Good evening, I am SO glad that tomorrow is Friday. No work and no babysitting. Just the normal insanity.
Ruth, I too have a self cleaning oven and also opt for using EZ off or whatever oven cleaner. Seems like a huge waste of energy to superheat an oven and yes, I too am concerned about the safety of the process.(never took my oven door off either). Thanks for the link for the doll- yes I did find the right doll. Its so cute and would be perfect for a baby- or a two year old. Will you also make the doll with a green hat and sweater?
Phyl- sounds like winter has returned!! A raw, rainy day sure can aggravate aches and pains.....hope that the heating pad helps you. Is Don feeling better? I checked out that bowtie block- such a neat concept! Doubt I will ever make it, but its sure nice to see how cool things like that are made. I am sure you will have no problem with that block- and that your helpers will be able to help figure out the best way to make the block and make it look perfect. I look forward to hearing about how well the block turns out.
CJ- when it rains it pours...must have been a bit nerve wracking with the lawn service there and waiting for the donation pick up. A dry day helps too....indeed its overwhelming switching from windows 7 to windows 10. You will get the hang of it pretty quickly....they have corrected some of the initial problems with it to make it more user friendly. But its a pain in the neck and you wish the process was quicker. Yes you will have to get the new one started before the hard drive crashes of the old one....what a nuisance.
DGD was fun but tough to get to nap today....think her teeth are coming in. Worked this am, and Dh went out with friends for lunch, so it made for a more quiet day in a way. I decided to take apart the first quilt block and make the minor switch on the second. Am working on them both and might finish them tonight.
Have a good night Ginny

CJ, come on over and I'll set your laptop up for you. I'm not too bad at doing that. Some people pay to have it done but it's so easy because the latest windows programs have a transfer button that will transfer all your files. Couldn't do that with my Chromebook because it, of course, doesn't have Windows so not all of my filess have been transferred but all that I need have been. I'm glad the donation pickup whent well.Sorry to hear that after all your organizing of the house that you now have to organized your computer files. That's a big job looking thru all to decide what you want to keep
Phyl, I hope Don is well soon and how nice that "the girls" are coming over tomorrow and you'll get help with your quilting. I will go to the site you linked to look at your project. I love looking at those things I hope your back is ok soon too.
Most of my crafting today was untangling and winding up a huge ball of RH with Love yarn. It must be an old skein because they don't make them this large anymore. I used it to make the hippo and the skein collapsed on itself and became a massive mess. I also started a cat head shape potholder for my sister.Next will be dggd's doll.
Then I did some cleaning and other work in the house. I took the oven racks outside to spary with oven clean, did very small amount of vacuuming just under the kitchen counter where there's no kick plates and crumbs get in, and then vacuumed off the shelf on the outside of the woodstove because dh cleaned out the ashes and some got on that shelf. I also organized my baker's rack.So now I'm hoping for a quiet evening of crocheting right after I go out and wash the oven cleaner off those racks.
Ginny, Med, Sue and Betty, I hope all of you are having a good day also
Have a good evening everyone

Oh there you are Ginny. you came in while I was still typing. I'll go and read what you posted now
Ginny, yes that's my second consideration is using too much electricity to do something I can do myself. I hope your weekend starting with tomorrow goes well and no insanity.

Good morning, but it will be afternoon by the time I am done.
Ruth you have been busy getting ready for Ds’s visit! (My oven needs cleaning.....come on over!) Do you think you are done using the woodburner for the season? I remember the other day you moved the woodpile away from the house....so that is an indication that you are done. I love the heat of a woodburner, but they are messy. Congrats on getting the bakers rack straightened out and cleaned up. Your Dh really appreciates your baking efforts...having the baking rack well organized makes that much easier. When in the store the other day, I picked up (for 95 cents) a jar of everything bagel topping mix- so when I make those WW 2 ingredient bagels, I can make everything bagels. I usually make cinnamon raisin for Dh and Dd.....I really like everything (and dislike cinnamon raisin). It takes a lot of patience to untangle a yarn mess. Hats off to you for doing that. Usually when Dh sees me untangling yarn he tells me to just throw the yarn out. Were you able to get some crochetting time in last night?
I have dinner in the oven right now-that way I can scoot out to Hobby Lobby tonight for fabric. Hope I can find a nice wide yardage fabric for the back of my falling charms quilt. This am I did get to work on the two quilt blocks a bit and am really hoping that this afternoon I can finish putting the blocks together- again.
Have a great day! Ginny

Good morning all. It's still morning here
Ginny, I hope you find the fabric you need and some that is really pretty also.Hopefully you will get to do those two blocks tonight and have them finished up. Nothing like the feeling of completing something. Of course then you'll have your next two blocks but at least you won't be adding more to some that haven't been completed yet.
I'm not sure about the wood stove. When sister is here if it gets cold and there isn't wind we might make a fire. As you said, nothing like a nice fire. However it's more likely that we'll just turn the heat higher which reminds me that I need to clean off the tops of the baseboard heater in this room. I'm sure it's collected a lot of dust because we haven't used it this year and it's, right now, hidden behind the couch. I also I'used some upholstery cleaner on one of my couch cushions to see if it works and it did so I'll do the rest today.
No I never did get back to crocheting last night. I'll do some today for sure. While my sister is here I'll work on some scrunchies and headbands while we sit and talk. That will be easy and I won't have to concentrate on them.plus then I can fulfill two of my dgds' requests for more of those items at the same time.
WE're supposed to have a few days now of colder weather with one night going down to 26 and possibility of a little snow. I just hope we don't have our usual May blizzard while dsis is here and esp not at the time we need to pick her up or take back to the airport.

Ruth, sorry you were not able to crochet last night...you are sure in a cleaning mode these days!! Did the upholstery cleaner work well? I like how it seems to freshen a room and leave a clean scent. With cats and grandkids we have furniture covers- easy to take off when company is due. Scrunchies and headbands are great projects to make when you have company and want to chat.
Got a bit more done on the quilt block. Believe me these will not be perfect....hopefully just better. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today It's a cloudy day here and we're supposed to get some thunderstorms this afternoon. I'm hoping they won't be too bad. I finished the quilt top for the Warm Wishes quilt and I'm pretty happy with it. I think it needs a small border around it, just to secure all those strip sets. I tried some of the fabrics I made the quilt with, but didn't care for them as a border - they kind of made the quilt pattern disappear. I think I need a color that is just a bit darker than one of the fabrics in the quilt. I'll think about it for a bit, but I'm glad the top is done. I want to start on those pillows I was making out of my father's shirts. I just need to square up the fabric and then do the sewing, so they should go together pretty quickly. Just need to be in the mood Hope everyone checking in is doing well and that you all have a good weekend. Take care!

Ginny, the blocks are probably more perfect than you think. I hope you have a good evening and can do whatever crafting you want to do..Yes the upholstery cleaner seems to have worked so I'll do the rest but so far today I've moved out the stove and cleaned under it and the sides...wow they sure became a mess since I last did them. I also was able to wash the wall behind the stove and after that did a whole bunch of other cleaning tasks that needed to be done.
CJ, yes sometimes one of the fabrics in the design just doesn't work for a border. I don't know much about making quilts but I've seen a lot of them and noticed that. I looked up the directions for making the shirt pillow when you mentioned them before and they seem pretty easy but, as you said, we have to be in the right mood.
I don't know if any of you ever eat poached eggs but dh and I haven't had any in years and probably even before we met. Back in 2006 when we visited back in NY I made some for my fil several times at his request and they turned out really good but today my dh asked for some so I attempted to make him some and they didn't turn out at all!! I think I made them the same way as I did back in NY so don't know what happened. I mean how can they go wrong when all you use is boiling water with a little vinegar in it. When I put in the eggs the water foamed up a LOT and it turned out that was the egg whites coming off the eggs.

Well here I am again..... CJ- so glad that you got the warm wishes quilt done! (At least the quilt top). A goal accomplished for sure and now you can take a break and online shop for that border or at least get ideas for the border. The pillows from your dad’s flannel shirts ought to be a fun project. Take the time off that you need to regain inspiration. The great thing about the pillows is that if you want to take an hour to make one, that is good, or a whole day to make them all that works too. they are a small easy project, one at a time. Ruth, you are asking the wrong person about making eggs. I dislike them intensely- and will only eat them if they are in a quiche (so I am really not tasting the eggs). I have made poached eggs successfully but absolutely forget how to make them. I have a decent recipe for making them in the microwave....You are a cleaning fiend! Wow,pulling out the stove to clean behind is no easy task and unless you are a “Mrs Clean” type person, a semi grungy job. When I cleaned behind my mothers stove to sell the house,it was probably 25 years of grime....she never ever cleaned behind there. Cleaning like you are just makes you feel good, its nice knowing that things are that clean!! Back from the Hobby Lobby and my friend and I both did well. We considered going to Joanns- who also have a sale going, but I found what I hope to be the perfect fabric at HL- one that actually looks like it was made to match the quilt. Hopefully I like it when I put the quilt together. It was a very successful trip indeed. I am in my jammies, hope to get the second block back together. Then I can rest for a week until my next block is assigned. Hope that Phyl, Sue and Betty get to checkin and are doing well. So glad its Friday. Ginny

I looked up several microwave youtubes but they all said different things so I had no idea of what one to use.
Ginny, I'm glad to hear that you found what may(and I hope is) the perfect fabric for our quilt.
Yes I did get in some more crocheting and hope to get in more.
One woman in a crochet group posted a thing about collecting patterns beyond what you could make in 257 years...that would be me. I'm still collecting them. My yarn from Lion came today. It was interesting to see that they packed in in some box they obviously received yarn in themselves and they did a terrible job of taping it closed. It was obvious that FedEx had to retape and sill it was coming apart. I'm glad I was here when the driver knocked on the door because it rained soon after that and the yarn would have been soaked and maybe would have fallen out of the box.

Happy Saturday! Ruth, I will check out youtube also for you....if i remember correctly the “poached” egg was made in a coffee cup, sprayed with cooking spray and a small amount of milk added. Then the egg when in (and then the yolk is pierced with a fork). Invert a saucer over the top of the coffee cup (to make a lid) and cook in the microwave for 1 minute on high. But, I will check...see if I can locate the recipe or find something similar on youtube. Well, going green and recycling is one thing, but it behooves a company to properly close their packages. That is rather a shocker that the package left Lion Brand in such awful condition. Of course I think they ought to know what happened, but you have had difficulty getting through to them. As long as the yarn is ok....well I guess that is what matters. Kudos to the Fed Ex driver who did his job and made sure that your package got inside out of the rain.
Noone else is up yet....I might work on the quilt block so that I can declare it done. Overall I am happy with how the first quilt block (after being reworked a bit) turned out. G

Darn, my post left again. I have a habit of putting the heels of my hands on the keyboard and this computer is touchy so zip they go.
Ginny, yes getting the block done is a good idea. It will relieve your mind and you won't have to worry that you might make a mistake and end up having to run to get more fabric or something at the last minute. I'm sure this is going to be beautiful. I hope you've had a good day so far and that Meg, CJ, Phyl, Sue, and Betty all did too.
Two weeks from today is when my dsis gets here so I have time but mostly all I have left to do are things that I have to do at the last minute. The last couple things I can do early I'll do tomorrow. I did the back of the cushion that I used cleaner on the front of a couple days ago so I may do the rest of the cushions tomorrow. I also made an appt to have the recall work done on the car. Might as well get that done. I did do a few household chores today and I'm working on the cat head shaped pot holder for dsis and I looked up patterns for the blankets I want to make and some things for youngest dgd's bday so I'll have them when I want to start working on them.Going to go finish the potholder now because all it needs is the front and back crocheted together.
