (such as Amazon, Micheal's, etc) and applies any coupon that works. First it picked a coupon that was only 10% off but when I got to checkout the Micheal's site said coupon was invalid so I had Honey scroll again and ended up with the 20% coupon that worked, so even better.
Well it's nearly 5pm here and I have not made much progress on the shawl. I kept doing row 10 over because I kept coming out with the wrong stitch count until I finally counted up all the stitches myself and realized that they made a typo and in fact two typos in that line of the pattern. Now I'm finally on row 11 so hopefully can make some progress before the day is over.
CJ, yes some of the store brand yogurts are really bad. Kroger used to have one that had veggies in it. It was really good but I guess they couldn't convince enough people that veggies in yogurt was a good thing so they quit selling that one. I especially liked the one with the butternut squash. The beet one was good too but the cucumber one...not so much

CJ- so very happy for you that you were able to find your yogurt!! Have you ever considered contacting the manufacturer and asking who carries their brand possibly closer to you? I hope that this is a chain that perhaps might continue to sell that brand/variety in the future. Indeed it just stinks when we really like a product and its not easy to find!! Thanks for posting the barn scene quilts. They are so charming.....and look like fun to embroider. Hope that this is a good week for you, even if its busy.
Phyl-congrats on the 10% off ticket for your favorite quilt shop! Surely you will enjoy your new toys to make your quilting time easier. You should be all set to go now, with new aids to help you quilt and your play pen straightened out.
Ruth- so glad you were able to figure out the glitch in the shawl. (I would have probably given up!). Hoping that from here on your crochet work goes easily and you are able to finish the shawl in good time. I know your friend will cherish it and be comforted by your caring effort. Hey, congrats on the good discount from the Honey site!! Never heard of that before, but its a blessing that you were able to use that.
Got a walk with Dd today. Also am still putting away stuff from the attic. Some big job that turned out to be. Most of the pm was taken up with our email. We are changing internet services so my email must change. Its been a mountain of work taking care of that....and I am not done yet. Guess its all gotta be done by Friday, as that is when the change really takes place.
No crafting for me today....hope to read myself to sleep. Hi to Meg- Ginny

Ginny, it's good to see you again this evening. It sounds like you had another busy day even if you weren't working or babysitting for long. It's nice that you were able to get in a walk with your dd. How's she liking her new job? Yes those big projects take forever. We haven't even started on our garage yet and it will be a long process too I'm sure. I know you'll be relieved when the attic and shed are both organized.
Well I think I'm back on track with the shawl now and I'm finally up to row 18 so I've made a little progress at least. Now I switch to the ohter section of different stitches so I hope that goes well. The pattern switches back and forth between two different sets of stitches but with maybe 10 rows before switching again. Yes I know my friend is the type of person that will be just very delighted to receive something like this and since shawls seem to be trendy now with young woman she can actually use it too esp since it's in nice colors that will go with almost anything. She's mid 40's and seems in just the right age group. I do hope to get to row 20 tonight but I might just call it a day and do something else. I've finished my book though and the ones I have on hold aren't available yet so I'm not sure yet.
The stores here all have little comment cards where you can request that they sell things that you like that they don't currently sell however I doubt that unless they get enough requests that they would do it. I recently tried the yoplait friutastic yogurt and it was really good but high in calories.
Get a good night's sleep everyone

Good morning!!
Ruth, how many rows are in the shawl?? You are making really good progress on that, and should be finished soon for your friend to enjoy and cherish. Do you miss your book? Sometimes a good book is like an old friend....and a void is there when the book is over.
Babysitting today. And I worked this am. Just got a call from work to work this afternoon which I turned down. Thanks for asking about Dd. School districts are very fickle and it looks like enrollment is down- Dd’s position might be eliminated at the end of this year. That is sad.....she seems to like it there. I have told her to have faith and know the Lord has a plan for her- it might be at another district.
Gotta go take care of some medical billing issues. G

Today would have been my mother's 100th birthday if she were still alive. Her mother lived to be 101 but my mother had a very long history of high blood pressure and strokes and lived only until 80 which is much better than my father's lifespan. He died at 58.
Still cold but I think it's warmer. It snowed during the night but it's all melting now.
Ginny, I do hope you get your medical billing issues taken care of without too much frustration. Those things can drive a person crazy. I hope the babysitting goes well and you enjoy the time with the little ones. It's great that you were able to tell the school people no when they asked for you to work again this afternoon. They sound like the hospital here.. when you work part time they love it because then they try hard to coerce you into working more but still only get part time or fill in benefits.
The shawl has only 57 rows but it's a triangle shawl so each row gets longer and longer and the edging is a few of those rows which the edging is a big part of the beauty of the shawl. So from here on out each row is going to take longer than these first 18 did...well except for row 10 which took my almost all of yesterday to figure out.
Since the weather sounds pretty good for next week I think that maybe we might go on another short trip again before winter sets in. I'm not sure where yet. No camping though, it's definitely too cold for that so it's got to be somewhere where they have a hotel/motel.

Hello Crafters Ginny - Hope you are able to get everything done for the email transition. I'm sorry to hear your DD might lose her job, I hope not. Thanks for your thoughts on the yogurts. I watched all the major chains around me slowly remove the brands I liked, so I doubt they'd bring them back. I'll just keep going to this one store until they discontinue them too, which want surprise me if/when it happens. I'll just start drinking chocolate milk or hot chocolate each day for a dairy serving Ruth - Wow, your mother was born 100 years ago, I'm glad she did live to 80. How sad your father had such a short life. My parents were the opposite of yours, my mother died at 53 and my father at 91. I hope you do get to go on another trip and enjoy your new car and getting away from home I crocheted a dishcloth yesterday. It's a little bigger than I meant it to be, and a bit lopsided - pretty much the story of my life with my projects But I enjoyed making it. I have a bunch more cotton thread, so I need to make some more. I went out today and did some weeding that I had let get out of control. This area has a small crape myrtle tree in it and I keep a bunch of those solar stakes around it, the ones that light up at night with colors. I found some wild ivy starting to grow at the base of the tree, so I'm glad I was able to cut that out. That ivy is so invasive and difficult to get rid of. It's taken over part of a holly tree I have and I had to give up and let it grow there. I'm just not a landscape type person, I like to look at a pretty yard, but not put the work in for it Take care everyone!

Hi!
Ruth, we never forget our parents and I hope that on what would have been her 100th birthday, you have many fond memories of your mom. Of course our parents were important when we are alive, but sometimes I think their legacy makes them even more important and dear. Keep up the good but hard work on the shawl! Are you happy with how it is turning out?
CJ- congrats on getting some weeding done. Yes wild ivy is a pain. I hope that the stores continue to carry your yogurt. I ended up eating Laughing cow light swiss cheese and use that as a good source of calcium.
Told work that I will be in tomorrow and that is it for the week for me. I am tired of playing with this email junk....still have a lot to finish.
No crafting for me today, hope that as the week slows down a bit for me that I can get some time in on the ornaments. Ginny

Hello everyone, Not a lot happening here. I did finish one b/blanket and have made a good start on another one. Other than that not much happening though I have a couple of books that I am reading. They have been installing new cables or something and yesterday I didn't have phone service for awhile and today it messed up my TV. I hope they have finished in my area.
cj, I didn't listen to Poldark on Sunday because it wasn't on. They had an art auction on all evening so I hope to see season 4, no2 this coming Sunday.perhaps you could phone the store before you go to see if they have the yogurt it would save you a trip. Or ask some of the stores in your area to carry it
Ginny, I am glad you got a day off today you do need a break.
Phyl. the schools were closed here on Monday so I had Devin home for the day.
Ruth, They have been trying to get rid of St. Columbus Day for a few years not. Now I heard them Talking about Sir Winston Churchill, will he be next to go. I consider him one of the political leaders OF ww2. Some of the young people coming along have nor respect for historical leaders. I think your mother lived quite a long life. I always seem to remember birthdays of family members and some friends who are no longer with us.
I am tired so I am off to bed.
Sleep well everyone.

Good morning, Glad to see Meg stop in to visit us. Gee that is the first I have heard of any controversy over Sir Winston Churchill. That scares me, as no one is or was perfect, I do believe that some very special leaders were put in place at the right time to get us through difficult times. Churchill was one, DeGaulle was another. Not perfect men but men who understood what they had to do at that time. I have even heard critics of George Washington....the world has gone mad. Is your phone service and cable restored?? Gotta be frustrating especially if you are unsure when they will complete their work. Good to hear that you are getting crochetting time in.
Worked this am, then ran some errands. Nice to think of the afternoon as being off for me. They asked me to come in again, which I turned down. I am still trying to figure out all the changes of a new email address and getting everything transferred. Its a lot of work. Friday will be worse, as our internet service provider changes then. Hope that by the end of the day I can stop in to say hello. Ginny

Hello everybody. I hope everyone is having a great day
CJ, I would love to have a great looking yard too but also don't want to do all the work involved. It's kind of a hopeless thing anyway since it's so dry here and the soil is so bad.And well the dishcloths you made have character. They are usable and that's all that counts when we make things like that for ourselves. I have to get busy and make some too because I found out that all the Premier "cotton" I have is NOT all cotton so can't really be used for my hotpads and potholders and I have a lot of it.Great idea to make yourself dishcloths.I like the ones that Meg has knit for others at her church. They do take longer to make though. But if you knit it's a great thing to take with you to work on while waiting anywhere you have to wait.
Ginny, good to hear you have your work and errands out of the way for today. Im sure there's a lot of other thing you have to take care of though. As to the email thing, that's why I never use my cable company's email. I've mostly always used live.com or gmail or yahoo to avoid having to move things if I changed from cable... Of course since that''s about the only way to get internet here I probably never will change but having one of the major email providers does avoid a lot of problems.
Well I almost gave up on the prayer shawl and was ready to go to a different pattern. I even told my dh I was giving up on it. then I decided to try it one more time so ripped out back to row 11 this time and MAYBE it's going ok. I hadn't realized it was lopsided since I had equal numbers of stitches on both sides but I had gone into the wrong middle stitch way back there and those straight down the middle openings had gone to one side and also one side of the top wasn't the same as the other. So I'll try it again today and if anything goes wrong I will definitely give up on this one.
Meg, it's great seeing you.I don't use a cell phone but had to get one for emergency in case the cable is down since my phone is thru the cable company. It's happened a few times and then you can't make calls So I got an emergency only cell phone and I take it with me when we go out too just in case.We used to have everything thru the cable company but got tv thru sattelite because, as a friend of mine says "Don't put all your eggs in one basket". It's awful when the cable is not working and you don't have tv, internet, or phone. At least this way we'll have something.

Well I was going into the wrong center stitch which was definitely my fault but I also found another mistake in the pattern. She left out one stitch toward the end of row 16. I should have caught that. So now all is corrected up to and thru row 17 so back at 18 yet again. The next three rows are harder only in that you have to do all hdc's (which is the easy part) but you have to count all 156 as you go.
