I seem to remember something similar to a survey when Core/SFT was released here. You filled out a short survey and if if appeared that you didn’t like to track too much, liked or wanted to explore (mostly) unprocessed foods etc, you were more encouraged to follow SFT. If you wanted structure, then it was a Points plan.

WW has to know there are multiple tracking apps people use on their smartphones that mimic old WW plans. The surveys sound like they want to offer "something for everyone" to get paying members back. I get no emails anymore from WW except for my etools voucher confirmations.

I am just glad they are actually doing surveys now and giving a damn what people want. Thank you for the info!

Two years ago they were significantly slimmer having jumped on the Keto bandwagon. Last year they looked like the Stay Puft Marshmallow people…bloated back up, probably heavier than before they started. I have watched people lose weight dramatically on Atkins and balloon back up very quickly once they stopped the program. I worked with a guy who lost a tremendous amount of weight with Atkins in only a few months. He was quite a large guy to begin with---over six feet tall and well over 300 pounds. He rapidly lost more than 100 pounds and was looking and feeling great. As stunning and fast as his weight loss was his re-gain was even faster and more stunning. And he looked horrendous, way worse than before he started Atkins. Bloated, short of breath---not sure what else happened to him with the rapid re-gain but whatever it was, it was devastating. I will be happy if I can steadily lose one pound per week. I know there will be ups and downs and I know that's when my resolve falls apart and I hope I can retain the resolve to see this through, no matter how long it takes. We had someone who achieved Lifetime status last week at my WW meeting. It took her three years to lose 55 pounds. Now THAT is inspiring to me, much more than someone who goes on some extreme diet and loses a ton of weight really quickly. She just kept going, no matter what. There are no miracles, no quick fixes, no magic potions. Losing weight and keeping it off is a constant battle and anyone who is waving a gimmick in front of you and telling you that there is something new and improved and just what you have been waiting for all your life is selling snake oil. Calories in, calories out, and trying to keep everything balanced is all that I am hoping to do now.

I screenshot most of the questions on the survey I received. Without taking up space on the thread and just summarizing them, they were these:
- based on this program, how likely would you be to sign up for a WW membership if it were available at ap rice that you considered reasonable? - worskhops (meetings) OR WW digital and follow the WW program completely only or through the WW app, w/o attending meetings. - What is it about the program that makes you say you "might or might sign up for a WW membership" << that was my answer to previous question. - describe in own words what you think WW is offering w/this new program - if this new WW program was available, how likely are you to look for more info about it? - overall, how interested are you in what is being described? - to what extent does the WW offering address a real need that you have? - how do you rate this program on having an advantage over other products or solutions? - then I had to type what 3 different sentences or examples about this program would benefit my weight loss (the one mentioned in the survey) - then I had to explain how the examples I gave would benefit. - How do you rate this WW program in terms of how personalized it will be for you? - How does the fact it is personalized for you effect your interest in the program? - Rate how believable it is? (the new program the survey is on) - how much do you think the fact that the program is personalized in achieving your weight loss goal? - how much do you think the fact that the program is personalized will help you stay on the program? - then the highlighting thing again - in the initial description - of things that stood out that peaked my interest in the program, followed by doing the same for what didn't interest/deter me from wanting to join a program like that.
and that was pretty much it for this one lol

In the survey I took, I did mention that having the option to choose which WW plan to follow - that is available in 3rd party apps at a much cheaper price - would be a great way to personalize the program

jeanie, thanks for sharing the survey with us. It does sound like WW is trying to decide which way to go. WW could support any plan that members want to try. Meetings would involve little having to do with the current program, Freestyle or with any other program. But, meetings could still provide support from other members and a place to weigh-in and be accountable. As mentioned before, everyone seems to tweak all the programs to fit their choices. Many people don't do dairy and thus never checked off the box on the GHGs for 3 dairies a day. Admitting to the world that there are many ways to lose weight, WW might get people to sign up. How long they would stay is another question but most people would gladly pay something if they felt that they were being successful. I looked through the Weekly cards I've received this year and all of them could apply to any weight loss program: finding an activity buddy, being mindful, developing health habits, etc.. We don't seem to discuss the actual Freestyle program. Maybe because no one is actually following Freestyle; they are tracking what they eat and aim to get the wins so they can get a "free" gift! LOL! There still isn't anything I want to redeem my points for but I make sure to track my 3 meals every day and my activity and workshop. I keep hoping I'll see something to use my wins for besides donating them.

I am not sure if this is relevant but I have been seeing a trend on instagram about DNA diets. You send your DNA to a company that analyzes it and tells you the type of diet you should be on. This was the first thing I thought of when reading this thread. Makes me wonder if ww will go in this direction?

The current popular trend is Keto. If WW was going to jump on any fad trend, I’m sure it would be one that is established and well-known.
The DNA diet(s) mentioned, which requires a DNA analysis in order to be told what type of diet to eat, seems like it would be most effective at separating people from their hard-earned money and making the companies doing the analysis rich.

The DNA kits have been available in drug stores here for at least a couple of years now and cost over $100 Australian dollars. I haven’t seen anything in the news or media about it, no advertising, no testimonials.....so have no idea if there’s any benefit to having the test done or what options are offered from the results.

Since WW is still hyping "You can eat ANYTHING" as one of its big "draws", followers of keto and paleo and SF and such (and, due to medRestrictions, I am in that category) are still looked down upon.

Jenny Craig had some reference to "new and exciting" DNA testing a while ago but it doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Since JC was just sold to yet another private equity firm it remains to be seen what direction they will take. Their food prices have gone through the roof and the program is now very restrictive, requiring clients to eat absolutely nothing but JC food (meals, bars, shakes, and snacks) until they hit goal weight. I see a lot of disgruntlement on the JC forums (messages quickly deleted unless the negative is balanced with praise). When the DNA testing was first mentioned on JC people seemed very eager to try it---yet another Ultimate Answer to their weight problem. You would think we would all have learned by now. I dug around and found the page announcing the "coming soon...." JC DNA testing. IIRC it was from about a year ago, at least. Snake oil. www.jennycraig.com/corporate/news/jenny-craig-announces-integration-dna-testing-first-commercial-weight-loss-industry

Good heavens. DNA testing! I am a big fan of DNA testing (for ancestry related reasons) and it is relevant to some health concerns. But, even the most casual research will tell you that doing it for which weight loss plan to follow is just hogwash. It distresses me to see people being taken in by something like that.
On the looking down on people on restrictive diets and keto I think it is all in the presentation. For example, WW was able to sell Core/Simply Filling to members for years and I thought it was so, so, so restrictive. So, they could do something like that. Allow people to spend weekly points on carbs for example but make them so many points that basically you couldn't really eat hardly any. That kind of thing.

I guess it is all about selling The Next Best New Thing.
And we fall for it, time after time, searching for the Holy Grail of weight loss.
After multiple journeys on different paths most of us know what works for us. If we stick to that plan, we lose weight. The trick is sticking to it.
