Happy Monday!!! Hope you had a blessed Easter, if you celebrate....or not just a nice weekend
MEG!!!!! Our Meg stopped in- so very glad to see her!! Glad to hear that Janet is out of rehab and that your life has gotten a bit simpler. What a kind and caring heart you have, thinking of making afghans for the people at the rehabilitation center. I know from my mom’s experiences at assisted living and rehab that many do not ever get any visitors- what a blessing it would be to make afghans for those individuals. What color is Janets afghan- are you using the V Stitch?
Phyl, sounds like you had a nice Easter. thanks for the sagely advice on machine cleaning- I bought a vacuum hose attachment at Joanns so I would be sucking air (and lint!) out of my machine. I know that blowing into the machine is a bad idea. At the LQS, they suggested we buy Thangles (they will be used for the May block) and Tri Recx triangles - which I did. I will work through this....got the second block cut and now just need to sew it. Regarding the ribbon block, well, sometimes walking away and taking a break is the best thing. You will get it just fine....you are a solid quilter and I am sure will master it!!
Ruth, what a lovely remembrance of Dh’s stepmother. She sounds like a loving and caring woman who was a bright light of joy in an otherwise dark place. I am glad that you have good memories of her - as I am sure your Dh does also. We have quite a discussion about old cars going. We have always had a junker, but this Honda is our oldest. It does not look pretty but runs well. Guess now the biggest issues is the quirky stuff that breaks (like hood latches) because the vehicle is that old. Hey, any news from your DGS in Taiwan?
CJ- glad the crafting bug hit you!!! The warm wishes quilt might turn out gorgeous....just a more subtle quilt than you would expect. Can you add a contrasting border if you feel it needs to be livened up?
Gotta go....did finish my book last night (YAY!), and spent a few moments on the pillowcase. Hope to get some quilting time in today, but DD will be here with the grandkids. We shall see. Ginny

Yes we've had our share of oldjunkers along with our new vehicles...usually always an old junker amoung them. For awhile it seemed as though dh really liked finding old ones. Had to have a good one too though because of having to get to work, etc...had to have something really reliable since there's no public transportation here. Yes it was so great to see Meg! And it's good to hear that she doesn't have to wear herself out driving back and forth every day to check on Janet. Yes Meg definitely has a kind and generous heart.
Well I finished the hippo!! He is so cute!. He looked a little naked though plus I was a little off on the placement of the second arm so I made him a scarf which covers the tops of the arms and gives him a more finished look too. Now to decide what to start next. Some of my yarn arrived today. I ordered two different yarns for each of the afgans so have to decide which to use.I found a great granny square to use for the cross blanket. I don't like joining things but I'm going to make the cross part all in these granny squares which have a cross in each one too. Then I'll make either solid squares or even rectangles to make the part around the cross. I have to make dgd's blanket first though because her birthday is before I need to send the other as that one will be a Christmas present.I'm still not sure about which pattern I'm going to use for that but I'm thinking a simple sc, dc alternated or a hdc, sl st alternated since the yarn is bulky and won't show an actual pattern very well. Also, as I've mentioned too, I have to figure out some things to make for the other dgd who will be 8 at the end of August. I'm considering a hat, maybe a poncho with arm openings or what they're calling a shawl sweater, and a crocheted doll with some clothing. There's a woman that designs patterns for really nice dolls which she gives free but charges for the clothing. I think I can make clothing without having to buy her patterns

Hello Crafters - Welcome to a new week Meg - It's so great to see you post. I'm glad to hear that Janet is out of rehab and I hope she continues to improve. Hopefully things will be less stressful for you now too. I enjoyed reading about how everyone else is doing and what you're working on too. My crafting energy left again yesterday I'm hoping it returns this week so I can finish up that quilt top. It will bug me to see it laying on the table, so that will probably motivate me to finish it. It's a sunny day here, but cooler - just the way I like it. I think we might get 80s tomorrow. I have another donation pickup scheduled for Wednesday so I'm hoping for no rain that day since I have to put the things out in my driveway in the morning and sometimes they don't come until later in the day. Take care everyone!

Happy Tuesday! Just a short stop in, as DGD is sleeping and due up soon.
Ruth, what are your plans for the new yarn? I love the idea of the cross in each granny square....and then making a cross out of the squares themselves. I usually pray for the person as I crochet....am sure you will do something similar too. What color scheme will you use? Congrats on finishing the hippo!!! Wish I could see him!
CJ- must be something in the air, I had a donation pick up this am. Wrap the boxes in plastic bags....that way if it rains the donated goods stay dry. Glad you have a good book to read. Nothing like a good book and beautiful weather. Ok, nothing like a good book. Period! Hope you get your crafting mojo back soon. Your energy has been put into clearing out your home- which is a good thing too.
Recut 2 small squares last night that I trimmed a little bit too much. Worked this am- and am now waiting for DGD to awaken. Yesterday I ordered another book for myself, one I recommended to a friend. Probably will not get it for a week or so as its being sent media mail. And next week is the second meeting for BOM! Oh dear I did not finish the first 2 blocks. Yikes. Well one block is done, the other needs to be sewn.
Have a great day all Ginny

Hello to all. We just got home from shopping and other errands. Still have to put away the non perishables but at least the perishables are stored. CJ, I hope it didn't rain or at least that your things were sheltered in some way. Yes you will get that crafting bug back. Ginny, sorry to hear you cut the fabric a little short. can you still use it or do you have extra. I hope your dgd enjoys her nap. She sounds like a happy baby so she probably wakes up cheerful. Nothing like that smile they give you when you go to get them out of the crib. Well you all might remember my dilemma and my work at working out when my sister would visit and when ds would visit so that they didn't end up here at the same time. No one listens to me I guess. My sister, as you know is coming May 11th and I told my ds that she was coming in the spring. Welll today I got a message from ds that he's thinking of visiting from May 14th to 20th!!!!! Well I messaged him back and told him dsister was going to be here then but he can come too if he doesn't mind not being the only company. I'm sure my sister will love seeing him. She hasn't seen him since 1992.So we'll see what he says.

Hey Ruth, gee that is quite something that both your son and Ds will be with you at the same time. I wonder if Ds’s availability is based upon a work schedule and that is the only time that he can get away. At least for the beginning of the time you will have your sister to yourself, which might be nice because you have not seen her for awhile. GUess with having company it does not matter so much whether you have one extra person or two. And very nice that they can also visit with each other. When my sister comes to visit, I admit to getting tired of entertaining her and am usually ready to get back to my boring life after 3 or 4 days. WIth both of them visiting, it does mean that perhaps they can take some of the burden off of you. It does stink that you will most likely not get any time with Ds by himself.....will he be bringing any of his children with him? Hope it all works out in a way that is happy for everyone.
As far as my fabric issue goes, I have extra- enough to cut the proper size piece. Not sure what I was thinkng when I trimmed this piece too small.
DGD was hysterical today. It was so nice out, we let her out on the deck for the first time. (She just learned to walk and thought it was quite “the thing” to be walking on the deck. She is such a sweet baby.

Oh I know she was so cute toddling around on the deck! You're so lucky to be able to have her to yourself so much. Reminds me of when my oldest grandchildren were young. I worked at th4e time but on my days off I often had one or both of the first two and sometimes had the first three all at the same time. It was fun Well ds says he's going to think about when to come. Guess he wants to have us all to himself. He has a conference to go to in Ohio in June. If all else fails he can always come in the fall. His department at work is very good at being flexible about time off and he hadn't put in the request for time off yet nor had he bought his plane ticket so as far as those two things go everything is ok there. Oh and Ginny, you asked about the color of the hippo...I just made him in gray and made him a white scarf. Dh says I should have made it red so I might make a red one too since the one I made is actually too wide I'm glad you have the extra fabric because I know you would hate to have to go to the fabric store

Good morning!
Ruth, seems as though Ds is just being considerate and hoping that he does not place too much of a burden on you and Dh. There are pros and cons to visiting together with your Ds and comming separate times. My guess is that he is hoping that its less trouble for you if he comes a separate time and that gives you more time with your sister who you have not seen in quite awhile. Grey hippo....red hippo..... they all sound adorable! Will Dh keep the red one (to be made) for himself?
Dh informed me that Hobby Lobby has 30% off all their fabric!! (Please stop laughing). Ok, I do need the border and backing fabric for the falling leaves quilt- so I am going up Friday evening with my friend to investigate. Online they have what seems to be perfect fabric for the falling leaves quilt, plus its 108 inches wide- again perfect for a quilt back. My Gf has to make a baby quilt....so I hope that this will help her also.
Beautiful day. Cool and breezy. Have a good day Ginny

Good morning all. I hope everyone is having a good day. Ginny, that fabric sounds perfect. I know you will hate having to go to that store but well, you'll force yourself . I know I'd be buying fabric as well as yarn. HL has wonderful fabric.Good thing our HL isn't closer. I wasn't very clear. It's the scarf that will be red not another hippo although I might make one for the dgd who's bday is in August. He's so cute I know she'll like him. I did see another that is smaller and has a lifesaving ring..one of those you see on a beach around him and a little rubber ducky in his hand so might make that one although there are more parts obviously so maybe not. I'm kind of at loose ends trying to decide what to work on next so I didn't work on anything yesterday after we got home from shopping.

TCJ, have you had any notifications of recalls on your new car? I just got the third one yesterday. The first two were nothing serious...the computer needed programming to do the alert for when you leave your keys in the car, the second was the gasket between the hood and windshild frame or something like that because it could leak, but this 3rd one sounds serious. It's a defect in the rear coil springs which they say can break, cause damage to your tire and cause you to crash. They say it will take about two hours to fix it so I guess I'll be crocheting in the waiting room again. Sprayed my oven a couple hours ago so have to go and wash it out now. I did do some crocheting this morning and made hippo his red triangle scarf..He looks so handsome. I'm getting kind of attached to this hippo. I may have to make one for me. I also remembered that I do have more gifts to make and that is for my dggd. I forgot her bday is at the end of July. I was thinking I had till the end of Sept to make her something. I do have the perfect doll to make for her though. www.zhaya.de/downloads/minicuddlydoll_EN.p At least I think it will be perfect...Ginny, you have more recent experience with small children. She will be 2. Do you think this doll is too "babyish"?

Ruth, I was unable to open the link for the doll- but I entered Zhaya downloads mini cuddly doll in the search box....ended up on ravelry with a doll wearing a green hat and sweater, and there was a flower on the hat. If that is the doll, no, I think its fine- because at that age they still need a doll that has no choking hazards....and well we all know that 2 year olds like to play hard with their dollies! I think its a really cute doll and will be perfect. Our DGD#2 does not play with dolls yet, but has a stuffed bunny that she LOVES. So really, think anything cute like that will work. You are courageous taking on your oven, but with Ds coming, well, I guess I would do the same. The hippo with his red scarf sounds so cute....and well I think you ought to have one too! You make so much for others. Yes, get the car in for the recalls....you and Dh do not put a ton of miles on the car so Its probably not going to be a problem for you, but still a good idea to get it fixed.
Got some of the dreaded gardening done again today....got my walk in and then went back to working on the second quilt block. I make a lot of mistakes....but am learning for sure. Have one small issue on the second quilt block to fix....and then am going to take apart the first one and redo some of the 4x4 mini blocks that make up the larger block. Think i can do it better this time and will be happier with the result. Hope that all the blocks in the BOM are not this crazy for me. Guess I just need to keep trying and will improve little by little.
Been quiet here today.....Hi to CJ, Sue, Becky, Phyl and Meg....and anyone else who stops in. Gnny

www.zhaya.de/downloads/minicuddlydoll_EN.pdfYes here is the real link. Somehow the df got cut off. It has a dark green body and hat with large flower and light green triangle scarf. Sounds like you found the right one. The pattern was translated to English so there are some typos and there is a mistakein the first row of the scarf but most people would know that right away and know to ignore the end Ch3 and do a ch4 instead. Yes we never learn if we don't try. I'm always reluctant to try things because I'm afraid they won't turn out. Well how will a person know if it turns out or not if they don't try. And we won't become proficient at something we don't practice and do over when that's what's needed. No I don't expect that my sister will be using my oven but I wanted it to be clean. There are a couple spots that still need work but it looks good. It was hard work though because my oven door doesn't come off like some do so I had to practically stand on my head to get the top of the oven and the back wall. It is a self cleaning oven but the thought of using something that gets that hot is not something I want to take a chance on. I know most people use them all the time.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. Ruth - I haven't had any recalls on my car, but I guess my car is part of this airbag problem that I've been hearing about on the news. I wonder if my car dealership will email me if they have recalls on my vehicle? I guess I'll see, but I know there are websites to check to. Hope everything goes well with your visitors coming in next Month. Ginny - Hope the BOM gets easier, but I know you can do it I know some of the ones I joined online just got so complicated that I quit. That Moda one I started had little 6x6 blocks and drove me crazy I haven't been on my computer much because I can tell it's getting bad and I'm concerned it will crash. I've spent some time today downloading files onto an external hard drive so I'll have them for a new computer. The last desktop computer I had crashed and I lost everything on the hard drive, so I was worried about that happening again. I bought a laptop a few weeks ago, but haven't tried to set it up yet. Guess I need to do that soon. I'm not looking forward to learning Windows 10. I've been spoiled with having Windows 7 for so many years, but I'm sure I will adjust eventually. I think I'll also have to buy the Microsoft package so I can have Word, Excel, etc. I just dread the whole set up of a new computer - making sure I can open files, pictures, etc. I do look forward to not saving a bunch of "junk" on the new computer. I have a tendency to just download a bunch of patterns, files, pictures, etc. and then I never look at them again. I want to try not to do that on the new computer. My donation pickup went well yesterday. Of course, my lawn guys had to come on the same day! I put a cover over the items in the driveway until they left, so I wouldn't get grass all over everything. There was no rain yesterday, so that helped too. Hope everyone else is doing well and getting in some crafting. I sewed another row onto the Warm Wishes quilt and hope to get back to that. Take care everyone!
