Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion.

Nice to be home this Monday morning. We have the day off from babysitting as DD’s MIL is paying us back for the days we babysat for her. Spring break is in a few short weeks- it will be nice having a week off when I do not have to do anything.
We were sort of in a book discussion yesterday. I had read the entire Jennifer Chiavrinin series, which I think I read to completion. I do remember getting frustrated with the author, the series because in one of the more recent books she elected to add some policital commentary. Really? If I wanted to read a political book, I would do so.
Okie dokie....bbl Good morning all

From my library search, looks like Jennifer Chiaverini has gone on to write historical novels....think the last one I read was Mrs Lincolns dressmaker. Seems she has published 3 books since then- one Being Mrs Grant and Madame Jule- a fictional work about a servant who worked for Julia Grant the wife of Ulysees Grant. I might try to get my hands on that....my local library has that book and it seems interesting. Gotta finish what I am reading now however. G

Good morning and happy new week everyone
Ginny, yes I dislike when authors feel as though they should use their fictional novels as a vehicle for spreading their political views. One of the authors that used to be one of my favorites always does that. I did see that your author started writing historical books instead of the quilting ones. One of the authors that I used to read...her cozy mysteries....decided to change to writing historical romance novels...I think CJ said she liked those. Now if only I could remember her name but I bet CJ has already read some.
Yes it's always great to have time off. Enjoy your free time. I hope none of your family decides they need to fill your time for you.Well unless it's something you want to do also.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well on this first day of a new month
Ginny - My tablerunner is bright pinks and light greens. This was a test pattern for me - a quilt as you go, so I just used fabrics I had. I didn't get to the binding yesterday, maybe this week. Enjoy your day off.
Ruth - I saw this cute bunny crochet project and wanted to link it here so you (and the others) could see it:
www.ilikecrochet.com/magazine/crochet-bag-patterns/sunny-bunny-bag-2/?ml=1&utm_source=ppl-newsletter&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=hookedoncrochet20190331
Sorry but I don't remember who that author was. I mostly read romance novels, with a few dramas thrown in - and most of the books I read are contemporary. Every once in a while the book will have some mystery in it and that's O.K, but otherwise I don't really care for mysteries. When I read threads where people talk about what they are reading it makes me realize how "out-of-step" I am with what most people are doing in their lives. It used to bother me a lot, but not as much anymore. I'm not going to change at this point in my life so I try to do what I enjoy instead of what is expected of me
I finished going through the coins yesterday and making a list, glad to be done with that. I've been putting off one other task - going through all my old VHS tapes and only keeping what I want. I'd like to get that done this week so I can put the ones I don't want out with the trash on Friday. Hope I can do it - I'm tired of looking at them all stacked up.
Hope you all have a wonderful day!

CJ, thank you SOOOO much for this like. I absolutely love it and it's going on my list right now and I hope to make one before Easter. I have 3 weeks. The author I was thinking of is Lori Copeland..the name suddenly came to me. NO I don't think we should change our interests because of others. I used to post on a " what are you reading" thread. The rest of the people there read much "deeper" novels than I do. I read strictly for relaxation. I used to feel bad about that too and that I wasn't intellectual enough. Then I realized I have the right to my interests and don't have to change for anyone but God so I quit posting there. I also used to post the books I read by Christian authors and one other woman did too. No one even commented. She hasn't posted there lately either. We need to do what's best for us and for our walk with God not for others

Good evening! Phyl, sounds like we havve some similar reading taste....yes Chuaverini wrote a lot of books! And it sure stinks that you loaned one out and never got it back.
Ruth, I totally feel the same way- you have to read what works for you and it might be very different than what someone else enjoys. Yes, I do read Christian authors- but mix it in with other authors also.
CJ- I will have to check out that bunny bag- which must be adorable if Ruth fell so in love with it. You find the neatest patterns. Bet you will be so relieved when all the sorting through stufff is over!!!!
Time to unload the dishwasher. Good night all G

Well it's a fairly nice day today and later we have the doctor app't just for getting lab results, etc. Waiting in the waiting room then in the exam room for the doctor to come in for some reason makes my anxiety terrible and in turn causes my medical issues to flare up, so I'm, of course, taking my crochet and hoping it will help. And it's not that I'm worried that I'm going to find out something awful. I know I'm not. It's not just the doctor's office...waiting anywhere is just not something I handle well. It's strange that crocheting as an anxiety reducer was just discussed on one of the crochet groups this morning.I can't wait to get back home and relax

Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm glad you liked the crochet bunny project, let us know how it goes. Hope your appointment goes well today and that you don't get any issues or anxiety. I suffer from anxiety in a lot of different situations too, so I understand what you go through. Phyl - I like the light reads too. I figure there is enough stress, crime and pain in real life, I don't need to read about it in fiction. There are a few series I've read that have some crime/mystery elements, but I'm invested in the whole series now so I do read those. Ginny - Hope you are getting some crafting done. I didn't get a thing done yesterday in the house, guess I was burned out from the weekend. I took the new car out today for a ride to do some shopping. I tried to park as far away from other cars as possible, I'll be glad when that "fear of damaging a new car" feeling wears off The car rides pretty well, it's not the smoothest car on the road that I've ever had. And it seemed to idle in a noisy way, that may go away the more I drive it - maybe. I'm sure it will be a good car and serve me well for several years. I did some research on computer laptops yesterday since I want to buy one. I want to see if I can get used to it or if I want to buy another desktop (which I prefer). I may end up buying both, but I'll start with the laptop. I'll need another desktop before January since Windows won't be supporting Windows 7 after that time (and that's what I have on my current desktop computer). All these new things to learn where me out. I just like things to be simple. Now I have a car that I have to figure out and I'll have to learn Windows 10, which I haven't heard that many great things about. But I have numerous word documents and excel spreadsheets that I have to use. Looks like we might get some rain later, but hopefully not all the heavy wind and rain that is coming up the coast. Hope the weather where you are is nice today. Take care everyone!

Good afternoon,
CJ- Windows 10 is not the best....but its not that miserable to use. Along the way Microsoft realized that they had a problem with it and included a fix that makes it look more like Windows 7. Don’t be afraid of it....its managable. My youngest Dd had the original Windows 10 and yes that was rather nightmarish....but a good amount of those issues have been resolved. Glad that the new car seems nice and it sounds like it will be a great vehicle for you. Plus that you have all the factory warrantees- which ought to save you a lot of headaches. I am hoping that you have many many headache free miles!! I hear ya too.....you do get an extra activity point for parking in the most remote space in the lot! Ha ha ha. And I did check out that bunny bag- which is adorable. Looks like the pattern is pretty easy too- perhaps I can handle making one! So sorry you did not get any crochet time or quilting time in....but you have been so busy and a day off is a good thing sometimes.
Ruth.....take a deep breath....and I hope that the nice repetitve motion of crochet keeps you sane and stress free. Hope that all the test results are where you expect them to be. I am praying that all goes well....and your anxiety issues are non existant. Waiting in a cold, sterile looking waiting room is bad enough. I am praying that by now you and Dh are heading back home and all is well....
SPeaking of directions and having to learn new stuff- we went out Sunday with our friends. Upon getting ready to head home, our husbands decided to take another way home- and were guessing where the new way home would bring us out. So my friends Dh took out his phone- started trying to navigate with that and had difficulty getting that to show what he wanted. My friend and I were in the back seat, I told Dh to start the car navigation system....which he said “how do I do that?”. Well neither Dh nor my friends Dh could figure that out (a simple button on the bottom of the display screen) and then when it started they could not figure out how to make the map move (by dragging your finger over the screen). Pretty funny.....I know Dh largely leaves operation of that kind of stuff to me while he drives. Sunday was a perfect example of that.
My crafting for the weekend was to hand wash two kitchen towels that my mom cross stitched years ago. Yes, they are dated....and definitely from the 60’s- but they are amish themed and I like them. I soaked them first in oxyclean....and not much happened then, then in laundry detergent for an hour. I thought the towels were a dark sand color....but it was all dirt and yellowing. Now they are a still age spotted, but an off white. Yes, I plan on having them out near my mom’s china closet. Indeed to someone with modern taste they would look awful, but my mom’s china closet reminds me of her and a happy childhood and these towels complete the look.
Enough from me. Hi to Sue (who is missing? Hope she is ok!).. Betty, Phyl and our dear Meg. If I forgot your name, please forgive me.... Ginny

CJ, you do find the best sites! I love the bunnies,,both the pillow and the peeps. Some of the women on the crochet groups croched some peeps and they said they sold well at the craft fairs this past weekend. It looks as though it wouldn't be very easy to make these ones in the fleece since I'm really out of practice using my sewing machine but it sure is a great project to keep for the future. Yes I still haven't got over the feeling of wantting to protect my new car. I really need to start using it instead of my old one so that I can get used to it.I used the old one again today. Soon all the noises you hear will become just part of driving your new car and you won't even notice.
Ginny, I can sure relate to what your dh and your friend's dh went thru. I have no clue what most of the things on my new car are and don't even know if I have a navigation system. I don' t think I do though. I do know the backup camera works and that the anti collision thingy works. I was backing the other day just to more the new car and I knew I was too close to some building material we have sitting there and sure enough..the car wouldn't move because it was too close so that's good...good that I know it works but I can think of some times when that might not be a good thing.
The doctor visit went well. Every year we have to do new paperwork so that kept me busy in the waiting room and then in the exam room I no sooner got out my crocheting and the doctor came in. Our lab results were good and the doctor kept telling us what a great job we do in taking care of ourselves...well we actually do a terrible job. Dh eats too much and the wrong things And his A1c was way down! I don't even take my statin drug and my cholesterol went down so she was happy. I'm really terrible at taking my thyroid med and my TSH was much better too. And this year she was back to her usual self and actually did a much more thorough exam on us both than she did last year.We don't have to go back for a year.
After that we shopped. We noticed that the store that is closing was still open so went in and even though the store was pretty empty of products we managed to buy $150 worth of things we can use and got it all for $75 as it's 50% off this week. Then we went to the other grocry store to finish since the other one didn't have any meat, produce, and very little dairy products left. Now I'm tired and plan to spend the rest of the evening relaxing and c crocheting.

Good afternoon, Actually tried to respond this am, but things got busy. So here I am now....
Ruth, so very glad that your visit with the doctor went well. Sometimes the body responds in a way that just does not make sense. Congrats on good blood work and a whole year until your next appointment!! That is a good feeling. Really nice to hear that your doctor had a better attiitiude. Indeed we all have bad days, but its sure nice when your health care professional does a thorough exam. Congrats on the great deals at the food store! Always nice to be able to stock up and at good prices also. Hope you got some good crochet time in last night.
Ok, I need to amend our opening statement. Spoke to my sister this am (my BIL has not been well but is improving now) and we let the conversation wander.....she does a LOT of neeclework and knitting. Some counted cross stitch too- and she is a perfectionist like our mom was. She always makes time for herself....and I mean that- she always makes time to do what she wants. She has been able to attend crafting retreats for years.....I have never been able to. (Which is fine by me. I figure its just not something the Lord wants me doing.). Anyway, we discussed how liberal our definition of crafting is, and she added that well, because we were discussing crafting that counted! I suppose she is right.... and I will correct our opening as needed.
Got to work on the pillowcase last night and am figuring out how I am getting to BOM on friday. Ginny
