People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself āEnough is enough and Iām getting in shape!ā On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.
Questions of the day: Monday: Karen E; Tuesday: Ann; Wednesday: Sharon; Thursday: Ruth; Friday: Recipe Sharing; Saturday: Karen C: Sunday: Gail.

Debbie has been spending the night at the house while taking care of the dogs and last night asked me if I hear Maybean starting to meow would I get him out of Maija's bedroom as he's waking her up too early! He's started biting way too much so not sure what to do about that as if you say no he does it even more and has gotten into the practice of climbing up my side to be perched on my shoulder while I do the dishes in the morning. Just morning not any other time. Oh and spraying with water would not work as a deterrent as he loves it!
Still haven't made it to Costco so maybe that will happen this morning. Have my meeting tomorrow so will go, WI, listen and decide if I want to continue as it's been almost 17 years since I joined and at this point I might be able to maintain where I'm at but doubt I'll make goal and have heard the same thing over and over again. I think even Fred is starting to agree with me but as always says it's my decision. I'm just not sure what I want to do as my monthly fee never goes up when they raise the fees so if I quit and then go back it'll cost me more. But if I'm not getting anything out of it anymore why keep paying?

good morning
We are off in a few minutes for the laser on Don's eye to clean the lens from the cataract surgery. I feel groggy because I hate getting up this early. I am wondering if my son is heading to Myrtle Beach and hope they aren't. They have had reservations for months and do the time share thing so he says they will not get a refund. This was their 20th anniversary trip. But this is not a good place to go after the storms.
Hope everyone has a good day.

Good morning!
This is just a flyby. My company that was supposed to come today ended up coming last night so we're up and out the door early for some shopping. I'll try to check in tomorrow but not sure if that will happen.
Have a wonderful day!

Good Friday morning friends.
Geri we want to put vinyl flooring in our bedroom sometime. Eventually we will be carpet-less. I know that seems odd to non-Floridians, but it will work for us.
Goodness Vicki itās good you cleaned this week as your friends came over early. Still enjoy your time with them.
Sandy you can google kittens that bite and get some advice. I found an article at petfinder.com but could not copy the link. Good luck with that.
I hope your day goes well Jane.
Groceries and bank for us today. Iāve made a list of recipes to cook and listed the ingredients Iāll need. My grocery list is always half produce it seems.
Have a good day all.

Good Morning!
Yesterday was a good day. After yoga at Bahama Breeze I had fish tacos and a cup of black bean soup. It was very filling. One of the gals brought a birthday cake for the October birthdays. I had a small piece. It was very good. Because of that indulgence I worked to get all of my steps in. That and 2 yoga classes and tracking helped me lose .4.
Sandy, I really understand your frustration. Do you track on the WW app? I did not know this, but you apparently can get the app without being a member for $19.95 a month. I currently pay $14.95 a month. You all are my meeting. I really get more from all of you than I get at meetings. There is another app that is new that is supposed to be just like the WW app. It is called iTrackBites app that is $3.99 initially with no monthly fee. If finances get tight for me I may try it.
Jane, Good luck with Don's laser procedure. Sorry you had to get up early. Maybe you can get a nap later.
Mike was up early to go to Grandparent's day at his granddaughter's school in Winter Garden, which started at 8 a.m. with a 2 hr drive. I was invited but couldn't go because of my yoga class.
Vicki, Have fun shopping!

Sandy I meant to remind you that we are all āspinning our wheelsā most of the time. I feel your frustration too. I am an online member and my initial fee has gone up. I thought about cancelling again and waiting for another offer, but in the meantime I like WW. What to do!!

Yesterday my day was so busy that I never got back to answer my own QOTD.
Yesterday's QOTD: Daylight Savings Time ends Nov 4 in just a few short weeks. Does that extra hour of sleep help you or will you not take advantage of it? What will you do with your extra hour? Do you have trouble sleeping? How many hours of sleep do you need?
AOTD: It usually takes my body a week to adjust to the time change because I always eat meals at the same time and go to bed & get up at the same time unless something unusual has toyed with my schedule. I will not use that extra hour for sleeping. I will just go about my day. I never have trouble sleeping and can fall asleep anywhere if I am tired. 7 hours is generally what I get and seems to be what I need.
Geri, Your new floor is beautiful!
Joanne, Did your sis get the job?

Good morning!
I was up early to await a window cleaner. I have not used this service before, but almost everyone in our complex does. He cleans the screens and stores them, then does the windows. He is very good and reasonable. However, he just called to cancel as it is probably going to rain. I wish he had done that last night as I got less than 5 hours of sleep and could have used the extra zzz's. I do understand there was uncertainty about what the weather would be like when we went to bed. After all, this is New England. Weather uncertainty goes with the territory.
In a couple of hours the OT will come to help me take a shower. When the nail salon opens I am going to try to get an appointment for an afternoon mani/pedi, the latter my first since the end of July. My feet are in dire need. This will be my second drive in months. I plan to stop off at the library and Whole Foods on the way back. Hoping they can fit me in. I am celebrating my steps towards doing things on my own.
Independence is happiness. -- Susan B. Anthony
Sandy, it is your decision about WW. For me this is a lifelong commitment as I know what would happen if I stopped. I plan to drive to my first meeting in ages next Wednesday. I have really missed the meetings but had no way to get there that I could afford. I need all the support I can get: all of you, the app, the meetings. But if you are not into it and don't think it helps, by all means save the money. You have to be in the right mindset!
Wishing all goes well for Don, Jane.
Waving at you, Vicki.
Have a great day, friends. BBL.
Gail

Yes Ruth I love their articles. I also track there to keep track of my carbs.
I tried Aldiās this time for groceries. Wow the prices were good, especially on my produce list. Then went to Publix to finish.
Lunch is soup. Dinner will be Biggest Loser Teriyaki Pork Chops plus broccoli.
This weeks menus include: healthy sausage lentil soup Steak and mushrooms Carson beach haddock Split pea soup Chicken cabbage sautƩ
Sandy Iāve mentioned this before, I think in regard to Joanneās frustration, that if we didnāt keep trying weād be more overweight than now. I know I have to make a lifetime commitment like Gail to keep trying. It might be WW or SparkPeople but I will continue and I will continue here for ideas and support. Please donāt just give up. Believe me it has crossed my mind from time to time to just eat what I want and be fat like other people do. I wonāt risk that for my health. I know you well enough I think that you wonāt either. Love ya.
We havenāt eaten out since getting home. I do get a little weary of cooking but at least Don cleans up my mess.

Jane, hope Don's surgery is going well.
Joanne, did your sis get the job? You'd used the initials BK, I think. That says, Burger King, to me. If she likes fries and burgers that will be a hard place for her to work if she's trying to manage her weight. Burger places make me cry. My DGD who graduated this year went to work at a generic hamburger place. The Hamburger Stand. I don't think I've seen any on the east coast, but they are burgers and fries. After she started there and the next time we saw her I think she'd gained fifty or more pounds. She's a freshman this year, staying at home, and I don't know what she's going to do, if anything. It's so sad, she was fine shape before. so, if it's the burger place, I hope your sis can manage it.
The DDIL I'm working at a better relationship with called last night. She is prone to drama, I've discovered, which I suppose sort of fits. XH is back in the hospital in ICU and she's worried about his girlfriend taking everything before the boys get their inheritance. It was an awkward conversation, but I called my DS's both of whom knew what was going on with him and were fine with it. I now remember the calls she made at 11 p.m. when I was working years ago. I'm not much for drama, so I'm going to have to really rein it in or all my efforts will be for nothing!
Vicki. You must be very organized to accept company a day early! I guess most we deal with have airline flights so we know those. My DS who lives in southern CO hasn't been here but is going to babysit for her DD so she's going to stop by on Saturday. That will be nice.
Going to pack today. I need to buy some things, so should do that today. I want to be packed tomorrow with just a few things left to put in.
Remember those books that go back a few years? I have them, but they are't where I just looked! Have to think about that. But the point is that both reference cycles in losing and getting frustrated or something ike it is one of them. It's just part of the process. Feeling revved up, doing well is also part of it. We just have to recognize these cycles and during the rough patches get up each day and do what we know is best for us. That's one of the reasons I'm so annoyed with WW. I think they are overlooking the roots of the program! Wanting to move away from it, but when I stray away from the bedrock, things aren't good. They talk about the "why" and that's important, too, but the physical facts of losing weight, of gaining weight, they seem to be glossing over and that's not good. IMHO
I'm not surprised that copy cats are springing up and there are certainly many ways to motivate and help people.

Sandy, Like Sharon said...even if you leave WW NEVER, NEVER give up! I am always finding ways to tweak healthy eating, as we are all different. Right now I am eating following many things in Joel Fuhrman's Nutritarian Lifestyle by eating a big green salad every day and beans every day or every other day. I am still eating some fish and meat but my portions of fish and meat are small (3 oz) and not everyday. This is helping me feel full and seems to be working for me.
Sharon, We do not have an Aldi's that is close by. We will be getting one near the new outlet mall in the coming months. I am really looking forward to it.

Good afternoon
Busy day here but wanted to check in. My sister called BK and they said the supvs still have to talk to each other. I think they're giving her the run around myself, so I told her to keep looking and apply at multiple places.
