OH Ginny, that's terrible taht your dd was in a accident this morning but thankfully she wasn't hurt! It's great that you have a spare car she can use.
Took my car back to the dealer today and was able to talk to the man that is in charge of the team that will be working on my car. I explained everything to him and told him that I had explained it all to the desk people last time but they evidentally didn't pass on the full info to him and he affirmed my belief. SAid they just told him the battery kept dying. He said the info I gave him today will really help him. After I got home I found that I had forgotten to leave the keys but we were planning on shopping at a store right near there so off we went, gave them the key and did our shopping. Good thing I didn't bother to pack up crocheting to take because I had to wait only about 3 minutes for the shuttle driver. Not even long enough to have a sip of my coffee yet.

Opps, as I begin to look at my fabric for the second block I remembered.....yes, all the paper is removed from a paper pieced block when its sewn into place. For the first block, I can now remove the paper. For the second one, I might have to keep the paper in place until final assembly. One of the 3 of us who are taking the BOM club does not like paper piecing. yes, its a bit more work but I like it- and corners and seams are pretty much perfect. Plus it permits angles and pieces that would be much more difficult to handle if not for the paper to stabilize. Just my opinion, however

THe spare car is that relic from 1996 with 80,000 miles on it. Thankfully it still runs. So glad Ruth that you were able to speak with someone who would be able to help diagnose and repair the problem!!! Yay- maybe an end to your woes with this truck. Lets hope for the best. Guess you had a busy day, having to head out twice. But it all worked out. A blessing indeed. G

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm sorry to hear about you DD's accident, but so thankful that she wasn't hurt. And I'm sure it's a relief to have a backup car. I hope they'll be able to fix her car and insurance will pay for it all. I'm glad you like the paper piecing. It does make a beautiful block. I just wish I could get the hang of it. I've tried it multiple times, but always mess it up My local JoAnn's store used to have about 4 full rows of quilting fabrics. Yesterday when I went in there I walked past the second row and they had replaced the quilting fabrics with other materials - like dancing costume fabrics, etc. I was really surprised since it was only last year that they had expanded their quilting fabric lines. The still had a back wall of fabrics broken down by color, but all the other fabrics were squished into just two rows. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to talk to the guy who will actually look at your car, maybe they can find and fix the problem now. I haven't done anything today, guess that's the joy of being retired - maybe - just feels unproductive to me. The weather has been so nice, so I have been enjoying having my windows open. Looks like I'll be getting hot weather next week, so I need to take advantage of the nice weather. I still haven't heard back from the car dealership on my spare tire, so I wonder if they were just expecting me to show up. I really don't like when businesses don't communicate well. I guess I'll call tomorrow and see if I can get it on Friday. That way I can do some grocery shopping and errands while I'm down there. It's about 15 miles from my house but sometimes traffic can be bad so I like to go there during the middle of the day and avoid the rush hours. Hope everyone else is doing well. Take care!

I recently gave away all my vehicles that were 90's and the 2000 Ford. Oldest one I have now is a 2005.
Yes that does make sense and sounds good...the paper piecing. I can see where it would make the corners sharper and the angles nice and crisp.
CJ, You Joann's sounds like Walmart's yarn section...they keep getting smaller and smaller. When I bought my car and the spare and spare kit were included at my request they said they would call me. They never did so I finally called them. The person in the parts dep't said that the salesman had ordered it and it had been in for awhile but the salesman didn't tell parts who it was for...well they could have just asked him...he still works there. I wondered if any of you have heard of fabric bags for growing plants in. I never heard of them before but ddil posted a picture of her blueberries and said she grew them in fabric pots. I looked them up online and they do look very interesting and are very inexpensive so for next year I'm going to get some....as long as they don't charge too much for shipping. I'm sure there are a few companies that sell them but I've only looked at one so far.

Today I put on my chauffeur's cap and took hb for his wellness exam. He complained as usual about his sinuses and the mycobacterium infection he has. As usual the doctor said that he's just going to have to live with it because there is no cure. The only prescribed protocol almost killed him four years ago. He's also had sinus surgery, and all sorts of other remedies such as sprays, meds, rinses. He tries to argue with me about it, but just said "Oh ..." to the doctor.
I got very little sleep last night. Lots of variation.
Maggi went to the vet on Monday. She's taking a course of pills. She's much better but won't use the stairs yet. It's not clear that the problem is her back, but she has had recent blood work.
The week has gone past quickly, and tomorrow is quilting again!

Short hello as I hope to get started on the second block. I cut it last night...am ready to start sewing. DGD is napping. Got a limited amount of time.
Sue so sorry you slept so poorly. Yes, indeed, sometimes dealing with uncooperative people (whether spouses or doctors) can be very frustrating. And its hard to know how to respond or take action. Hope that both Dh and Maggi improve with their individual conditons.
CJ- wish I could send you my paper piecing directions....actually if you were interested I could. I love the detailed way she explains things and indeed while its a little bit frustrating it comes out well. Enjoy the cooler weather for now.....yup summer heat is coming next week. Yuck. How warm are you supposed to get?
Ruth I have only seen ads for the fabric bags for growing things like tomatoes. They look interesting- and I hope are productive. Gee, wouldn't it be nice if zucchini could be reliably grown in them? (Too heavy a fruit and the plants get too large....would not work).
Off to play with fabric G

Ginny, it sounds like your blocks are turning out great. That's such a good feeling. I'm glad you're getting time to sew while dgd is napping. Sue, between your hubby and the furbabies you have a lot on your hands and of course you have your own medical issues. Yesterday my dh informed me that he'd been having irregular heartbeats all day. I was ready to rush him to the hospital but he wanted to eat first so he did and after that his heart was beating regularly so I'm guessing his blood sugar was low enough to have affected his heart. Of course he could have been dead in the time it took him to let me know he was having a problem! Men!!! It's a beautiful day. Watered the outdoor and indoor plants and I've been working on getting some things together for our short trip and want to clean the house over the weekend. We'll leave Tues but dh seemed nervous about what we were taking with us to eat, etc so I packed up some things to settle his anxiety. He packed his own clothes but I have a couple things to wash and iron before we leave. I need to decide what to take to crochet while sitting around in the evenings. It may be hats as I mentioned the other day but we'll see. The CAL starts next Friday so new hat patterns will be posted then. In the meantime I have the list of several hundred patterns already that I can do.

Ginny, I keep forgetting to ask but one day you mentioned propagating new Christmas cactus plants using cuttings. So what do you do...just pull of a portion of one of the "stems" and put it in water till it roots?

Hello Crafters Sue - Hope you enjoy the quilting today and get some better sleep tonight. Ginny - Thanks for the offer, but I have bunches of paper piecing instructions, tools and kits. I was determined to master it a few years ago, but then lost interest I'm glad you are enjoying it Ruth - I'm sure your plants are looking nice and I'm glad you are having a good weather day. Hope you can get everything ready for your trip. I would love to go somewhere, but it's just not in the cards for me right now. Now that I have the new car, maybe I'll think about a day trip. The weather here today is very humid. I think one day this weekend it's supposed to be 90 and then it looks like 80s all next week. I called to check on the spare tire and kit and they said it is ready and I need to go to the service department to have it installed. I was thinking about just showing up there tomorrow morning and then I thought that maybe I should get an appointment or I could be sitting in there for hours. I called and now have an appointment on Monday. So it will be good to get that done. I had planned to do that and some errands tomorrow, so I'll have to see if I still go out tomorrow. I think it would be good for me even though I just want to stay home all the time. I need to get out of the house more often and be in the world I took a look at the black fabric against the fruits and vegetables fabrics and decided I do want to use that color. Now I need to plan a trip to a quilt shop to pick up some fabric for that and for the jar lids. Most of the quilts I've seen use silver/gray, but I really want to use gold because all the canning jars I've ever bought had gold lids. Hope everyone else is doing well and getting in some crafting. Take care everyone!

CJ, I was just saying about how we all needed to get out even though we feel like staying at home. I do like staying at home more than anything but we are going on that trip next week and at least it will be good for dh to get away for a couple days.I'm glad you like the black for the quilt. Now you can get that fabric and start. Yes I was just going to show up at my car dealer a few days back but it's a good thing I did call because the person that has to do that testing was not available until yesterday. Still I guess I could have just left it there. Since I can't drive it anyway it may as well have sat there rather than here. Yes I can have dh charge it and drive it to the dealer but I don't want to drive it anywhere else because of fear that it could suddenly die in traffic which could cause a wreck and serious injury to either me or the people in the other car . After I watered my plants it suddenly clouded up and we had a downpour and it's raining again now. The plants will be good and wet but I had mixed fertilizer in the water I used and now it's probably just all washed away.

Good evenng!
CJ- the reason I offerred to send to you the instructions for this one block is that they are great instructions and easy to follow....I know you are plenty competent and could do this with your eyes closed. but also some directions are poor....or the sheet they give you to work with is not well marked. So sorry about the hot weather.....none of us are hot weather fans it seems. Good news that you have an appointment for the car. One more headache to check off and get done. Hope that you are able to locate fabric that you like for the mason jar quilt. Its such a cute idea. I know its gonna turn out great.
Ruth- MEN!!!!!! I cannot believe that your DH was feeling that poorly and said NOTHING? For crying out loud you are a nurse....but I am so glad he is ok and that it was most likely low blood sugar. And only you, or one of us here would stress over what crochetting project to travel with....ok my sister in law would do that too....gee its important to have the right project to travel with right? Yes, as far as the Christmas cactus goes, take a healthy βleafβ - preferably one with those little air roots on the bottom and just put it in soil. No need to start it in water.....it can go right into a light soil mix and water once a week. They root pretty quickly.
Got some work done on the second block, which I hope to finish tomorrow. Good night all Ginny

I slept very well last night and went back to sleep this morning for an extra two hours!
Quilting was fun yesterday. Two of our half the year members are back until fall, but several of the regulars were missing. Just the right number of people for the space, as well as ease of conversation.
Finally, the spraying for vegetation control was done today. I've been squaking about it for several weeks. We had some early morning T storms, but they didn't last long. A little bit of heavy rain so I won't have to worry about the sprinklers until next week.

Good morning Sue. I'm glad to hear that you had a good sleep last night and were even able to go back to sleep and get a couple more hours. We had rain here yesterday too. It sounds as if your quilting get together was really nice. It's great when just the right number of people show up. At our CAps for Kids meetings that I used to attend we always had quite a few people and it ended up that most people formed their own little groups and always stayed with the same ones at each meeting which was only once a month.
It's a beautiful day today. I've spent some time weeding out my closet once again and have a pile for donating, most of which still has tags. I don't know why I kept them as long as I did except for the fact that dh would have had apoplexy if he had seen even more bags to go to GW or wherever.I still keep trying to get him to get rid of some of his but he's been losing a little weight so he's even more convinced now that he has to hold on to all his clothes. Beside clothing there's plenty of other things he needs to give up
When I was out last week I went to the Misson thrift store to buy some shorts. I only wear them at home but needed some because old ones were huge. Of course I found a few other things I needed to buy and again was amazed at the great brands of clothing they have there. They never have much in my size but I found two pairs of what were very expensive jeans when they were new.Shorts were a good brand also. They sell the clothing by the bag so if you buy 10 items it comes to only a little over a dollar apiece...love the price!
I have several things I want to get done today so better get busy. You know how I am about trips...want to have the house nice and clean before we leave.

Good evening, Ruth, I just read an article on what to buy and not to buy at thrift stores and they indicated that they are a great source for brand new name brand clothes! Guess you have found that to be the truth also. Congrats on some great finds, and for super reasonable prices too!! I am smiling over your use of the word apoplexy!! I use it from time to time, and Dh swears I am the only one who uses it, but darn its so descriptive. Sometimes you just gotta get rid of stuff- and if it no longer fits, well then it should go. My Dh is not too good at getting rid of stuff either. Most of the time its me who has to be the bad guy. Totally agree with you about getting the house clean before leaving. I do the same- Dh thinks I am nuts. But i love to come home to a clean house- a feeling like the maid was there while we were gone. That drives Dh crazy that I am so obsessive about that.
Sue, congrats on the sleep and the extra sleep! Sounds like a great guild meeting- just the right number of people there. Is this an actual guild that you are a member of? How are your feet healing?
Walked this am with my friend...put in a nice 2.5 miles. Lovely day here, its been a bit cloudy and windy, but not too warm. Right now I am on the deck, its cool and windy...I am enjoying watching the birds feed at the end of the day. Dh and I went out to pick up the bridal favors today, its a pleasant drive and I am glad we got that done. Also picked up the rental car for Dd so we are not short one car. I would build a fire in the firepit, but its too windy....so I will sit on the deck and watch the birds. A very peaceful evening.
Hope to get more work done on the quilt block later on, perhaps finish this second block. Ginny
