i have 2 ladies who come in every other week to do my heavier cleaning that I can no,longer do. They work for a company. I pay $65 & they are here probably just under an hour (small house, no tidying up or anything). I don't know what they get from that $65. At any rate, i would like to give them a tip,for Christmas but I'm at a loss for how much. Thoughts?

I always wonder about different types of tipping. If you Google it seems that $20 is a general tip amount. I would say unless you know them well and they are super at their job then go for more.

They're really nice but I wouldn't say they were super at their job-good-but not outstanding. I was thinking $20 each also.

We have a cleaning lady. She does the work herself and it takes her about 1.5 hours. She does a good job. Maybe not Spring cleaning, but a good job. Better than I could do in 1.5 hours. She's been coming every other week to my house for 16 years. Yes, 16 years. We have a small townhouse but pay $100. We live in an expensive area. We plan to give her $40 or $50 in a card as a Christmas gift. Some years we've given less with a reasonably nice bottle of wine or other small gift.

I think the general rule is to tip the amount of one service. So if you pay $65 for both, I'd probably tip each $30-$35.

Normal for a Christmas gift/tip is the cost of the service. Our cleaning "team" usually costs me between $150 to $200. I've been giving them $200, in cash, at Christmas. They do a great job.

I pay $75 for someone that does a good job (wish I could take her to the new place) and yes, I gave her $75 as a gift.

I get the NY Times delivered on Saturday & Sunday. It's by an adult with a car. They put a card in the paper for a tip. Do you think $10 is too little ? Thanks.

Sulli, I'm in Missouri and I think for what you give them that $20 each is fine.

Interesting question.
If you're paying $65 for two people who work for an agency, it's a good bet that they may not even be seeing $20 each per visit.
$20 apiece with, perhaps, some small token gift would seem appropriate.
Tipping guidelines in general have crept up from 15% to 18%, and even at 18% and tipping on the full cost you pay for the service, 18% total would be $11.70, so $40 total seems generous.

I'm at a quandry. I have a cleaning lady who just started, charged me $200 the first time and $125 the second time. I bought her lunch the first time. She is coming again next week, what do you suggest??

Linda, Is this her own business? If so, she sets the prices & isn't paying anyone else so she pockets it all, less expenses. If this is just her 3rd time, I'd say a small token gift...if even that. Maybe buy her lunch again or a bottle of wine. Personally, I wouldn't give any cash & all who know me know that I am far from cheap.
Alias, not sure about a tip,for newspaper delivery. There are probably a lot of people who don't tip so I would think a person would be grateful for any amount, imo.

sullicat1, thanks for the advice. It is her own business. I think I'll give her some Christmas cookies and get them out of my house. Don't know her well enough for other things...
