Good morning and Happy Saturday! Sue, early on in the game when we started this thread here (after WW closed its boards ) we adopted something like this as a defintion of crafting: Crafting includes the following activities; actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward crafting activity. Gee, did I forget something? THe idea here is for us to stimulate and encourage each other to be creative and all the above mentioned activities do that! Don’t beat yourself up- you crafted yesterday! You too CJ- but you already knew our wacky rules. Quilt class was fun. Got a ton of homework to get done in the next 3 weeks...will chat about it later on. Gotta go babysit for a short while. BBL Ginny BTW, I am considering adding our “definition” of crafting to our opening on Monday- it might help others who seem scared to join us realize we are a friendly bunch and our definition of crafting should not limit who posts. What do you think of that idea?

Hello Crafters - Hope you are enjoying the weekend Ginny - I'm glad to hear you enjoyed the class. I look forward to hearing about it. Hopefully you can get your homework done early to be ready for the next session. Hope you enjoy the grandkids today. I think it would be fine to add that definition to the opening post each week. If only actually working on or completing a craft counted, I would have been kicked out of here a long time ago Sue - I hope you can get your record keeping done, paperwork and all those things really can be overwhelming. Ruth - I'm glad you've finished the headbands, what else are you working on now? Phyl - Hope you are enjoying your retreat. Meg - I hope the fires haven't affected you, I've been thinking of you and hoping you and your family are O.K. I'm sitting here enjoying my "morning" cup of English Breakfast tea. I've been drinking that tea first in the day and then later I usually have a Red Rose cup of tea. The weather here is very sunny and pretty, but cold and windy. I think the wind chills are in the 20s. I'm staying inside where it's warm and enjoying watching some of the PBS cooking shows. Take care everyone!

I started a message but then a message popped up that said ddil had sent photos so I said bbl and hit the send button but evidentally it didn't go through.
One of the things I mentioned was that I hope those horrific fires are not near Meg but it sounds like they might be so am praying that she and her family are safe.
CJ even if you never did any of those things that qualify (according to our list) you would never be tossed off. We enjoy your company and besides that we know you will get back to actual construction of quilt tops when you feel up to it. As we mentioned, forcing ourselves is just not a good thing. It takes all the joy our of making things That's yet another reason I don't take orders and sell things. I don't want to feel that I HAVE to make certain things.
Sue I love watching the wildlife but some things are becoming scarcer in number because of all the building, the atv's and all the dog walking. There are not nearly as many of the proghorn antelope as there used to be and the prairie dogs that were in the open land behind our house all disappeared.
Ginny, have a great time with the grands. They grow up so fast. Mine that live near are all adults now but one and the others are growing up way too fast. Every time I get pictures I can't believe how much they've grown!!
Pictures were of the children opening their birthday presents. The Bible cover fit wonderfully. Grandaughter loved the ear warmers I sent to see if she liked the color. IN the picture she had on the ear warmer and the butterfly fingerless gloves.
CJ, I don't have all the headbands done yet. I still have 3 more to make but I did work out the graph so that the trees would be a little smaller and they actually look better this way if I do say so myself. I think I'll make the other three just using a dc or a hdc because the post stitch does make them quite thick which is great if you want warmth but since these are probably only going to be used as a Christmas thing they don't really need warmth. I don't think that 19 yr old dgs will want a Christmas ear warmer so I'll make him a post stitch one just plain as it will be very nice and warm for him. I also saw a pattern for one with pockets that you could put those chemical hand warmers in the keep your ears warm. I might make one of those for him..not sure yet...probably will make both.
Ginny, yes I think putting that in the opening is a great idea. I don't know how many people look around Proboards or the WW area of it but at least if they do they will see that we are not set on people only doing one or two particular crafts.I was so glad to have Sue join us and I hope that others will come too. I don't like a thread that has TOO many people but we could use a few more.

There was lots of ironing at class- and yes the instructor told us to iron after each strip was sewn to make it less burdensome. We learned how to applique. I have lots of homework, to make 3 more of the appliqued trees on blocks that we made yesterday- and of course the applique top stitch and some decorative stitching in the tree. My machine is a bit more basic than most, but has a cute star pattern decorative stitch that I am pretty sure will work just fine. Good class- I like the instructor a lot and she really helped each of us. It was fun working with Jane and Sabita- we had our own table (7 attendees , one table for 4 and one for 3, we took the table for 3). We will have to put the binding on the table runner when done (good thing I took the binding class!!!). The other nice part was that all those darned strips?? Well, it sure looks like I will be able to get another table runner in trees from them). (Save me some work!). And Suzanne told us to save all our scraps- she has yet another project for us to use up them. The second and final class is November 30- which gives me time to do my homework. I know I will need some time to play with decorative stitches too. Oh brother, what did I get myself in for!
BBL to add more.... G

good evening,
cj sometime as crafters we just go into a limbo.we want to do something but just don't feel like we want to do something and just don't know if we want to pick up the projects we are working on or start another project. you will get back to quilting when you are ready.
ginny glad you are enjoying your class. would love to be there with you.
the retreat was alot of fun. alot of quilting. alot of food. no where near ww friendly.that is how it goes. our last night there went to the westby supper club. nice way to end the week.
the project they had was to make a pin cushion.ellie designed it from 3 patterns.was made out of wool. I did not make one wish I had now.the cushion was shaped like .then you had this strip and cut it into so many piece. sew them onto the top of the pumpkin and put those color clips on it.so cute.
I mostly sewed on nathan's cinn bangels quilt top.got some squares turned around in the rows so had to redo them. good thing the rows were not sewed into a top yet.not all the rows were that way.
when we woke up yesterday we woke up frozen snow on the ground and very cold. we went to the local mcd. then the local quilt shop. then nita decided to take us on an adventure.we went to the town of fennimore. they have a big beautiful quilt shop there. 5 or 6 big rooms of fabric and some had yarn in it. then we stopped in a small town we came through on the way to fennimore.small quilt and gift shop there. then nita was hungry and we stopped at a&w
think I have gained 4 pounds in 4 days.phyl

Hi everyone, It has been a busy week. Janet came home from the hospital on Wed. Her hand was swollen and when they took the cast off they discovered sores which had become infected so they put her in the hospital for 3 days. I met with her visiting nurse and care giver on Thursday. The nurse will visit until she is completely healed.
The weather is much cooler here and the smoke from the fires makes it overcast. The fires are a few miles from where I live but it has been very windy and blows the smoke everywhere. I am wearing a sweat shirt for the first time today. I went to Walmart yesterday looking for Hanes sweat pants which they usually carry. They didn't have them so I ordered some from Hanes web site last night. I like to sleep in sweat pants because the circulation in my legs is not good and if my feet are cold I can't sleep.
cj, I think this should help you locate the PBS web site where you can sign up for the Masterpiece news letter. They send out lots of information and interviews with the actors. I enjoy getting it every week. I thought I had copied the url but seem to have lost it but if you go to PBS and check on Masterpiece theater I am sure you can find it. Perhaps you already have.
Ginny, there is another sewing crafting thread on the Over Sixties and that may be why we don't have more people on our thread. I am glad you have been enjoying your classes and getting some new ideas.
Ruth. I am glad your DGD is enjoying her ear warmers and gloves. I don't have anybody to make things like that.
phyl, I am glad you enjoyed visiting the quilt shops and you had a friend with you to enjoy it. So you have snow ...brrrrr keep warm and stay safe on the road.
Sue, I hope that you and your DH are keeping well. Do you have any snow yet?
I started this post and lost some of it . I wish you all a good evening.

It's good to see everyone. Ginny your class sound not only like fun but it sounds it is very informative and productive. It's always great to go to a class and find that the instructor is a good one and is very helpful. I'm glad too that you are going to be able to make a second table runner with the fabric and that the instructor has a surprise in store for using the scraps. When I attended the one series of quilt classes and we had the actual owner of the shop as instructor one day she did the same...threw in a bonus project.
Phyl, it sounds like you had a great time both at the retreat and on the way home. Now that you're back home you can get back on track, go to the gym and lose what you "found" while "retreating"
Meg, I was wondering why Janet was in the hospital. I'm sorry to hear she got infections under the cast but I'm glad to hear she's ok now. I'm glad too to hear that the fires aren't really close to you and I hope it stays that way. Having all that smoke is bad too but much better than having your house burn down or worse.
CJ, are there good tv programs on this weekend that you will enjoy watching? I think they Holiday baking show is on Monday evening right? Or is it Tuesday
Yes Becki has a "sewing of all kinds" on the over 60's but she doesn't have many people there either. She also welcomes people who do all kinds of crafts. I know there's a lot of people that do various types of crafting but I guess they don't want to talk about it on here.
I did another headband today so far. I had a few things I needed to do before that so got a late start.

Good evening! Phyl- welcome home! Sounds like your retreat was wonderful- and I am glad you had such a good time. As far as the pin cushion craft, perhaps you can email for directions or find something similar on youtube.
Meg, oh that must be so upsetting that Janet’s hand became infected. Sounds as though she is getting good care, and its encouraging that they will send a nurse to assess the wound daily until it is healed. I hope that having an injury is not upsetting to her and that she allows it to heal properly. Will pray that this latest fire is under control very very soon. Will keep you and Janet in prayer.
CJ- ok, so lets get serious here. I have gone for weeks while each of you has had time to craft and all I did was work or babysit....and noone threw me off this thread! We love you here and you are “one of us”. I for one, reallly enjoy it when you share blogs of others quilting endeavors....and of course we love to hear about it when you quilt or get to a quilt show. (Like hearing about the cooking shows too!). Yes, its cold.....stay warm.
Ruth, glad you got another headband done! Indeed its a shame that we all have other things to do beside crochet, sew...whatever craft we are active with that day.
BTW, my instructors name was Susanne....and I guess I have to add attending craft/quilting shows to our definition. I just thought it was a good idea to start the week with our “definition” of crafting so that those who really want to craft and just cannot get the time can still join us. Seriously, I do not think we will ever get all that busy here...but want others (and our newest friend Sue!) to know that the definition of crafting we use here is rather loose.
Spent a few minutes on the ornament and some time researching (using my machine manual) which stitches I want to experiment with for the applique and top stitching.
Have a good evening Ginny

good sunday morning. the pincushion was designed by ellie. she used 3 different patterns.
she is so busy if I ask her to email me a pattern she forgets.
elli is a quilter, has designed some quilts, now is going to school to become a master computer something.
the sewing and crafting thread is from the old ww threads. a friend named judy was the leader. when ww stopped those threads she and some friends went over to facebook. so I asked becki to set us up.
facebook is not for everybody.
we are more like a genric thread.I probably talk more about crafting then any of them.
we get visitors but they don 't stay long.
having lunch at home today. not sure if we will bum. might be to long of a day for don if we stay home. he does not like long sundays. whent he weather is really bad then it is a different story.phyl

Ok, I just lost my post.
Phyl, indeed as Ellie for the pattern! You were at the class and just chose to make the pin cushion afterward. Its always impressive those who can design quilts and projects like that out of the blue. There is a talent for that. Best of luck to her as she becomes a master instructor.
Got to church this am- think Dh and I are going for a walk. Then I hope to play with my machine a bit and work on possible applique stitches and top stitches. G

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm glad you checked in but sorry to hear about the smoke problems. I hope it gets better soon and you keep safe. Phyl - Sounds like you had a great time at the retreat. I bet that large quilt store was fun to visit, probably lots of beautiful fabric. Ginny - I've never liked machine applique much. I love the look of the blanket stitch, but couldn't master it on my machine, I did much better with a zigzag stitch. Using one of the decorative stitches is a good idea too. Ruth - I'm glad you're still making progress on the headbands. The Holiday Baking Championship show comes on Monday night at 9:00 P.M. on the Food Network. Last week was good, I'm looking forward to the rest of the season. Sue - Hope you are doing something fun this weekend. The weather here is sunny and cold again today, but much less wind - so a pretty fall day. I'll be checking out the Slow Stitching Sunday blogs at: kathysquilts.blogspot.com/Take care everyone!

Good morning all. It's still cold....oh that's right, it's winter. It's going to be cold for months. Blah
Phyl, I joined a crochet group on facebook. I thought it would nice and it was in a way but too many people post about their sales and craft shows they sell at. They want to know how much to charge, etc. There were tons of posts every day so I had to unjoin. Also Facebook seems to be acting strange..even when you click the recent posts icon you end up getting posts from several days ago and then sometimes not many at all before it says that if you want to see more you have to add more friends so I gave up on it pretty much and only check there to see pictures of the great grands and to send messages to family members in pms
Now when I say I finished something I have a very loose definition on that too. Usually it means I finished the main part but still have to weave in all those pesky ends. So I have to finish two of the headbands, make one more then do thousands of ends. I even have a long blister on my thumb where my crochet hook usually sits while I'm crocheting so I've had to adjust the positioning of the hook in my hand.
Ginny, sometimes it's fun to try out those decorative stitches. I have to say that with all the sewing machines I've had, I've never used a decorative stitch. I might have to try some once I get to some sewing.I've had a goal for years of making buttonholes but still haven't done that either and actually I no longer have a need to make buttonholes
CJ, I love seeing those blogs so am going to head over there in just a minute while I have a nice hot cup of coffee since my other cup got cold helping dh find his peanut butter and honey for his toast.
PHyl, You and Marm from the lifetimers thread are both on the go a whole lot. Both of you have hubby's that like to be out and about. I'm glad mine is happy with sitting home a lot. But just like facebook being not for everyone, sitting home sure is not for everyone either.
Can you all believe that tomorrow is time for a new week's thread already. Sometimes time just goes by so fast!

Hello everyone, I got up early this morning and went to church. I haven't been for ages but it was my turn to bring refreshments and help with coffee hour. When I went out to get in my car the sun was shining but the air was full of smoke from the fires. Though I am not close to the fires the wind blows the smoke for miles So many people in Ca. have lost their homes over the past few months. Of course people in different parts of the country have also lost their homes and they all need our prayers.
I hope we all have our flags flying today. DS got ours out early. I did quite a bit of crocheting last night. I will keep going until I run out of yarn and that is getting close. I probably could have finished last night but I got tired. My hands are getting really stiff and sore. But I will keep going as long as I can.
Ginny, Janet and I thank you for your prayers. Adding your definition of crafting to your open on Monday is a good idea.
cj, I am all set to watch Poldark tonight. I think this season will be over soon. I hope you sign up for the Masterpiece e-mails. they send out a lot of good information every week.
phyl, I think a lot of the folk who used to post on the old WW boards are now posting on FB. I do have a FB account but I don't post very often. I have the account so that I can check up on family members in the UK.
Ruth, I used to hate sewing in the ends but I don't mind now I just relax and do it.
Hi Sue, hope all is well at your home.
I think I am going to read this afternoon and probably work on one of my b/blankets.

It's been snowing occasionally, and the temperature is supposed to go down to 7 tonight! It will be above freezing most of this week.
This would be a good evening for sitting in front of the fireplace and crocheting. Alas, there is no fireplace, and I'm working on record keeping.

Good evening! Sue, you are sure having cold weather! Hope that your record keeping goes smoothly...It is surely not one of my favorite passtimes!!
Meg, glad you got to church today. Yes, its so sad that these fires have made so many homeless. Makes each of us thankful for what we have and sad for those who have lost their homes. Hope you were able to watch Poldark this evening;
Ruth- at times my definition of “finished” is like yours. Finished, but not completed. I find Facebook frustrating also. Guess that is why I am here and not there.
CJ-yes mastering the applique stitches is a challenge, and I understand your frustration. Thanks for the link for the slow stitch blog!! Hope you stayed comfy and warm on this cold windy day.
Worked on an ornament for a while, and also figured out which decorative stitch I will use. Found one that is really cute, and looks sort of what the instructor used. Of course I have a $400 machine and hers costs in the thousands.... I am VERY happy I found a stitch that will look nice. Gotta work on the applique stitch though.
Ginny
