WEll Ginny, I know you do a lot of research and thinking about things before you jump in and buy so if, in your judegment, this machine is not for you then I'm sure you're correct.
My sewing machine is a Janome. It's right for me and even more than I need because I don't sew much and when I do sew it's just something simple.
It's still cold here but at least the sun is out today so I can sit in my window but I need to do a little cooking. At least the sun will warm the kitchen some too and I'll have the oven on. Ginny, in answer to your question to Sue, well Montana weather is pretty much the same as ours just south of Montana so spring won't be there nor here until maybe even the very end of May. Remember last year when we had that snow storm on May21st?
Well I'll bbl

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I think everyone made good comments/points about the sewing machine and it sounds like you've made a good decision for you Ruth - I meant to tell you I saw the Gluten Free recipes on that website, hope you might find some you'd like to try. Phyl - Sounds like you are getting a lot of projects together for your retreat. Hope the hip appointment next week helps. Sue - How is the weather there? Are you working on any crafts? Meg and Betty - Hope you are getting some crafting in. I did a lot more decluttering today and I'm starting to see progress. A lot of what I'm throwing out has been hidden in drawers and closets so it does get discouraging to not be able to visibly see the changes. I just have to pull out a drawer or open the closet to see them I've gotten through most of my father's clothes, I should finish up tomorrow. I have one large bag to donate but most of the clothes were pretty worn and old so I wouldn't want to donate them. It is tough, and strange, to throw out someone's life. But while I was doing it I thought to myself that his life is over now and those things are no longer needed. This whole process has made me very aware that we just don't need a lot of things in our life and I'm glad to get rid of my junk so my family doesn't have to do it someday. I haven't gotten any crafting in, but I did pull out a few small things to work on when I was organizing my sewing room yesterday. I may have some time soon to work on them. It will feel good to get back to crafting. I had a granny square crochet project I'd been working on for many years. I'd take it with me when I was traveling and work on it. I cannot find that thing anywhere in this house! I can't figure out where it is or maybe I threw it out, but I can't believe I would have done that. Hopefully it will turn up somewhere Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

CJ, I always remember what someone on the old WW board said that she was told....the items that belonged to a person are not that person. Give them up. Oh and when you donate worn things I heard that many places sell those things to countries like China that recycle them. I don't know if that was ever true or if it was if they still do it. I'm glad you have someone that comes to pick up your donations. I guess the one place here does if their truck is running which it often is not because it's so old. Salvation Army only will pick up certain things and I don't know if GW picks up or not. I don't know what I'm going to do with my furniture if and when I move from here. If dh is with me he'll still want to keep it all but I don't want to and no one else would want it because it's all quite old. Guess I'd have to find someone with a truck to take it all to the dump.None is old enough to be considered an antique though either. Anyway you're doing a great job in organizing and decluttering! Sounds like your granny square went the way of some of my things that I never did find out what happened to them. Sometimes I find them years later like an afgan I was making for a friend that I never finished and she is deceased now. I couldln't find it for years and finally did and will probably never finish it. The sad thing is I can't even use the yarn to make anything else because the part that is done is made with fairly small granny squares so the short pieces of yarn would only be useful for stuffing things and since I have 10# of fiberfill I'm probably never going to need anymore stuffing material. I've hadly made a dent in it despite making stuffies for the grands.

We're supposed to have close to a foot of snow over a period of several days. We'll see. It might be 39 degrees on Wednesday. There could be some daffodils by May 1. I really do like cold weather better than hot weather, but zero is colder than absolutely necessary!
I'm still not feeling very good, but I'm not sure why. I had lunch with a friend, but I didn't feel like eating. Warmer tomorrow. All the way up to 25!

daffodils might be here by May1st in town but never out here. We have too much wind which keeps it colder here than just 10 miles away. We'll be lucky if we see a flower by June1st
I'm sorry you're still not feeling well Sue. I hope that will change soon.

Phyl, once again you gave great advice regarding the machine! Thanks. Hope all goes well with the doctor viisit to evaluate your hip.
CJ- youndecluttering crazy woman you! Congrats on getting so much done! st Pauyly textile is a group who accept donated clothes in all conditions. Yes they sell fabric to be recycled, but it goes to good use. Perhaps they have a donation she’d near you. Hope you find the granny Squarebafghan$
Ruth, a Janome is a very good machine. Sounds as if you and sue have some nasty weather coming.
She, hope you are feeling better
I am hoping I can get some machine time in tomorrow.
Have a good night

Ginny, good to see you. It's always great to see everyone. I hope Betty comes back and I wish Meg would stop in. I hope she's ok.
The only thing I got done in crafting is an eye or sunglasses case and I made a nice flower to go on it. Now I just need to sew on the flower and button. I even have the ends woven in. Ginny, that was a great suggestion to just look at patterns and the things others have made once a week. I get to facebook to see if family has posted anything and end up reading all the posts from people on the crochet groups and of course, I have to comment on them. Most people make such beautiful things. so now the rest of the evening. It's 9pm here now, I'm going to work on a little trinket box for ddil and that may be all I need to make for her. I still might make a couple bookmarks depending on time before needing to mail the package.
Have a good night's sleep everyone. See you all tomorrow. I can't believe it's another weekend already. I never did like weekends.Well I guess when I was a kid I liked them because no school.

Hello Crafters Ruth - I am fortunate to have several agencies in my area who will pick up donated stuff. I get phone calls from them all the time looking for a pickup. I'm glad I did decide to pack up some things. My first plan had been to order a dumpster and just put everything in it! But many of the things I'm donating are in good condition, so hopefully someone will get some use out of them. Ginny - Hope you were able to get some machine time in today. Phyl - Hope your weather isn't too bad, are you getting the strong winds they've been talking about? I did some more work on my father's clothes today and finished going through all of them. That took me a lot longer than I thought it would, he sure had a lot of clothes! It has made me aware that I want to keep the amount of clothes I have to a reasonable amount and I feel like what I have right now is good. Now that his closet is cleared out, I'm able to store some of my quilting supplies in there - the batting and pillow forms. It's really nice to be able to store them away so I don't see them stacked up in my sewing room. I'm hoping to do some more rearranging in the sewing room now. The weather here today was rainy and cold in the 30s. I'm glad we didn't get any snow though. Tomorrow is supposed to be windy and in the 60s! One of my local PBS stations has been replaying a season of the Great British Baking Show and the finale is tonight, so I'll look forward to watching that. Take care everyone!

phyl, I don't drive at night anymore either and I'm not even close to 90 yet. The flannel baby quilt with a cross sounds really nice. On one of the crochet groups that are on my facebook list there was a afgan with a cross that was crocheted. I am seriously going to make that. I'll start it and work on it between other projects. I know my ds and ddil will love it. It does sound as though you have some good plans on what to take to the retreat. I'd probably be doing more blabbing than crafting if I were at a get together like that.
CJ, yes please donate all you can. It almosts makes me physically ill when I hear of people throwing away perfectly good clothing when there are so many that could and would love to use them. I know it feels great to have more storage space for the things you can use and I know personally h ow exciting it can be to reorganize your craft or sewing room. I have more to do in mine. I have less space on the shelves than I though I would but it will work better once I do get the shelves more organized.
Today so far no crafting. I've been cooking a lot today and we'll have a bit of food for the next few days.I never did get to it yesterday because the weather was not what I thought and was again overcast, very cold and snowy. Today the snow is gone from the street and my driveway and it's a little warmer but windy. Next week is supposed to be warmer but, of course, windier.
Ddil sent me picture of my dgd opening the presents I sent. I was surprised that they hadn't received the box yet but it came today. One was a picture of her with the purse strap on her shoulder and I was happy to see that I made the strap a perfect length. I put a notebook in it and the notebook had a button on the front that you pushed and a light comes on so dgd had her mother send a picture of her holding the notebook with that light turned on.
Well gotta go up and check the food in the oven. Chicken should be done roasting by now. Talk to you all later

Good evening!!
Phyl- yes I hope that winters last hurrah is this weekend for you and that you made it to mass and home ok. Its tiresome, long winters....and most certainly are a drain on the system fighting the cold weather and icy/snowy conditions. I do not blame Joyce for not coming over......at her age, I am sure I will not be driving. Its impressive that she is! Think that the baby quilt with a cross in the middle would be stunning- but it its too much work then I am sure you will figure out something else.
CJ- I am so very happy for you- getting all the way through your Dad’s clothing and now having the room for your quilting fabrics! Bet the place looks great- and remember, those same agencies will also take clothes for rags, so the clothes are not wasted even if they are not wearable. With respect to your dad, its tough- fathers cannot leave a favorite necklace to a daughter....so what can be a remembrance left for a daughter is often something a bit different. I am really happy for you in that you have made more room in your home but also gone through some of your dads clothes. (I have no clothing from my Dad- do have some of his army medals, stuff like that). It must have been a struggle for you....but the work was worth it.
Ruth, the way I see it, getting a picture of your family enjoying the heartfelt items you made for them is crafting.... An afghan with a cross crochetted on it would be a perfect give for Ds and DDIL. were you able to get the pattern for that?
Lets see- got to the store this am, and then helped Dd write out her “save the date cards”. Got a little housework done also....really wish I had gotten some machine time in, but that was not to be. Regarding that machine, the man who lost his wife called me and told me there were 3 machines. One was a small travel machine, the other a babylock (opened but never used) and then the Elna that I might be interested in. He indicated that his wifes guild was going to look through her fabrics etc.....I told him to let them look at her machines too and call me if he is still stuck with that Elna 702. (Then I would not feel guilty making a very low ball offer on it). Ends up it was purchased in Pennsylvania- which is a 40 min drive from us. Seriously, I think If i ever were to need a new machine I would be better off with a pfaff or husqvarna....because I have service and sales not too far from home....if the Elna fell on my lap for cheap I would consider it....but I figure someone from this womans guild will buy it from the estate.
Busy day tomorrow...I have nursery at church and then mid day we are going to get together with friends. Wish I had a day or two to myself.....but life is full and busy and that is a blessing. Hope Meg and Janet are ok!! Betty, hope you stop back in to see us Ginny

EVENING, WE DID MAKE IT TO CHURCH,EAT AND HOME.
WHEN WE CAME OUT OF CHURCH, ALONG SIDE OF THE CHURCH THAT SIDEWALK WAS SLIPPERY.SO WE MUST HAVE HAD A LITTLE SOMETHING WHILE IN CHURCH.
STOPPING TO EAT AND PICK UP BANANAS WE HAD NO PROBLEMS. OUR DRIVEWAY ON ONE SIDE IS SLIPPERY.SO FAR NOTHING AND NO WINDS.
i THINK WHAT HAPPENED WITH THE FLANNEL QUILT IS WHEN I LAID IT OUT I DID NOT SEE THE PART ABOUT THE CROSS BEING IN IT.THEN SOMETIMES WHEN AT THE MACHINE I CAN GET MY SQUARES TURNED AROUND. THINK WE ALL ARE GOOD AT THAT ONE.
I PROBABLY WILL BE DOING ALOT OF TALKING ALSO AT THE RETREAT. ONE GOOD THING ABOUT HEARING AIDS I DON'T ALWAYS HEAR WHAT'S GOING ON SO I JUST SEW.PHYL

Hi crafters. Loved reading the posts about who's the biggest blabbermouth. So funny.
I know how to knit and crochet but haven't done any for a while. Have a scarf I started about 3 years ago. A basket weave pattern that takes forever. Use to crochet a lot of dishcloths. Do some counted cross stitch and regular embroidery. And, of course the quilting which I try. Today I got out a Christmas table runner that needs to be quilted. Probably will work on that tomorrow. Blizzard warnings out for our area.
A lot of my time is spent looking for and making low sodium, low carb recipes for DH who is a type 2 diabetic and also has CHF. Besides checking his blood sugar and giving insulin 5 times a day I don't find a lot of time to sew.
We live in a suburb of St Paul. Sold our home about 2 years ago, moved into an apartment and last year moved from there into a duplex. 2 of our 3 kids live in the same town as us which is great.
Phyl, be careful going out, ice can be hidden under the snow.

Ginny, well you know how plans are,we make them and other things happen. Yes seeing those pictures did bring to mind other things I want to make for them. the picture also showed her holding the Bible cover with the Bible in it so it was the right size also. It does sound like a good plan that you have regarding the sewing machine. I do have the pattern for the afgan with the Cross. The cross is crochet in blocks then strips are made kind of like making a log cabin quilt. I'm not sure it's an actual pattern but I can tell from looking at it what needs to be done. now to find the yarns I want to use for it Betty, it is a real challenge trying to make those meals. My dh is a type 2 diabetic also but is not on insulin thankfully. He has COPD but no CHF so low sodium isn't needed. He also has gi issue and the doctors have told him what not to eat but he doesn't follow any of it. he's a little careful about sweets now but not as much as he should be. All we can do is try to make the foods they should eat and hope for the best. Our husbands aren't children and have to be allowed to make their own decisions. Of course that doesn't mean we won't be trying to influence them I still haven't got to any crafting except looking at those pictures of crafting I did...thanks Ginny for reminding me it's crafting. Now I think I might pick up my crochet hook and do a little bit before time for snoozing.

hb is also a type 2 diabetic on insulin once a day. I fix appropriate meals for him. He has lots of excuses for why he does or doesn't do things. The ice cream is because he had a molar extracted... in January. The box of Hershey bars I wasn't supposed to find ... that's so he can have just a little bite of something sweet. He is the pickiest eater I have ever known. All I can do his encourage better choices.
The birds get quality birdseed and are thriving. I have most of the neighborhood chickadees. We have black capped and mountain here. This morning the chickadees and the finches were competing for perches at the feeder. Very comical.
