CJ, that's what I was visualizing it being...stitching between the pieces so basically sewing in stitches only not in fabric. That's why I couldn;t and still can't see how that holds together. I'll have to try it so see it for myself but I'm not good at sewing straight now either.I used to be way better but I was really surprised when I got this machine and did some sewing to see that I had trouble with straight seams.
Phyl, I color with my young grandchildren but as far as adult coloring books I don't think that I'd be interested. It's a good thing that God gave us all a variety of interests. Sure would be a boring world if we all like the same thing. I do hope your candidate wins.Gonna be cold here again, too starting Thurs so I made soup..two kinds.Back to crocheting this evening. Using the bulky yarn I've found what I need to do so now can use the yarn I intend for the project. I haven't started it yet. You make a chain of 255 stitches then join the chain. I've never been good at joining chains so I just do a row of single crochet in the chain THEN I join it on the next row. After you get done then all you do is use your beginning end and while weaving it in you then join those two chains..the first and the last. Plus then it creates a nice edge on what you're making. While using the bulky yarn to test the pattern out I was actually able to join the chain without getting it twisted.Guess there's a first for everything

A quick good morning from me, as I have a super busy day....
Phyl- well thanks for telling us about the stitch in the ditch foot! I wonder if I can get one for my machine? Seems like you are really enjoying coloring....my sister in law does too.
Ruth- that is so sweet of that friend of yours to send those dishcloths...they are so pretty in crochet cotton....so nice to use.
CJ- you will find what works best for you! Remember, there are no hard and fast rules in quilting! Do what works for you ! You could also try a zig zag stitch in the ditch....same effect but the lines do not have to be straight.
Off to drive the kiddies Ginny

Hello all. I ended up not doing anymore crocheting last evening so I actually got very little done at all yesterday as far as crochet goes. I did more organizing in the craft room though and made that soup and then just read. It's not as warm today as they said it would be. Not even 40 and tomorrow they're saying we'll get 9-11 inches of snow so I'm going to get supplies ready for a couple different projects in case I just want to spend the day in our "winter apartment". We have electric baseboard heat and don't want to pay a while lot to heat the rooms a lot that we really don't use so when it's really cold we usually just stay in our bedroom which is a good size and where we have a mini fridge a microwave, and an electric kettle in the alcove and of course tv and laptop. It's like a nice motel room and we can heat that as we like without the warm air escaping to other parts of the house. I have a nice rocking chair in there that I sit in to do my crafts. Our house is spread our and lots of windows so it can be very costly to keep the whole thing warm..unless we can use the woodstove then I sit upstairs in the living room with a fire going. Can't use it when it's windy though... I'm sure I've mentioned that previously so forgive the repetition

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today. phyl - thanks for the tip on the Stitch in the Ditch foot. I think I've seen one for sale in the Nancy's Notions catalog. Hope your weather doesn't get too cold. Ginny - I did try the zig-zag on one of the practice pieces and I liked that stitch, so I do have that option. Ruth - Hope you make out alright with the snow and cold weather. Your "winter apartment" sounds nice and a smart thing to do to save costs for heating. Meg - Hope you are doing well. I did some quilting today working on blocks for the Solstice quilt. Today is Block #10 and it was quick to put together. I also remade Block #2 with different fabrics. And on Block #6, I removed the pieces on each end of this block and replaced with a different fabric. I had used a very light colored fabric for these two blocks and every time I laid all the blocks out, these two just really stuck out and didn't blend well. The new fabric is still light, but not as light as the first one so I'm happier with how they all look together now. Here's a link to see Block #10: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/ - scroll down for pictures Take care everyone!

What a long day!!! Gee, Ruth, can we all come and play in your winter apartment? Sounds like a fun and cozy place to be- and I agree, why heat the whole house if you can hole up and do not mind that! I do know it's a mind set- I love snow days for just that reason, you can just get locked inside and craft or read...it's a wonderful thing. Glad you got some more organizing done in your craft area though.
CJ- I did check out the solstice quilt- and am again amazed at how different everyone views the quilt and uses fabric differently. It was neat how one quilter made a mistake- and then made the same quilt block again with out the mistake (it was a black and white quilt block). Glad you found zig zag working for you for stitching in the ditch. I know it's pricey, but if you ever decide to top stitch a whole quilt the sulky variegated threads are beautiful, come in many different color schemes and make a nice finishing touch. (Plus you only use the sulky in the top thread, so it's less expensive). I know it's just top stitching....but the sulky threads look so pretty.
Got some crochetting done in the car today, and am going to sit down with Dh and crochet some more now. Perhaps only have another 5 or 6 rows on the hat and it's done.
Yes, Ruth, the weather for casts are often wrong. Even here today did not get as warm as they said it would.
Hi to Phyl and Meg. Off to do some hooking. Ginny

Hello everyone, It is very nice here today and I went shopping. First the grocery store then the Vitamins shop and thrn I went to Jo Anns I did buy some yarn. It is close to Michaels and I usually shop there. But recently I have noticed that they have a very poor selection of Lyon Pound of Love. So Will probably go to Jo Anns in future. I use it a lot for making b/blankets which I usually donate.
Now I am home for the day.
Ruth, that is a very good idea to have everything you need in you b/room then you can keep nice and warm when the weather is really cold.
I am sleepy so I will check back later.

It's great to come back and see so many posted.
CJ I'm going to go and look at the blocks as soon as I get done here. I love looking at them and seeing how each person makes a different one although they're all the same block. Yes I think i'd do a zigzag too. When we can't do a straight line we may as well take advantage of that to use something that might end up being even nicer than a straight line. You must have a really great sense of color too from the way you went back and change colors on some of the blocks to make them more harmonious
Ginny, yes it is very cozy and best part is the togetherness with dh. Even if he's taking a nap I get to sit and "do my thing" and see him peacefully sleeping.
Meg, while I was organizing my yarn I found that I have 9 of those pound of love in that pink that we got on sale. I don't know what in the world I'm ever going to do with nine of them and I might actually have another one or two in another part of the house. When do the "boys" get home from Florida?
Phyl, I'm glad Delona found out her SIL crochets and can help her. It's better than having to go to a class.I do have some of the caron pound yarn but I recently bought some of that brand but not the pound one.. I forget what it's called. I don't usually buy that brand but it was on a big sale. Now I really have to quit buying yarn and use this that I have up.With that pound of love I think I'll make their pattern for the hooded baby blanket. I have other colors in the "pound" and I have some huge balls of yarn like that from other companies too..must be Bernat... so when I want to do mindless crochet I'll just work on a blanket. Going to use my unused portions of other yarns to make hats.

Good morning!
Meg, I am not a huge fan of Michaels- as a matter of fact I cannot think of one aspect of crafting that they do "best". Do not blame you for going to Joanns- who usually does run good sales and has good online coupons. They have lots of free shipping events too- so if you "need" yarn and want to go the stay at home route you can order online.
Phyl- it took a lot of staring but the one block had the white with black dots fabric (near the center) on the outer half of the square instead of the middle. Like I said, the dots really do confuse the eye- and it was not noticeable unless you scrutinized. So glad you have crochetting help if you need it!! Did you color last night or crochet?
Ruth- sounds like you are making a lot of hats in pink.....or perhaps a nice afghan. A granny square with a contrasting color would be lovely- with the 2 squares being the inverse of the other. I have a granny here that my mom did- it only has 2 colors but there are 4 possibilities for different squares and it's striking
Yes, I will go back to CJ's site and see which blocks are my favorites..
Getting to the end of the hat- probably only 3 or 4 more rows to go. Ginny

afternoon, I did go to joan's. wouldn't you know they still don't have the color I want in pound of love? they only had 25% off the color of the 4 skeins I already have. I do have enough to get me started. a couple of weeks ago I bought the skein for 50% off. SO I will keep watching. their are 3 different sizes to the bb pattern.
I think Michael's quality has gone down In a lot of stuff.they just don't seem to be the store they use to be.
my intent was to get some cleaning done today. haven't started.
I did color last night. phyl

I did just a tiny bit of crocheting last night so have to catch up today
I've never been to a Micheal's store. We don't have one here. I don't know that I've even looked at their online site. I think I mentioned that we used to have a Joann's but it closed. For one thing they used to be very skimpy in cutting fabric and a couple times they cut it crooked and I ended up with not enough fabric to make what I had planned. Plus the store was just really cluttered and messy. we do need a fabric store here.I still haven't been to any of the quilt stores I heard had opened here. I see Red Heart has two kinds of new yarn that are sold exclusively at Michaels but because of the bad RH I've been getting lately I'm not going to worry about trying those anyway. Oh and actually I forgot that Hobby Lobby does have fabric but, it's only a small part of the store. I'd like to see a while fabric store come back here. They do have a nice selection though and prices aren't bad.
I looked at the blocks. In #22 they have coffee fabric... I have some of that! I like blocks 60,65,61,43,39,29,6,1 and the 22 best but there are some others that are very nice also and again some that just should be different colors or placement.
Ginny, yes I think a granny square with some of this pink would be a good plan. I do have some other colors that would work with that. Looking at quilt squares really does give you ideas for color combos.I think a small granny square baby blanket with a hood made of grannies sewn or crocheted on would be a great thing for a baby...hat and blanket in one. And when I do hats to donate I always make them with various stripes sometimes with spike stitches...makes for a really pretty hat. In my head I can see some nice pink "spikes" going down into other colors. I'll have to experiment. Nice thing about experimenting with hats is that some of the hats go to the state school for developmentally delayed individuals and our cap for kids leader told us that she was told the "kids" really love hats with bright and bold colors and a mix of unusual colors.THose are the ones they always choose for themselves and these spike stitch hats really can do that in a big way.
ok now I'm inspired to get on with my crocheting.

Hello everyone.
I was just so tired yesterday I just gave up on my post. I had my2nd iron infusion this morning so that ahould perk me up a bit.
Ruth I bought 4 of those skeins of Pound of Love in the pink when it was on sale. I have used one skein so far but I don't just want to make one pink b/blanket after the other. So it will take me awhile to use it up. I am knitting a b/blanket with it now. "the boys" will be back Friday evening. I did speak to Devin on the phone yesterday and he likes it in Florida. I will hear all about it when they get home.
Ginny, I am not sure why I have been going to Michaels so much but lately they have not had a very good selection of the yar I use which is Pound of Love. So I went to JoAnns and they have lots of it. So I bough the tangerine color it will make a nice bright b/blanket. I have used that color before and it was popular. I really shouldn't be buying yarn but what happens I have lots of yarn just not what I want at the moment.
Phyl, they had lots of Carron One Pound yesterday and they had a very good selection of Red Heart yarns but I already have several skein of One Pound so I didn't buy any. I bought a skein of Pound of Love and 3 skeins of Simply Soft. I have so much yarn already I should not be buying any but I was in the mood. That's what gets me in trouble.
Have a fun day.

Hi Meg, it's good to see you. I'm glad the second iron infusion is over with. now only 3 more to go right?
I've never seen pound of love in tangerine. I think that would be pretty. Young people really go for different colors in their baby items nowdays. they even call it "modern colors" I haven't seen pound of love in any of the stores here so I think I can only get it online now. I don't need any yarn though so have to restrain myself. I'm just wasting money if it never gets used.
I didn't see the mistake in the black and white square either and I do try to do a bit of those "find the mistake" puzzles they have in newspapers when I get a chance. I guess I still have a ways to go in finding differences.
