Me too, I am trying to download stuff- knickknacks to declutter our house.
CJ- thanks for posting the videos.....pretty similar technique to how I made the placemats a year ago.
Finished sewing all the squares last night. Now have to cut them apart and iron them. Then work on layout Ginny

Well it's snowing a lot today so i'm sure we won't be going out this week.I have only the carry straps to put on the Bible cover (which I forgot to do on the last one) so I may procrastinate for another day or at least till later in the day in doing that. It won't take long at all. and I decided to leave it plain since it's made with a pretty variegated yarn and a nice stitch.
Yes I love that video and have bookmarked it so that I can find it when I get to making some.
I started a crochet cable stitch earwarmer last night and will work on that today. I love making cables because it looks so complicated but really isn't and it's fun.
I also decided on another gift for ddil, bookmarks for her Bible.I need to get started on hers and the next dgd's gifts very soon but first I want to try a star stitch earwarmer and both of these might end up being gifts for these birthdays also as they both have long hair and could use them as headbands too.

Bookmarks are a lovely gift.....and you can easily make them in a color that is her favorite! Great idea.
Got my walk in and picked up what I hope is enough pinecones for the pine cone wreath Dh wants me to make.
Have a good night all Ginny

Ginny come over here. We have a while yard full of cones from out spruce there. In the spring I have to rake them all up. That's another thing I've been going to do for years is pine cone crafts. (ok spruce cones)
Found out my oldest grandaughter is pregnant. I don't know when she's due yet and of course too early to know if boy or girl but she has one girl who is 18 months old so more to add to my to do list. With all the grands and greats I have now we still have no birthdays in Jan, May, June or Dec and this one must be due in Oct or Nov so still won't be in the months that need to be filled in.
I finished the cable ear warmer and have maybe a third of the star stitch one done and will finish it tonight. I'm taking a little break from required things right now and made 2 1/2 hats and these ear warmers..

The high was zero today. The house is warm, but the temperature has felt uneven during the day.
I had to do some grocery shopping today. The snow man cleared the driveway. And I fixed a low key birthday dinner for hb. That's the extent of my day.
I will probably go to quilting tomorrow morning. It's not very far away or I would probably pass, but hb's caregiver will be here. Unfortunately I have an appointment with the dental hygienist in the afternoon way at the other end of town. No caregiver for the afternoon.
Still watching and observing hb. Nothing unusual or different.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - Congratulations on the upcoming new great-grandchild. Our family has a lot of birthdays/anniversaries in the same month and then many months with nothing. We have one month that I call the "death month" - several of my immediate family members have died in that month. I'm always relieved when it's over and we haven't had a death. I went out to do my grocery shopping today. Since I'm working on being back on track with my eating, it wasn't much fun. I miss buying all my junky, high calorie foods The weather here is still mild, in the 50s and low 60s tomorrow morning, but they say a front will come through tomorrow and drop the temps into the 30s by evening. Of course, it's nothing like the cold some of you are getting! Take care everyone!

This morning I went on o my quilting group in spite of the temperature. It as -12 degrees. Unfortunately I have to go out again to the dentist on the far side of town. The temperature has gone up to +single digits, and the roads are fairly good.
Maybe more later ...

thank you all so much for the congrats on the new great grandchild. My dgd who is having this baby is a good mother and loves children. She wants to have a lot of them.
CJ, yes it's hard to have to cut the things we love out of our eating. Are you able to eat just a little of something everyday? It used to be that once I started eating something like cookies, etc, I couldn't stop until I had at least half the package eaten. I did have a friend who lost a lot of weightby just following a normal diet with portion control and one Big Hunk candy bar every day. I lost mine by still eating candies, chips etc but I cut out healthy things to make up for the calories. That is NOT a good way to do it. I don't think we have any "death months" in our family. At least I can't remember of there being a lot in a certain month.
Yes all day yesterday was below zero. It's slightly wamer today but it looks like a bit of snow on the ground. They say the forecast for tomorrow is "blowing snow"
I've been crocheting today and finished the star stitch earwarmer. Now I think I need to get to the hotpads to start ddil's gifts and a hat for dgd. This changing from one thing to another is working well without me getting tired of working on the same thing and making it feel like a chore.
Be careful when you're out Sue.
Speaking of deaths, I found out that an old friend from the old WW board has suffered a death in her family. Several years ago her youngest of 7 children died and she really hasn't adjusted to that death yet and now one of her daughters has died. Sue and Phyl know her too and I know we all feel so bad for her. I'm praying for her.

It has been a busy week. I try to go and see Janet every day. I didn't go last Sat as I did my big grocery shopping. When I got home there were messages that she had a grand mall seizure and they had taken her to the hospital. she wasn't there very long and was taken back to rehab. Janet has had seizures since she was 3 days old and does not usually go to the hospital. I haven't seen her have a seizure in years but she does have one every few months. The people at rehab are all very nice and she gets a lot of attention. No matter where Janet goes she becomes a favorite though she can be a handful.
I have been working on the afghan I am making for her. It took awhile to get it going and I had to rip it out a few times. I just seem to get tired easily so I need to slow sown. Weather here has been quite good though there has been rain and a blizzard up in the Sierras. Allergy season has started and I am sneezing and coughing.
cj, I am glad your furnace is now repaired. sounds like a big job. I am still waiting to get a new fence and we are on a waiting list and it will probably be about the end of March. That storm a few weeks ago blew down a lot of fences. I hope you sleep well tonight and that you don't have to get up too early in the morning.
Ginny, I will check out the dress when I have time. When is the wedding? I am trying to keep up with whatever everyone is doing.
Ruth, I see you have lots of projects as usual to keep you out of trouble.
Sue, I am glad you can get out to do errands.
phyl, hope all is well with you.
Now I am off to put my pjs on and read for awhile. Have a good night and stay warm.

Good morning!
Meg, will continue to pray for Janet.....so very sorry to learn that she had a seizure....sounds like her residential facility is taking great care of her, which must be such a relief for you. I am sure that with the extra running around to visit her it is tiring. Be sure to take care of yourself too.
Ruth- glad you found a way to keep yourself interested in your crochetting- by switching projects. I am sure that hotpad will come out beautifully. What colors does DDIL like? Stay warm and safe in the severe cold.
Sue, you too!!! Hope you can stay warm and cozy in this frigid weather. How is Dh’s head injury doing?
CJ- yes we have had milder temps here also. Thankfully my family does not seem to have a month like that... I hope you are able to find some nice replacement foods to get excited about to help you get back on track with program.
Worked this am....gotta look for some information for our taxes for Dh. BBL Ginny

Good afternoon everyone. I had a late start today because we were up at 4am thawing pipes. It was actually 15 degrees but with the blasting winds they froze anyway. Thankfully they opened up with no breaks or leaking. We're trying to think ahead to what we're going to do when we can no longer take care of maintenance issues like this.Unfortunately we haven't come to an agreement of what that plan is yet.I think dh is thinking more and more about moving closer to ds but he loves it here and doesn't like the idea of moving at all. I don't care where we move. Nearer to son would be great but here in an apartment would be great too. I don't know what we were thinking when we decided years ago that having a house to live in in our old age would be a good idea.
Meg, it's good to see you. I'm sure that the rehab facility has to take no chances and take people to the hospital when they have a seizure. Will Janet have to stay there much longer? Is she able to walk again yet?
Ginny, I need to get busy and do my taxes also and soon so that I can spend some time before my sister gets here doing some cleaning and shopping for foods that I want to use for meals while she is here. She isn't coming till May11th though so after the tax deadline I'll have three more weeks.
CJ, how about some interesting fruit to add to your diet. One fruit I love is lychee. Unfortunately there was only ever one store here that sold them now and then and they haven't had any in a couple years at least.
Phyl, how's everything going with you?
Sue hows everything in Big Sky country?

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ruth - Hope you won't get any breaks or leaks in your pipes. I always worry about that and my temps never get as low as yours probably do. It's a really tough decision when we have to leave a place we enjoy living in because it's too much for us to take care of, I'm right there with you and DH in this situation. Hope you can figure out a solution. Ginny - Hope the roads were clear for driving the bus. I got my taxes done already and mailed them this week. Hope the changes didn't affect you and your DH much. I ended up getting back $1200 less than last year. Meg - I'm sorry to hear about Janet's seizure, but it does sound like she has people that take good care of her. That doesn't stop you from worrying though, I'm sure. Hope you can get her afghan done - what color yarn are you using? Sue - I'm glad you were able to make it to your quilting group. Hope you can stay warm, those temps are so low! Phyl - Hope you are getting in some crafting. I'm back to eating on my plan, where I try to incorporate the old Good Health Guidelines. At this point (getting back on track after months of overeating), I can't have any foods in my house that aren't on the plan - I know I will overeat them. Once I get control again, I can bring back some small portions of those foods into the house. Ruth - you mentioned me adding fruit. I'm doing good just to get in my 2 required fruit servings a day I've never been a fruit and vegetable person, and I really have to work hard to eat those every day. I would just eat meat, potato/bread, and sweet foods all day long if I could! I haven't been doing any crafting, still working on the decluttering. The latest storage tote I opened has about 20 small ceramic toothpick holders that have a state name or city name on them. I do not remember going through the phase where I collected those I called the organization I'm going to donate my goods to and asked if they accepted knick-knacks and they said they do, so I'll put most of them to give away. I may just keep a few that are for places that mean something to me. Hope you all have a great weekend!

This morning the temperature was +12 degrees when I took one of the dogs to the vet for shots. It almost was comfortable!
Ruth, you are right about aging and living in a house. At some point, downsizing is appropriate and wise. I know why I wanted a house, but I wasn't thinking. Retirement sounded exciting, an endless adventure. It was for a while. Nobody ever really explained the issues of aging, and I'm not sure I would have listened. My parents insisted on staying in their house, and I was the one who lived in Los Angeles and stopped by after work. I knew about their hospitalizations and health issues, their physical and mental declines. Key items in finding our retirement location were a hospital, an airport, and a university. So was a single level house hahaha!
Three years later, my husband was dead, and I was living in a split level house! I didn't want to leave the area. It felt like home and still does. My generation scattered; the next generation more so. I remarried. I don't know if I would move elsewhere, but I know my time in this house is limited. I have options, but I don't like some of them.
Is it your son who lives somewhere near me, Ruth?
I stopped by to check on work being done on the duplex after the vet. My late husband and I had talked about the duplex as a retirement possibility. Live in the back unit and have a caregiver in the front ... put a door between. The guy doing the work thought it was a good idea! Even today. The entire subfloor has to be removed because of pet stains and odor. It's horrendous. Suffocating due to cat pee. The amount of work is overwhelming, but I have two good people on the job. My past property management company was negligent, but I can't prove all of what I suspect without the help of some other owners and support staff. (Could still happen) I've owned the duplex 26 years and bought it before I retired. There have been too many people living there for eleven years. No pets lease, parents and two very young children. I didn't evict the tenants, but I did give them thirty days notice because it would have been impossible to take care of the leaky pipes and work needed on the kitchen subfloor with the unit occupied. The other problems weren't obvious, including the two extra adults. I asked when I started seeing too many cars. When I finally found out, they lied about people and cat. It was all over. I now have an excellent property manager who has a lot of integrity. But I had no idea about the extent of damage the cat caused, but the sub floor evidence is overwhelming.
I'm almost finished with my infinity scarf. I had hoped it would be wider, but I'm running out of yarn! Maybe I'll take it all out and start over!
Aside from all that, I feel like people are throwing situations at me, repairs are unending, and Life is in a turmoil. I like to stay calm, but there is a lot of extra stuff going on with people who are important in my life. I'm pretty good about compartmentalizing things, but right now there really is a lot of personal extra stuff. Divorces, deaths, depressing world and national news, cancer diagnoses. It's a bad time of year for lots of people.
