The current temperature is -6. Brrrr!
Unfortunately, I have two appointments this morning, but after that, I will be coming straight home.
hb seems to be okay, but I'm keeping an eye on him. By bedtime the bump was all kinds of shades of purple. In the back of my mind, I'm concerned about a possible subdural hematoma.

Sue, Wow- minus 6 is COLD!!! Hope your car starts easily in that frigid weather Sue and that your appointments go quickly so you can get home. Will your Dh be accompanying you? I know you also have a respite care worker, who perhaps can keep an eye on him. Its gotta be a huge challenge for you keep Dh safe and yet still permit some freedom for both him and you. I know nothing about subdermal hematoma’s or how they are treated....am sure that you will get treatment for him if you think its necessary.
At Dd’s- Dh pretty much has “‘custody” of DGS and I am caring for the baby who is sleeping. So in the interim I have unloaded and loaded the dishwasher (sink was full of dishes), straighened up the kitchen a bit and have a load of laundry going. 3 kids and a full time job is a challenge, and I am trying to help Dd#1 when I can. This is my only day at her house...the other 2 days be babysit at our home. To hear Sue talk about super cold weather makes me thankful for our brief reprieve from harsh winter weather. Today and tomorrow we are in the low 50’s. Ginny

Well it cooled down here too. It was 48 yesterday and just now I checked and my thermometer says 18. I'm glad it's not as cold as where Sue is...not yet anyway. Sue you know what to look for as far as symptoms go in your hubby.
Ginny, subdurals are treated according to how large they are. Sometimes removed by surgery making a "burrhole" in the skull and draining with gentle suction but if they're small they will resolve themselves. We'll pray Sue's hb is ok and doesn't need treatment.
Ginny, exactly what I would do too and used to do when babysitting dd's children. Mostly I played with the children but when they napped I would clean. I remember especially her younges who is now 13. Everytime I went over there he would say "lets go have some fun" and by that he wanted to search my car in case there were treats "accidentally " left in there or little toys such as hot wheel cars. Then we'd go for a walk. I miss those days. On Christmas when we got there he immediatly wanted me to go check out his bedroom which he had newly decorated and to see the presents he had already received that morning.DD's oldest who was 14 years older than the one that's now 13 always had a bedroom that was a gigantic mess and was always banished into there to clean it so when I went over I would always help him do that.
Well I did finally bite the bullet and made the lining for dgd's purse and hand sewed it in. Now today I'll make sure the Bible cover will fit and adjust as needed and sew it all together so that tomorrow I can wrap all the gifts and get them packed to maybe mail later this week. Her birthday was yesterday. Then I'll get going on the other dgd's bday that is next month and ddil's and after that I'll have until August to work on my choice of projects.
See you all later.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Sue - I'm sorry to hear about your DH's fall, I hope it won't be any more serious than the bruises. I would worry about head problems too, so hopefully you can keep an eye on him for any changes. It's tough when we start having balance issues, I saw that with my father. Stay warm! Ginny - I'm happy your DD found a bridal gown and the bridesmaids found their dresses too, that must have been a fun and quick appointment. I love looking at wedding gowns. Would you mind describing her gown a bit? I'm glad your snow was powdery and easy to shovel. Your DD is very lucky to have you and your DH to help her and help with the grandkids. Ruth - Sounds like you are making progress on your projects, I bet those girls love to get the handmade gifts from you. Meg - Hope the bad weather out there isn't affecting you. I guess living in California you expect all different extremes, but it's still tough to live through it. Also hope your DD is doing better and you're getting in some crafting. Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting done and maybe you are getting some of the milder weather after your cold temps. The weather here is very nice, in the 50s and sunny, like it was yesterday - tomorrow is supposed to be in the 60s! I wish I didn't have so much to do in the house, so I could go outside more, but I'll get out a bit. I made it through another storage tote yesterday, and have 3 more to go through. I opened one of them and thought I'd just start crying It is filled with papers that I know I will have to go through and then shred. I thought I had cleared out all my old receipts, checks, and other paperwork a few years ago when I had 4 or 5 large trash bags filled with paper. I was able to get a lot of it burned, but then I had to buy a heavy duty shredder to finish the rest of it. Guess I'll be getting use out the shredded this week. I looked at the blogs on the Slow Stitching website yesterday and also checked out some shops for the February FabShopHop. I saw several quilt patterns I liked, so I saved some pictures and maybe one day I'll get to them. Take care everyone!

CJ, I really need to go thru my file cabinet again and get rid of more paper. I mostly use paperless statements and checks now but I still have some that are mailed that I need to go through. I don't know why I save them since they are online but you never know when there will be a computer failure or internet failure just when you need something like this.this will be another thing I'll do after the March birthday projects are done
Yesterday I was trying to access the Red Heart yarn website and got an error message saying RH had redirected me too many times. I have no idea what that means but I did what was suggested and all that did was wipe out all my passwords so everywhere I've been today I've had to put in usernames and passwords and still can't get into RH on Chrome which is what I usually use. I can get there thru Internet Explorer though but it's weird how chrome works sometimes.
I was wondering if you ladies had suggestions for things i can make my ddil. I've already made her two or three cowl/infinity scarves, a hat and fingerless glove set, soap sacks, notepad holders for hanging on the wall, a pen holder tht goes over the spine of a book for her Bible, dishcloths which were knitted using the pattern Meg used, a tote thing that hangs on the headrest of the car, tealight holders, a wrist pouch so she didn't have to carry a purse or carry in her diaper bag iif she didn't want to,and probably other things I can't think of right now. I don't want to make a blanket or afgan because they're heavy and sending dgs' the other day was costly.

Ruth, does your ddil use the dish clothes? If she does, she could probably use a new set? If she has long hair, some headbands? A case for a cell phone?
It was bitterly cold out. It's been lots colder here, but not for a number of years. With snow in the forecast tomorrow, I won't be going to the caregivers' group. It's supposed to be a few degrees colder tomorrow!
This morning hb was at home alone. He had just gotten up, and his pattern is to sit and snooze. I left him with a cup of coffee. I told him how cold it was and told him not to go outside until I got home. He agreed that would be a good idea. I didn't run any errands, and the appointments were short and this side of town.
My father fell when he was 82 and hit his head on the front steps of their house. He was badly bruised and had two black eyes from the seepage from the subdural hematoma. About ten days later, he started having trouble holding a fork or spoon. Then he dropped a cup of very hot coffee. My mother took him to the doctor because of the burns. I found out when he was at the hospital for surgery. Two days later he had a seizure while I was visiting. He had been up and walking and was feeling good. From there it was four weeks of rehab before they sent him home, and he couldn't sit up by himself. He recovered, albeit slowly and lived another six years. The last two he was living on his own.
So I'm watching and observing very closely. Most blows to the head result in a subdural hematoma, but it's something to consider.
I wish someone would sort out the accumulated paper here! Oh! That's one of my jobs! hb wants to save everything and has financial papers, including bills from pre retirement which was 1990. I didn't meet him until eight years later. I found the boxes when I was cleaning out a storage room under the house. That's really odd because this is my house, and I didn't know the boxes were there or that he had saved all that stuff. It's been disappearing a little bit at a time during the summers. He doesn't know it's there anymore.
When my grandchildren were born, I wasn't living close enough to ever do any babysitting, but I do enjoy your stories! I really do miss being close enough to visit and see family regularly.

Good afternoon!
Just got DGD down for her nap. She was having WAY too much fun to want to sleep, but was obviously exhausted. So we get a few minutes of quiet....then Dh and I hope to take her to a small lake nearby for a walk.
Sue, well that is what I had to do with my mom- slowly make some stuff disappear over the course of time. Sometimes she noticed, sometimes she did not. And she still left a MOUNTAIN of papers for me to go thru. Glad Dh seems to be doing ok- and I am glad he listened while you ran out for some quick errands. Its a good idea that you plan to stay in tomorrow....if it is supposed to be that cold. How far from you do your grandchildren/children live from you?
Phyl-hope that you are able to figure out the colors for the block arranged just so. Yes its frustrating. Sometimes best to set it up- and walk away from it, coming back later on to see if you still like the arrangement.
CJ- when going through my mom’s papers- after she passed- well they were literally strewn about wherever- on top of the bed (she had a king sized bed, needing only half of it for herself), under the bed, in plastic shopping bags, stuffed in boxes or envelopes with no rhyme or reason. I literally found my parents marriage license in a pile of expired coupons, junk mail and old recipes that she had torn out. Same as her social security card.....I had to go through EVERY scrap of paper, and investigate- not knowing what I was looking at. Each day I brought home a large plastic garbage bag of papers and put something funny on TV....or a show I really enjoyed (Hallmark channel movies were PERFECT for that) and slowly sorted. I feel for you. Be ruthless, and know that you only have to keep stuff 7 years or younger. In some instances even that can be discarded. It stinks that this job has to be left to you. Think of how nice it will be to accomplish this and declutter your home!!! I will find the dress model # from Davids bridal and post it so you can see. It will be much easier than me describing Dd’s bridal gown.
Ruth- while DGS is in Taiwan, perhaps DDIL would like to journal- how about a journal cover (pick up an inexpensive and pretty journal from Walmart)?
BBL- that was one short nap from DGD G

Yes if she woke up already that sure was a short nap. She'll probably fall asleep again on the walk Great suggestion on the journal.I had bought her one several years ago but didn't make a cover for it and we're planning on going to Walmart this week so I'll see what's available. The older girls all wanted Journals and I would think that ddil would like one too. It's so calming to be able to put your thoughts into written word and the cover will be just a little personal touch. I'm also going to make the set of potholders/hotpads and may throw in some dishcloths. Yes they have a dishwasher but we still need clothes. There are a couple other things I have in mind. I've already sent a couple bath poofs but every now and then, even though they're machine washable they do need to be replaced.
I finished a hat this morning while watching tv with dh. He records a program called "Forged in Fire" which is a man's program but I love it. The contestants make knives and other bladed things. Now I have to finish up the Bible cover. Didn't want to work on that while watching tv because I need to think out a couple things on it.
It's raining here right now but you can see that it's snowing on the mountain so our rain will turn to snow soon.
Have a great day all. Will see you later.

Ok so for those adventurous enough to look Dd’s dress is on Davids bridal, style # WG3911. She is not wearing a belt or sash with it- and will be wearing a fingertip veil of sorts.... that is item #689.
Back to Ruth, I had what I thought was a nice idea for DDIL and then DGD woke up. Of course now my mind is scrambled eggs and i cannot remember it. What about a laptop cover, or a beaded crochetted necklace? (Saw one on pinterest that was pretty!!). I am sorry you are having issues with red heart...its not the first time they have been a problem for you. I do love their web site for the patterns they have- they are a great resource for neat things to make. Hope this gets sorted out quickly for you.
Take care Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - I can't think of any other crochet items to make. If you wanted to try a quilted item, I was watching this video for matching placemats and napkins the other day, and thought that would be a nice gift for people that used them on their tables: www.youtube.com/watch?v=MEaCQ0zLmgwShe has lots of other interesting quilting videos if you check out Jordan Fabrics. Ginny - I love the dress your daughter picked, the lace and back are beautiful. It will look pretty with the fingertip veil. Sue - Sounds like your father had a tough time after that fall, but to live on his own the last two years of his life was really wonderful. I hope he was able to take care of himself pretty well. Phyl - Hope you can figure out the colors for your block. Meg - Hope things are going well with you and you are getting in some crafting. The furnace repair guy came today and of course, it couldn't be a quick repair He was here almost 5 hours! It was a pressure problem, but because my furnace doesn't have any override valves, he had get the pressure up to a certain point, then he had to replace the overflow tank (and had to go out and buy one because what I needed was larger than what they carry in their trucks), then we had to bleed all the radiators again, get the pressure back up again, check all the radiators again and finally he was done. Hopefully it will be working fine now. I'm so tired. I rarely ever get up at 6:30 A.M. anymore, and I've had several nights recently of not being able to get to sleep when I go to bed, so I've been sleeping late. I was also on my feet a lot today and going up and down stairs, so my legs and knees are tired. I'll stay home tomorrow and rest up. I did get through some more decluttering and I just put all the photos and old paper items together in some bags and put them aside. I've always read to save photos for last for decluttering and I can understand why. It's just so overwhelming. The tote I have to go through next has a bunch of knik-knacks that I've kept so I'll have to see if I can give them up, or maybe only select a few to keep. Take care everyone!

CJ, good to see you. I don't think that ddil uses placemats and since there are 10 of them in the family I dont think I'd want to make that many anyway but I'm going to check that site you posted because sometime I might want to make some if or when some of their children get married and need placemats and napkins. Thanks for posting it. I may even want to make some for myself even though we don't even use the table except when company is here.
Wow, that did take him a long time! I hope it's all working properly now. I hope you can get a good rest after having to get up so early and do so much walking. As for photos, I've been thinking lately that I should just get rid of some of my gazillion photos. Dh and I were really picture takers and did a lot of it. I've already gotten rid of a bunch of pictures that were just landscapes and when I had a scanner that worked I scanned a bunch of family photos. Most of mine aren't even in albums just in boxes and bins. I do have an album with pictures of my ds' oldest. It has space for almost 400 photos and all are filled and some between the pages and they are just from his birth to 13 months old! I probably have the same number of photos of my dd's oldes too and not too many less of her other children. I also have many very old pictures my grandmother gave me years and years ago. I did throw away some that weren't labelled and I had no idea who the people in them were.I scanned all of those I kept and have them on a flash drive. I never look at the pictures. I've been thinking of sorting them once again to make bundles of them for each of the grandchildren but unfortunately most are groups of them so I haven't decided who in the group gets each. And then of course I have billions of pics of my own children...also that I neverlook at and again most are of both of them so which one do I give them to...well guess I'll just divide them. I don't like dwelling on years past. Probably sounds strange to most people. I have to say thought aht when my ds was here last with is oldest daughter she did have a good time looking at pictures.
knicknacks I've pretty much disposed of all the ones that I bought on impulse that have no emotional attachment. Now I have one more that I have to keep as my oldest grandaughter gave it to me for Christmas. I love that she thought of me but I really don't want anymore things like that now that I'm at the age where I want to rid myself of a lot of "stuff".

Well I take that back about the placemats. 10 probably wouldn't be a huge deal. She makes it look so easy. Of course I'm a little challenged when it comes to sewing straight lines but I can improve on that I'm sure. This video was fantastic!!! And you don't need much fabric to make them either. I can see myself making some of these as gifts. I may have to make some for my sister. She lives alone but hey, even people that live alone like to have a nice table. Maybe I'll make some of these for next Christmas. ...well just added more to my to do list
