HI!!!! (Waves madly)
I was amazed when I checked for my last post and found it was LAST SUNDAY! I knew this week was busy, but couldn't quite believe it had been that long.
Highlights of the week:
Monday- Dropped off the raffle money at the office, then went with DH to our favorite plant store. He bought tomato plants and I bought celosia, verbena, impatiens, marigolds, geraniums and blue salvia. After lunch, I interviewed a prospective hospice volunteer, facilitated Alzheimers caregiver support group and went to yoga.
Tuesday- Went to hospice team meeting and then went "in the field" for an intake. The family was in the process of taking the patient to the ER, which would have required revoking hospice care. I got the director of nursing on the phone and she was able to calm them down, order a medication change and avert the crisis, but I wound up being in the home for nearly 2 hours. I was so tired Tuesday evening I skipped both yoga and RCIA and went to bed early.
Wednesday-I did hospice visits and office work, laundry (delayed from Monday), worked on the newly renovated bedroom and went to choir practice.
Thursday - Went to yoga at 8:15 and then to the office. Did a hospice intake at the assisted living facility. Went to Anna's 6th grade volleyball game (They lost, but she had a good serve and scored a couple points.) DH and I had beers & dinner at our favorite local restaurant. (BTW you can see the owners, Cody & Samantha Carroll, take on Bobbie Flay on the FoodNetwork at 9:00PM Thursday night) I chatted with an oncology nurse who, with the doctor, had to tell a 27 year old mom and her husband and children that she has about 2 weeks to live. I hope my words of comfort and support helped her even a little on such a very bad day.
Friday - Down .6 at WI. (I am down 5.2 since 2/24/19 when we got back from San Antonio!) Went to adoration for 8:00, then to Grandparents Day at the DGKs school. Abby gave me a tour of her classroom and we took a picture together. Anna got a Best of Show art award, as well as having a couple of other pieces of art on display. We also took a pic together, then one with all 3 of us. I checked them out and brought them home. DH had gone to Grandparents Day early, then went to pick up his new prosthetics for his shoes. He met us at home and we ordered takeout for lunch. I ate my leftovers from the night before--grilled shrimp and veggies. I made shrimp dip to take to Gridiron and saved half to bring to Book Tea. I met DD1 halfway to deliver Anna, since she had a vb game. We took Abby home on our way to BTR to meet friends for Gridiron.(tv & newspaper personalities performing skits poking fun at politicians) I ate shrimp dip, guacamole and a vegetable tort and skipped the fried chicken and sandwiches, since it was Friday, but indulged in an eclair and some mini-petit fours.
Saturday - I drove our RCIA team to a class an hour and a half from home. It was very foggy and I was glad we left at 7:00AM so we didn't have to rush. The class was very good and I did okay with lunch, eating mostly salad and white beans, with only a small portions of pastalaya. DH kept Abby as the 2 older DGKs had a track meet and DD1 helps coach. I got home mid-afternoon and played with Abby a bit. DH made spaghetti for dinner and then we dropped off Abby at home and went to see Amanda Shaw and the Cute Guys at the local art center.
www.youtube.com/watch?v=VQVdt3vGl_4 It was a great show, but the "Cute Guys" weren't very cute, lol. One of them looked like a 75 year old skid row guy, but he sure could play bass guitar.
Today was jam-packed, too. I was lector and Eucharistic minister at Mass at 8:00, had breakfast & talked with DD2 a bit, sorted more junk from the newly-renovated bedroom (My pile for the thrift store is growing!) and got most of my new bedding plants that I purchased on Monday into the ground. There was a large ant pile at the end of the flower bed, so I had to treat it with ant poison and leave several plants un-planted. I finished just in time to get cleaned up and head over to the Catholic Daughter Book Tea with my shrimp dip and crackers. The featured speaker was my friend and former co-worker, Kaylin Haynes, who wrote "Rising Above the Rubbish" a collection of meditations. We enjoyed her talk very much and she sold every single copy of her book that she had with her. We finished just in time for bible study. I was so tired, I dozed off a couple of times during the video. When I got home, I managed to get the rest of my bedding plants planted. I wanted to get it done because it is supposed to rain tomorrow. DH made hamburgers for dinner, with steamed cauliflower and cabbage slaw. We watched "Hidden Figures" and now I am contemplating jammies and a little reading before an early bedtime. I am REALLY tired from all the goings on this week. I am not used to being constantly active and am craving some quiet time. My hospice supervisor and her husband were at the concert last night, so I am hoping she will be back to work soon, at least part-time.
Sue- Your BBQ dinner sounded fantastic. Congrats on your loss. You are so good atsticking to program, I know you will succeed in getting below your goal weight. I can identify with your frustrations about donating. One of our local charities seems to always complain because the donations aren't sorted to their satisfaction or marked correctly or whatever.I hate dealing with them! I can also identify with working short-handed. DD3 told me there were numerous vacancies in Headstart when she began work that she has been trying to fill. She has had some really off-the-wall candidates that were totally unsuited to work with children, but has also had several good ones and recommended them for hire. Apparently, it is a slow, involved process?
Ann - Kudos to you and Carl for donating blood. I was religious about donating when I was working. Now I have to find a blood drive here and there that fit my schedule. It is so important. Sorry about the tooth! It is so aggravating to pay for a crown and then lose the tooth anyway. I like hummus, but don't make it often. Do you use a food processor, blender or what? I like LOTS of garlic in mine. I did get a peek at the HUGE moon and it was gorgeous!
Judy - After my dad died, DD1 recommended me to the hospice volunteer coordinator who then called and recruited me. I was familiar with their services as DD1 has worked there about 13 years and because my mom received hospice services.
Congrats on the big loss! Anytime I lose over 1 lbs. in a week, I am doing a happy dance. Clock Dance sounds good. I'll add it to the list. Good job on finding DGD a dress in the thrift shop. I made a similar find with a pretty smocked dress for Abby. I didn't realize the retail price was so high, until DD1 told me. I had paid $6.50 for it. Gotta love a bargain! I keep makeup a long time, too, except for mascara. I usually pitch that after 6 months because I am afraid of eye infections.
All the talk of corned beef interested me. That is something you don't often find in south Louisiana! I would love to have a recipe, if anyone wants to share. Goodnight!
