Ruth, do you have an auto mechanic who you work with regularly? If so perhaps he knows of someone who really wants an older car and would be willing to give you a few dollars for it. We sold my MIL’s car that way.....and of course the mechanics know who really needs a car. WIth spring weather, I would think that selling it might be easier too- as people get out of their homes more. Agree that 4WD is a nice feature if you get a lot of crazy winter weather- ice and snow.
I heard something on the news this am that said the Washington DC area has some rough weather today. No details....just hope that CJ is ok and it does not interfere with her quilt show plans. G

No I wish I did have an auto mechanic to work with but I don't. I take my vehicles so far to the Ford dealer for service and will take my new car, as I did the other day, to that dealer's service dep't.
It's really warmed up here...up to 55 so far and the sun is now out although there are ominous looking clouds...that doesn't mean much here though.
I hope, too, that the weather doesn't interfere with CJ's trip to the quilt show
I had apples that needed to be used so I made an apple crisp. Other than that I haven't gotten much done so far today.

Hello Crafters
I had a good time at the quilt show today. There were probably about 100 or so quilts. I saw a few that I really liked. You all would be proud of me I only bought a few pieces of fabric and a few things at the quilt guild table I picked up two feed sacks and I'll add them to the rest I've been collecting for several years. I think that would be a good project to work on - using all of them.
I did find 10 table runners that someone had embroidered on each round end of the runner and then had crocheted an edge around all of them. It was only $10 for all 10. When I opened them at home I could see that 2 of them were fabric painted, but the rest were all embroiders and the crocheted edge is a variegated cotton yarn. I just hated to see so much working being sold for so little, but at least I will appreciate and enjoy them.
On the way home my SIL and I stopped at Wendy's to get some lunch. We decided to just go thru the drive thru and eat in the car. When I pulled over in the parking lot I thought to myself that I should leave the car running, but then decided to turn it off. When we finished eating, I tried to start the car and it was dead!!! It was so strange that I had the feeling I shouldn't turn it off. I called AAA and they were there about an hour and 15 minutes later and put in a new battery. The old battery was over 5 years old, so it was probably time for a new one. I was so glad this happened in a safe place and that I had my SIL with me. So the day turned out to be longer than I thought it would.
Hope you have all had a good day. Take care!

Gee CJ- God is surely watching over you.....having something like a dead battery happen at Wendy’s with company to keep you from going nuts! Could not have happened any better than that. Yes, 5 years is a great age for a battery. It would not have made it through next winter....so now you are set for another 4 to 5 years! A long day for you, yes, but sounds like a good one. I agree, the price of those table runners is insanely low. Enjoy them- I wonder will you use them as is or for part of another project? Yes, I am proud of you...you did not spend much and had a great day Ruth-bet that apple crisp made the house smell wonderful. Hurray for warmer weather.....it melts some snow too! We took Ds out for his birthday dinner- Dd#2 went with us and it was a nice time. Then we went in to Walmart for a few items....all in all a good afternoon out. No crafting for me today... Have a good night all Ginny

CJ, what a wonderful thing to buy all those table runners for only $10! The same thing happened to us yesterday at the grocery store but luckily we had the jump starter in the trunk so were able to get the car started. In our case I think it's the alternator plus it also may partly be the battery. Our battery isn't very old but I bought one for each vehicle and neither of them stays charged then after we charge the one for the old car it doesn't stay charged so that's why I think the alternator is also going bad
Ginny, happy birthday to your dear son.

Hello Crafters
Ginny - Glad to hear you had a nice time at dinner with your DS. Maybe you'll get in some crafting today. I saw someone selling a few pillowcases with stamped embroidery on them (a kit) at the guild table yesterday and thought of you.
Ruth - Sorry to hear about your car problems, I'm glad you were able to get it started. I've replaced alternators and starters on cars I've had - and lots of batteries too. Hope you can find out what it is and get it fixed.
I'm seriously thinking about leasing a car. I checked for how many miles I drove both of my cars over the last 2-3 years and it was only about 14,000 miles. I just think that it would be crazy for me to buy a new car (especially when I can't find one I really like) and have it sit in my driveway most of the time. I can lease a new car for 24 or 36 months for a lower monthly cost and then if I don't like it at the end of the lease I can get rid of it, or if I do like it I can buy it. I thought about getting an SUV, but I have never liked them. But this would be the chance to drive something different than the sedans I've been driving for all my years of driving. Or I could just get a really nice sedan. I don't know, I wish someone would make this decision for me
After looking through the table runners, there are only a few that I really like. The majority of them were fabric painted, not embroidery. And several of them had lots of stains on the white fabric (the embroidery and paint were at each end with white fabric in the middle). It was still a good price, but I may only keep a few of them that I like.
The flower basket block I mentioned the other day didn't work out. My dimensions were off and it frustrated me, so I just put it away. Fortunately I wasn't using the good fabric, just a test block. I put all the good fabric away too. I did pull out all my feedsack and I have a nice collection of them. The colors are all in the pinks, roses, blues, aqua and white/cream so I think they will look good together in a quilt. I think I'll work on this next since I've been collecting these for so many years.
It's sunny and mild here today, a pretty day. I've been working on the inventories of my parent's things. You would never think people could collect so many knick-knacky items I know I'm guilty of having too many of them myself.
Take care everyone!

Happy Sunday all!!
Ruth, wow- how ironic that you also had car troubles and pretty similar to CJ’s. Yes yours does sound like an alternator problem...but I am no car specialist. Just glad that you and Dh are safe and had jumper cables. Many no longer carry them or do not know how to use them.
CJ- just a thought....on some of those table runners can anything be cut out from a non soiled section and perhaps appliqued to a quilt? Gosh I hate to toss out fabric, especially someones creativity. But for the price you paid, its fine to keep only what you want/like/can use, and donate or throw out the rest. I think you would be a perfect candidate for a car lease. Your annual mileage is super low, and you do not travel with kids or dogs or even commuters who would mess up the car and ruin its value. Plus you get rid of it before its a maintenance nightmare. A new car every 2 to 3 years??? Sounds wonderful to me. Sorry the flower basket block did not work out. Love your idea of a feedsack quilt. The patterns on feed sacks are usually so charming- they would complement each other well. Got any idea what design you would use?
My mom had a ton of knick knacks.....I narrowed them down to ones that I liked (which would remind me of her) and those in good condition. I did take some to an antique shop and sold them to him. My husband was furious, as I did not get full price for them- but I figured the collection was worth more that way than staying at my house and taking a chance of breaking- rendering each item worthless. I kept only a few.....more as a reminder of the huge collection.
We had nice weather here also. Dh went out with Dd today- so I got to go for a nice walk.....called my DSIL in florida and chatted with her for a long while.....then did some straightening up.
Did a few minutes of work on the pillowcase....which I will return to work on shortly. Yikes, tomorrow is Monday. Ginny

Ginny - I'll think about the table runners before I do anything with them. There are 2 Christmas ones that I wish were embroidery but they are the fabric paint. If I'd seen that so many of them were fabric paint, I would have passed on the purchase. Teaches me I need to open the bags and check everything out first
I finished doing an inventory list of all the knick knacks and other collectible-type things today and after looking at them all individually I can see that very few of them are worth anything and there are only a few of them I'd really want to keep for myself. It's going to be interesting to see how my siblings feel about these things and what we ultimately decided to do with them.
Unfortunately I also have a lot of knick knacks that are my own, and I do really love most of them so I don't plan to get rid of them anytime soon
I've been looking at vehicles on the Internet - it's just a tough decision for me. I guess my next step is to go to the dealerships and look at them.
Hope you all have a good evening!

Yes it is ironic that we both had the same problem. In my case I bought two batteries from Menard's.They must have found out this brand of battery is no good because they quit selling them. They told me that if I bring it in they will exchange it for the brand they now sell. I don't know if they test your old one the way Walmart does or not but I'll find out. We may be going there tomorrow. While there I might buy some of my spearmint leaves although I recently found them at the dollar store and those are actually a couple cents cheaper and taste better because the ones MN sells have some spots in some of them where the spearmint is very strong...too strong.
Dh has to take his glasses back to wm vision center because they didn't grind the one lens correctly and it's not stable in the frame so we'll be right near Mn
Spent today doing some cooking and just for the last little while have been crocheting.I switched over to working on the triangle scarf I want to make for my dd for her birthday. It's interesting. It's called Dragon tail or dragon wing but it has indentations along the side... I guess to look like the wing or tail.I have a couple of other things I want to make for her and since her bday is in the middle of April I needed to start on them.Next will be the things I want to make for my sister for when she comes in May.
CJ, I'm sorry the basket didn't turn out. I've never seen a feedsack in colors or with patterns on it so don't know what they look like but if you've been collecting them I know they must be nice.
I can't believe that tomorrow is Monday again already. This week went fast.
