A most solemn Memorial Day to you all.
Hard to believe that the calendar flips over to June at the end of this week. As I sat down to start the thread I was just going to add to last weeks, until I realized it is also Monday. I do know we will be viewing the local Memorial Day parade- we usually attend one parade each year...I am hoping that we stay really local today. Dh is a veteran, as was my dad. I usually get choked up watching the parade when the veterans go past.
Phyl- sounds like you are having a great weekend with so many graduation parties!! Do you have good weather too??
CJ- I LOVE those jar toppers, they are so pretty. Hope that they work up easily for you...which color scheme did you purchase? The fabrics for the mason jar quilt are adorable, and will be perfect for your project. You find the most interesting projects to work on! Thanks for sharing. I started checking out the amish quilt auction- yes there are some amazing and beautiful quilts shown.
Sue- were you able to get more sleep? Its so calming to listen to the birds in the morning...
Ruth- so glad you were able to activate the new phone with such ease. Yes, the fitbit does sync pretty much all by itself once the App is activated. How are you finding it using Fitbit? I am guessing that the granny square baby afghan you are making is more “girl colored” than the blue one you were working on. So many pretty colors of yarn out there, what color scheme are you using? My DD made one for a friend (also the huge granny square) that faded in and out of a tan/brown/grey- it was striking...a simple piece but the use of color made it so interesting. Glad its not too hot in your area. You might be looking for spring- but its great that you have not gone into instant summer. Yes the dreaded yardwork awaits us....darn I have a hard enough time keeping the inside of they house and now you expect me to keep the outside pretty too?? Ha ha ha
Got a bit of work done on the third block last night....as soon as I say goodbye I hope to finish that block and get set up to start the last one for this month. Dd’s bridal shower is next weekend, and this week is a little bit busier than most, so its best if I complete all my blocks early.
Lovely to hear the morning birds out there......I can hear some geese overhead too along with the chatter of the birds.
Gotta go start a load of laundry and then finish that block. Ginny

Good morning to all. It's a dreary looking day so far. Yes my dh is already dreading the hot weather while I'm looking forward to it except for the work it entails that I mentioned yesterday and Ginny mentioned this morning. Yes the inside of the house already calls us so who needs more work.
Well I really haven't found out all that the fitbit can do and instructions say to swipe the clock face. Well I've tried that many times and nothing happens. When I tap it changes from one function to another but swiping does nothing. I still think that I bought just an expensive pedometer but I will use the app on my phone I'm sure. I just haven't got to that yet with company and all I have to do now.
There may be a parade here but if so I haven't heard about it. We have about three parades during the year but we don't attend.
The granny square I'm making is a rectangle made with Lion Brand Jamie yarn in shades of pink and white om each skein and when crocheted it really does look pretty even though it may be boring in the traditional pink. The pinks fo from very light pastel to a really pretty bright pink
When I saw the thread for this week I too was kind of surprised that it was Monday again already even though earlier I was thinking about it being Monday and yet I don't have to start taking care of some issues yet because it's a holiday. I'll be back to working on seeing if I can get something done about my truck I bought and also will make an appointment again for the recall work on my new car. I know there's something else I need to do but can't remember right now what that was but I'm sure I will remember.old tra
Ginny, yes it sounds as though it will be another busy week for you and especially so because of the bridal shower. I hope all goes well. Will it be the old traditional type shower with just her women friends or is it one of the newer type that is almost like a wedding reception in that it's a huge party with both men and women invited?

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get some work done on your quilt blocks. Sounds like things will get busy now for the wedding. The small quilt I bought was in aqua tones (they call it mint-ish). If you do look through the Mennonite Auction quilts, I really liked the one that looked like a large tedding bear - the quilt was done all in squares or half square triangles. So clever and cute. It's in the 80s and warm here today. I had the windows open earlier, but I've closed them downstairs and turned on the AC. I left them open upstairs for a bit because I was getting a nice cross breeze. I'm baking a small loaf of bread today, not sure how it's going to turn out since I changed up the recipe to suit myself. It's one of the no-knead ones. I watched a video this morning where someone made the no-knead bread in plastic bag - no touching the dough at all. It was interesting. Hope everyone has a wonderful day.

PROBABLY ALL OUTDOORS ACTIVITIES GOT CANCELED.
I BAKED SOME OLD FASHIONED OATMEAL COOKIES AND A RHUBARB CAKE FOR QUILT GUILD TOMORROW NIGHT.
WOULD LIKE TO GO TO MY PLAYPEN AND FIGURE OUT WHAT TO TAKE TO SEW DAY TOMORROW. THINK I HAVE HAD ENOUGH STANDING FOR TODAY.PHYL

There was a parade in town today, but we didn't go. We have been watching war movies on Sundance channel. Things like The Dirty Dozen which still makes me laugh. Kelleys Heroes which is a Clint Eastwood film. My craniosacral therapist is working today, so I saw her early this morning. On my way back home I saw several small old planes making their Memorial Day flight to a town in the next valley to the east. There weren't as many as usual, probably due to the low clouds. A helicopter was flying around this valley with a large American flag. The birds were out, including geese and ducks. When I got home I pulled dandelions out of the long raised bed along the driveway. The house that had 18 offers on it a few weeks ago must have closed in record time. The new owners are moving in today. One of the smallest houses is getting a big makeover. A two story addition that must quadruple the footprint is being added to the back of the house. Across the fence and one house to the east was adding what I thought was a shop/pole barn or something similar looks more like a house with a second floor. It's huge, probably 4,000 - 6,000 square feet. It's on 1.5 acres, so there's plenty of room, but if it's a second house, The aspen leaves are still very small, but they're quaking in the breeze.i picked some daffodils. There are three different types, but they're all a combination of pale yellow and white. I need to think about planting some new tulips this fall. I've gotten multiple years, but they are smaller and fewer in numbers. Tomorrow I may go pick up some annuals to go under the back deck in the hosts bed. Some spots of color!

It's been raining here all day and we had a couple a real downpours so if there was a parade scheduled I'm sure it was cancelled.
Phyl, that rhubarb cake sounds so good. I love rhubarb in any form.
Sue, too cold here for yardwork and of course today too wet. By Friday we're supposed to get to 70's which will last till at least the end of that 10 day forecast.I may be able to plant my tomatoes outside.
Ok I may go do some baking. I've been working on my baby blanket. I was sure surprised to find out how many earwarmers I made the last week my sister was here. I found more that I had done during that time. Grandaughters will have plenty next winter and small grandsons also

Ok babysitting right now....so I am limited with how to respond.
Phyl, sounds like you had a nice day. Love the way people entertain in garages now, a good choice if bad weather is present. I have total confidence that you will pick out something cool to work on!
Do tell , Ruth how many headbands did you make?
Sue, aspen trees are so very pretty when the wi d blows their leaves. Enjoy the daffodils which seem to bloom too quickly. My peonies are opening. Another season that passes too quickly.

CH how did the bread turn out? Do u have any of the strawberry rhubarb preserves to spread on it? Were you able to settle on a mason jar pattern?
Got quilt bloc#3 done and am cutting out the fabric for #4. The bridal shower is women only, more traditional in concept. Slept poorly last night.

Good afternoon everyone. It's a dismal looking day today but we do need the moisture. Only problem is it dries up fast and then we still have drought conditions.
Phyl, it's good seeing you so many times in the last few days. I'm sorry to hear your back hurts. I hurt mine while my sister was here but it's improving day by day. Have no pain pills but in the beginning I did take ibuprofen. I'm also sorry you don't like your current project very much. I hope when you finish it it looks much better than you expect.
CJ, I, too, was wondering about the bread. I may have to bake some of my gluten free biscuits. Your bread makes me want to have a bread like product.
Ginny, how is little grandson doing? Is he over his strep and whatever else was going on? Is the baby still having teething woes?
I'm still working on the rectangular baby blanket. I thought maybe I was going to run out of the yarn I'm using before it got to a good size but I just found four more skeins of this pink mixture and at least one of the white I want to use for the edging so I'm all set and hopefully this yarn will be used up. I really need to use more of my stash.I don't have the earwarmers here in this room but after I found another I think I ended up with 5 or 6 of the waffle stitch ones and one cable one so not a ton but more than I thought. So eventually I'll make some more of the cable ones and the girls will each have a cable one and a waffle one. I also found a couple more patterns for others that I want to make and will make one for each of the girls in those patterns too and the rest will go into the donate box.
I'm doing some cooking and baking today too....lasagna and carrot cake.I was going to make carrot cake while my sister was here but didn't get to it. There were several things I didn't get to while she was here but I'll keep my list for future company.
See you all later

Phyl, I am so very sorry to hear that your back is causing you to be so uncomfortable. I hope that the rest helped you. When you can try to get up a bit to loosen it up....too much rest is not good either. I hope that it improves quickly for you! Isn’t it frustrating when a project does not turn out as well as we antcipated? I am hoping that you can do something easy to make it more attractive to you- perhaps changing a border or some sashing.
Ruth that is awesome news that you have enough yarn to complete the rectangular blanket! That is a big relief, knowing that you do not have to go out for more yarn and getting the right dye lot. Did you get your cooking and baking done? All those unused recipes you can make when Ds visits at the end of the summer.
Going to a class tomorrow, and I am glad to be out of the house for the day. Dd has the wedding jitters, and Dh is a bit edgy- so a day away will be nice. Gotta run some errands on the way home, it will be a long day for sure.
Hi to all who I did not addres, CJ, Sue, Meg and Becky...hope I did not miss anyone. Got a few brief minutes of work on the pillowcase in while the grandkids napped. G

This is a beautiful sunny day. We're scheduled to have a nice 7-10 days with temperatures in the 70s. I see the earliest lilacs are starting to bloom! I have three varieties plus my favorite, the dwarf Korean lilacs whose bloom is just in time for emerging swallowtails. They'll start blooming in about three weeks.
Dandelions are alive and thriving in one of my rock bulb gardens. From a distance, they provide a lot of color. Several of the plants are over a foot across and have dozens of blooms. Today I used a knife to slice them off at the base. Follow up will be 2-4D.
