Good evenng!!
Sue- so glad you found us!!! We do a lot of chatting here, most of if crafting and a good part of it just life in general. I am really glad that you have gotten some respite care for your husband. I do not think anyone ever wants to admit that they have become a burden to their loved ones. And its such a blessing that you have someone so that you can get out to do errands, or even just relax a little bit. I do think everyone here has had some experience in being a caregiver...whether is be in a professional manner or a loved one. Its exhausting, but also a blessing. Now I would never ever in a million years consider myself anything other than a slightly more than beginner crochetter. Like you, I like to see the yarn play against itself, seeing how the colors all work in. I look forward to getting to knowing you better and am thankful to Ruth for sending you here
CJ- enjoy the weather before the noreaster arrives. Glad you found a temporary fix for the mail box. It has to be so very frustrating to have to replace/repair that time after time. Thanks for the new MSQ link. Gee, they come up with the most fun patterns and all are so easy. This one looks to be very fun- as in its colorful and moves a lot.....Are you considering making that for yourself?
Ruth-yup, that is the art of having a glorious stash of yarn, making it work for all the great projects that you see! I bet you are working on the afghan for DGS. And I do have to get that pattern to you for making a single/double irish chain. Its SO easy and involves nothing more than cutting strips and then making those strips into squares- then aligning them into the quilt strips. Super easy..... even I figured it out!!
So last night I got to sewing about half of the strips for my table runner (the pre class homework). I got tired and stopped.Hope to finish that either tonight or tomorrow, so that my homework is done for class. I did make one small mistake, which I am not sure can be corrected...but its for the backing of the table runner. Dd was near Joanns and picked up more fabric for that- which was on sale too! Sorry, i just do not feel like spending a small fortune on quilt store quality for a table runner back.
Got a lovely fire in the firepit.....which will be extinguished shortly by the nor’easter and its rain.
Sue, I live in a somewhat rural area of NY State, well we do not get moose or elk here but we get bear, deer, foxes, coyotes....etc. I am a mom of 3 adult children, have 3 adorable grandkids and am a semi retired school bus driver. Semi retired, as I was asked to go back into work this afternoon..
Speaking of work, that should pretty much end for a while, until spring trips start again...I did get to see some of “my kids” from last year....I do miss the little critters.
Hi To Meg and Phyl- happy Friday to all!
BBL Ginny

Ginny, you can tell someone is from the Northern Tier states if they tell you how far away something is in time it takes to get there in stead of miles! Yellowstone is about 2.5-3 hours away, less as the crow flies! It's possible to do a loop going though the main gate in West Yellowstone through part of th Park and out at the Gardiner gate. That's a long all day trip. Even a sort trip is a long trip though!
My favorite trip was in the winter on snowmobiles, back in the days before one had to go with a guided group. The thermal features in the winter are magnificent. The hot springs areas have large groups of bison. Contrary to things that have been written, snowmobile ridden responsibly do not scare the animals. I have also been on a winter weekend trip to go wolf watching ... before the snowmobile trip shortly after the wolves were reintroduced.
On a fall camping trip I saw hundreds of elk gathered the males in group ranging from one to ?? 50. The sound of male elk bugling was unforgettable. The next day we went back, but they were gone!
On an early spring trip one year I saw a blue heron rookery and one of the spring's first bison babies.
I used to think a duck is a duck is a duck, but because of spring and fall migration, I've found out a lot about all waterfowl, not just ducks!
There are so many unforgettable moments that are blessings of life in the Northern Rockies. Lots better than life in the big city ever was!

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all enjoying your weekend We'd been talking about the leaves changing and I found this really neat 30 day time lapse video of the leaves in Brownville, Maine. I thought you might enjoy watching it: www.lookr.com/lookout/1528310784-Stickney-Hill#action-play-monthThere are other nice videos on this site if you search around. The weather here is cold and rainy today, but I think it's supposed to clear up later. Hope your weather is nice.

Sue, yes that still amazes me that people talk about distances in time instead of miles. Well I drive slower than most people so it takes me longer. I've only been to the park once. I did love it but in summer it's too crowded now and in winter, well you know how that is. You never know what the weather will do and if you'll become stranded. I guess I'm just a coward. That being said though, the time we did go to the park it was in November. I don't know how long it takes to get there from here but it's about 400 miles. I loved the elk. We did see one moose in the distance and of course lots of bison. I love the bugling of a bull elk.
And Sue, the fact that you use colors and texture to make your crochet items shows me that you are a super creative person and that you don't need another person's pattern. I'm sure with your skills you could be a pattern designer yourself and in fact you already are as you design your own patterns as you go. I can do that to a certain extent for hats and scarfs but to make other things I do need a pattern. Sometimes patterns can be very frustrating because people make mistakes or they use terms in a different way than other people do. I recently had to give up on a prayer shawl I was making for a friend with cancer and go to a different one because of that.
Ginny, you obviously were a very valued employee since they are constantly calling you to fill in. I hope you have a good day today.
CJ, I'll have to go look at that video.
Meg and Phyl, hope to see you soon.
I got my bag, bag done and have been working on the afgan. I did finally figure out how Lion came to the amount they credited me with. They charge $7.99 for each skein of Mandala, apparently gave me money back for the two, and they added shipping to that hence the $23. However I think that I paid $3.79 for it on Amazon so I did get a little extra for my trouble. I didn't want to forget the credit and have it expire so I just orderd some Vanna's choice in colors I need to try the plaid stitch. And they didn't ask me to return the one that was missing colors so I can still use it. The other was fine so don't know why they credited me for that one.

Good evening and Happy Saturday!!
Sue, thanks for sharing your love for the Northern Rockies! Been many many years since I have been there....and I do remember their majesty and beauty. And that things can be seen for MILEs. Here we get loads of migratory birds/ducks. Indeed there are so many different ducks and when you get them on migration you see varieties that might only be present for a week or so.
CJ- thanks for the time travel... the time elapsed journey of beautiful fall foliage. Sort of makes up for the lack of fall colors here. How have you made it through the noreaster?
Ruth, glad you got to the bottom of the mystery with Lion Brand. You have been talking about that plaid stitch for awhile, so I am glad you ordered some yarn to give that a try.
Please do not think I am such a valued employee, they are desparate for drivers, that is all.
No crafting yet today, but I am going to cut some fabric in a few minutes for the table runner. We had a rainy and somewhat windy day here, but nothing as bad as they said it might be. We were blessed. BBL Ginny

Hello everyone. I am keeping DD entertained this afternoon.. Soon it will be time to feed her dinner and then she will go back to her care home. I haven't any crafting today but I did go to knit wits yesterday and I worked on my b/blanket last night. I am at the 1/2 way point.
Sue what a nice surprise to see you here. I have lost track of many people I used to post with, some died and others moved to other boards. I am glad to hear you are keeping well though I am sure it is stressful taking care of DH. I am glad you get 10 hours respite each week. I used to get 16 hours a month when DD lived at home. It was a blessing to have a break. I don't do any knitting or crocheting that is difficult as I have macular degeneration. Do you make the caps and scarves to donate or for friends and family?
Ruth, I did get rid of some of my stash of yarn this week. I dropped it off at the work shop Janet goes to every day. I also took a big bag of used greeting cards that they can use for art projects.
Ginny, I went grocery shopping and bought some candy for Halloween. We don't usually have many kids and sometimes not any but we have to be prepared. You seem to be keeping very busy between baby sitting and subbing. I am sure your DD appreciates all the help.
cj & phyl. I have to go and fix DD some dinner. Hope all is well with you.

Well Ginny, they may be desperate for drivers but I know that you were a good consciencious worker that they could rely on. I hope the weather is not too terrible for either you or CJ with this norester going through both areas. I hope you can get that work done on your prep for the class. I know you'll be glad and relived to have that all set to go.
Meg, I'm glad you got to go to Knit Wits. I always found that going to Caps for Kids meetings really inspired me to work on my projects more. It was only once a month though and didn't meet in Nov or Dec. I'm sure Janet appreciates being home with you but I'd bet that it's a bit of a relief to have her go back. Being a caregiver is not an easy task esp at our age even for a few hours. It's great that you're at the half way point on the baby blanket. I think I'm about a third of the way with my afgan although I'm not sure how long I'm going to make it. It's about 56 inches wide. I should have made it narrower I think because I want to have the length longer than the width...not a square.

I'm afraid I have become a Halloween grump. The stairs, my yappy dogs, age. When we first moved here 24 years ago, it was fun. Now parents drive their kids from house to house instead of walking with them. There's usually snow.
We eat early and go downstairs where lights cant be seen from the street. There are so many other possibilities for the children. Trick or treating at the mall or downtown and a haunted house at one of the schools, a maze.
Meg, I give or donate some of the caps and scarves, keep a lot of them. I don't have a plan. Last year I didn't make anything. A few years ago I did a lot. This year I've made several of each that I'm keeping. One year someone wanted me to make fifteen infinity scarves, and I almost said yes. i realized that would take all the fun out of things for me. This is supposed to be recreational and relaxing fun, not a business.
One DD and my DGKs (12 and 15) were here for a long weekend last week. My other DD was supposed to be here, too, but she was sick. We had a wonderful visit, and the DGKs figured that skiing here is a lot less expensive here than near Tahoe. They want to come back to ski! We visited our local ski hill and went up to catch a different view from the cabin which is close by. DGS ran and ran and ran around the meadow. Probably five miles! I wish we lived closer. I miss the closeness of Sunday dinners at my grandparents with my cousins who were my best friends. We went all different directions.

No one's stopped at my house in years on Halloween. OUr houses are just too far apart so plus there just aren't very children living in our development..now that I ever see anyway. Used to be people drove their kids around but now they drive them to an area where the houses are closer together.
Don't know how your weather is to the north but ours is beautiful today except for the strong wind.
Got my chores done now to sit and crochet.
Ginny, you're right about this afgan...it's not something a person would want to work on in the summer. It's really warm.
Tomorrow is errand and shopping day then later in the week a trip out too to take care of other business.
Have a great day everyone.

Started a post this am before church and never finished. Meg, sounds as though you had a lovely visit with Dd and I hope she was in a good mood. I am sure at the end of the day its nice to relax and knit or read. Glad you are halfway done with the baby afghan. A feeling of accomplishment!!! Nice project to do in the fall/winter now. Do you get many kids for Halloween? Does Devin go out trick or treating? Ruth, I can imagine its work just getting set up for errand day...I hate leaving the house and realising that I left something at home. Hope the errands go well. Do you have enough yarn to make the afghan as long as you like?? Bet it looks wonderful. Sue, SNOW? As a retired school bus driver, I love the word- and would always hope for a snow day. Are you. Supposed to get much? How far do your grandkids live from you? What are you working on in craft land? Got to church this am- wonderful sermon from Pastor. I did finish my strip piecing last night and now just have to iron it and I am ready for class. I decided to go random with how I put the strips together, and am happy with the results. Hope to work on a Christmas ornament later on....tomorrow we babysit so its going to be a busy day Hi To CJ and Phyl- Oh CJ- thanks for the time elapsed fall photography!! So pretty Ginny

Oh and yes, Ruth, they are desparate for drivers. Almost wish I had a few weeks of the middle school kids I drove home....a few needed “attitude adjustment”. Ha ha ha G

Ginny, congratulations on getting the strips all done and ironed. Now you're all ready for the class and won't have that on your mind.
71 degrees here today and tomorrow is to be nice too but then rest of the week will be in high 40's, low 50 so that won't be too bad either.
Ginny, I'm not sure how long I'm going to make this afgan. I have more of the yarn than I thought so will probably keep going until I get close to using it all up while trying to save enough for the edging....or until it looks ok or until I get tired of repeating the same stitches over and over hahaha.
Yes I'm sure that many of those children haven't been taught how to act properly on a school but or in school either so they are probably a big challenge to most bus drivers. That's another thing that makes you a valuable employee is that you are strict but fair and know how to do that without, as they say..losing your cool

Ginny, my DGKs and DD and DSIL are in California. My other DD and DSIL are in NYC. Small family! My sister died in late August. She was three years younger and had no children.
I don't know how much snow! We had 10" the first week in September, and there was a little bit left when DGKs were here. All gone now though. Since then we've had a delightful Indian Summer. Tomorrow morning I have to allow enough extra time to get to an early appointment! School only closes if it's -20 because that's too cold for the buses which run on diesel.
I sure hope the fall clean up gets done before the leaves are covered with snow that stays!
Sue
