Sue it sounds as though you're carrying a heavy load. When we first moved here dh talked about buying rental property. I was completely against it and even more so when I saw the condition that tenants left rentals that belonged to some of my friends left the rental in. Too many headaches and any money earned from renting was eaten up by repairs.Of course the real estate market skyrocketed here so money could have been made selling those properties I guess. Still wasn't worth it to me.
No it's my grandson that lives near you, Sue..my dd's oldest .DGd lives in or near Billings. They lived in Laurel first then moved to Billings itself but I think they might be back in Laurel now because she is finishing an EMT course and has been hired by Laurel ambulance service. My son lives in Indiana.
CJ I never get money back. in fact we have to pay every year. We have no deductions really of any kind so standard deduction is the best we can do and we don't have money taken out
Sue congrats on getting the infinity scarf almost done. That's happened to all of us I think...finding out something is too wide or too narrow. That happened with my dgs' afgan but I left it that way. I did rip our the star stitch headband I worked on a couple days ago and did it over. It was just to tight a stitch so I went to a larger hook. Now i'm working on another star stitch headband that I saw the pattern for yesterday and liked better so will have two of those. In the first the stars were in the short rows, in this one they are around the head in the long rows.
Still haven't really finished the Bible cover...still just the handles to put on. I also still have only a small part of the hotpad done. I've been working on those hats and headbands. I hope tomorrow is warmer because I need to wrap dgd's gifts so that when we go out they will be ready to mail. Seems like I'm always saying that but again, this will be the last package till last of August or first part of Sept (which will be late but ok and a tradition with me)
Ginny, what are you up to today? Whatever it is I hope it's something you enjoy

Good evening, Ruth, I was in a bit of a rush earlier....and wondered if I misread about. Your pipes freezing. Wow- so very glad you were able to take care of the problem without damage to your home. Think we all understand the decisions you and dh face- how to handle your living arrangement and whether you sholuld stay there or not. Moving near Ds sounds like a good option,if that is somewhere you would not mind living. Of course anothe option is to stay in a senior living complex that affords independant living. Not many places have that. Would you consider staying where you are and hiring someone for your home maintenance?
Sue, indeed, it sounds as though you have much to be concerned about. Sometimes It helps to sort through things and isolate those things over which we have no power. Like politics and the news.
CJ- congrats on getting stocked up on program friendly foods in the house! You can do this, you got the weight off before and can get bck on program again. It is a challenge sometimies getting those fruits and veggies in- too bad its such a challenge resisting those yummy carbs.
I am tired. Worked this am. Got the hedge clipper out and trimmedl the holly bush (which you are supposed to do when its dormant). I also trimmed a bit of a hemlock near the driveway to make it easier getting out of the car. Got a little bit more done on the quilt. I got tired and stopped.
Have a great night Ginny

That's what I tell my children and my dh all the time...you have to let go of the things you have no power over. It's not easy but we all have enough to fill our lives without having these things weigh on us. Ginny, sounds like you had a very busy day as usual and you got a lot accomplished. You must be tired. I hope you have some relaxing things planned for the weekend.
CJ, I have no problem getting in my fruits. Veggies is another story completely. THere aren't many veggies I like. I like mostly the starchier veggies such as winter squash, sweet potatoes, peas and beets. I like salads but they are hard on my stomach so I have to eat them just rarely.I like almost all fruits

Saw a cute idea at quilting on Thursday. The hostess had some cakes of soap in knitted "cases." They were done in a color to match her bathroom decor. Could easily be done in crochet. I don't like the idea for a cake of soap to be shared with others, but as a decorative scented idea, they were very cute!

Good morning everyone. I hope this is a wonderful day for everyone Sue, My dil makes soap so I've made some crocheted soap sacks for her.I don't know if this is the same thing you're talking about or not. They're designed to hang in the tub/shower and be used right in the sack. I imagine she uses them for decor only and for the scent her soaps have. I can visualize one hanging in each of their bathrooms It's still cold today although I thought today was supposed to be warmer. 14 right now just before 11am. At least no wind and no frozen pipes in the night. I got the Bible cover all done and finished the star stitch headband I was working on and have to say it's a very nice pattern. I may have to make ddil and all the girls one of these and will probaby make matching "guy" ones for ds and the two little guys who are 1 and 4.Did I ever mention how much I love being retired See you all later. I have a bunch of things to do today including wrapping and packing as well as cooking and baking

The high today is -1. Next week should be better. Even tomorrow will be better at +11. Next week the highs will be in the 20s for a few days.
I have been looking at a tutorial for the care trick block on Missouri Quilt Company. That was one of the earlier blocks that I made for a sampler quilt way back when. Jen of MQC has really simplified things. I love watching her tutorials and learn lots of new things every time I see one.

Happy Saturday!
Sue, MSQ does sure make some difficult quilt blocks easy!! I also learn a lot from their tutorials. Do you plan on making this care trick block? What color scheme would you do?
Ruth, so are you making star stitch headbands for everyone? Congrats on getting the Bible cover done.
Cold weather and snow is due here on Tuesday. Looks like 5 to 8 inches of snow. Enough to close school.....so a day off from babysitting.
Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend Ginny

Right now I'm working on the hotpads but at some point I'll make the earwarmers.. Make the first hotpad doing somethingwrong because it was getting wider so I'm keeping that one for us and I've started a new one and am at the easy part...those first three rows are killer.
I hate snow but it's great that you're going to have a day off and the little ones get to stay home with mommy.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Sue - I'm sorry to hear about your house problems and this being a tough time. I've been going through the same things for a few months, so I understand how tough it is. In case you didn't find it yet, here's a link to the MSQC Card Trick block tutorial: www.youtube.com/watch?v=hQIrHNKpRGAI made a card trick block years ago, the old fashioned way, and I remember thinking I would never want to make that block again Ruth - Glad to hear you are finishing up some projects. Did you get your cooking and baking done? What are you making? Ginny - Hope your weather isn't too bad. Sounds like you're getting what we are getting tomorrow, but our weather sounds like it will mostly be rain. Hope you can do some crafting while you're on a babysitting break. Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting done and your weather is O.K. Meg - Hope you are doing well and that your DD is getting better. I'm enjoying Victoria this season and look forward to seeing it tonight. I really like the dresses they have been having her weather. Fashion from that time is fascinating. I'm so frustrated this weekend. The furnace worked well on Tues, Wed, and Thurs after the repairs, and I was checking it each day for water. I didn't check it on Friday. Then yesterday morning it cut off again before getting up to the heat I set it at, then I heard a noise from it. So I went to the basement to see what was going on and there was water all over the floor! I had to mop it all up with paper towels. I tried the furnace later on, and ran it for less time than I did in the morning, and didn't have any problems. Then this morning, it did the same thing as yesterday, even though I'd been checking for water the whole time it was running, at one point it just gushed all the water out. I'm guessing it's water that was in the expansion tank. So I'm not sure what is wrong now, or maybe the service technician did something wrong, who knows. I just hate to think about another 5 hour appointment! But I'll call to get one since I can't deal with mopping up all this water on the floor using paper towels. Fortunately it's a concrete/cement floor so nothing is damaged, but still I can't have the moisture in that place with the mold problems I have. I did get some more decluttering done and today I'm going to go through my clothes and get a bag of donations ready. I go through clothes every few years and clear some out, so it shouldn't take me long. Then I think I only have one more box to fill and I can call for a pick-up. I'm starting to see a little bit of progress so that's helping. I have to get out of this house, before it completely falls apart on me I'll be checking out the blogs on the Slow Sunday Stitching website later. Take care everyone!

Good evening!
Aw, CJ that is so very darned frustrating!! You have had a challenging year with your house, from the roof leak, to trouble getting that repaired, a problem with your mailbox getting hit, someone running over your front yard and now the furnace. Indeed, it stinks- and you thought you had the problem fixed. Well if it takes another 5 hours for the repair then so be it, as long as they fix the problem! Do you have a dehumidifier to help out in the interim? Happy to hear that you got some more decluttering done...and are getting a bag of donations ready, Look on the bright side, lets hope that you can find a nice place to move to- one that eliminates the headaches you are facing now. (And has a quilt shop near by!). Thanks for the reminder that VIctoria is on again tonight. I think I would forget to watch it if if were not for you! The card trick quilt is adorable!! Add that to the list of quilts I want to make..... Thanks for posting the link.
Ruth, well you have successfully made this potholder many times before- and I hope can get past the first 3 rows this time. From your avatar, it looks like you are tired of winter. Well, at least the days are getting longer, and even though we still have a lot of winter weather left, we are getting more daylight.
Went for a walk with Dh and then to the store. The weather guru’s say 4 to 7 inches now of snow, from tomorrow night all the way through Tuesday evening. Sounds like a snow day to me ! (And therefore no babysitting). Think I will attempt to finish cutting the strips so I can iron the blocks. Soon I have to figrue o ut the fabrics I want to use for my table runner class....which is in 3 weeks. I need time to buy fabric if I cannot find something fun to use in my stash.

CJ too bad we don't live close because we could sit and havea good cry together over home problems then have a nice cup of tea. It does sound like you're seeing a light at the end of the tunnel as they say. You're doing a great job on the decluttering and will have things ready when you find a place to move too. I've been looking at options here but so far dh has jjust brushed me off.
Ginny, sounds like you're going to have a ton of snow. I didn't know you were going to anohter class for table runners. You've made some really nice ones so I hope this class will also be as successful. It's good that you got to go shopping as it doesn't sound like the coming weather is going to be conducive to going out.
I'll be back later...have a good evening

My original card trick block was done the hard way, too CJ! I loved the way it looked, but there was no way I would do a lot of them! With Jen's tutorial, there is a good possibility that I will do something fun with batiks. Not a whole quilt for a bed ... probably something for a wall hanging. That might be 3' x 5'.
I went into the kitchen to start cleaning up things, and the water was nice and warm until it completely stopped running. I've checked the beaker for the well and the pump. The pressure tank is empty. I sent an email and left a phone message. The company opens at eight in the morning. I'll call then. Fortunately I have some gallon jugs filled with water.
This used to happen about once a year, and I knew how to put in fuses, but when the well malfunctioned, the place for the fuses seems to have vanished. The pressure tank was replaced at the time. hb thinks this happened because the garage is too cold. It's been much colder without a problem. I guess we'll find out tomorrow. I think I'm going to be canceling or postponing my 8:30 appointment. ****** Well, since I wrote the above, the owner of the drilling company called. He said that it's been cold so long that buried pipes that have never frozen are being affected. Anyway, At his suggestion, I put a heater in that corner near the pressure tank and the pipe that goes through the concrete foundation to the outside. . He said it might start working on its own. If not, this will be the first stop tomorrow at about 9:00 am. I'll call them early if it does start working on its own.
Odd, last night I ordered two additional oil filled heaters from Amazon. It's cheaper to use them as needed rather than the second heating system in the house.
There's another possibility which I don't want to think about yet. The county approved a new subdivision just north of us. It taps into the same aquifer our subdivision draws from. Four properties between here and there have had their wells go dry. There is a solution, but it means drilling deeper.
I'll think positively until I know otherwise.

Well Sue, another problem for you to be concerned about. Isn't owning a home a fun thing. I'm glad I don't own any other developed properties. I hope your new problem is a simple fix.Hopefully the heater put in place will do the trick
