since itrack implemented keto on their app yesterday, i decided to give it a go...slowly. they cal count as well as macros on that option...so i thought i would start by tracking a normal week of eating, to see how many carbs i am consuming, and then start going down from there. slowly removing one or two things at a time. like my coffee creamer lol. i realized i maxed out my 20 g of carbs with one cup. the first day i consumed close to 200 carbs. whoa!! i realize that if i go cold turkey, pun intended, i will not be successful on trying to restrict/lower carbs.
definitely an eye opener yesterday. i stayed within calories, but my carbs were through the roof, so maybe just maybe, even though i am within calories, all those carbs are keeping me from losing weight.

DotRen, I hear ya on certain frozen leftovers. Jeanie, I think there are some great keto coffee creamer replacements that might make you happy. I never used to put anything in my coffee, but there are all these bulletproof recipes that might satisfy you w/out the carbs. I'm still in the newbie/baby steps phase.
B: Coffee w/collagen powder and no MCT oil because I wanted to see if it added to an upset stomach recently. Turns out it might, but I was a lot hungrier by lunchtime than usual. L: Salad, nuts, chicken D: Leftover tenderloin, guac and asparagus.
A boring food day, but a good one. I have another challenging weekend ahead, with wine-loving family coming to town. But lately going completely off keto makes me feel pretty crappy, so I'm going to make it work this weekend.
I was reading about lemon water being good for inflammation and other issues. I was also reading about how good bone broth is, and some people have gone on a bone broth "fast". I'm not going to do that, but I was thinking of maybe trying some lemon in bone broth because I haven't loved bone broth on its own. Sometimes I would love to sip on a cup of tasty broth. I'm pretty much thinking out loud here, but I have some homemade bone broth and was thinking the lemon and maybe ginger would taste good. Has anyone come up with good seasonings/flavors for simple bone broth?

Has anyone come up with good seasonings/flavors for simple bone broth? I make chicken bone broth in the instant pot, you can use a slow cooker as well: in the IP or slow cooker: place a 3-4 pound whole or cut up chicken; Add 2 cups water and 1 teaspoon salt; cook on high pressure for 20 minutes, release pressure and remove the chicken. Let it cool enough to handle and then remove the meat and toss the bones back in the pot along with whatever veggies you like (I usually have some celery, carrot and onion bits in the freezer from using the produce), add 1-2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar and a little black pepper. Cover with water to the fill line and cook under high pressure for 1 hour. Cool, strain and store You can add herbs, seasonings, other veggies, whatever you like. I like to add turmeric to my individual cups, but I don't like it cooked into a whole batch. Once it's cooled, you can enrich it by adding collagen or unflavored gelatin to increase the protein

Thanks for the recipe/ideas, DotRen. I pulled a mason jar of previously made chicken bone broth from the freezer, added ginger, lemon juice and a scoop of turmeric bone broth powder to it, and it was good sipping!
In the recovery zone from a long weekend of in-laws. It wasn't a perfect keto time, but healthier than most weekends with them. One of the keto people I follow on Instagram used the oxygen mask analogy when around others... basically, take care of yourself first so you can take care of them. I kept thinking about that all weekend and am carrying it on into next week.

Have to share --- and I was amazed.
Yesterday we were to do home church across the property --- every 6 weeks it is DGS's turn. One of the twins came down with roseola, so it was cancelled. We were invited for lunch.
For breakfast I had cold chicken, jicama slices, black and green olives, tomatoes, roasted garlic and cheese cubes.
It was almost 1 p.m. when we finally sat down to eat. They offered chicken enchiladas, corn black bean avocado tomato salad and chips. Dessert was a cheesecake topped with strawberries, blackberries and blueberries.
I was not tempted by any of it. I had 2 cups of coffee.
YES, I WAS AMAZED!

bee, Refined carbs make me want to eat more carbs. Sugar, more sugar... alcohol... ice cream... more more more! I picked up a chicken today and am going to make bone broth in my instant pot and then make soup with it. Trying to go with the momentum of yesterday.

Good morning! B: coffee L: I have some "Trident pollock cuts" that I want to use, so I may just saute those in a little olive oil with some lemon and parsley and have steamed broccoli on the side D: pork chop and loaded mashed cauliflower I saw an interesting new product on the Trident site: TRIDENT SEAFOODS® PROTEIN NOODLESNot the "cleanest" low-carb noodles I've seen but not awful for 7g carbs per serving - if they ever come to my area, I might try them! ALASKA POLLOCK, EGG WHITES, WATER, TAPIOCA STARCH, CANE SUGAR, SEA SALT, POTATO STARCH, CITRIC ACID. I hadn't heard of Dr Berry and just watched the video you mentioned. I like him. I'll have to check out Dr Lustig. B: Coffee w/collagen. Got to figure out the fat because MCT oil in it sometimes gives me gastro-discomfort and my stomach is a little off this morning. L: Thai Chicken Bone Broth soup w/sauteed kale tossed in D: Not sure yet, but throwing out all the carbs and gelato that snuck into the cupboards for our family "weekend" that's been long over and giving me the siren call. Probably salmon, avocado and asparagus with lemon.
