Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward crafting activity. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion. Ginny

The water is running! I'm sure I wouldn't have done well in the days when water had to be hauled! I'm equally sure I wouldn't be living in this frozen wonderland without the amenities of insulation, heating, etc !
The space heater did the job ... just like magic.
It's time for a long hot shower.

Sue I'm so glad the heater did the trick!! We often use heaters to prevent and also rectify problems that are cold related. You must be very relieved. We had the same thing here with water that is with wells. Our developement used one large well but then other developments were buit or at least used more water so our HOA finally had city water put in. We all still have septics but I do believe it won't be long before everyone (except for me) will decided they want sewers. I just had to have a new septic put in so want to get my money's worth. Neighbor did too.
Ginny, I've had that happen on my laptop. One key would get stuck. In my case it was usually because of a crumb getting in there. I would push the key hard and hold it to break the crumb or turn the laptop upside down to see if it would come out. That's probably what makes my laptop work funny sometimes...it's probably full of crumbs and dust.I should as my son if there's a way to open it to get all that out.
It's colder out today than it was yesterday but doesn't feel all that bad. It is a little windy but also not bad.
I did get the first hotpad done last night and will start the second one today and maybe start a hat I'm going to make for dgd.I wish I had the color of wool ease that she really likes but on the other hand I made dh some fingerless gloves with it and they got all pilly and nasty looking so the ohter yarn probably is a better choice. Now to decide which one to use of the ones I do have. She likes purples and I have three that I'm trying to decide about.
Well see you all later. Have a great day and a great week everyone

I'm clean and very happy to have water. I'm going to today's appointments tomorrow! I would really be happy if my house were so easily dealt with! I'm working at it slowly, but I'm just barely staying even which is so far from caught up or anywhere close to that. If it weren't for hb's caregiver helping out, I would be in trouble.
I have flying geese on my mind. While I was in the garage yesterday, I rediscovered some solid colored 30s fat quarters that a friend gave to me almost twenty years ago. I can envision a mixture of sunset/sunrise colors as a varied background for geese. Reminds me of a watercolor background with black construction paper silhouettes that I did with my very first class in 1960-61. This wouldn't work with the MQC's easy quilt tutorial, but it wouldn't be difficult.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm having problems with the "C" key on my keyboard. I have to hit it a few times sometimes for it to work. I never realized how many words have a "C" in them Sue - I'm glad your water is working. Those sunrise/sunset fabric colors sound nice for some flying geese blocks. Ruth - I saw this blog yesterday that had some interesting crochet items, thought you'd like to look at it: cathiescraftworks.blogspot.com/2019/02/ahead-of-my-time.htmlThe little gray dog is so cute. Her red, white and blue afghan is nice too. I also saw a really pretty Valentine's Day quilt that I thought you'd all enjoy seeing: smallquiltsanddollquilts.blogspot.com/2019/02/design-wall-monday-february-11-2019.htmlThe quilter said the large quilt has over 6000 small one inch squares! I like the little 14x15 inch heart quilt she did too. We had a bit of snow here last night, then some sleet and then rain. It's cold in the 30s, but fortunately I don't have to go out in the weather or drive in it. I worked more on my decluttering today and I'm seeing some progress. But it's been so difficult for me, because I'm now going through things that I had gone through before in the last 5-10 years and kept. Now I have to weed through those and really figure out what I want to keep. Today I found a new in-the-box CD player that I really do want to keep to listen to CDs some day. I know that there are other ways to do that, but it would just be nice to have a new player. While I was working I wished that I just had someone to be there to give me guidance/advice on what to keep and what to throw away/donate. If it was all just trash it would be easy. I don't mind the actual work, I just need some help with decisions

Good evening! CJ- sometimes having someone helping with the decisions is good- and they can also cause difficulty. Think the idea of a brand new CD player is a good thing to keep- not all music these days is digital - I still have lots of CD’s and you can still buy them in the store. The process you are going through is painstaking, but worth it. Thanks for posting the link for the Valentines Day quilts! Some are so pretty and even look antique.
Sue, congrats on fixing the water issue. That is common in really cold weather, so having a space heater to help thaw things is a good idea. (A month ago my friend borrowed a space heater for just that reason.). Think you ought to try the flying geese quilt. You have done one before....and it sounds like the colors will work beautifully.
Ruth, we knew that you would be able to get the hotpad figured out!! Hope you can figure out the yarn color to use....its a conundrum when making for someone else.
Ok, so the quirky key issue. I watched a youtube....and did as he said. I pried off the offending keys (the “i” and the “U:. Took a q tip and alcohol, cleaned out underneath the key and let it dry. Problem pretty much solved- the U key is still a bit tempermental but is better.
Hoping to get to bible study in a wee bit Ginny

Cj, thanks for the links. I love that small heart quilt wallhanging. Your weather sounds like a mess...snow then rain...yuck. I'm glad you don't have to go out in it.
Ginny, I'm glad you got your key problem straightened out. Is that on a laptop. I didn't know you could remove the keys. That's a great thing to know. From now on I'll know what to do.
Well I wanted to put my bookmarks on a flash drive. I couldn't imagine how to do that so dh suggested putting my download file on the flash drive as it contains pictures as well and the patterns that I downloaded so not all patterns are there only the downloadable ones. I also couldn't see how the flashdrive worked. I used one before to download pics from my old computer and that worked great but this one does it differently. So I did what you did, Ginny. Type in "how do it" and followed instructions. Dh said there may be no way to put bookmarks on there so I 'How too'd" that too and amazing....it worked. So now if this computer bites the dust, which this morning I thought it was doing, I have my pictures, downloads and bookmarks all set to go on another one. Of course when you get a new computer you can go to your task list and there is a thingy you click to transfer them but I wanted them just to be available on the flash drive only, for now.
Just noticed, Ginny, you watched a youtube. Guess I could have done that but I'm not really a youtube learner. I'd rather see instructions in writing.
I've been working on the second hotpad of the set and probably will have it done tonight.

Good morning!!
Ruth, well honestly, I listened to the youtube more than watched it. It was a short one too.....so I did not have to watch someones longwinded instructions. I am on a tablet, with a free standing keyboard. WIth a tablet, you can use the on screen keyboard, which I am ok with but MUCH prefer the remote keyboard (connected by bluetooth). There is a wealth of information online, no I do not believe all of it. So happy for you that you figured out how to put bookmarks in. I had no idea that was possible! So very nice that it is now portable for you, in the event that you do need a new computer. were you able to complete the second hotpad?
Well we have not had a single flake of snow....school is closed however. It sounds as though we are in for a mid day of freezing rain and snow....which does justify the schools being closed....I would not want to drive in that kind of weather.
Gotta go to the bank today. THey were taken over by another bank and are now charging a fee for our checking account. Grrrrrr......gotta see what can be done about that. Also have to drop off some donations at church that I forgot to take to church last night. Real senior moment there!!
Have a great day Ginny

HI, I forgot to tell you Jonah the crocheting prodigy was on the local news again last night.
they showed him crocheting and had to slow the video down so we could see how he dose it. jonah is fast and does not have to look at his work. has even designed some of his patterns. he can read a pattern once and do it.
his mom has become his agent. he is getting orders from everywhere. he has 3,000 orders for his work.yes he gets paid.
they showed a afghan color block he finished i none day. would take most of us weeks or months to do that.
jonah is in 6 grade doing 9th grade math.he was adopted. just think of the chance his adopted parents have given him for life. this kid will go far. phyl

Yes Ginny, I would add another table runner to my collection too if it meant that I could learn and/ or improves on another techniques. I think I'd rather just have snow than freezing rain. I'm glad your schools are close. Be careful out there as you take care of your errands
Phyl, so sorry about Judy. Yes reunions in Heaven will be great which is why it's so important that we try to insure that all our family, friends and acquaintences have all the information they need to make the decision to insure that they are going to be there and that we are too. I'm glad to hear you're coming along on your blocks. I think as we make things that many times we see areas in which we wish we had anned another color or did a different stitch or used another fabric or yarn. I'm sure what you made is beautiful so enjoy it and on the next one you can try what you think you should have done on this one.
I didn't get the second hotpad quite done last night. I got distracted by something else so I'll fiinish it today and start the third and smallest one of the set and start on dgd's hat. I do have the gifts I need to mail this week all wrapped and in a box ready to tape shut and take to the post office.WE'll probably go out Friday which will be the last of the warmer days we're having this week.

I found a recipe the other day for gluten free biscuits. None of my other gluten free recipes have ever turned out to be anything I've liked so I was skeptical about these. The recipe writer said they were tender and fluffy. I didn't believe it because she also said Pillsbury gluten free all purpose flour is the best for them and I've used it before to try their own bread recipe and the bread turned out to possibly be the worst thing I've ever made. Well I made the biscuits today and with some of the Pillsbury flour I still have from buying 3 bags online and they more than lived up to her description. They were absolutely amazing. They don't get very browned but the lightness and tenderness is just wonderful. I had one with my ddil's homemade orange marmalade. I made some sausage gravy which we will have on these biscuits later.
Haven'tdone any crafting except for looking for the pattern for the fingerless gloves I made for dgd that she loved so much. I never did find it but I think I have it written down in my crochet notebook.

Hello Crafters Ginny - I hope you can work something out with the new bank so you don't have checking fees. I would think most banks have some kind of plan for that these days, but they are always looking for a way to take our money! I'm glad to hear you are taking another class next month. I like to make table runners, and small projects, because at least they are quicker to finish. Ruth - I'm glad to hear your gluten free biscuits turned out so well. What a nice treat you and your DH can have now. I love biscuits with sausage gravy and also with jam/preserves/jelly. When I was off program those few months I had sausage gravy and biscuits several times Hope you can get out and mail your gifts this week. Phyl - I'm sorry to hear about your DGS's loss. I'm happy to hear you've finished another block, sounds like you are moving along. I made one of those card trick blocks the old fashioned way too. When I was a lot younger I always thought I would love to go cross country skiing. But now that I'm older I'd be worried about breaking something if I fell. I'm sure the snow is pretty though. Sue and Meg - Hope you are getting some crafting done. I do have a lot of CDs, and I also kept some of my LPs and cassette tapes. Years ago I bought one of those all-in-one players that has a record player/cassette player/CD player - it looks like an old fashioned radio/phonograph. It's still new in the box too But I'll take that with me if I ever leave here and then I can use it to listen to all my music. My poor sewing room is a mess. I had to move some of the things from the other room I'm clearing, into the sewing room (they are crafting items). The only thing I've kept in the other room is my fabric. Hopefully one day I can get in the sewing room and organize it again. Right now I wouldn't even want to do a project in there! I received an email from one of my local quilt shops that I really like and it said "XXX Quilt Shop Closing Forever" - my heart dropped, because I really like this shop. It's nothing fancy but the owner is just a downhome type person and I never feel intimidated in there like I do in the "fancier" shops. But then when I opened the email, it said "closing in this location forever" - they are moving down the road to a new shop. I have a feeling it's going to be a bit smaller, but who knows. I'm going to try to get by there in the next week or so before they close for a week to pack up and move. They have a really great selection of fabrics and I'd hate to miss out on some if they are downsizing. They didn't mention a sale, so maybe they are just taking everything with them. This is the store that I learned to use the longarm quilting machine at, and I rented some time on it there too. Hopefully that will still be available in the new place. It's been a rainy cold day here, but I'm thankful for no snow. Take care everyone!

The high today was 38! That feels like a heat wave after -10!
I had an appointment with the chiropractor and cranial sacral therapist today. My back is acting up. I'm supposed to ice two different locations to reduce some inflammation. But my feet are already cold to begin with.
After that I stopped by the duplex. The tenants in the back unit wanted permission to paint lavender, red, dark, gray and coral. I said no but showed them some fabric I had taken photos of which they really liked. She has severe asthma and has to keep the place really humid. They both liked the fabric photos I showed them, and he can sew. He had a sewing machine in the living room! They are willing to paint a very light gray, and he has done painting before. So it may turn out to be a win-win situation.
Work on front unit is progressing. I'm guessing it will take a full month.
I postponed the appointment for my taxes for another three weeks.
hb's caregiver may have the flu. I sent him home and told him not to show up Thursday if he is sick. His girlfriend is sick, so he's probably highly contagious today. We both had flu shots, but so did his girlfriend.
I'm sorry to hear about your friend and co-grandmother, Phyl.
Everyone is doing a better job of stitching something than I am, but it sounds like you're also organizing, cleaning, grandchild bonding and other worthwhile activities as well. I've been doing a lot of reading. It's too bad we can't take a break together and enjoy a hot bowl of home made soup! What's your favorite kind of soup? My mother was a superb soup maker. She thought canned soup was a disgrace!
I'll even offer my yard for that snowshoeing or x/c skiing. The weather report keeps changing. Just now it said four days of snow, but that doesn't mean it will be a lot. Seeing some green in the yard is a few months away.
