Ginny, yes I don't think many people use that term anymore but it was common way back. From what I hear from other women men seem to be worse packrats than we women are. Of course then there's my yarn stash but that's a necessity of course I'm glad you were able to get the favors picked up. Each thing that you get done must feel like a big relief...another thing crossed off the list. OUr weather took a bad turn again. For awhile it was very sunny and pouring rain then it became dark and overcast with more rain. People keep saying "we need the moisture". Well I guess that's true but it seems like we either get too much or not enough. I do hope you can get that second block done. And yes, I was smiling when you mentioned that your sil also plans her crocheting to take on trips. From what you have said about her, she's a really great crocheter so I can also see her doing that.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Thanks for explaining about your paper piecing instructions, I do appreciate the offer to send them to me so whenever you have time I'd appreciate you emailing them to me. They might just be the ones I need to feel comfortable with that process I'm glad you were able to get out and have a nice walk and I hope the quilt block gets done. What is the design of the paper piecing you are making? Sue - I'm glad you enjoyed your meeting, it's nice when we can get together with people that enjoy doing what we do. And yeah! for a good night's sleep. Ruth - That sounds like a good find with the clothes last week. I go through my clothes at least once a year and I'm always surprised to find more that I can get rid of. I only wear about a third of the clothes I have. We had a beautiful day here, sunny, in the 70s with a breeze and a beautiful deep blue sky with puffy white clouds. Just wonderful!! It's been so nice to be able to open the windows so often in June. Looks like next week is going to be hot, so it will be back to the AC and a dark house with all the blinds closed. I found some more rhubarb at the store today so I bought 3 large stalks and they had strawberries on buy 1 get one free, so got two of those. I made some more strawberry rhubarb sauce to eat and tried it over some frozen yogurt I bought at the grocery store - it was very good! I'll use the rest probably stirred into vanilla yogurt. I also bought a rotisserie chicken and I'll get a few meals out of that. Ruth - Do you still have rhubarb? Does it only produce one time and then it's done or does it keep growing a second time, or more? Take care everyone and I hope you have a great weekend!

CJ, it's good to see you. I'm glad to hear that you found rhubarb and strawberries. They are just so good both mixed together and separate. Having it over frozen yogurt sounds delicious. I still have some of my cooked rhubarb but no more strawberries. I should have checked when we were shopping the other day but I didn't see any in the ad and forgot to look when we got to that store. Rhubarb produces for quite awhile and mine have been producing ok but they aren't a good variety of rhubarb. The neighbor's rhubarb is much better so I have to see about getting some new plants. I may ask him for some of his rhubarb roots to plant in my garden.I'm not sure how to do that but I'll look it up online and find out.The rhubarb I have cooked now is from him. I have some of mine in the freezer.
Earlier I tried the pillow in the shape of an S but I realized it wasn't going to work. I saw a pattern on the Crochet Crowd site but it looks like too much work so I'm going to forget that. Instead I started working on the ice cream cone. ay It's so cute and is almost done. I'm going to make two more of those then the birthday cake slice.I don't think there's anything on the agenda for tomorrow so I'll finish up my cleaning. I got a lot done today but have to finish up some things like ironing. I don't usually iron but I want to touch up a couple things that didn't come out quite right in the dryer and then some vacuuming. Of course, as you all know, there's always things we can find to do as far as housework goes.
CJ, Yes I tend to wear the same clothes all the time. I wear them, wash then and wear them again so the majority of my clothes just hang in the closet or sit in the drawers for months or years so why have them taking up space and especially if they don't fit anyway.
have a good night everyone.

hi girls, ruth rhubarb season is like from sometime in april to about the middle of june.
I have watched don dig out rhubarb.he takes the shovel and goes down deep ,when he pulls it out there is a huge mound of dirt around the roots.then there has to be a bi hole dug to put that plant in.
one thing I found out in the past week is do not cut rhubarb when you want it. pull the stalks out and that is suppose to help the plant grow. theresa said she never cuts hers.
the quilt show was fun,but not as much fun as it could have been. theresa was to much concerned about running into her dd.after she did then her personality change. we had fun. think theresa spent about 50 dollars.
I spent about 150. that includes the bus and ticket to get in.being we were coming by bus the ticket was 9.00. otherwise at the door it is 14.00.
I bought 4 fat quarters,a glass love those files. some fabric bags with a clear window. also a snowman kit. I would not have bought the kit I would not have spent 150.
the pattern of the table runner is in a mag I have. buying the kit is probably cheaper then running around trying to find all the right colors and different shades of blue and white.one thing for sure it saves alot of time.
I ran into about 7 people from here I knew. Nita ,Barbra and carol came together. barbar didn't buy anything.carol bought a little. Nita almost didn't buy anything. then on the way out she ran into the batik vendor and spent her wad there.she love batiks.
will tell you about the bus ride later.phyl

Happy Saturday!
CJ- first of all I would be happy to send the directions and a sheet with the printed out spacing for the paper piecing block. You would be making a 12 1/2 by 12 1/2 quilt block with a square in a star center, and flying geese border. I can think of 2 tools that are suggested to be used for the block, but it would not be hard to make with out these special tools. I will send you an email....we can discuss more there. Actually I can scan the directions and block layout and email them. We have rhubarb, which this year we are letting rest....the deer ate it down to nothing last summer, a first. Rhubarb is usually harvested (you only take about a third of the plant stalks) in mid spring...and let the rest grow throughout the growing season. Your strawberry rhubarb sauce sounds so good....enjoy! I know you freeze it too, and can enjoy it later on, as a matter of fact all year long. Hope that it does not get too hot in your region. I agree, the weather has been delightful!
Ruth, well whenever we have transplanted rhubarb, its been literally to take a shovel full and put in the ground what you took! The stuff is hard to kill. My dh has also sucessfully grown it from seed, which it will go to toward the end of the summer. The seeds germinate easily. Housework is so patient, it always waits for you! Sounds like you are working yourself silly getting the house all straightened up The ice cream cone pillows are adorable!! How big are they and what flavors are you making? Donβt work too hard cleaning.....your back was a problem only a short while ago, and it would be a shame to aggravate it..
Finished the block last night. Overall, I am happy with it. I found the first paper piecing block easier (yes, that is the one I will share with CJ). Got my colors figured out for the next block- which will be the same as the one I just made. Then I can finish the month with the easier block.
Hope to stop in later Ginny

Welcome back Phyl! Gee,by all accounts you had a great time! Think it was a wise move buying the kit for the snowman, then you are assured getting all the fabrics you need for it. Seems odd getting snowman fabrics when we are heading into summer. I have always cut the rhubarb, but it sure sounds like Don knows what he is doing. Like you- well to transplant rhubarb its a simple as getting a good shovel full and putting it into a nice hole with good soil. Then water.....pretty hardy stuff G

Phyl, welcome back. It's good to see you here so I guess your computer is fixed now. Sounds like you had a good trip also and a productive one. CJ, it's always good when the humidity is low. That makes higher temps much more bareable. Yes retirement is great. Just not having to go to work is great but then there's all the free time and freedom from all the things involved in preparing to go to work...all the physical preparations as well as any studying needed and the psychological preparation too. Ginny, I pretty much forgot what all you said now but it sounds like the instructions for the paper piecing are really good ones. Funny thing is that a woman who posts on many crochet groups posted an article about the paper piecing you mentioned. She calls herself the underground crafter and has a blog where she posts about many different crafts. WEll weather here started out beautiful but then about p6 it clouded over and we again got rain. I did finish the ice cream cone which isn't a pillow, it's just a stuffed ice cream cone which is fairly big though...8 inches tall and the ice cream part is 1- inches around. So now I've started a smaller one and I'll make two of those before I make the slice of birthday cake that I'm planning on making. I still haven't definitely decided on what project to take with me but I am thinking it will be the Viking hats for the two youngest grandchildren....the little guys Sue I hope you're doing ok too and your toes are healing and your hubby behaving. I hope Meg and Betty are doing well also.

I had help planting the plants I bought a few weeks ago! Several years ago, someone created some areas for planting, using rock he got somewhere in the Narial Forest (involves getting a permit for quarrying.).. There are four separate areas. Two are quite small. He did a really good job. If he hadn't required so much supervision, he would still be working for me.
My new garden helper is hb's caregiver's girlfriend. She spent a summer working for a landscaper when she was in college. She's smart, efficient, and a super person. She has another job at the hospital and has a three year old daughter, so her time is limited. So far, she has cleaned up an area offf the front deck which is probably 12' x15'. The shrubs were all overgrown, so they've been trimmed, grass, weeds, and some undergrown are removed and one of the rock gardens (shade) is planted with hostas, ferns, coral bells, astilbe, and bleeding hearts. I won't be able to tell how successful it was this year, but I can wait!
The woofers are a little agitated. A T storm is passing by, and some of the lightning strikes must be very close. Very, very loud.

Sue, that young woman sounds like a great helper. She and her boyfriend seem to have a great work ethic. Wish I could find someone like that. Thunderstorms were here also and also very close and loud. The first one even made dh jump.
I haven't been very prolific when it comes to crochet items lately. I did work on the little cone but even it isn't completely finished yet.I'll work on some today.Maybe I'll hear something about my truck tomorrow. Haven't heard a thing yet but I did tell them I was leaving it until at least next Friday just so they could get a full picture of what all bad things it does.

Happy Fathers day!
We are taking Dh to the movies and dinner later on. Weather here is a bit shaky but it should be fine until we are heading home. Got my next block cut out. Will be putting that together Tuesday night.
Anyone heard from Betty? Hope she is ok.
Ruth, hope you hear about the truck soon, the viking hats sound adorable.
Sue, wow you got lucky with your new garden helper!! Hope that the dogs calmed quickly. THey can escalate....and make each other more edgy.
CJ- lets enjoy the lower humidity- I keep hearing that mid week it will be more humid. Figure Wednesday I will get to emailing those directions to you.
Yuck. Tomorrow is Monday. Slept poorly last night...hopefully being out a little bit late does not give me trouble getting to sleep tonight. Realized yesterday that I have to have the front of the house looking nice for wedding pics. Oh, I had it looking ok, but still need to get some weeding done and perhaps add a bit to the planters. No rest here for the weary.
Hi to anyone I missed
See ya tomorrow. Ginny

I hope everyone is having a good day.
Ginny, I hope you have a good time at the movies and dinner too...besides your dh of course. It's great that you got the block cut out and ready to put together on Tues. I agree on the yuck it's Monday tomorrow.
I made a mistake earlier when I said I didn't finish the small cone. I did finish it but forgot. Now I got another done and have started on the birthday cake slice. I changed the pattern some because the designer of that pattern had you cut and reattach yarn every row which is not at all necessary. Mine will not only be easier but, if I say so myself, is going to end up prettier too.. After this is done I think everything for this grandaughter will be completed ...well except for the things I need to buy to go with the handmade things. After the Viking hats I'll go back to making things for the new great grandbaby that's on the way. I'm going to make her a hat and a matching one for older sister and their mom (my grandaughter)

Hello Crafter - Hope you are enjoying your day. It's hot and sunny here today, probably humid too but I haven't put my head out the door Not much else going on with me. I did check out the blogs on Slow Sunday Stitching and enjoyed seeing what people were working on. I also wrote the checks for a bunch of bills I need to put in the mail this week. I know someday I'm going to have to get modern and pay online or some other way, but I'm not ready for it yet. It's been enough of an adjustment to lose my home landline phone - I still miss that. Take care everyone!

CJ, I do my bills online and love it. There is so much helpful info on the pages and they are secure. They're free and no postage to be paid. Also you don't even have to balance your checkbook because as the payments go thru they are deducted and you can see your balance at any time and you can see all your transactions at any time.YOu can see which have been paid, when you paid bills last and how much you paid and you can set recurring bills up to be auto paid. You can set for them to send you email reminders to pay bills and they have choices of how far ahead of the bill due date you want them to remind you. You can also have bills sent to your banking site. You can also set pay up so that you pay a certain amount for a certain amount of months, weeks or whatever. This works great for something you want to pay for a certain number of months before finance charges set in. Just divide what you owe into that number of months, set it to be paid each month and stop on whatever date you set. and you can also set up how you want your money handled as in moved from one account to another like auto transfers after your money is direct deposited. You can pay individuals or companies. It's just really a great thing once you get used to it. Your monthy statement is online so you can check it...which I never do.For someone that likes to have a hard copy statement this takes getting used to but you can always print one off and you can elect to continue to have the bank send you a paper copy each month. Yes it does take getting used to having all that info online. It's always a worry to some but even my paranoid dh has his account online.
