Ruth, well I just got confused reading how you figured out that pretty cable stitch. So glad you figured it all out, and I bet it looks gorgeous. Yes, a video would be just the thing to help lame brains like me figure it all out. And yes, you are quite something keeping all the grands and their birthdays straight- knowing what each likes and needs and then finding the perfect pattern to make lovely gifts for them! Wow. Ok, just pulled out the tax info and got it all straightened up for tomorrow. Yuck. Whatever. We are missing one form, which we already know we will have in 2 weeks- but have all the other info. So we will take it in tomorrow- so at least the process is almost done. Got a great story about fiskars. Dd#2 gave me a lovely curved handle rotary cutter for Christmas. It plainly says on the packaging that its great for righties and lefties. Well this lefty tried, really i did to make it work. No matter what I did the design obscures the view of the blade hitting the fabric- and I ended up nicking the ruler a lot. Tuesday, during the snow storm, I went online- got no help there. So I called the company. They were closed, but the fiskars agent was working from home, as they were facing a big snow storm also. I explained my situation and asked/begged for help. She promised me that the next day, when she was actually at work she would check out my model # rotary- and see what could be done. Got a really sweet email from her the following day indicating that she saw my problem and that the rotary could not be switched around to accomodate a lefty. And would I like a new rotary??? OF course, I said yes, and got the email today that it shipped. Great company, Fiskars.....thought I would mention that. And my Dd, the one who gave the rotary to me will get it for her use. She is a righty. Ginny

I got my hair cut this morning. Much, much better, even though the experience was a little frustrating. She must have double booked again. I asked her, and she said she hadn't, but ..... I was there for two hours, overlapped with another woman who was have coloring done. I'm going to have to make other arrangements. If this were the first time this has happened, ... but it's not. It was a little humorous because she was talking about a snafu at the Thai restaurant last night. They weren't prepared for the deluge of Valentine's Day dinner business they had.
I remember talking about this before when I went someplace else next door to a quilt shop. That hair cut was horrible. There's another place that has adequate parking for me that is fairly new. I think I'll try it.
No crafting today. Three cheers for Fiskars, Ginny! It's always good to hear about individuals and companies that are doing things right.

Sue, that indeed stinks about a haircut taking 2 hours and it should have been done in , what, 30 minutes? Yes, I think I would be frustrated too. Then there is the challenge of finding a hairstylist who cuts your hair how you want it. That is why I drive some distance .....I like the woman who cuts my hair and she listens to what I want. So, you need to find a hairstylist who has a shop near a quilt shop- or Joanns or a craft store. Is your Dh’s caregiver back to full health? G

Ginny, I didn't know you were a lefty. My mother was a lefty and so is my sister. I don't know of anyone else in the family that is left handed. amoung these 17 grands and great grands I haven't heard that any are. I'm so glad Fiskar's sent you a new rotary cutter. Some companies are just so good about making things right. Now I have a better opinion of that company. I used to buy only Fiskar but then I became unhappy with some of their scissors. Now I'll give them another chance. My rotary cutter is a Fiskar.
Sue, yes it just is bad business practice to make customers wait either on person or on the phone.I hope your hair at least turned out like you want it. I've always had problems having my hair turn out like I want it. I always had such a thick head of very fine hair that was not easy to work with. Now it's still fine but it's very thin. I don't have much hair left. AT least I don't have bald spots so I'm grateful for that. One of my aunt did have circular bald spots when she got older.
Ginny, that's why I have so many lists. I'd never be able to keep things straight if I didn't have my lists.I do know what no one picked red as a favorite color and that's the color of this cable hat so I'll probably just add it to the donation pile. Yes how to do her version of the cable is very hard to describe but it does turn out really nice. I may use that pattern again. I have about 3 more rows I think and it's done. Oh, by the way, I followed your advice and found a very nice journal for ddil when I was out yesterday.I don't know if I'll make a cover for it though because it's really pretty as is and I don't want to cover that up so I'll put one of the bookmarks I'm planning to make in it and put a nice pen with it.Thank you for the suggestion. And Sue, I am going to make her that eyeglass case you mentioned. She uses contacts but uses glasses in the evening after taking those out.
amazingly after it being nearly 50 yesterday it snowed in the night. It's back up to 33 now though and is all melting.
I'm going to do a little cleaning today and then you know what comes after that....yes indeed...crocheting again.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Ginny - that is some fantastic customer service that Fiskars gave you, thanks for telling us about that. I use the Olfa curved rotary cutter and I don't think I'd go back to a straight cutter again.
I spent the afternoon working on decluttering 2 bookcases I have upstairs. There were very few books in them, it just because a catch-all for things and also for knick-knacks. I had actually decluttered these last year, but left some things in them. This time I got pretty much everything out of them that I don't want to take with me. I try to ask myself that question when I pick something up - "Would I want to take this with me if I was moving?".
I think I must be a just a step below being a hoarder I threw away a bunch of ink pens that no longer work and I had over 50 old credit cards that I had to cut up! I will never let them build up like that again.
My crafting for now has just been checking out blogs and watching tutorials. Hopefully I'll get the majority of my decluttering done in a few months and I can spend some time on my quilting.
After our temps in the 60s yesterday, it was only around 40 today - and we might get some snow mid-week. I'll have to get out before that so I can run errands and then stay home during and after the now.
Take care everyone!

hi crafters, today I was in hobby lobby. while I was looking at fabric, there was a lady at the cutting table getting help.she had two quilt tops with hr. one was white background with sun bonnet sue and the other squares were floral hearts. all hand embordied. the other was the fishing boy in counted cross stitched.
her handwork is beautiful. she Called them baby quilts but I think they
are just a little bigger.
she was going to put the backing on and tie them.
here is your chuckle for today.at h.l. I was looking around at spring/summer stuff.
well one of the display tables in the middle of the isle had pink items on it. so I looked at he pink flamingo umbrellas.
well lo and be hold part of them fell on the floor. so picked them up,put them back and they fell again.so put them back the best I could.
the umbrella has like 3 toe like feet for it to stand on the floor. the head is the handle.as don would say poor desgin. phyl

CJ, are you planning on moving somewhere else?
We're going to have another 2-3 days of arctic temperatires. The high yoday is 8 and the low -9. Yikes! I think the walls are closing in.
I would like to go to some nearby hot springs for a few days of soaking and pampering. Arranging respite care is too expensive and complicated, but I should have three hours available next week. I'll settle for that!

My screen is acting so weird that I can hardly get anything done. It keeps either disappearing completely or taking me to a different site so we'll see how this goes
CJ thinking of what you would take with you if or when you move is a great way to decide what to keep and what to dispose of. I often think of what I would take if dh were no longer here and I would not be taking much of what I have. There is VERY little in the way of furniture that I would take and a huge amount of stuff I would hope to find a way of disposing of WEll I'm losing the battle with this laptop so I'll try again later
Have a good day everyone. I did respond to everyone and it's mostly all gone

Good afternoon and Happy Sunday!
Sue, I think 3 hours of respite care sounds wonderful for you!! Hope you can plan something to do that you enjoy and find restful and relaxing....for each of us that is something different. Sometimes I like to hang out at our library (which is a fairly new and lovely building.....) and check out magazines that I would like to look at but do not want to spend the cash subscribing to. Its sort of like going on a mini vacation to whereever your mind and that magazine wants to take you. Stay warm- and I hope that this cold spell passes quickly.
Ruth, have your computer woes ended??Did you figure out what the problem was??? Yes that must be very frustrating, spending a lot of time posting and then losing it- or being diverted to another web site. Grrrrrr........What are you working on today?
CJ- yes I agree with Ruth, thinking about what you do not want to move becomes an excellent criteria for what to keep and what to pitch. I remember boxes of things that never really got unpacked from our move from our apartment to our first home and then to here (relatively short period of time). At some point I did go through most of that stuff and got rid of it- promising myself I would never move that stuff again. And in all these years there is only one thing- a very dressy winter wrap that was my aunts, that I miss. Only a little bit too.
Meg - miss you and hope you are doing well. I can imagine you are busy making the trip to see Janet daily. Its very time consuming and also draining.
Phyl- how is your weekend going?
Finished the pine cone wreath, which is now hanging. Dh likes it better- it turned out well enough.....and looks ok. Think I will hang the other wreath in the spare bedroom, and I think it will look nice there. Got the mailer for the LQS BOM which I hope to do. If you like to see a picture of it, they have it posted on www,quiltersattic.com. You might have to scroll down a little bit to the picture “Silver Stars”. THere are 4 different color pallettes to choose from......I think am deciding between two... its pretty. I will be doing this with the pastors wife and another woman from my church. Have a great day! Ginny

I really like the BOM, Ginny. I think it would turn out beautifully with any of the color combinations. It's nice to have friends who are going to work on it with you, both for incentive and just because it's fun to hang out with friends.

hi, weekend is ok.we stayed home today. suzy snowflake has been coming down since about 4.30-5am. I do know it was not snowy at 4.15.
we stayed home today. figure any stores we would go into, we would have to be cleaned the car every time we came out.not worth it.
ok on the flamingo umbrella. the handle was the head. on the top of the umbrella when close, would sit on the floor. it looks like 3 toes. very light weight and flimsy.someone would need sun protection the pink top would not protect them.sun would shine through.
you could go to hobby lobby site and see if you can find it. it is kinda pretty.
I did get my snowflake figure out where I left off. should be able to work on it tuesday. phyl

well I'm testing and it's not going well. All of a sudden my words are highlighted and with the next keystroke they are gone. Then task windows pop up and keep me from typing. Well now I'v just done this whole sentence and it's behaved. Maybe it's straightened itself out.
What I'm working on today is some scrunchies after having weaved in some ends on some hats and the hotpads. I want to finish the cowl too but have to find where I stashed it the other day.The girls all have long hair now so scrunchies will be great for them to use.And there are so many patterns and videos for them.
Ginny, what is BOM? I'm going to go to that site and check it out
Sue, it will be great to have 3 hours in which you can relax and not worry about hubby.
Meg, I hope you're ok and Janet is improving
Phyl, I responed to your post earlier but that was when my laptop deleted it all. One of my grandaughters loves flamingoes so I should get her one of those umbrellas. I don't think I will though but it's a nice thought.

Hello Crafters Ginny - That BOM quilt is beautiful, what colorways were you thinking of using? I've done several BOM at LQS and it was fun and a nice way to make myself work on a block each month and then have a quilt top done at the end. I've had several people tell me that they still have unopened boxes from moves of almost 20 years ago! A family member who moved recently did the same thing, took a bunch of stuff that they probably should have gotten rid of. I'm hoping not to do that if I move. Sue - I hope you do get to go to the hot springs this week. It's really nice that you want to pamper yourself. I do hope to move someday because my house is about 80s years old and there are lots of things that need updating. The house and yard are just too big for me to maintain and the area is not that great anymore. So I don't want to use my money on this house, I'd rather put it towards a new one. I'd like to stay in my state, but unfortunately housing around the Metropolitan D.C. area is very expensive and over my budget, so I haven't figured out what I'm going to do yet. Phyl - Those quilts you saw at the store sound beautiful, the lady sounds really talented. That was sure an adventure with the umbrella! Ruth - Sorry you're having problems with your laptop, hope you can figure out what's going on. I'm glad to hear you are working on some projects. Picking out what furniture to take with me will be pretty easy, since I don't have a lot of high quality furniture in the house. I do have several china closets that belonged to my mother and father, and also 2 really nice wing chairs, so those I will definitely take. Meg - Hope you are and your DD are doing well. Victoria is on tonight, I'm guessing we're about halfway through this season. Hope the bad weather in your state hasn't affected you. In today's installment of "Adventures in Decluttering" , I found over 100 music cassette tapes and probably 5 or 6 Cassette Player/Recorders. I brought all the tapes to put beside my couch and I'm going to go through them in the evening when I'm finally sitting down. I hope I can weed a lot of them, since I also have over 100 CDs! The funny thing is I rarely every just put some music on to listen too - I need to change that and listen to some every day. I've been checking out the blogs at Slow Sunday Stitching, people are working on some interesting and beautiful projects: kathysquilts.blogspot.com/And check out this quilt block from Pat Sloan. I've always wanted to make a flower basket quilt, but looking at the pictures of the blocks (scroll down), there are some fabric combinations that really don't seem to work (to my mind anyway), since I can't make out the basket at all. My favorite of these is #28 Diana Brewer. I would love to do a quilt of baskets in these fabrics: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2019/02/pats-free-a-flower-bouquet-block-7.htmlTake care everyone!
