Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Sorry I've been missing for a few days, I've been consumed with my home phone problems. I've finally decided that I'm going to get rid of my landline and transfer that number to a cell phone. I've also been researching what phones are available and I want to narrow down that search today. The last decision will be what store to go to. The nicer store is about 45 minutes away, the not so nice store is only 20 minutes. I hate all theses decisions The weather here has been hit and miss, some warm, some cooler days. It has been a bit humid too. I did some house cleaning this morning and hope to get out tomorrow and deal with the phone. I've read it can take anywhere from a few days to a few weeks to transfer the phone number, so I need to get it done soon. I found some rhubarb in the store the other day so I'm stewing it with some strawberries and will enjoy eating it. I hope to find some more this month so I can freeze it to eat later. Hope you are all enjoying some crafting and nice weather. Take care!

When I got my new phone I had looked to see if they could give me the same number and although it was said that it could be done when it really came down to doing it they couldn't. I hope you can get yours. In my case I didn't care one way or another. Sometimes it's good to get a new phone number. In my case there were a couple people that had my number that I didn't want having it anyway so that worked out good for me.What kind of phone are you going to get to replace your landline? I still need to pick out and buy one to meet the requirements of tracfone's update.I have till the end of the year they said but for some reason seem to want people to get the appropriate phone as soon as possible and they claim they're having specials on the phones that fit their new system.
As promised it is snowing today but not much. Just enough to be wet and cold. I don't know if I'm going to pick up my truck or not. Maybe I should just leave it there another day just to see if it will start when I try to pick it up.I do have to call for a shuttle driver to pick me up though so since they will know I'm coming they would probably try and maybe jumpstart it if it doesn't start and not tell me. I guess I'm too negative and suspicious.Dh says just go get it that he knew they wouldn't find anything as sometimes they don't. I know when I got my other vehicle the service engine light came on soon after so I took it to be tested and they said nothing wrong but then I ended up having to have a new alternator put in and it still didn't work right. That's the one I finally gave to my neighbor and it works for him but then he knows more about vehicles than we do and he uses it a lot where we just mostly have our vehicles sitting here which is bad for them. Dh is buying something called a battery tender for all our vehicles now even for the lawn tractor and atv.

Good afternoon!
CJ- well I know what I went through a year ago and it was not fun or pretty and took a LONG time to straighten out. So its understood that its a lot of work transferring your land line to a cell. I hope it works out well for you and the service is what you need. Funny- 20 years ago we never would have given up a land line and now, well, its something that even I might consider. Just gotta make sure you have a way to keep the cell charged all the time. We all have times like that in which getting caught up in the business of life keeps us from having some fun time crafting. the one good thing is now that you no longer have a landline, you can carry your phone number if you decide to move. Some pain making the transition now, but it will make things easier later.
Ruth, I wonder what you decided to do with the car, pick it up today or leave that till tomorrow? I am not familiar with a battery tender....what does it do? I hope it works too!!! tough when you live in an area with a cold winter to have battery problems.
Phyl- Please tell Becky that if she registers with Lion brand. (Free to do) she can access and print out all their patterns- and find the perfect baby afghan pattern for her.
Got my hair done this am...then ran a bunch of errands. One of them was into Joanns to help my friends husband pick out a sewing basket for her as a birthday gift. So I guess I got some crafting time in being in Joanns.
Got back from errands around 2 so I am just trying to catch my stride for this day. Have a wonderful day all! Ginny

afternoon, betty was on roll call.said she found a pattern.wishes the grandson would have asked sooner .the baptism is sunday.
did not go bumin today. took me 3 hours to fall asleep. then slept for 3 hours. am a slug all day. the diabetes has to be playing a roll in this.
course then that makes the hip/joint pain worse.
so I don't feel like being in my playpen.that makes me feel worse. haven't even felt like knitting at night. such is life.
we are having more rain. people in the north side of town are tried of pumping out their basements.they don't even live by the water.seepage. that part of town is in a flood plain.
I sure am glad when we bought our house we did not buy in a flood plain house with septic system or a sump pump.my dad was a plummer's helper, heard to many stories from him. phyl

I thought the duplex was finished. Wrong. The cabinets look good. The floor looks good. Needs baseboards, light fixtures, the top for the kitchen cabinets, the bathroom and one bedroom still need painting. It will probably be ready by June 1.
After the duplex, I went to Costco. Then got some KFC for my poor starving hb! He wanted to get some yesterday and had a bad moment when I told him that with two dogs in the car that wasn't happening.
I'm wrestling with the landline issue, too. For now I think we need both. I consider it to be a form of insurance.
This afternoon I wandered around the backyard with the woofers. Just thinking about the changes I would like to make where the aspen roots are creating problems with cutting the grass.
The cabin is about forty miles from the house. We will probably have more snow, but it won't last for long.

I really don't want to get rid of my landline either, but I'm concerned about what they will have to do outside and inside the house to replace the copper wires with fiber optic wires - I've read stories of cutting into walls inside and the foundation outside. If I don't get the wires replaced by June, I can't keep the landline. Also, with fiber optic wires I'll have to have a battery pack plugged into an electrical outlet, and in the phone, in the house. That's a problem for me since I'm limited on outlets in this old house. So really the days of having a landline that will always work even in a power outage (which was the reason I liked it) are going to be over soon - once all the copper wire phone lines are gone. When I go to the Verizon store I'm going to make sure to tell them that if they can't transfer (port) my current landline number to a cell phone, I don't want the cell phone. If that's the case then I'll have to think about getting the fiber optic or just losing the number and going to cellphones. We've had this phone number since 1954 and it's the only phone number I've ever had, so I'd really like to keep it. I'm hoping it will be no problem to transfer the number. The current voicemail recording was done by my father and I would love to keep that too, but I'm figuring that it won't transfer over to a cell phone. The family like to call my phone and get the voicemail so they can hear my father's voice again I currently have 2 other phones (Tracfones) - so I have 3 phones total. It's crazy really, I rarely use the phone In the big scheme of life this is nothing, in the day to day life for me it's stressful Sending good thoughts out to all of you

CJ. if you already have two trackfrones can't you just cancel one of those and get a new one with your landline number. Why go to Verizon? I used to have Verizon and it was my only phone but then changed to trackfone because it's cheaper and I don't use the phone much. I guess with Verizon you can get unlimited calls, texts, etc.Maybe you can't with tracfone, I'm not sure. When we had the little fishing cabin in Arkansas they used fiberoptic cable but didn't do anything inside the house. WE had a landline back then because we had dialup for our computer acess. And since you have a desk top computer you could get a internet phone...I think they have a lot of choices for that now besides just Magic Jack (which you can get at Walmart) All and all it's a big decision and can be stressful so although there are lots of choices I would just go with the one that's easiest for you to deal with.

Our poor little thread is all neglected today.
Earlier I crocheted a little then dh got up and we went to do the shopping for dsis' visit. Went to Walmart and they didn't have what we wanted and needed then went to Kroger and the things we wanted weren't on sale this week so it was a discouraging shopping trip. It's not like we don't have food in the house though so all is well. We just weren't able to get some things for some things we wanted to make.
Tomorrow will be last minute cleaning day and I'll also do a little cooking and baking so that food will be ready when she gets here Saturday and can just be heated with just a little cooking of the veggies, etc.
It did snow yesterday and today both but didn't stick except on the mountain which is now covered. Next week is to be beautiful.
I'm going to go relax and crochet now and will see you all later... I hope

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today
Ruth - I'm excited for you to have your family visiting. I know it's a lot of work sometimes to get ready for a visit, but I'm sure it will be wonderful to see her.
Thanks for all your thoughts on my phone situation. One thing you need to know about me is that if there is an easy way to do something, that I won't pick that way, I'll pick the most difficult
I went to the Verizon store today and got a new cell phone and they were able to transfer my landline number over to the phone while I was there, no problems. I can make calls but it will be up to 10 days before I can receive them. I'm just really happy that I get to keep my phone number and that I can take it will be wherever I go.
I also went in Michael's while I was out and walked around the yarn section, lots of pretty things. I bought a few artificial flowers to take to the cemetery for this weekend.
The weather here was cloudy all day but the sun has come out late this afternoon and it got up to 80. Looks like we'll have a rainy Mother's Day here, but I don't have anyone that I celebrate holiday with anymore, so I'll just be staying home. Hope all of you get to do something nice on Mother's Day.

Cj, I'm so happy to hear that you were able to not only get a new cellphone but were able to keep that number that means so much to you.
I don't know what we'll be doing on Mother's Day but probably go over to dd's house. I don't usually do anything on the day but because sister will be here and will want to see my dd we will probably do that. Daughter's oldest, 3rd, and youngest daughters will probably be there too and the great grandaughter. No one has said anything yet so I'm pretty sure it won't be for dinner so after visiting dsis and I will come home and eat.

Found a really easy pattern for a blanket. It was from the lion brand of yarn that I bought. Pretty much rows of hdc, double crochet and single crochet. Have a pretty good start on it. My little fur baby, Ozzie makes crocheting difficult because he likes to sit on my lap a lot.
ready for bed. We were gone a lot today, made me tired, so much driving.

Good morning!
CJ- those little things do mean a lot to some of us- and that is a personality trait about you that we have come to know and love about you. I think as crafters, we tend to be more sentimental about the little things of life and we relate to the small things of our daily life with more emotional attachment. Just think of the time and effort we put into our gifts, made with love for others....so its no surprise that you would want to keep your phone number. When I had to shut down my mom’s house, and ultimately cancel the phone number that I had known since the mid 50’s, well, it did give me moment to pause (I could not keep that number, as it was in another state). I am really happy for you that you can keep the number and that verizon worked it all out for you. I have long thought about switching from verizon, but I text a lot with some friends and our adult kids. Glad you were able to pick up some flowers for the cemetary. This is a weekend to remember the special women in your life- I do think that we all mother each other (its part of being a woman). I am thankful for your friendship and am honored to call you and all of the other women here at the thread friends.
Ruth, does your sister do any hand crafts? I wonder how much crochetting you will be able to get done while she is visiting. When my sister visits, its just fine if one or both of us are keeping our hands busy...glad you got a lot of cooking done so that you can enjoy her company. Do you and Dh have to pick her up from an airport? Hope that whatever you do for mothers day, you can relax and feel blessed and honored by your family.
Ok, so yesterday....I got up at 4:25, walked, went to work, babysat for DGD who hardly slept at all (teething), made dinner...walked twice with DGD (in the stroller) to try to get her to sleep- which she would not- then Dh and I went for a walk around a lake after dinner with friends. Total step count yesterday was 26,635 steps....I was exhausted.
Will BBL - gotta get in the shower and start today. Ginny

OH my, Ginny!! That is a LOT of steps. No wonder you were exhausted. I think I told you that I did order a fitbit. It was on sale at the store then ebates had a 20% rebate on it so I got it at a really good price. Then at the Kroger store yesterday I saw the woman I always see with her fitbit on and new pretty bands each time. She must weight about 400lbs...she's huge but she sure seems like a happy person and loves her fitbit so I told her I finally gave in and got one. Question I have though is, is it works by you swinging your arms, will it count steps as I crochet
I do hope the baby's teeth come through soon so that she feels better.
Betty, I'm glad you found a pattern you like. Lion has one called the two color afgan which is intended for adults but it's so small it's more of a baby blanket size and it makes a very beautiful blanket. I've made several and eveyone loves them
Ginny, yes we do have to pick her up at the airport so I'm glad the wether is cooperating. She doesn't get in till about 2:30. I have to check that again to be sure and I sure hope her plane isn't delayed. One time when I was coming home from visiting ds I had to spend the night in Atlanta because the first plane was delayed two hours and then it was too late to catch the last flight here so they had me stay in ATlanta. Each time ds has come here his plane has been delayed. At least now it doesn't get dark until after 8 so there's a lot of leeway.Today is cleaning but I can't do much until dh gets up since the bedroom is downstairs...guess that doesn't matter a whole lot because no matter where the bedroom was I wouldn't want to make a lot of noise vacuuming but the kitchen is right over the bed so can't do much in there. So I'll just crochet till then. Yes I will be crocheting while talking.I hope she doesn't mind. My dh doesn't mind at all but he doesn't like me looking at my laptop while he's talking understandably.
