Canada German settlers migrated to Canada from the United States in the 1700s. They brought with them many of the things associated with Christmas we cherish today—Advent calendars, gingerbread houses, cookies—and Christmas trees. When Queen Victoria’s German husband, Prince Albert, put up a Christmas tree at Windsor Castle in 1848, the Christmas tree became a tradition throughout England, the United States, and Canada.

Good morning Lucy and ATF.
Only one more week until Christmas Eve. Is everyone ready??? I still have shopping to do but we're not having our Christmas celebration with our kids and grandkids until New Years Day so I have plenty of time to finish.
Today is the Christmas celebration with DH family. Always so much fun with lots of people, games and so much food. Not sure if we're going to get there because of the snow and bad roads. Have to see what happens in the next couple of hours.
Lucy, I really enjoy reading the daily history you post. Thanks for doing that
Have a good day. bettyj

Good morning, Lucy, is that house edible? What a lot of work.
Hi, Bettyj.
Cold here but clear. It is 27 and not 17 as predicted. Had box lunches last two meals. I hope the staff shows up today.

Good Morning Jolly Folks, Well, I guess I had better quit trying to reply to posts all in one post since I gave away a Yorkie yesterday. I just could not get the names right.
Kathie, I do not know how to help you. Jenny had a suggestion you might try.
Betty slept in last night on the back porch. Today will be warm until the norther hits so I will get her stuff moved inside. 60 now. A very warm night. Just kept getting warmer. Forecast: "Saturday Night: Windy, Bitterly Cold, 20% Light snow or sleet, small accumulations possible north, just flurries south….Lows 12 to 20, wind chills 5 below to 5 above." Yep, that's Texas for ya.
No news on Trace and my brother in law may be moved tomorrow. They are putting it off. Told my sis that hospital wants the money.
A niece a little older than my DD lost her husband late yesterday. What a Christmas for that family.
I guess I will clean house some today. May load some of my stuff in the back of the truck for my trip to son's next week. Gonna put on a cooker of soup for this cold front.
Someone asked a day or so ago if I could camp in my yard. Yes, and I have done that before. It makes me at least think I am camping.
I think Betty wants back in. Ya never know about her. I can open the door and she will turn and walk off. Oooops, there she goes. She just wants to be in charge.
Bearly is in my lap and I need another cup of coffee.
DD's boxer is in bad health. I think she should bite the bullet and have him put to sleep but I am not saying that to her.
Have a great Saturday and all you folks in snow and ice, stay inside. Don't want any injuries. KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS LUCY

Good morning.
I sit in my warm house looking out on a lot of ice -- and it's supposed to get much worse as the day wears on.
Haven't heard what happened at DD's last night. I know DSIL was met by his parents. They waited for the tow, but finally went to DD & DSIL's house. We had a thaw over night; so his parents may have taken that opportunity to head home; don't know for sure. I have no idea what will be done about DSIL's car.
There was a lot of chat on Facebook last night with the folks that had to deal with all the kids waiting at school for school buses. One school made grilled cheese sandwiches, one had a movie and popcorn event, at one school neighbors brought a kettle of soup. Everyone helped out. Buses were still picking up kids at school at 8:30 p.m.
We plan to stay inside today. I'm sure DH will have cabin fever. Fortunately, I have good food stocked up in the freezer. Guess I'll dip the buckeyes. I'd like to make another batch of quick fudge, but don't have any sweetened condensed milk. Not so necessary that I will go out to get it.
Stay warm and safe! BBL. --Molly
PS The Yorkie I knew was named Cinders. Her/his (can't remember which) daddy was a firefighter. He left her on the stop of the laundromat in their apartment complex to put the clothes in the dryer, and when he came out she had been stolen. We were all heartbroken. She didn't know she was little, she thought she was BIG! LOL!

Good Morning Lucy and Holly Jollies,
This morning it was 4º (feels like -15º) and windy with snow showers and the high is to be 5º and windy with snow showers during the morning and a snow accumulation of about 1” and wind NNW 25-35 mph. We are in a winter weather advisory until 6:00 PM today. We also have a wind chill advisory that frostbite can occur in just a few minutes of exposure. It sounds like a good day to stay inside.
MJ came down with the flu yesterday, aching all over and has a fever. She started on her Tamiflu last night. Yesterday Rachael was feeling a bit better but said her throat still hurts so she is taking Advil for that in addition to the Tamiflu and she feels good enough to want to eat. I hope she is feeling better when she wakes up this morning.
MJ said that on the way to pick up Hannah and Sarah after school the roads were already slippery and some cars had slid off the road and into the corn fields. When she got to Lincoln the city workers were just getting out to salt the streets. Sarah’s Christmas program was cancelled and I wonder when or if it will be rescheduled since there are only 3 more school days until Christmas break. Hannah was to sing the National Anthem before the basketball games last night at her school but they were cancelled because of the weather.
Another Japan memory: I remember living in Narashino, a suburb of Tokyo. We chose this place to build our house because it was close to the American School in Japan where the kids went to school and I worked and also close to the train station where Bill could catch the train to go to the places where he worked. He preferred to take the train rather than drive in the busy Tokyo traffic, which was nice because that way the station wagon was available for taking the kids to school on rainy days. In nice weather we would ride our bikes to school in the morning and there was a fairly steep hill we went down. We couldn’t just coast and had to brake our bikes going down and it was fun but walking the bikes back up after school wasn’t much fun. In the winter it could be chilly or downright cold but we got used to it. We only had one busy street we had to cross. I loved my bike back then but haven’t ridden one in years. More tomorrow.

Good morning, that is the entrance walkway to the front of our building. I will limit myself to one picture a day.
There is a nice sunrise here. I see some pink sunrise.
Lucy, Betty is a great weather vane. I think that is the word. Not really with it this morning.

I would not eat that gingerbread house. I imagine in would cost a fortune to have one made. I would figure a way to preserve it or freeze it or something so I could enjoy it another Christmas.
DD messaged me. They are having the boxer put to sleep.
Sorry about that Yorkie being stolen. I would about die if anything happened to my Bearly.

Hi Lucy and Jolly Ladies.
It's 0 and cloudy here, but feels like -11, the high 7. A lot of cities are on accident alert including Lakewood. The snow is supposed to start clearing soon and warming up a bit this afternoon.
As I said last night, I finished my shopping, but lost/misplaced a receipt. This receipt is valuable because I was overcharged for an item and we're talking about a $75 difference. When things clear up will go and get that done. Otherwise, will plan on hanging at home and wrapping gifts. Th second load of wash is going, and the sheets are in the dryer doing their thing, when these are done, will try to head out. Two more loads left for the day. Will also plan on watching a lot of shows I've got recorded to free up some space.
Cat, the front of your building is beautiful and very welcoming. Keep those pics coming. Hope you get a hot meal today.
Lucy, love the gingerbread house. Sorry to hear of the death of your DD's nicece's husband. Prayers for her and her family Prayers for your DD on having to put her dog down. This is always a difficult decision to make and follow through on.
Doris, sending you healthy vibe for your family.
Can't think so will start working on what needs to be done today. Will try to get back later.
