Ginny, well I'm sure that brisk walks are even better for us but I hate to go out in the cold. I do remember you saying that you will have to improvise in the backing but weren't worried since it won't be seen anyway but Yes, still a decision on what route to take.
Sue I do remember that you said you liked fleece for dog blankets and I think it's a fantastic idea. I often have wondered if those expensive dog beds actually hold up to dogs using them. and as you said fleece is easy to launder.
Well I look high and low for a credit card today. I opened this one in the beginning of Sept because they offered me a $100 credit. Well I didn't know if I got the credit or not so was going to look online but my login wouldn't work so I tried the "forgot my user name or password" but they required the account number. Went to get the card and couldn't find it. Coulldn't get it from the bill because statement is online so I had to resort to calling and not only couldn't I not hear but she also had an accent of some kind so even when she spoke louder I still really couldn't understand what she was saying...exactly why I don't like talking on the phone. Anyway I think all is fixed. They're sending a new card so I can activate the new one and set a new user name and password. Strange though because I had just set this all up in middle of Sept and it worked then. I must have written it down incorrectly

I had to go into town today with hb. We had a treat going both ways. There was a huge group of Canada geese and then a herd of elk off in one of the field. At least 100-150. They seem to know that they're safe on private land!
I recycled a lot of cardboard boxes, bought dog food, stopped by the CPA's office to sign, and picked up my sunglasses. Because I had a new prescription, I got bifocals for replacements lenses. I found exactly the right frames for a new pair of glasses in about three minutes while I was waiting for the optician, so I ordered new glasses. Which are almost completely covered by insurance. I have a prescription blue lens because of my problem with post concussion light sensitivity.
Tomorrow I'm going to quilting, so I may start a little bit of work this afternoon ... or I may not!
I was very impressed by one of the managers at petsmart this morning. She materialized out of nowhere just as I was loading a bag of dog food into tha cart. I wanted one more, so she took care of that, helped several other customers, mopped the floor where there was an oopsident, and took the cart out for me to put things in the car. I thought she was new to the store, but she's been there since it opened fifteen years ago. New promotion. I'd say it was an excellent decision. There are so many situations now that require double checking that I like to compliment the people who do a good job.
Part of the paperwork I'm doing right now has to do with one of those negligent situations. Work that wasn't done, double charges, hours that weren't worked, fictitious billing, rewriting of invoices. It's quite incredible. I will run a total when I'm through. I can't afford to sue the person responsible on my own, but some of this may wind up in small claims Court. If I can find 2-5 more people .... and if some of the tradespeople who were underpaid would testify ... makes me wish I had been paying attention.
hb has an appointment with the doctor in two weeks. I'm planning to request a referral to the neurologist who saw him about ten years ago, roughly at the beginning of his cognitive problems.

Sue, I've never see elk or moose here.. in large animals only the antelope and deer both mule and white tail. One night there was mountain lion on our porch. I didn't actually see it be dh caught a glimpse and we knew one was in the neighborhood because it had killed a neighbor's dog the night before.
Must be that everyone else is busy today or else I missed the posts. I hope everyone is having a good one

This feels like it has been a long day. I went to quilting this morning. For the first time in a long time, almost everyone was there. One woman is in Florida for half the year. Another's husband just died two days ago after a pronged illness. Our hostess has such a lovely combination of holiday treasures acquired over a lifetime of interesting travels. Everything has a story and special meaning.
Afterwards I was headed to pick up some groceries, and I realized that the traffic was backed up with lanes merging into one, so I went around the block and headed to a different supermarket. Mission accomplished, so I went to the hardware store and picked up a few items I needed. hb's caregiver brought in the groceries before he had to leave to go to his afternoon class.
The dogs have been fed.
There should be a beautiful sunset in about half an hour. There are clouds to the west, just enough.
This evening is reading time!

BUsy day here, and its been a long one.
CJ- thanks for the links to the Pat Sloan quilt. I much prefer the 16/17 let it snow block, which for me just seems to allow different fabrics to shine better. Hope you get your momentum back quilting....
Sue- hope you enjoyed that beautiful sunset....sounds like you had a very productive day indeed. Glad you got to quilting.
Ruth, that must have been so frustrating with the credit card. Good to hear that it was all straightened out and that a new card will be sent.
Drove this am....then babysat for DGD who is still a bit “off”. She is still a pretty easy baby though. Tomorrow is the last day of quilting class. I think I will be glad when this is over. The table runner is coming out well, but the process is a bit frustrating.
Have a good night all Ginny

Hello Ginny, Ruth, cj, phyl & Sue, I has been an odd couple of weeks and I have not had much computer time. Sometimes I just don't want to type as my hands hurt so sometimes I just read your posts. I have been crafting and just finished a b/blanket last evening. I want to start a afghan for DD and I am trying to decide just which pattern I am going to use. I have a big bag of Vanna White yarn in different colors that I want to use up. I have had it for years. I will not get it finished for Christmas but that's OK I have already bought her some clothes so she wont miss the afghan. She was home for Thanksgiving and was very grumpy. She has been in such a good mood for quite awhile.
I have been watching Hallmark in the morning when they do their Christmas crafts. They make it so easy., but I am not a crafty person. Now I am going to find a pattern for the afghan which I want to start before I go to bed as I want to work on it when I go to my Knit Wits group tomorrow. We have rain here this week. A lot to be thankful for
I wish you all a good night.

Ginny, enjoy the quilting class. I hope your grandbaby is completely well soon. It's not fun to have a sick baby because they can't communicate what's wrong. IN this case you know it's a cold but if anything hurts like her sinuses or anything she can't tell you'
CJ, I agree about the blocks. Some are really nice others not so much
Meg, I hope you enjoy knitwits today and congratulations on getting the baby blanket done. I hope you find a pattern you like to make your dd an afgan. There are some really pretty ones but I'm sure your vision hinders you trying to do some stitches. Sorry Janet was grumpy on Thanksgiving. Does she have grumpy spells like that or did something upset her or make her angry before she came to your house.
I was going to go the the post office today but now not so sure. It looks lke a blanket of snow is moving towrd my house and I don't like driving in snow or even rain as I can't see well in it.
WEll as far as crafting goes, when moving things in the craft cave I was reminded of all the baby blankets still needing edging and also the two afgans still in progress...the one the Caps for Kids leader gave me that needs blocks put together and one I started to make for a dear friend way back in probably 1995 or around there. It's just a big granny square but made with about 5 different colors and to me it looks like it's almost done so I'll have to check it out to see what size it is right now and maybe just do an edging. My friend is deceased now but I'll keep it and it will be a nice reminder of her. Her passing was just one of the many tragic and near tragic things that happened in 2006. Only bright point that year was the birth of my dgd Lily.I went there to be with the other children while ddil was in the hospital and the children and I had a great time.

hi crafters, good gosh haven 't been here since the26th. looks like we might get 4 inches of snow over the weekend.
some of those blocks are so busy you can't tell what they are suppose to be like.guess it is in the eye of the beholder.
I think sometimes what we picture in our mind does not come out as pretty as we think it will.
not sure I will get nathans's quilt done before we leave for ky.needs a couple more rows put on. then the boarders. then sandwich it before I can quilt it.
maybe valentines day a package will
today is the chiro. I want to go to the tree house and see if I can find a little something to send to my friend gloria in idaho.
have a good rest of the day. phyl

Phyl, well its that time of year when things get so busy that sometimes getting online is next to impossible. Glad you could check in-. Hope your visit to the chiropractor went well and that you are more comfortable. How long will you be in Kentucky for? What a cute idea to give Nathan the quilt. Thin for Valentines day. Sort of like. Giving him a special hug in the mail. And I think we have all had that experience, thinking that a pattern or fabric combination will look beter than it actually does. And some combinations look better from afar, as opposed to close Meg- so glad you stopped in! First it was fires and just this morning I heard about flooding in California. (Wondered if you were ok). So sorry that your visit with Janet was not as good as other recent visits. Some individuals do not respond to too much stimulation or change in routine. I wonder if Janet falls in that category. I know you will pick out a perfect pattern and yarn combination for an afghan for her. One of the nice things about having a yarn stash.
Ruth, sounds as though 2006 was an “annus horribilis” for you. Thankfully your DGD Lily was also born that year....something positive to remember and a new dear family member to love. Think we all have UFO’s and UYO’s , why are projects so much fun to start but so difficult to finish? Did you get much snow today?
Quilt class was ok- really we did not learn much and did not finish the table runnerl. Hopefully I can find the time to finish it here at home. I am looking forward to starting my quilt as you go project.....as soon as I finish the table runner.

Snow just started falling here a little while ago. I checked the weather forecast, and it's likely to snow all night. We'll see how much in the morning.
Today I covered the bottom third of the bay window, and the little woofers can't see what's going on outside, so they aren't barking. I used wrapping paper folded in half., so both inside and outside look okay. It's a silver background with tasteful white snowflakes. We have some nutcrackers, and I added the three pots of Christmas cactus that haven't bloomed yet. Tomorrow they'll get a good watering with liquid fertilizer. There are some baskets of artificial pointsettias that I've had for a few years that will add splashes of color here and there around the living room. At least this point I'm going to pause and think before I do anymore!
hb's caregiver was here and took hb to the bank, the lab for some bloodwork, and stopped to pick up some pizza. The caregiver is the one who moved the pots and brought the Christmas things upstairs from the garage! It's always a pleasure to put out the Nativity scene each year. This year it was a special pleasure to have a would be woodcarver appreciate the beauty of the individual pieces!
In spite of having help with the heavy things, my back is weary! Tomorrow I'm going back to number crunching to rest up!

Ginny, I'm sorry to hear both that the class wasn't all that good today and also that you weren't able to finish the table runner.I guess sometimes it's just nice to be out but it would have been great if you'd been able to get that project done. Hopefully it will be finished soon and you can start on your next project which does sound interesting Sue we got pizza while out too. It great that your hubby's caregiver helps with ohter things also. Speaking of nativity sets I need to get mine out. The figures themselves aren't wood. They were given to me by a dear friend I used to work with here and she's now deceased also like my other friend. My dh made the stable Yes we did go out. Hubby said last night that I might have to go alone to take care of the post office and banking but this morning he decided that he would go with me so we were also able to get our shopping done and shouldn't have to go out for a couple weeks. The snow didn't come after all. Instead it kind of drizzled the whole time. I even took our new car...only because the old one wouldn't start. So now that I've had this trip out in it I feel more comfortable driving it. I still don't know how to work any of the "newfangled things" that are on it but I did see that the backup camera came on when I was backing into the driveway. I don't really trust them though so backed up the old fashioned way. Came home and after putting away things and having a bite to eat I started on dgd's cowl. I have her earwarmer done. The cowl in made in the round and I had to start it over three times before I got the third row done without it being twisted. Then my laptop starting making that awful hard drive noise again so I had to shut it off and couldn't see the pattern. I had asked my ds about the noise and he agreed that my computer is probably about to bite the dust.No sense getting it fixed because I could buy a new one for what they would charge me. I ran into that "interesting" woman I met when I was in Walmart last week. I had mentioned her to dh so he was surprised too that I ran into her again. Now I'm her nbf Dh is always commenting on how I attract "interesting" people.

Happy Saturday all!
Sue, your newly decorated Christmas window sounds lovely. It must be comforting and cheery- at least that is the way most Christmas decorating is in my eyes. Even better yet is when the decorations are taken down- bringing in more light into the room and reminding us that spring is coming. Hope your back gets the rest it needs. Did you get much snow last night?
Ruth, it takes awhile to get used to those backup cameras- and I admit to using both the camera and mirrors. Its a good thing you are getting used to the new car, and hopefully will be more comfortable using it the next time. I figure it must be your big heart that attracts “interesting” people. From my experience- and I would trust what your Ds says long before I trust my word, but when a computer starts whining, its the hard drive and yes, its probably time to replace the computer. Make sure any files you need are backed up on a flash drive as you will lose all those files. Hope you are able to find your nativity set- which I hope is a comfort to you in remembrance of your friend and your faith in the Lord. Were you able to get the cowl instructions after your computerl woes?
Ds’s alarm went off at 5 am- which kept ringing....of course I feared he was sick or even worse......so got up myself after 10 minutes to see what was going on. Lord knows how, but Ds slept through 10 minutes of it ringing....and yes, he woke up enough to shut off the alarm. He was probably up very late last night as its his first day off.
Worked a bit on the table runner this am- am setting things up to make the quilt sandwich. Its going to be pretty, I think. All in all a good experience making it. THe two women I went to class with agreed, that the second class was not really necessary- but the instructor did show us how to glue on tiny jewels on the trees in the pattern to give it extra sparkle. Guess Dh and I are going shopping today- not sure.
Watched a lot of the coverage of the passing of President Bush (41). I think he was a rare gracious man- its a joy hearing about his life and how much he loved his wife and family.

good morning. just about ready to go back to bed.climbed out a little after 4 for no reason.could not get back to sleep.
I think the first bushe's were probably the most down to earth president and lady we ever had. least in our decade..
remember the year barabra had people send in home made items for the white house tree.
I did find gloria a snowman that looks like a marshmallow.might go back and get one for me.it is from store called made for you.they are are only here till the 31st.he has been coming for the past 4-5years.
ginny sometimes classes are like that.some days you get alot out of the class and some days not.
did she use the heated tool to show you how to put the sparkles on? that is one tool I do not have. never done sparkles yet.
yes ruth you still have to use the mirrors.our neighbor skippy dgd was learning how to drive. she stareted backing out of the driveway.he stopped her and said what are you doing.she said using the camera. he said no you still have to use the mirrors.
when we treated bernice to lunch this fall I was backing out and said I saw a little boy behind the car is he gone. delona said you have a camera use it. I Told her camera's do not show everything you still have to use the mirrors.
sue your window sound pretty.great idea.
cj wonder what kind of sew along blocks pat will have next year? I know on the christmas one I would have used my own fabric or bought a fat quarter now and then.
what ever you do today enjoy the day.we might 1-3 inches. phyl

The snow guy has already been here to clear the driveway. Maybe 4" of very powdery, fluffy snow.
I am really enjoying the bay window arrangement. Simple, yet effective. There is a window without glass above the kitchen sink. On the other side is the dumbwaiter I had installed when we decided to move back into the house. I'm covering the top with the same paper that's in the bay window and putting the biggest poinsettia basket there with two tall red pillar candles.
The local ski area opened Thanksgiving weekend. There must have been more snow in the Canyon than we thought. The winter sports enthusiasts must be thrilled! I used to enjoy x-c skiing around a track in the meadow nearby, but I've never been one for dashing down hillsides at high speeds! Not too fond of roller coasters either.
I've been watching some of the programming about President Bush this morning. I have the greatest respect for him and the honorable man he was.
